      But why does this thing need to have a radiator "look"? What is that for? Why look like every ICE SUV? This comes out 8 years after the Model X and gets less range? Please. ps: I know they all do it, the I Pace, the Audi, and the MB all have "radiators". Again, why?

      @@SDav21 It matters a lot for the power consumption. A low drag coefficient is the best way to increase range on BEVs.
      Model X standard range: drag coefficient 0,24, battery size 75 kWh, WLTP range 375 km
      EQC: drag coefficient 0.29, battery size 80 kWh, WLTP range 360 km
      The Model X is a lot faster, bigger, heavier and has a longer range with a smaller battery.

  • @autogefuehl

    Interesting consumption detail: The highest consumption including the 0-100 km/h acceleration was 33 kWh/100 km. The lowest consumption after reset and setting cruise control was 14 kWh/100 km. The average of min. and max. figure is 23,5 kWh/100 km which is indeed the figure we also had after driving the car for a very long time. Funny, isn’t it? Shows again that using average between the extremes is a pretty strong means =)

    Drove the EQC 1886 AMG model this week on a test drive. Interior driving displays were clear and impressive. Rear leg room lower than I expected when front seats in driving position. Boot base is high (interior boot height of 650mm won't get a medium size dog inside). Feels a big car, with large roof pillars. Wife liked it. Easy and comfortable to drive. Plenty of power, and sure footed. Jaguar I-Pace and Audi E-tron test drives next.

    Well done, Thomas! I always enjoy your reviews of electric vehicles. I bought a Chevrolet Bolt EV (Opel Ampera-E) last year and I love driving it. Electric cars are so calm and relaxing to drive, I would never go back to a petrol car. I think Mercedes could have been a bit more daring with the front end design of the EQC. But of course they want to appeal to customers who may be a bit more conservative. However, I think it's much better than the front design of the Audi e-tron which looks a bit cheap. The EQC's interior shows some nice innovations in design and especially great choices for sustainable materials. The launch model with its blue accents is my favorite design. Cheers to you and the Autogefuhl team!

    Like the Juha Driving Academy jacket. Great Review. Nice light coloured interior version - do those air vents have an oar motive? Not sure about the safety aspects of ACC slowing for roundabouts - complacency issues? Or GPS camera augmented reality function - driver's eyes diverted from the road? As always, you get a very good idea of the car when going for a nice relaxed drive with Thomas! And listen to his commentary. But I will await his Review of the Tesla Model 3. • @dzerres
      @dzerres 4 роки тому +3

      @@thorH. Range anxiety used to be a thing until the legacy automakers tried their hand at building an electric car. When they couldn't match Tesla they decided, suddenly, that it doesn't make much difference. Hilarious. Please note, MB pulled the release of the EQC in the US because they just don't compare to any Tesla on price, range, speed, charging or infrastructure.

    • @thorH.
      @thorH. 4 роки тому

      Dieter Zerressen No, because it doesn’t because range is something that is nice to have, not needed for the most people. You only need enough for your Daly life. And yes they try harder to improve on that and yes they do not match Tesla in their Battery technology, which is a shame, but Tesla just had the first mover advantage. And this car is way more expensive, but it is also of better quality. Tesla can not compete with that. Even all Tesla channels who review the EQC said so....

    • @thorH.
      @thorH. 4 роки тому

      Dieter Zerressen oh and yes but MB is a European Company not predominantly in the US, which is the reason they take part in building the European charging infrastructure right now.

  • @ColinFox
    @ColinFox 5 років тому +7

    I'm glad that companies other than Tesla are starting to make EV's, but I'm disappointed that they're not really trying. The model S came out 7 years ago, and had a frunk, 400+ kms range, 0-60 of 4s (for the P85+ anyway) a 17" touchscreen with google maps and traffic for navigation...
    This new Mercedes has no front trunk space at all, 5s 0-60, and a nav that isn't as good. Thomas missed the turnoff in the roundabout, and if you watch that bit, there's no pop-up or anything telling him which exit to take, so he's got to actually look closer at the map (focussing away from the road) more than he should. On a Tesla, there would be a pop-up in the dash (or on the side, in a model 3) that tells you which exit to take, with enough notice that you don't miss it.
    I also have air suspension in my P85+, which I got 6 years ago. Why would Mercedes not even offer it in their newest car? So - no frunk, no air shocks, mediocre range, mediocre acceleration, and the MBUX is a lot more complicated to use than the Tesla infotainment.
    All in all, I'm disappointed in this offering, and I don't think they're going to sell a lot of them. There will be some mercedes die-hards that will buy, but I'm guessing that the sales numbers will be disappointing, leading to a bad aftermarket, which will lead to expensive leases.

    • @thorH.
      @thorH. 5 років тому +2

      Colin Fox Ok, so first don’t compare the acceleration of your model S with a big SUV. The acceleration stats of a model X are only slightly better, so is its range. One of the major reasons fo that is, that the EQC has a front grill. That is better fo cooling the battery.
      Most people rarely need the range a model S gives you, especially in Europe.
      The front trunk in Teslas is nice, but not a must have. It is not like every single gas has it and no one really messes it there either.
      I hate it, that people say, that it took Mercedes soo long to make a stat wise worse car, and that they aren’t trying.
      This statement is false and widely publicized in the Tesla community.
      A lot of car companies invested heavily into electric cars, and they are trying, just started a couple years later.
      Just because you have a big touch screen, which is a design choice, and people think it is superior, doesn’t have to be something bad. In this Mercedes you still have the option to most of the important things your Tesla can do. And as far as I know, Teslas don’t have voice control, I could be wrong on that one tho.
      I am also someone who spends a lot of time in the Tesla community, but please stop hating on the other car companies for waiting a little bit longer.
      It is just annoying.

    I love the car very much. I would love to buy one, but it is not sold here because we have yet to have an electric platform at all. No hybrids or electric vehicles, not even Tesla is here. I was prepared to be underwhelmed by this, the more so as I'm normally an SUV hater, but I'm very impressed with the execution of the EQC. I particularly like how it's lowered compared to the GLC, and in fact it seems more like an expanded version of my B-Class electric drive, which has been a very pleasant car to own. Thinking on the B-Class, which was produced for three years using a Tesla driveline, what was lacking most (aside from range) was software, and it seems like Mercedes has really stepped up in that regard with the EQC. I'm particularly gratified that Mercedes has shown here that they take EVs very seriously as the future of motoring, and I think can expect to sell a lot of these. The customers I think will be a mix of current MB owners and people who are attracted to it as an EV but sold on the MB luxury and quality. That's what preorders on the Porsche Taycan look like and I think it will be similar with this. Anyway, I now think electric SUVs are A-OK. Sure they are less efficient than sedans, but you can get a 100% renewable electric supplier for your home and run this car fully green, in which case the more electricity you use, the better, and the popularity and profitability of SUVs will help automakers make the transition to EVs.

      @john collymore - Agree - we love our Nissan E-NV200 Combi, but only charge at home overnight. Ok, it has a very short range, so we only drive locally, because in the past we've arrived at various charging stations to find them faulty or occupied. Once we waited for a Leaf to finish charging, then the driver never returned. And it was a bleak place to wait, a long long walk from where we wanted to be...

    Guys, i think Electric & Hybrid cars cancel all the advantages, they provide.
    Very few car reviewers or mechanics, will speak the language of truth..
    First of all,
    1) After 5-8 years of use..the battery range will fall apart 5 - 15%...
    Every new year..the range..will be decreased..
    So, when the time comes , to change the battery pack, how much it will cost?
    5.000 euro ?
    10.000 ?
    15.000 ?
    More?
    Are you willing to pay that amount of money ?
    These information all test drivers , must ask the car companies and inform the public.
    2) How much thousands of euros will be the cost of the inverter or the electric system, if it fails ?
    And don't tell me it never fails..
    For example, the first generations of Toyota prius inverter was burnt out...overheated.
    The price for a new one, was 4 - 5.000 euro..
    Imagine if something happens to the electric motor or any of the electric circuits of the cars from luxury brands as are
    Tesla, BMW, Mercedes...
    How much will cost ?
    3rd...You wish to sell the car with the old battery?
    The price depreciation , will be so deep...
    Who is gonna risk it and buy it?
    So, I dont care if Mercedes or Tesla have super fancy electric cars..
    I refuse to pay 1,5 times its price..after few years.
    Unless, i will be millionaire and burn my money, changing cars for fun.
    Are you so rich ?
    Buy that toy..
    Well, the choice is yours.
    All new cars are super..until the first malfunction arrives..
    So, for me..the question is...
    HYBRID, ELECTRIC OR DEISEL ?
    And unfortunately, deisel is more economic, if you wish to keep it for a long long time.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  5 років тому

      So far it shows that electric vehicles have way less maintenance costs and that the batteries hold longer than expected. There was recently a test where a Tesla battery was working over 1 million kilometres in a stress test

    • @SilverIndian
      @SilverIndian 5 років тому +1

      Autogefuhl, 1 test of a Tesla car, doesn't mean Tesla electric cars or every electric car battery, will last long.
      Batteries suffer not from the distances-kms a driver do..
      The enemy of battery is the time.
      For example the 12V we have in car..even the best one lasts for 5 years ,no matter the kms you made..
      The time is against them
      Lots of owners with electric or hybrid cars ,having to change the battery pack before the first 10 years...when, the car will return you the profits ?
      Also, Tesla building quality is not good...
      - Plastics break ...
      - Fails of electric mechanisms from doors, windows etc.
      - Maintaince cost is expensive & you can go only at authorized Tesla service centers.
      - The water from the rain goes inside...
      - The plastics inside are not fitted well..
      - Parts are expensive..
      Just look the youtube videos..
      The maintaince cost will be less with the deisel, even if you chance a failed turbo or DPF filter..
      I am not fan of deisel technology..but cost in general, will be less..much less..

    You don't need a test drive. Just watch Thomas' review, go to the dealership, and by a car. Amazing content. I really liked the futuristic look of the prototype. We will get them maybe in the next generation. But it is better, and safer to go with something like this. Sort of a blend between old, and new design. I like it. But i don't understand Mercedes on front wheel drive. If we take top 3 German manufacturers i would never go with Audi. I like their cars. They are beautiful, and properly built, but they are front wheel drive. That may stir away few people from this car. Also the Air Suspension. They offer it on C-Class which is half the price of an EQC. Why not on this car? Apart from those two things this is a brilliant car. If they included the Air Suspension, and rear wheel bias on the drive train this would be ,in my opinion, the best electric car by far in the consumer category. If i would be buying this type of car now i would compare the other offers. Try them out. Just because of FWD, and no Air Suspension. If it had RWD bias, and Air Suspension I wouldn't bother with the competition. I know you are reading the comments Mercedes. Think harder for the next car release. Excellent review Thomas.

    Mercedes Range? Probably the most important feature. Also, where in the USA is the charging network with Tesla type superchargers? Absolutely essential if you want to go on a trip that is greater than ~50% of the range? IMO looks like it is an expensive around town/commuter car with probably less than a 100-mile one-way range. Don't see many of these sold without a vast supercharging network that rivals Tesla especially on the West coast where we love electric cars. Just on the block where I live, there are 6 Teslas. My neighbor routinely drives his Model S 6 hours to LA with no issues. How can you do that with this car?

    • @Orielparadise
      @Orielparadise 5 років тому

      mlhm5 It’ll sell well in Europe where most governments invest in super charging networks rather than just exclusive corporation networks.

    Looks like a great car. But I will never undestand German manufacturers and their millions of options. They should do it like Japanese manufacturers or Tesla: Deliver a great base model with 80% of the features and only a few things can be added. From a production perspective this is much better.

    Thank for the review. Great as always. But again, one more luxury EV. The real thing will happen when we get 30K (EUR,USD,CHF) car with at least 500km.
    Who will be the first? That company will sell a lot off cars.
    While battery is expensive, electric motor is so much cheaper and electronic control is simpler (and cheaper), that in the end, EV is cheaper to make than equivalent ICE car. But they are selling them more expensive.

    I can't get over of how far away this car is away from market needs. Not to get me wrong, it is looking nice and in my opinion one of the best looking MBs out there. However, who needs this? People have been bashing on BMWs i3 and the new VW id.3, but these two are exactly the kind of full electric vehicles that could change and shape the German automotive market. A 2.4 ton electric SUV for over 70.000 EUR - sorry Mercedes, but this is just laughable. The targeted market is so small and off budget for the majority of car buyers that I will be nothing more than an extra toy or second car for those who can afford it. Electrification of the automotive market needs to focus on: urban usage (size and practicality), affordability (price) and acceptance (design, sense and achievability) - otherwise there will be no changes on the roads and the German automotive industry will still be frowned upon. I still remember when people kicked BMWs a** because the i3 cost more than 30.000 EUR - yet this is still in reach and a true alternative for urban users. This car however is a mismatch of what a change to electrification should focus on.

    Good review. However I think the key rival omitted is the Jag IPace. Considering Jag sells 1/10th Merc or Audi’s volumes I think they are in pole position in this new EV space...better range, drive dynamics, looks (IMHO) and price...IPace has smashed it out the park and these new entrants highlight the fact all the more.

    • @Adlore

The IPace is on a unique architecture compared to the etron and EQC which are heavily modified Q5’s and GLC and this is coming from a manufacturer that’s significantly smaller than those guys. So not a compliance car.

    I’m a big fan of the GLC AMG lineup. I’d personally prefer the traditional shape. This is kind of a stop gap. Mercedes are testing the water with the current EQ lineup and I think the next batch will be very very good. 2024/2025. In the meantime, I’d still consider this as it’s still a very very nice car and there are no compromises on quality.

    The front and rear end looks terrible. I don’t see this being much of a challenger to Tesla considering it’s unable to come close to even the shortest range Tesla Model 3, let alone the Model X or S. They’re also pricing this way too high. It’s a compact SUV priced at full-size SUV money. Model Y is going to sell 10:1 vs. the EQ C.

    I really want to like this car. I love Mercedes as a brand. But that front. First of I think it's misunderstood that the auto makers except for Tesla is trying to show their brand identity through what we know - ICE designs like air intakes and grills on the front. But on an electric car? It's fake. Also what a design mess imo. Lines and lines and swooping lines. I thought Mercedes was making a new sub brand so to say called EQ. Just like they got AMG and Maybach. They need to reinvent themselfs and be cool in a new way instead of a damn fake plastic radiator grills and chrome lines to resemble were the exhaust was. Not much innovation.
    For heavens sake they have innovated and changed their ICE designs time and time again through a 100 years and they pull this crab.
