Its pretty simple, all designed to insure dealer service revenue. Mercedes is very good at making things difficult for the majority of customers to give in and go to a dealer. I have two models, they love it when you drive through the door and pay $150 an hour for what should be simple tasks. Thanks to these videos many of us can bypass the dealer system.

Did it yesterday on a 2012 ml350, 9Pm, in the cold (not that cold but still), was great to have watch your video!!!
The only thing else the weight of the battery is that darn positive terminal, not easy to pull off back there nor putting back on!
Thanks god I was wearing thick gloves, wiggling that battery out would of pinch my fingers against sharp-ish edge.
    But happy I succeed!

So I changed the battery today. One thing I found out was that bracket with the two 13 mm screws has no role. It is not connected to the battery at all. I put the battery back in and the bracket went in the first time but I just could not put the screws back in since it kept moving all over the place. One of the screw fell and I had to the remove the heavy battery again which was really frustrating not to mention the pain of moving/aligning the positive terminal deep inside! I again tried but this time the bracket would not be in place and kept obstructing the battery position. I just left it out since if the screws falls then I got remove the battery again and again since the hand would not fit to initialize and screw a bit to start with even. I have tightened the battery terminals screws though. I hope that would be ok. Moreover the battery is heavy enough to be in place. What do you think please?

This is one of the funniest videos I've watched in awhile. What in the hell were the Mercedes engineers thinking when they did this? How do you move the seat forward with a dead battery? What a scam to force people unwilling or unable to do the work themselves into the stealership for a cool hour or two for labor. Yikes.
Glad this guy can break it down for anyone unfortunate to own such an stupidly over-engineered vehicle.

You're meant to attach a jump pack or something and hook it up to the jump posts under the hood.
Meanwhile in other cars you just pop open the hood and swap out the battery in the engine bay. God forbid that you have an electrically operated hood latch for whatever godforsaken reason the manufacturer had.

@0:24 To all my friends that live in countries that drive cars that have the drivers seat on the right hand side like myself. Do not cut the carpet underneath the passenger seat like I did (following this video). I hacked into the carpet and insulation almost breaking every panel to find that there was no battery "underneath the passenger seat". When I finally conceded defeat and checked the drivers seat for whatever reason..... I cried, laughed and was f***ed off for a minute or 10. The battery was under the drivers seat. Video should have just said the right hand side. Thanks me later. Please pin my msg so no other idiot does the same mistake :)

*Not all are like this lol! I have an S class and it is in the trunk. You just lift the rug and underneath where you would normally have a spare tire but more to the right!* (No need for ANY box cutters).
_However, i do hear you though! This is TOTAL and ABSOLUTE MADNESS! I have an R-class as well; and i only realized this craziness one day when i had left my lights on overnight and needed a jump. So the “jumping” driver believes in putting at least one end onto the actual battery (or something like that, am a lady who has zero knowledge). Well anyway, he asked me where the battery was and I said I didn’t know lol but to try the trunk since the S-class has it in the trunk. Not a chance!_
He finally spotted the “jumping” terminals under the hood and ended up jumping it. After he was done, he told me, “I’m still kinda curious where the F your battery is, so I’ll google it because I know for a fact it is not underneath this hood or back there!” I was definitely curious as well! We found a similar vid on Ytube and our jaws both dropped to the floor. I guess he had never jumped an R-class (or M-class above!). I was like wait, whaaaaaat? He said to me, “no wonder people complain the Mercedes Benz’s repair shops cost an arm and a leg, yeah, I would charge your first born too if i had to deal with this thing on a frequent basis! This is what some genius German engineers came up with? They can keep it!” He got me cracking up and i told him he doesn’t even know the half of it!
_I told him you can’t change a fluid like transmission fluid at home or even at your local Walmart on most of these Benzes! I told him you need a specific tool to pry open a little red tip. If you use just any tool to pry it off, it will break off and fall INSIDE! He said you’re kidding. I said, NO. And when you realize they did that on purpose so that you don’t mess with it and only take it to the dealership, you leave well alone even if you find it on Amazon, coz you’re sure you’ll fuqQ up and break that little red fragile tip! And don’t even get me started on how you can’t easily add something as silly as windshield washer fluid! I was thinking, why is this empty, when I first got one of them used. I looked for the thing and it’s on the grill somewhat anyway!_
*And it is not an upright container! In order to get into the reservoir, you have to go through this very narrow opening then a somewhat coiled S-tube, which then feeds into that reservoir which is like at some odd 45° angle or something like that! The moment I opened underneath the hood to try and fill, I figured out why that last owner had not bothered filling it especially if he knew he was planning on selling that car. I was unable to fill it then as well. (Had to get very creative later). I don’t even know why am on my 2nd & 3rd Benz, it’s INSANITY!*
