Great interview. Love Jon Pertwee. He was my first Doctor. I've never missed Doctor Who since. It's a programme I have grown up with and still watch and will watch until I die. I'm 61 this year. Doctor Who is 60 in November. I just love it.
John Pertwee aged insanely well all the way up to his death he kept on his feet and was quite fit for his age just goes to show a heart attack or something like that can take anyone no matter how healthy they are
@@susanford2388 Douglas Camfield and Maurice Colbourne also spring to mind in that industry. Compared to the first two Doctors. Hartnell and Troughton, Pertwee had a good innings, at least he got well into his '70s. Troughton was cycling around Oxford in the first episode of Inspector Morse less than a year before he died, so he seemed pretty fit for a bloke in his '60s.
Loved wurzel gummidge growing up as a kid , programs for kids seemed so much simpler and more innocent those days, and I have great memories of wurzel, and jon pertwee played it with a charm and so much fun.....great times
He was a very witty man in interviews, him and Tom Baker are both incredible raconteurs. I would have loved to see an interview with them both together.
Everyone says the best Dr was the one they grew up watching, well Jon you were mine, and you were, are and always will be THE Doctor. RIP and miss watching you
During his time as the doctor i was a kid walked into a shop in Twickenham and he saw i was dumb struck and said hello my dear boy do you watch Dr. who. he didnt have to talk to me lovely man then years later during the show hes talking about in a chinese in oxford i wished him good evening and he struck up a little conversation. A talent and a Gentleman! missed! His son is a fine actor to!
I met Mister Pertwee and Sylvester McCoy in Atlanta, GA about 2 years before this interview was done. They were there with the traveling Doctor Who exibit. Wonderful fellows.
What a typical English Gentleman ! What ever happened to English and Americans with this type of class ? Everytime I see an old interview with somewon like him it reminds me of how much English Speaking culture has deteriarated. Our mainstram media has much to blame.
Jon Pertwee is the one I think about when I hear Dr Who. I wonder what he would think of today's Dr. Who! I would love to have met him, those who did are so fortunate.
He would probably publicly applaud it for being so modern and inclusive while privately being disgusted with it just like how literally everyone else feels about DW.
It's funny he talked about getting into a Vauxhall 30-98, and that became Bessie, but they don't look like Bessie, and least not the ones I saw in pictures. I looked up Bessie and the info I found says it was an Austin.🤔That said, I enjoyed this interview.
Bring back Aunt Sally with real name Una Stubbs and laugher Jon Pertwee and remembering the third Dr Who Series with Sarah Jane. Remembering the Old Wozel for Crowman and a slice of tea and a cup of cake and rest in peace Jon Pertwee and Terry Wogan and I miss um with the Purley gates👼✔
Saw the Ultimate Adventure at Oxford Apollo theatre. I remember Jon made a joke about Daleks conquering the universe with nothing more than an egg whisk. Also, everyone appreciated his much repeated phrase "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow".
One of my favourite Dr's, but was even better in The Navy Lark as he and Ronnie Barker were brilliant together. Both comic geniuses and both sadly missed.
@SaltyTestes It's just because I used to watch all of his episodes when I was a child and he was my idol. Now he's dead, just hard to believe, the daleks couldn't even put an end to him.
It's interesting that in this interview, Wogan already refers to Doctor Who as a show in the past tense when he makes the reference to Star Wars, when in fact Doctor Who was still on at this point and was only cancelled later in the same year as this interview.
....and just remembered, ive met the man. dressed a gummidge. !! brilliant memoryjust flashed past. he drove past on a three wheeled motorbike and gave me a lollipop at the local carnival in accrington ha. right near next door to where i live now, must have me wierd connections' head on!
@MarkR06 -Thanks- I saw him at the Essex Show many years ago when he was the Doctor, he was driving that old looking car he used to drive in one of the shows.
this is so funny! really good humour :D i like his voices that he can do! very good story teller-i got his depford mice audio book with him doing all the voices and stuff--jons fantastic!
if you loved the jon pertwee version of worzel, watch " scatterbrook days" its here on youtube, its a short film with some of the original cast and its amazing! thankyou.
Aaaaw lol I'd forgotten the great Jon Pertwee was still with us while Comic Relief has been around. loved him as the Doctor (I prefered Tom Bakers Doctor) but Worzel was my fave (y)
@NikkiClo That's not fair at all. He is promoting the Dr Who stage play here and they do discuss Worzel Gummidge. Search Jon Pertwee on Parkinson in 1980 on here, again on the BBC, and they discuss Worzel Gummidge and don’t mention Dr Who once!
I wish someone would think of a way to introduce someone who plays the Doctor, without them coming out of the TARDIS. He should have come in riding Bessie.
@kenpoman100 DUDE, he was born in 1919. Are you THAT selfish that you want an OLD MAN to replay the Doctor? He would be 90 years old if he was still alive. Stop being selfish.
@NinjaMatie he was born in 1919. I am sure that he was just tired of all of the exposure. He died quietly while on vacation int he US. Give an old man a break. "I can't believe he is dead."? LMAO DUDE!
This was just as he was doing The Ultimate Adventure! Giving it the nice guy act but I remember after the show at the stage door all the other actors were signing autographs but he wouldn't and was very rude and walked off. Lost all respect for the guy after that
met him in restaraunt in liverpool 1985 a gentleman r.i.p.
He seems like a great guy.
What a wonderful man.
Great interview. Love Jon Pertwee. He was my first Doctor. I've never missed Doctor Who since. It's a programme I have grown up with and still watch and will watch until I die. I'm 61 this year. Doctor Who is 60 in November. I just love it.
Love this man. A hoot to watch. Love him doing different voices... A gentleman.
John Pertwee brilliant Dr.
John Pertwee aged insanely well all the way up to his death he kept on his feet and was quite fit for his age just goes to show a heart attack or something like that can take anyone no matter how healthy they are
Also a superb actor both on tv and radio!
Richard Beckinsale is testament to that.

Loved wurzel gummidge growing up as a kid , programs for kids seemed so much simpler and more innocent those days, and I have great memories of wurzel, and jon pertwee played it with a charm and so much fun.....great times

You will be remembered as a legend.
He was a very witty man in interviews, him and Tom Baker are both incredible raconteurs. I would have loved to see an interview with them both together.
Lovely to see the great Jon Pertwee on the Wogan show. He was one of my favourite Doctor's.

What a delightful fellow.

Proud to be a Pertwee, Acting must be in your blood, you could be a future Dr.Who!
RIP loved him as worzel :-)

It's too bad you never met him, I interviewed on the phone once. I also met him at some conventions in Chicago. He was a nice man.
Saw the Ultimate Adventure at Oxford Apollo theatre. I remember Jon made a joke about Daleks conquering the universe with nothing more than an egg whisk. Also, everyone appreciated his much repeated phrase "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow".
Five years as doctor who
Loved worzal ❤❤❤❤❤

It kind of surprises me that Mr. Pertwee didn't mention that he designed and built the hovercraft himself.
Real Gent ❤️

I'll never be able to watch the chase scenes in "Planet of the Spiders" without thinking of Pertwee nearly doing in the BBC production crew now! lol
He Was So Ausome!
THE Doctor!!! Pertwee was unmissable as the Doctor.
Thankfully though I never watched Worzel Gummidge.

@tLlXenonFire AWESOME!
@kenpoman100 DUDE, he was born in 1919. Are you THAT selfish that you want an OLD MAN to replay the Doctor? He would be 90 years old if he was still alive. Stop being selfish.
I wouldnt mind having that coat that he wears over his jacket.
I can't believe he's dead :,[
My next best favourite to Tom Baker.
@Agui007 sacrilege!! no one is better even though Tennant is as good different but as good.
Best Doctor ever until Tom Baker came along. Still love his Doctor to bits.
@NinjaMatie he was born in 1919. I am sure that he was just tired of all of the exposure. He died quietly while on vacation int he US. Give an old man a break. "I can't believe he is dead."? LMAO DUDE!
WT*, When did he die-no?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
This was just as he was doing The Ultimate Adventure! Giving it the nice guy act but I remember after the show at the stage door all the other actors were signing autographs but he wouldn't and was very rude and walked off. Lost all respect for the guy after that
He was the most badass as well. But tom baker was just as good.
What a lovely man.
