  • Glassdoor rated Gartner as the 4th toughest company to interview for in its Top 25 Toughest companies to interview report. When I went through the interview process, I found it fascinating and I wanted to share my insights and give you tips, tricks and explain the process for those that may be going through it.

    Groups:
    1. ITL: IT leaders
    2. TSP: Tech & Service Providers
    3. GTP: Gartner Technical Professions
    Pillars:
    1. Researching: WRITING
    2. Inquiry: Communicate with costumer clearly
    3. Presentation: Get on stage & communicate with audience
    4. Sales Support
    Process
    1. Recruiter reached out
    2. Hiring Manager meeting: leave good impression. won’t probe into tech. want to know qualifications, what you’ve done, wants to figure out potential leaders in future, can you become a manager, are you going to become technical or managerial talent, will you fit w team, want opinionated not stubborn
    3. Key Initiative Leader: you will be in constant communication w. highly technical questions in depth.
    4. SME: typically colleague questions about daily tasks.
    5. Group Interview: Team manager will give you choice of three topics. Write a ten page document. Ask questions. Send in before group interviews. Possible to be rejected and edited once. Three objectives- (1) Know your topic. (2) Spell/grammar check (3) Does the document flow? Needs continuity.
    **When writing it is good to have and defend an opinion but don’t try to outsmart the experts and show willingness to change opinion if presented w facts**
    You will then need to present in slide deck the content of paper in 10 mins. 4-5 experts. Highlight 2-3 findings. Give actionable items/recommendations. Answer question that was assigned. They will then ask questions. Some you won’t be able to answer but admit when you can’t answer something. Don’t fluff. Intended to be stressful to see how you do.

      1. How do you do research? primarily talking to colleagues/customers about the topic you want to know about and you’ll see a pattern. then vendors briefing, we speak w vendors on a daily basis and we need to know their roadmap/vision. survey group population. but I’d love to learn from you the methodology you prefer. I don’t know what I don’t know.
      2. If you get this job, what’s the first topic you’ll write about?I want to write about ____ I’ve heard customers/colleagues talk about this issue and I have yet to hear of a solution.

    Eli, this was a very thorough and informative video. I interviewed for the analyst role twice, and although I was successful in both of my interviews, I could have definitely used this videos guidance beforehand. If I could offer you some feedback it would be that this video was a lot to digest in one sitting, I would suggest instead a couple of 5 minute companion videos where you break down the major takeaways of the parts of this video into different sections. The most useful and interesting insights for me (as a former Gartner Analyst) were at the end, and I worry viewers won’t stick around for the end. Keep up the good work!

    "I don't know what I don't know and I'm here to learn, and I'm willing to learn." - Perfect answer. I wonder what the world would look like if everyone thought this way.

    Thanks for the videos! In terms of pay, what is the difference between an AE vs. Sr. EA position with Gartner? Any advice on negotiating a better pay or sales position title? I know you are covering Gartner from an analyst perspective. Any other resources you would recommend for interviewing or negotiating a better-paying sales position? Thanks for your help.

    Shall I join Gartner i cleared all interview but I don't want to be a salesmen I was interviewed for research analyst

    • @ekhnaser
      @ekhnaser  2 роки тому +4

      research analyst is NOT a salesman... it is a great job if you like to research, talk to customers, present and yes, you will support sales but that is a very small part of your job. PRO TIP: if you hate writing or not good at it, you will HATE the analyst gig. No one ever loves writing but you have to be able to do it and go it well otherwise you will hate it

    Hi Elias, please answer my question: how would ones career look like if one starts career as principal at Gartner at 30 yrs of age

    • @ekhnaser
      @ekhnaser  2 роки тому

      well my friend, it depends :) depends on you primarily and a bit of luck secondarily. As with everything in life, your job is to try hard, do great research and make a difference for customers! Gartner will reward you! it also depends on luck a bit... Sometimes, you will get an opportunity to work on a large project that raises your profile, sometimes you will get an opportunity to speak at a conference that will raise your profile... all these will help push you forward. At 30, if you stay at Gartner and doing all the right things... I think your odds are very good
