Mate, you have completely transcended tool making with this art piece. I am very grateful that you've decided to share your talents on youtube for the masses to enjoy. A true master at work here.
Lovely work, as a complete novice in the world of engraving I can say that the first thing I learnt is that it's a damn sight harder than it looks! I'm also impressed at the quantity and depth of research you must do for some of these projects. Thanks for sharing your work!
7 Months in, glad to see you've had the time to get some project work in again! Hope the paper's going/gone well, excellent use of all that hard work on the AK Mechanism. Seems that engraving is becoming the big thing in the UA-cam maker scene haha, I've recently taken it up thanks to all you folks, can't wait to reach a level proficient enough to include in a project of my own :D
Watching your videos reminds me of the medieval alchemists , they searched to turn base metal into gold You turn base metals into pieces of real beauty . thank you for sharing your skill and ingenuity with us mere mortals !
Chris, you're an artist, a craftsman, and a teacher. Your audience doesn't just want to see you skillfully making a beautiful object, we want to know how it was done from planning to execution with explanations of why you did what you did. Your best videos incorporate all those elements.
@clickspring it's stunning to me how such thing can be done. I make little things here and there, and everything is rough and scratched and dented (I don't make anything remotely of the type of things you do, more like repairs and mechanical stuff). you have such talent and skill, it's incredible. I'd be curious to see if you could make basic, 2-5 minutes videos where you explain the techniques you use, the intricacy, the way the tools work, and how, beside practice, you manage to make these beautiful things. explaining how you manage to file things so flat that the lines between the various items disappear, like in your ankitera mechanism videos, is also something I', very curious about. thanks for posting this.
Let me guess that was your first attempt at engraving and all things considered you think it went alright? Seriously though you have some serious skill pushing metal around, it’s brilliant to watch. Cheers
I imagine he was at a garage sale, found an old engraver, and thought, "Well, I wonder how this works? Guess we'll find out this afternoon.". And the rest is history... :)
I enjoy watching engraving and embossing, two different operations, but similar in results. But I remember seeing an engine that did engraving on watch parts, it was quite the antique at the time, and I haven't seen any other examples of it. I always wondered on such tiny parts, how they could engrave the designs into them. was it by hand like Chris does, or did they use the engraving engine to do it?
Clickspring - can you please list the tools you use for each project somewhere? I would like to slowly get into this kind of thing, and I have no idea where to begin. what's the power tool you use to carve those beautiful lines? what mill? what size of a mill would one need to build similar stuff? what lathe? what size of lathe? what features would a lathe need to carve threads like that, etc. thank you.
He's using GRS gear (look for GraverMax or Gravermach, and you'll need a handpiece and gravers). These things aren't quite Dremel-priced, even on the used market. Think "serviceable used car".
A little to no sharpening needed at all, tool steel is much much harder than brass. I'm guessing the tool used is an ultrasonic chisel, similar to what jewellers use.
I think he just printed that pattetn on laser printer and transferred the pattern to the surface of the workpiece with hot iron or something like that. This is the common way of making the diy PCBs.
Why is this scrollwork pattern so popular of all possible graving patters. I mean, there are like billion of possible patters but it is everytime a scroll pattern. Why is that?
A power graver of some kind its like a mini jackhammer faster and more precise than hammer and bit. They often have a pedal or other pressure switch to vary impact force.
I’ve been engraving for a couple years, took classes when I went to gunsmithing school. Your work doesn’t look English to me at all. English is many tiny, simple scrolls with fringe. This looks German. Am I missing something? Regardless, beautiful work.
Yo Clickspring my venerable dude, don't take it too hard if this channel doesn't get so many views - I _drink_ your content, but if I've already seen it on main, I'm not likely to watch it again here. If you'd like to for sure grab my views here, too - prereleasing little clips like this as teasers a day or so before a full video goes up on main will be literal crack to me. Of course - for sure do exactly what you want. Just saying so you'll know a possible reason if viewership ends up being low on this channel. Love you. (Lots).
I would have lost my mind if this were blued, then engraved for the sheer color contrast.
Excellent work as always, Chris! Who the hell thumbs down an artisanal piece like this?

Just woow, such craftsmanship! Splendid job as always.
looking forward to seeing more detail on the process to do this wonderful work. Nice to see you are getting some new work done.

Beautiful work! You could add closed captions with explanations Primitive Technology style
Hats off, master.. 🙏
liking seeing your work as always, but I really do miss that cheery "Good-day!" at the start...
I'm getting the initial impression someone is stealing his clips and re uploading
@@blakebaumeister3859 thought it was a second channel he open with short clips on it..

Fantastic.
One word ~ 'Awesome!"
Beautiful

By itself that is a work of art
Wow, incredible!

Hello mate, there is a bit more info on the lathes here: ua-cam.com/video/SOT9grqMDvY/v-deo.html - Cheers :)
Engraving is so satisfying.
What is the next big project? What about H2? Lots of brass!
Amazing work! Would love to see the tool you used for this. I could not manage this tool as such but it would be nice to know in any case
Asdayasman made a comment in this vid 4hrs ago which I belie E to be a brilliant idea. Please take note, Chris.
Can someone please tell me the name brand of his power carver ?, Thank you !
He's using GRS gear (look for GraverMax or Gravermach, and you'll need a handpiece and gravers). These things aren't quite Dremel-priced, even on the used market. Think "serviceable used car".
I'm amazed you can cut a consistent depth ... I can't do any of that! If I were starting my life over, how would I learn that?
What song is this??? Love the music choice.
Awesome!
a Labor of Love !
One word 'wow'
So accurate and sooo fast! :o
Wow, that's a... lot... of work right there. Beautiful Chris.
Thank you mate :)
Resisting the urge to call Clickspring "Clock maker Senpai."
Notice me senpai... Notice me.
Only a very stable yet intelligent mind can do this
chris you are a beast - engrave guns and you are rich af.
...omg... that's just amazing! :-o
A Gift
This is amazing! How often do you need to stop and sharpen, hone, strop, or otherwise rework the tools? Also what kind of electric tool are you using?
A little to no sharpening needed at all, tool steel is much much harder than brass.
I'm guessing the tool used is an ultrasonic chisel, similar to what jewellers use.
The same as chainsaws, I believe - as needed. ^_^
I need to learn how to do this.
Бомба...., ракета... .Класс👍👍👍👏
Looks excellent.
How do you lay out the pattern?
I think he just printed that pattetn on laser printer and transferred the pattern to the surface of the workpiece with hot iron or something like that. This is the common way of making the diy PCBs.
äHM Chris, God didn't intend humans to be perfect, you breaking his rules.
NICE!!!
I like the music. What is it called?
Hi,
Great job!!!
Can you link your engraver tool?
Thanks!!!
Gravermach AT: amzn.to/2mubLE5 - Cheers :)
This just defies belief.
Amazing work! Where did you get the engraver from? I've looked through the comments but can't find anything about it......
GRS Tools - Cheers :)
Why is this scrollwork pattern so popular of all possible graving patters. I mean, there are like billion of possible patters but it is everytime a scroll pattern. Why is that?
Just curious as it's not clear from the video, but is that an electric engraving tool of some kind?
Pneumatic, GRS - Cheers :)
You have the patience of a saint my friend. How long did it take to do the engraving?
I think Chris said the entire project took about 90 hours but I have no idea how long the engraving took. It's stunning though!
What’s that oscillating sound? Is the tool oscillating?
A power graver of some kind its like a mini jackhammer faster and more precise than hammer and bit. They often have a pedal or other pressure switch to vary impact force.
Wow.
If you don't mind my asking - what are those fluids into which the piece is shown and being dipped into at the end ?
Solutions for the gold plating process - Cheers :)
Hi Chris, what are the baths for?
100 hrs for this piece, where do you find the time? I always struggle to go even into the shed because of time issues😂
Ok, got to ask. How long did it take to do this wonderful engraving?
Roughly 100 hours - Cheers :)
wish I had 1/10 of the skill
Learn about how to do it, practice, hone that skill and you too could be at this level 👍
I'm here subscribed, bell clicked n all. Can I share this? That's nice work, as well
Thank you Emma, yes certainly, please do share :)
Haha too late. Looks like it got some subs, I hope. Anything to get another video!!
Do you happen to know how many hours this took you?
About 100 hours Thomas - Cheers :)
Follower No.881 ❤️❤️❤️

Wow. 😳What else can you really say?
I'm the 1000's guy to like this video :)
