Celtic noodles while noodling! 🎸🎸 I am in total agreement with you. I am really good at noodling, in fact it is my favorite pass time. The purpose is to play hours and hours without learning a single thing and not progress at all. I have done this for years and I haven’t made a hint of improvement. I believe that over the years I became a master noodler. I am extremely modest in claiming that I am really good at it. 🎸🎸

Even the old bards used the pentatonic scale. I love playing the old world music when my Pantera and Lamb of God tires out and I'm just sitting up randomly at 3 in the morning I grab my old nylon or steel and play stuff like this just letting my fingers do the thinking noodling is a great way to find what your looking for even if you didn't know you were

Asaf has such a great channel. Proof-positivie that people shouldn't get hung up on politics and origins when it comes to music. What a teacher, and a laid-back dude to boot. My blood is Celtic, as is my (real) name, and Asaf delivers it perfectly, even though his blood isn't. Music really does unite us ALL. It's about the only thing in the world that does. Excellent job as always, Asaf. What a great guitar player you are.

Interesting.....just goes to show the connections between Celtic music and the music of North Africa and even India etc. However to really expand this sort of playing I’ve found DADGAD is probably the closest tuning for Celtic tunes. But that would take many tutorials! Many thanks for your lessons....I always enjoy them.

Why any tutorials? Just change the tuning to DADGAD use the 2 finger Flam technique and go exploring.

In the of E MAJOR/C#minor in standard tuning on the guitar Sounds Beautiful..
becuase you can drone off of the 4 outside strings.
      A is 4 th of E.....B is the 5th of E....PURE TONEs..
If you know music theory a little bit..it'll help.
Keys are just PITCH..if you're familar with the FRETBOARD.
      and know The C MAJOR/Amin
Just pretend the NUT/CAPO is @ the 4th FRET....
You can also barr completely across the 2nd and 4th FRET
      F# dorian ( F# min7 add4 or F# minor pantatonic)
      G# phry ( G# min7 add4 or G# min Pentatonic)
or to get familar...you can play DIADS on the middle 2 strings
against the OPEN 4 outside strings ( DRONE).
      in 4th...
      example D#,4 ( locrian)..E, 4 ion...F#,4 G#,4...A, #4 ( Lydian)
Lydian is the only #4...out of all the modes. in the MAJOR scale.
or you can make INCOMPLETE BARR CHORDs
As if ROOT is on Low E string
      example...the F# min , G# min A Maj , B Maj.
      With the three outside strings ringing.....E x..x. x..B E
As if ROOT is on the A string
or make in complete barr of the C# min..E A..x..x..x.E
      or the D maj7 or E maj7 , or A maj7 ( inverted C# min)
The D Maj7 shape would simply be ( inverted F# min)
YOu can play the D maj7, dominant , dim or Augmented
      as variation of the N6
Try play the C# sus 2...Barr chord shape against the open A and E
      The D NOTE is (N6) C# Harmonic min b2...Melodic min b2...
Example...play the C# sus2...less the ROOT with the open High E.
Then play the D note on the A string..against it..
Using the C# melodic min as a Guide....
      Play the F# MAJ diad...(on 4th fret...D string..)
Play the D note below it...D Aug...against the open B and E string...
      Then play the C note..( C, b5, .b7)...you can also play C ,3, b7
      It's be part of C Loc b4 ...of C melodic min ...
if you stack the D# note ( A string 6th fret) below F# Maj daid..
It'll just be notes from D# dorian b2 of C# melodic min
Or you can play the D# as a minor chord....
B Maj7 is the INVERTED of D# minor..
      in other words....play F# , 3, 6. b7 ( notes from the F# lydian dominant)
The b7 is the OPEN High E note....
to E MAJOR or C# minor...chords...you'll see it'll still harmonize
      or sound smooth....pretty.
      or play D #4, b6..against the open B , E string..
Or you can simply....Play the C as the b6 of E Harmonic MAJOR...
      You'll get use to it.....
They're all chords....easy on the Fingers...A beginner can make.
Knowing music theory helps make guitar playing EASIER.lol
      apply the same concept...in D min/F MAJOR.
You can play 5 strings open (expect the B string)
      Move every UP ONE FRET......
You'll have to play Notes on the B string...The C note is the b7 of D min..
      or 5th of F MAJOR

Leonard Cohen’s use of middle eastern instruments and pentatonic scales inspired me to learn about my own ancestral music (Irish/Celtic) and I’m noticing the similarities between Celtic and Eastern music too. Really interesting, all those ancient styles of music sound so hypnotic and mysterious.

Is it slapping the beat when you need to slap and to pick a note at the same time?! Over loads of time I’ve been able to master pretty much any technique I’ve set my mind to, but that is causing me sooooooooo much trouble. I’ve got a funny feeling there’s a video about that on this channel somewhere, but if there is then I’ll have seen it and it clearly wasn’t effective. I’d love to see him do one now at the height of his powers!!!
