As most people know The Beach Boys were known for taking some Chuck Berry and combining it with The Four Freshman harmonies. They played at West Point in the mid sixties at the indoor field house. Gave me goosebumps. I was so excited I thought I was going to get sick. Not one note was off pitch. They did “Good Vibrations” and it was perfect.

It's so great that Brian Wilson was able to escape the psycho who controlled his life for a over a decade. He's done so many great releases since then. This is another album which I haven't listened to for awhile, although I have been something of a Brian Wilson kick for the last few weeks. So, it was great timing to have picked this! 👍

Thanks for doing Brian. I've been fortunate enough to meet him several times in the early 2000's, and he was a delight every time. He has so much energy about him, that he lights up a room. I always loved Al Jardine's comment about Brian being 'wired differently' to most people. The fact that after 60 years, he still gets blown away by Brian says a lot....

Never heard this stuff before........I remember fondly my interactions with Van Dyke. Such a wacky lovable character!. Brian Wilson is one of the benchmarks of creating harmonies in the pop/rock genre. Really dug that second tune especially. Maybe it's just me but the vocs kind of sound like Steely Dan ??

Hello Lee. Loved this recording and had a chance to tell Van Dyke how much I liked it several times. Met and spoke with him at the outdoor theater show on Topanga Cyn. back in the early to mid 90's and also hanging with he and Melinda Wilson up at the sound board at the Brian Wilson Troubador show. Van is truly a special guy and the music he and Brian produced was pure magic! This is a great album. Thanks for sharing some of the tunes! Slow down and cool off my friend! Take care!

I asked Van Dyke to autograph my copy of "Orange Crate Art" when I worked with him in the studio once. He was exceedingly kind, conversed with me about mutual friends, and wrote a several sentence dedication on the CD cover and even drew a profile of himself. What a fine gentleman and consummate musician.

Brian Wilson fascinates me. Not sure why. Could be all he has overcome over the years (death of brothers, mental illness) and he keeps going. Been watching the videos from the Beach Boys Stars and Stripes album and replaying I Can Hear Music (Kathy Troccoli, what a voice) And then hearing Darian Sahanaja sing in other videos- sounds so much like Carl Wilson on some songs. Thanks for the music today, Lee. Have a great evening/tomorrow everyone

In Troy, Montana we've been getting over 100 degree days for the last 5 days. I hades the heat. Any chance of bringing back the good old days of musicians getting together at recording studios creating genius tracks, riffs, groves etc., etc., into songs? Double edge sword with advancements in technology. Hope your four legged "kids" are doing well.

Another LP's which, at least to me, captures the spirit of Kerouac and those crazy Beats. A pleasant Californian 'road' movie plays in my head when I listen. I bought this LP back in the 90's and I recall having the thought that music just does not travel the way it once did. At the time I read about it in one of my music magazine subscriptions when it was already well over a year old. Back in the 'day' I would have heard a tune like My Hobo Heart on one of those underground FM radio stations. Hell, someone may have played the entire LP w/o interruption on the air and then go on about all the 'hip' musicians that lended their talent to the effort. Personally, I kinda like it when the world of Literature and musical art collide, get jumbled up and comes out in a whimsical tune by the likes of Dylan, James Taylor, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell or some pop band from the UK and massages my ears as well as my brain. It's a beautiful thing you are doing here on this new modern version of a BE-AT moment in time here on the UA-cam. Thanks & continue to be "cool" in body and soul.

I think I actually bought some of these and they're in my old XP-Pro computer. I need to move stuff over to the newer computer that can safely go online, where I can get things out and play them easier. The navigation on my old XP is just a lot faster and intuitive in terms of productivity all around.

VD Parks is an immensely talented musician/lyricist/arranger (and, I might add) a fascinating conversationalist. Like Randy Newman, he has a unique outlook that so many of our most creative artists possess. It must have been one of the highlights of your long and illustrious life, Leland, to have worked with them.
ORANGE CRATE ART remains one of my favorite albums. Anyone who knows VDP is likely aware of the calling card he carries with him. It reads: MR. VAN DYKE PARKS APOLOGIZES FOR HIS BEHAVIOR ON THE NIGHT OF (fill in the blank) & SINCERELY REGRETS ANY DAMAGE OR INCONVENIENCE HE MAY HAVE CAUSED (followed by his email & url addresses). Wasn't Dennis Budimir in the Palace Guard? I saw them at the old Hullabaloo club (formerly the Hollywood Palladium, featuring a revolving stage) in I believe '66. I was 16 going on 21. They wore these goofy palace guard uniforms, and as I recall they had one local hit, "Falling Sugar." Didn't he also have a brother in that band? I would have forgotten all about it except for your frequent mention of Dennis. And I live in Western Oregon where it was over 110 for four days, caused by a "heat dome" which in turn was caused by a misdirected Jet Stream. AC couldn't keep up. Orange crate art brought an idealized illustrated depiction of a bucolic, idyllic California of citrus orchards, mountain backdrops, and deep blue skies circa 1925.
