Mix9 is my first survival show ever. I used to hate survival show because i dont like the eliminated part. Its so sad. And imo mix9 is a great show! Of course other survival show too :)
As a person who is watching all these programs, this was really informative! I was so curious about Koreans opinion! I like watching this kind of programs because of the opportunity to know more talented people! It is fascinating to know about their stragles and what they had to face off to finally debut...Korean music industry is really "cruel"...Seriously I admire all those idols...They don't give up on their dreams even when they have to put themselves on something like this! I have only respect for them!

Actually, MIXNINE is pretty populair overseas. Because it is produced by YG Entertainment and YGE's biggest fanbase come from overseas :) So, it was a wise choice from those trainees to go on MIXNINE if they wanted to be recognized by international fans.
Even though I can't stan yg management I love MIXNINE, it shows everyone lot of kpop agencies I never knew existed and lot of talented trainees that comes from other agencies instead of YG only.. I learned to respect outside trainees other than Yg trainees 👌❤️ So many talented trainees that work so hard for their dreams so am really touched from their determinations and passions❤️

PD101 (esp. S2) is indeed the MOST popular survival show in KR and overseas. It ended more than 7months ago but still the popularity of the show never ends.

Yass I'm excited for season 3 of produce 101!!! I've been watching it since season 1 when I was a junior in high school. I'm in college now and I'm still going to watch it. Some of my friends called me childish watching this show because they say I'm "too old" for it. 😂
If I am not mistaken WIN and MnM are the first ever idol-survival programs and a huge hit bec it was something new and different from Kpop Star as all participants are all trainees and compete to debut exclusive to Yg only.It was so popular for the cruelty of battling with fellow trainee then JYP adopted the style for Sixteen now Twice and it has become platform for all other idol survival shows like Produce 101...And this makes me think if only Yg sustained iKON's comeback they could have been as huge and as mainstream as Twice they even months apart iKON September 15,2015 and Twice October 2015
Anneanne yes and also they are the best trainee i know especially producer song writer BOBBY and B.I the performance every episode is really amazing but d cruelty of that show makes me wish theres no other survival show like that. Mixnine is definitelt more popular than The Unit with the younger audiences, the problem is that it's cable so people usually aren't watching the first airing live, they catch things online later. The ratings aren't very reflective in that case.

Not too many of the younger generation watch KBS these days. I've never watched the Unit except for some clips, but I like the concept of giving these idols a second chance.
oh wow im surprised reading your comment, im in my 20s and i thought KBS has some great shows, like Hello Counselor or Happy Together. and if not many young people watch KBS then its so sad because idols in The Unit wont get any recognition that they think they will. so they are basically fighting for nothing.

Blue Beat Mochi I think the unit is more popular with ppl in 30s-40s. You need to take age into consideration. It seems to me that mix 9 is popular among 10s-20s. The interviewees look like they are in 10s-20s. One interview isn't a reflection of how well a show is doing. Of course pd101 beats both mix9 and the unit for popularity, but i watch the unit for talented and charismatic contestants, not for visuals.
Mixnine is YG. You know that yg is really popular right? In the show there's taeyang, seungri, cl, mino, seungyoon and jennie who appeared there. So i think 90% YG stan watched it.

This was super interesting for me, especially because as a person who does not generally watch these survival programs, I've always wondered what motivates people to watch them and keep going back for more when it all seems pretty repetitive to me. Good job, guys!
Considering a lot of things. The unit is more popular but not much compared to mix9. If you haven't watched the unit, you should. It's one of the better survival shows and especially in the later episodes gets really good. The editing gets better for each episode and the screen time is pretty fair as the episodes go on. They also have really fun segments too (the boxing ring is legendary) and the staff are providing constant bts footage and extra material to watch (recent reaction vids were hilarious) which are super funny. Seriously I recommend the show! Eng sub is on KBS world! If you aren't interested in watching full episodes watch some of the clips! Lastly all the original songs the unit released are super high quality. KBS really spend a lot of money on them and they are really good! Please check them out !

The unit's ending product - unb is not popular compared to IOI and wannaone, it says something, you need good songs even if idols are good, they need to hire some good composers
"They are pretty" thats how Izone became like that. Idols arent blind, they probably see that too, "they appreciate eye candy rather than talent". Some of them must think "is that really my dream?" I guess thats also why musicians think of idols as a joke: even if its not what they want, they are there just to be admired, whatever they sing or not, they dance or not, idols are supposed to just be "pleasing to the eyes". Is kind sad see talented people fighting in these shows, they deserve better than to be avaluated for people who just want something pretty.
I agree with the guy who said survival shows have a few years left. Even before produce 101 & the rest started there were still survival shows, just conducted in smaller number (mostly by one company and its trainees). I think big ones that require dozens of trainees/idols & a lot of money will go down once the shock factor is gone, but companies have now seen how survival shows give idols more popularity and there will probably be a lot more smaller ones in the future (like sixteen, mix n match, no mercy, etc.)
bengurl It's because mixnine is airing on cable tv, that's why people outside of korea think it's doing bad when it isn't at all XD Even for the cable dramas it's hard for them to hit 1percent
I disagree in term of rating Mixnine is doing poorly, JTBC is one of the most popular cable channel so most of their show have 2 or 3 % (Knowing brothers for example), yes for Mixnine it's harder because it's new but still the ratings are decreasing episode by episode, but it can be popular without the ratings or if those people just watch a bit of it and not the totality of the episode. My point is The unit is not popular either but yes being on KBS give them an advantage but at the end both the Unit and Mixnine were a failure since they were supposed to challenge Produce 101 and obviously they didn't. And don't put Mixnine poor rating on JTBC it's just that YG image is really bad right now and people have a hard time accepting the fact that the judges were not nice ( or that YG was too harsh sometimes when he doesn't have any right ) and the concept of mixnine was not clear so they lost a bit of the interest because of that !
well, mixnine do much better online as far as I know there have been articles on naver with 2K upvotes, this is mostly for the girl side though but still. Mixnine fans support the contestants with online votes and by streaming their videos. They are definitely more active on korean forums etc. You have to take in consideration also the time is aired as well. Overall, both are not doing as well as produce 101 season 1 & 2 but mixnine has more dedicated fans and more casual fans than the unit.
I think they think The Unit are more popular because some contestants are already familiar with them unlike in Mix9. But i think i like mix9 more because i prefer fresh faces. Its interesting to see new trainees and new debut group.
I think the reason mixnine has a low tv ratings because most of its audience are teen or young adults who prefer watching the episodes online like on their phone rather than watchingot on tv.
the unit fans just get crazy cause nobody mentions them here, feel so funny when they try to drag Mixnine down by saying the show is suck and low rating in Korea. Relax !!!!
I tried watching The Unit because of all the familiar faces, and but I couldn't even get past the episode after everyone performed the main song (I apologize, I can't remember the name of it). It felt like a drag to watch the show.
honestly, that was the only boring part lol. I didn't like the song choice and it felt a little too anticlimactic but it got wayyyy better afterward. I recommend just skipping over to the first mission :) 2pm Heartbeat cover is SUPER good
I like mixnine because the songs they have to show are different from the original song, and they make their own dance , they make their own lyrics, so the song feels like there song mixnine rating is low because most people watch online,just like me

uppie awww i love uppie btw mix9 popular among teenagers since the most of the contestants are trainees like pd101 when the unit popular among ahjumma lol but yeah it's popular among late 20s and 30 and danny and david just interviewing teenager and early twenties so ya that's make sense too but it's okay i love the unit i even watch 2 to 3 times per episode cs it's just so fun to watch they all are hilarious

While Mix9 is on JTBC which is a cable channel but people don t need to pay and watch live because nowadays everyone has internet and so can look on streaming like us int fan ;)
People always complain that idols are mass produced by big companies, but in truth they just wanted to see all that process in the front line, and feel that they were part of the process, that ironic. well, because deny it, we all love the DRAMA !!! It feels strange that this is the next generation of idols, I miss the 2 gen
I noticed it too that many joins this kind of survival shows. I've been wondering if most of the people in S.Korea(especially the younger gen) wants to be an idol, isn't there any other things that they can do? -_- Others don't even have the natural talent/skill(train to gain it is their way and it takes a lot of time, for others almost a decade). Others have the looks and the others don't(there's a make up after all). It's like if the person wants to be an idol they just go for it. It seems they are fixated to the idea of being popular and yet the idols hate it when people/fans keep on barging in their life(of course they will be curious about everything after all you are popular and that's the down side of it). (I enjoy watching this kind of shows it's just worrying because it seems the young ones just focuses in this industry)

That XX i dont think so. i watch mixnine and sure their performances are really good, but Produce are on another level. even the unknown trainees of produce made good performances. The first mission of mixnine, the performances really didnt blew my mind. some were good, but the others are meh.

the big downside to all these shows is that there are some really good groups out there who were not formed from a show or have any members who participated. they get left in the dust and it means kpop could potentially become more mainstream and lose any variety it had thanks to all these smaller groups. over 20 groups debuted last year and we hardly hear about the vast majority of them. there are some good ones too.

I completely agree. Ikon and Winner went through easily the hardest survival program, and while I like the rest, they can’t really compare.
I prefer Mixnine it’s quite different from the other shows and they produce new songs for the constants

I know but check out mixnine episode 12 and 13 they produced 6 songs and some are producers not from YG and their songs is on anther level
What i like in pd 101 is so that they give a lot of inspiring messages coming from participants which are relatable to the viewers as well

This was super interesting for me, especially because as a person who does not generally watch these survival programs, I've always wondered what motivates people to watch them and keep going back for more when it all seems pretty repetitive to me. Good job, guys!
Considering a lot of things. The unit is more popular but not much compared to mix9. If you haven't watched the unit, you should. It's one of the better survival shows and especially in the later episodes gets really good.
The editing gets better for each episode and the screen time is pretty fair as the episodes go on. They also have really fun segments too (the boxing ring is legendary) and the staff are providing constant bts footage and extra material to watch (recent reaction vids were hilarious) which are super funny.
Seriously I recommend the show! Eng sub is on KBS world! If you aren't interested in watching full episodes watch some of the clips!
Lastly all the original songs the unit released are super high quality. KBS really spend a lot of money on them and they are really good! Please check them out !

The unit's ending product - unb is not popular compared to IOI and wannaone, it says something, you need good songs even if idols are good, they need to hire some good composers

Idols arent blind, they probably see that too, "they appreciate eye candy rather than talent". Some of them must think "is that really my dream?"
I guess thats also why musicians think of idols as a joke: even if its not what they want, they are there just to be
admired, whatever they sing or not, they dance or not, idols are supposed to just be "pleasing to the eyes".
Is kind sad see talented people fighting in these shows, they deserve better than to be avaluated for people who just want something pretty.
I agree with the guy who said survival shows have a few years left. Even before produce 101 & the rest started there were still survival shows, just conducted in smaller number (mostly by one company and its trainees). I think big ones that require dozens of trainees/idols & a lot of money will go down once the shock factor is gone, but companies have now seen how survival shows give idols more popularity and there will probably be a lot more smaller ones in the future (like sixteen, mix n match, no mercy, etc.)

It's because mixnine is airing on cable tv, that's why people outside of korea think it's doing bad when it isn't at all XD Even for the cable dramas it's hard for them to hit 1percent
I disagree in term of rating Mixnine is doing poorly, JTBC is one of the most popular cable channel so most of their show have 2 or 3 % (Knowing brothers for example), yes for Mixnine it's harder because it's new but still the ratings are decreasing episode by episode, but it can be popular without the ratings or if those people just watch a bit of it and not the totality of the episode. My point is The unit is not popular either but yes being on KBS give them an advantage but at the end both the Unit and Mixnine were a failure since they were supposed to challenge Produce 101 and obviously they didn't. And don't put Mixnine poor rating on JTBC it's just that YG image is really bad right now and people have a hard time accepting the fact that the judges were not nice ( or that YG was too harsh sometimes when he doesn't have any right ) and the concept of mixnine was not clear so they lost a bit of the interest because of that !
well, mixnine do much better online as far as I know there have been articles on naver with 2K upvotes, this is mostly for the girl side though but still. Mixnine fans support the contestants with online votes and by streaming their videos. They are definitely more active on korean forums etc. You have to take in consideration also the time is aired as well. Overall, both are not doing as well as produce 101 season 1 & 2 but mixnine has more dedicated fans and more casual fans than the unit.
I think they think The Unit are more popular because some contestants are already familiar with them unlike in Mix9. But i think i like mix9 more because i prefer fresh faces. Its interesting to see new trainees and new debut group.
I think the reason mixnine has a low tv ratings because most of its audience are teen or young adults who prefer watching the episodes online like on their phone rather than watchingot on tv.

I tried watching The Unit because of all the familiar faces, and but I couldn't even get past the episode after everyone performed the main song (I apologize, I can't remember the name of it). It felt like a drag to watch the show.
honestly, that was the only boring part lol. I didn't like the song choice and it felt a little too anticlimactic but it got wayyyy better afterward. I recommend just skipping over to the first mission :) 2pm Heartbeat cover is SUPER good

Guys, calm down, no one mentioned the Unit and you all here are finding this funny? I admit that all of these programs are very good, but that does not mean that the idols at The Unit are not good, you kept saying they are flops but guess what they are talented.. people are just blind, they do not know the meaning of real talent, I mean if they only get a little bit of promotion they will be a hit really so do not judge the views or popularity only Go and watch it. You will know that I am right. It is a wonderful program and all the programs are great because we can see how much effort they are making for their dreams, whether they are idols or trainees, all deserve appreciation.

I noticed it too that many joins this kind of survival shows.
I've been wondering if most of the people in S.Korea(especially the younger gen) wants to be an idol, isn't there any other things that they can do? -_-
Others don't even have the natural talent/skill(train to gain it is their way and it takes a lot of time, for others almost a decade). Others have the looks and the others don't(there's a make up after all).
It's like if the person wants to be an idol they just go for it.
It seems they are fixated to the idea of being popular and yet the idols hate it when people/fans keep on barging in their life(of course they will be curious about everything after all you are popular and that's the down side of it).
(I enjoy watching this kind of shows it's just worrying because it seems the young ones just focuses in this industry)

I used to hate survival shows, I honestly still am not 100% delighted since we can see them more and more as products instead of people and that disturbs me, but the shows are addicting for some reason beyond my understanding, I enjoy watching them, so I do it as a guilty pleasure

That XX i dont think so. i watch mixnine and sure their performances are really good, but Produce are on another level. even the unknown trainees of produce made good performances. The first mission of mixnine, the performances really didnt blew my mind. some were good, but the others are meh.

You have to watch the full stage version instead of the one they showed in the episodes. Because mixnine editing is terrible.
the big downside to all these shows is that there are some really good groups out there who were not formed from a show or have any members who participated. they get left in the dust and it means kpop could potentially become more mainstream and lose any variety it had thanks to all these smaller groups. over 20 groups debuted last year and we hardly hear about the vast majority of them. there are some good ones too.
tbh i can never finish a survival show because i can't handle my faves getting voted out...
