I’d love to have one of these. Unlike most of the internet, apparently, I didn’t expect it to look like the concept.... because that would have been much more surprising. Also, ZF 8 speed... wonderful gearbox.
Yeah, the bad thing is that they actually tried to implement the concept's design with all the wrong proportion. It is too short with too short wheel base and too high. Looks hideous in my opinion.
Here's what I don't understand; how is it supercars can look like literal science fiction shit from the future with some of the craziest front and rear ends AND be street legal? There was absolutely nothing about the GR concept that couldn't be done on a production car that was somehow so insane that it beat supercars in what's "street legal." People keep saying front and rear collision requirements or whatever bs, but you've got the '19 ZR1, or the Ford GT, with ridiculously pointed front ends or gaping vents. Hardly anything that could even be considered a "front bumper." Anywho, aside from my distaste for a high percentage of actual BMW part numbers that can be found all over this Supra, what Toyota ended up making is a car with visually odd proportions (zero mention of performance). From any angle it just looks like things were either shrunk, or pulled all to fit within some arbitrary "box," rather than keeping AT LEAST the proportions of the GR. Which by comparison those proportions were sleek, attractive and actually cohisive bringing the entire design together. This is not that.
Hell it does look pretty close to the concept - more so than alot of concepts and productions we see. They did a great job transferring that concept into production i think as far as styling goes..

David As a BMW driver, I actually find it pretty refreshing to see a B58 with toyota quality control hahaha (not that BMW engines are actually that bad on their own)
Vitoman901 Not necessarily. It depends, really. BMW spends tons of money developing new engines and platforms for each new generation of car. I actually have a theory that that's part of what reduces the reliability, because with a German car, you are an early adoper of some sort of new technology no matter what model you get (but that's beside the point). They also spend millions of dollars making sure the doors open and shut just right, making sure each button clicks just right, the suspension and steering feel just right, and so on. Ironically, they even spend money making sure the blinker stock feels perfect even though nobody will use it, haha. The thing is that BMW's quality control is about the reliability of the car to a reasonable degree, but most of the effort goes toward the performance and the tactile feeling you get when interacting with the car if that makes sense. BMW engines are generally built pretty solid, but there's always those things that they either overlook or engineer to the cheapest degree they can while still maintaining the driving experience. Long story short, BMWs are exceptional drivers cars but little problems will start popping up if the user isnt extra dilligent with the preventative maintenance. It doesn't mean the cars are lemons (the B58 has been a great engine so far actually), but Toyota and Lexus are definitely known to last longer. The partnership pretty much results in a car that will theoretically be exciting to drive and tuner friendly like a BMW, but reliable like a Toyota!
I don't mind the BMW/Toyota combination. I just hate the ugly side profile and the lack of a manual transmission. If I had the money, I'd buy a used cayman.
William Brown I think the car looks a little funky too, and I'm surprised there wasn't more done to make the interior look a bit more Toyota-like. I agree though, I use an automatic myself, but it's still kind of strange seeing BMWs (and by extension, Supras) without a manual especially since the automatic was barely a second thought just a fee years ago. I also agree that however good the supra is, you definitely can't go wrong with a Porsche haha

I feel like that stupid cop-out excuse is so tired since being used on the Miata since it's creation. It's like they think you can only use 100% throttle or 0%; it's not an on-off switch and if it doesn't add weight it will NOT affect the "balance" of the car. It's been the single most complained about part of the Miata and it's not surprising it will be on the Supra as well. I guess every other sports car on the planet is just "not balanced."

At this price, it is more affordable that the MKIV was when it was on the market when adjusted for inflation by several thousands of dollars. In 1996 the MKIV Supra Turbo was $50,400. In current dollars, that would be over $89,000. It was too costly for the general public. Just have to wait a few years for the used Supras to hit the market.
Quadcore14 people are getting 600hp stock on the bmw motors. They’re very capable but people are stuck in the 90s and don’t want evolution. All the new Supra needs is a manual option for the purists.

jj martin what’s wrong with bmw interior? Its miles better than any Toyota interior . Glad they decided to put bmw interior at least it’s not cheap plastic everywhere and it has I drive definitely worth every penny now
14:30 I think they absolutely thought of it. There is a reason the B58 happily puts out 400+hp in 340i trim and they shipped the Supra with "335hp". Stage 1 will be 400ish. Stage 2 will be an intercooler (which they say Toyota made easy to change), downpipe, and ECU for ~440hp.
Excellent track presentation. Tada said the overriding goal was balance and as you demonstrated Toyota seems to have achieved it. So this is the least expensive BMW B58 powered car. Well done Matt. Now get Zack in it for the road revue, please.
Yes! This could be a good option for those who want more sports car and less track car. I think the Supra also looks a lot more interesting than the hopped up 2 series.

I’m so sick of reading anything the ignorant say about this car that I almost didn’t come to the comments. It’s all “blah blah, terrible this, bmw that, no 2jz”
Hey BMW, thanks very much for lending the Supra the best straight six German beef and a high grade interior without the usual scratch plastic. This is by far the best Japanese sports car bar the Nissan Skyline, this car will open up a new market for Toyota that the GT failed to achieve. The best of Japan with a German engine and interior, folks you can complain.
I like the new Supra, and I was pretty shocked to see that you were testing at my local track, Im about 15 minutes from Summit Point. I actually saw one of the new Supras on the highway on my way home from work last week haha.
Your reviews are the best Matt. You are a master at presenting subjective information that makes sense to the public instead of all that other run-of-the-mill journalist mumbo jumbo. Anyone can read off data, but you make that data applicable to the "feel" of the ride. Props bro. I want a Supra! HA!
This looks like it's just a really fun car to track in stock form. Like you said, you could spend all day out there. Other cars in it's category may be faster and set better lap times in stock form, but they also require more attention and concentration, and in turn put more strain on the driver, which in turn could cause the driver to get worn out after just a few laps. And the best thing with this Supra is that it will be a great platform to build off of to match whatever skill level the driver is at, and could be progressively built as the driver improves his skills. Well balanced cars like this get me more excited than cars where the whole focus is power, and there aren't enough reasonably priced examples being offered. Really big props to Toyota for not giving in to the horsepower wars and focusing on producing a well balanced car at a reasonable price.
Your partially right about Toyota going with BMWs in-line six. They originally teamed up to make lithium ion batteries with each other and with the combination they decided to partner up to build a new z4 and Supra
This has quickly become one of my go-to cars in GT Sport VR. It breaks traction easily but super well balanced so it's easy to play with, a ton of fun, and confidence inspiring which results in quite respectable lap times. Really wish I could swing a 2 seater IRL. This would be way up on the short list.
Awesome its growing on me. I can't wait to see what kind of numbers it makes once tuners get their hands on it. Intake, headers full exhaust, downpipe, dyno tune. It will probably easily make 450-500whp

In current dollars, that would be over $89,000. It was too costly for the general public. Just have to wait a few years for the used Supras to hit the market.
Matt, I’ve since watched four videos of the Supra launch at this track and hands down you’ve done the most detailed & entertaining video so far 👍🏼
That gearbox looks really fast for a 'regular' car.
ZF transmission is really good
It says something when you’re having gradually more and more fun in a car. And that happened with Matt. That’s a good sign.
Looks like a great car and people need to wise up about the no 2JZ not buying nonsense. Those BMW 3L I6 engines are the new 2JZ engines.
Quadcore14 people are getting 600hp stock on the bmw motors. They’re very capable but people are stuck in the 90s and don’t want evolution. All the new Supra needs is a manual option for the purists.
@@zolphdiggler Manuals are great but even when you look at the mk4 supra numbers auto were really popular so... also that ZF 8 speed box is going to be great for 99% of buyers and therefore no accountant is going to allow a manual to be developed.
Quadcore14 idk about 99% probably about 60% of buyers want a auto
Anthony mean while you can get 800 bhp with stock internals with the 2jz
But thats not the point people are annoyed about, people buy a Toyota because they want a Toyota and not a bmw. I just wanted it to be a manual :-(
@@Chris-us8yq yeah I may have been a bit generous with that figure but you get my point. When it comes down to people with the money to spend, it will probably not be the major deciding factor after the test drive.
One of the few people who are actually pushing it on the track to give us a legit review.
50/50 balance until Matt sits in it
And if he's sitting in the middle?
I can tell Toyoya absolutely nailed it. It's better than a fezza, lambo, etc from a enthusiast point of view.
You mean BMW nailed it.
@@richpryor9650 BMW certainly didn't, just go find reviews of the new z4.
When's the 2020 Honda S2000 with an Audi engine coming out ?
Wow, when you put it that way it sounds blasphemous. I’ve just downgraded my opinion of this car. I guess that in order to justify the business case on this car they had to partner with BMW. Shame. But it does sound good!
2.5 tfsi would make an s2k a rocket. eveyone needs to chill and be more open minded.
ibanezmetal16 id be open minded about the s2k if it comes with a 9k redline
@@medogabr9952 That sounds closed minded to me.
ibanezmetal16 i drive a 340i. I love the b58. I truly desire the mk5 supra and cant wait to see the supra tunes come out cuz im totally gonna use them on my car
Its great to see the Supra name back. This gives me hope that Toyota will find the confidence to produce one of their own in the near future.
It's Good, It's fast, and It's fun - Matt Farrah 2019 on the new supra
But who really wants one? Not me
The Truth me!
If i could afford one, I would!
Nice job Matt! No one id rather take a spin with on the track in a car neither of us have driven before. Keep up the real deal commentary that’s why I am a fan. Love ya bro
Needs a manual trans
I'm shocked Bushido hasn't posted a triggered millennial comment about milk and manuals.
Just saw the interview with the chief. N was impressed with what he said about the tunability of this. Alot of things they have already prepared for tuners.
I’m surprised that the interior isn’t unique to the supra. It’s basically a 3 series interior.
If it was like the Supra it would be dope
Yeah it’s mainly 1 series and 3 series parts inside 😞
What the hell was Toyota thinking when deciding to bring back the Supra?? O lets be lazy and just borrow the design from a Germán manufacturer??😳😳
jj martin what’s wrong with bmw interior? Its miles better than any Toyota interior . Glad they decided to put bmw interior at least it’s not cheap plastic everywhere and it has I drive definitely worth every penny now
14:30 I think they absolutely thought of it. There is a reason the B58 happily puts out 400+hp in 340i trim and they shipped the Supra with "335hp". Stage 1 will be 400ish. Stage 2 will be an intercooler (which they say Toyota made easy to change), downpipe, and ECU for ~440hp.
wow it looks really good in those corners!! loving it even more now!! 😍
Excellent track presentation. Tada said the overriding goal was balance and as you demonstrated Toyota seems to have achieved it.
So this is the least expensive BMW B58 powered car.
Well done Matt. Now get Zack in it for the road revue, please.
I cannot wait to see a comparison test between this and the M2 competition
M2 will eat the Supra's lunch, but at a higher price.
The comp and the og m2 will eat this for lunch. This supra seems like a m240i tbh. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 240.
Yes! This could be a good option for those who want more sports car and less track car. I think the Supra also looks a lot more interesting than the hopped up 2 series.
M2 Competition would destroy this, that car is M4 fast. Think the standard M2 is a better comparison.
@@tonyb8066 don't be so sure
I really appreciate this review. You’re taking about how it handles at the limit, turn in, power delivery, etc. ...everything I want to know.
I’m so sick of reading anything the ignorant say about this car that I almost didn’t come to the comments. It’s all “blah blah, terrible this, bmw that, no 2jz”
Without Supra, I wouldn't be a master driver
Hey BMW, thanks very much for lending the Supra the best straight six German beef and a high grade interior without the usual scratch plastic. This is by far the best Japanese sports car bar the Nissan Skyline, this car will open up a new market for Toyota that the GT failed to achieve. The best of Japan with a German engine and interior, folks you can complain.
Embargo must've just dropped because half of my subs just gave me a shitload of new Supra vids at once lmao
Yep, lifted at 6pm eastern according to Rob Dahms video

What do you mean by embargo
I like the new Supra, and I was pretty shocked to see that you were testing at my local track, Im about 15 minutes from Summit Point. I actually saw one of the new Supras on the highway on my way home from work last week haha.
*mutes NBA playoffs*
Your reviews are the best Matt. You are a master at presenting subjective information that makes sense to the public instead of all that other run-of-the-mill journalist mumbo jumbo. Anyone can read off data, but you make that data applicable to the "feel" of the ride. Props bro. I want a Supra! HA!
Been waiting on your video on this. Thanks man for amazing grind
Lower center of gravity than the 86...
I always thought the flat four lower center of gravity seemed kinda gimmicky
Your partially right about Toyota going with BMWs in-line six. They originally teamed up to make lithium ion batteries with each other and with the combination they decided to partner up to build a new z4 and Supra
But you still hit it on the nail though
Lunch Edition is perfect for getting Smoked Meat at the Drive Thru
Asa Corvette man I want this car to be well received and loved. Go Toyota took awhile but it’s here. A true and true sports car
In gtsport this car oversteers like crazy, I suppose they stayed true to the cars characteristics.
This has quickly become one of my go-to cars in GT Sport VR. It breaks traction easily but super well balanced so it's easy to play with, a ton of fun, and confidence inspiring which results in quite respectable lap times. Really wish I could swing a 2 seater IRL. This would be way up on the short list.
fondfarewell2 ! - it looks very scary, I’ve never seen Matt slide all over the track like a maniac this much. No way.
Great review man. People way underestimate how hard it is to keep a car on the limit and deliver compelling dialogue. 👏🏼👏🏼
No manual :-(
Most likely coming at some point later aka few years.
@@Rentta Most likely not. BMW are fully out of the manual game and living that slushbox life.
@B. C. We care
buckleyjteams you could call up Quaife or Samsonas.
Its marketing. Manual will come later so you can trade in your auto for it.
Awesome its growing on me. I can't wait to see what kind of numbers it makes once tuners get their hands on it. Intake, headers full exhaust, downpipe, dyno tune. It will probably easily make 450-500whp
"these are the stats, and statistics"
Wow.

Let's wait to see if Toyota corrected these problems. They were very aware of BMW's weaknesses as well as their strengths and put a lot of time into correcting them to give this car Toyota reliability. This may surprise the doubters.
Tuning companies better start buying their Supras lmao, that engine has so much potential
Fast and Furios made the supra pupolar, is just a GT car with a strong engine.
Problem is Supra fans think this car is at GT-R level. Sorry it's not.
Yep like the TT 300zx; sport touring. 150 mph sure but drives like a sofa from the factory.
Aha, that’s why many GTR owners swap their engines for 2jz
@@imOJOmran exactly that's why LS swap everthing. Keep the 2jz engine throw away lame mk4 supra. New or old supra is just a GT car 300hp (lame) with F&Furious syndrome.
Yep, Japanese Camaro.
@Dragos BotaEngine is awesome, I was referring to the car. I don't think is a great sports car, F&F movie made it to be excessively glorified all fan boys really. Very similar like with the civic
Matt’s review almost converted me, it’s missing 2 important Supra characteristics, a manual gearbox and driver-centric interior.
Looks like a sweet red paint and a dam quick run to sixty mph...4.1 is impressive. Thanks for the informative review Matt .
4.1 is Def impressive. Can't wait to see what people do with these within a few months. Some tires and a tune should get it high 3s
Wow, Matt trying really hard to prove this car doesn’t suck and is NOT a disappointment.
Bringing back this car was an easy slam dunk, and they somehow fucked it up. So weird.
Define "fucked it up"?
Because Its almost sold out globally...
Ya think you're looking for the lfa, its the supra u wanted
Good one. Watched already a few reviews but this is by far the most succint and plainly explained. Interesting and informative video !
I like how people like Matt who has driven everything! Like the car says it's a good car, yet you see people still complaining in the comments , petty
You're complaining too though
@Commentor1 his trip was paid, but not his opinions.
This car don't need manual for this car. If you want all of clutch kick for drifting, etc. there in no problem to adapt virtual clutch pedal with aftermarket TCU controller. Bartosz Ostalowski is using the same ZF8HP transmission in drifting and it's way cheaper and quicker shifting option than sequential.
It's not an enthusiasts cars, sorry it's not. Supra is a legend, really Matt?

Glad to see someone that can drive doing a review. Most of the other review testers drive like my grandma.
It has an organic beauty. It is beautiful when it is in motion.
Ohhhh how the tuners are gonna just mack on that inline 6. You're gonna see these things with 600+ horsepower and crazy widebody/aero kits in no time.
"It does share some things." lol
I was a little turned off by the thought of it pretty much being a reskinned beemer, but honestly my only problems with it are no 6MT, and no handbrake. Other than that, I’m stoked to see what people end up doing with this car.
Didn't like the new Supra initially. Watches Matt drive it one time, I'm impressed with it🤔😂😂
I actually like the new Supra just wait till the tuner community starts getting their hands on it more and more I think this car has a lot of potential and it has a light chassis can’t wait to see them running the streets like the older supra
I'm just happy its RWD, small, and balanced
Tired of these big ass sedan FWD/AWD "sports cars". RWD is pure joy.
I’m not sure I agree with the small part. That’s actually my only real gripe about the car, I think it should be a bigger car more in the GT class than a small sports car.
This thing looks soooo good and well balanced. Gonna be a great little car for the enthusiasts that can afford them.
The new Supra is an amazing track machine
Cannot wait to see people wrap and mod these to do a 2019/2020 take on the Paul Walker Supra from the first fast and furious movie
Perfect car for me would be GT86 with this engine.
I always trust Matt's opinion on cars over other reviews
