John Bonham's TRIPLET Drum Lesson THE CHOPPING TRIPLET

  • While not actually a true triplet, it’s an important riff from the Bonham arsenal! I call it the 'chopping triplet' as the left hand (or right hand on a lefty set) acts as it's chopping wood; better yet, like it's karate chopping Ginger Baker for his very inaccurate assessment of JB's Swinging Ability ! Please hit the red SUBSCRIBE button to the right if you would care to! Thank you for watching my videos!
    Se my Bonzoleum Drum channel as I have over 500 related John Bonham/Led Zeppelin videos: lessons, covers, expositions, demonstration and discussions. I also have many other video topics: Other Band's Drum Covers, Vintage & New Drums & Drum Gear, Stewart Copeland/The Police, Cymbals, and Moxie The Dog. / bonzoleum

    The reason why Kick it Like Bonham doesn't have the subscribers like you is that you bring more than just drums and Bonham. You have humor, self deprecation, great stories, hilarious A.D.D, etc. plus, you play great and teach too.

    Terry you started lessons for beginners awhile ago, but only did a few. Are You going to leave us hanging ?? Maybe at the end of video just a thirty second lesson for beginners. Something for beginners to work on till the next video. It would give beginning drummers something to learn plus keep them progressing towards learning to play. Your such a great teacher !!

    You know what excercise I’ve been doing that I’m pretty sure I picked up from one of your triplet videos, this is to help if you need to get comfortable leading with your left(as I do), is just practice going 1&2&3&4& with your kick on the and and your left hand on the 1

    I wonder if that was what Bonham was doing when he would play. I noticed on some of the tracks where the drums are isolated you can hear him making sounds, singing out the parts. Idk, just wondering. Great video!!!!!!!!!

    Terry, have you thought to condition your left arm/hand with a heavier stick? To build up my forearms, I use a heavy set of marching sticks while doing rudiments. It works.

    • @bonzoleum
      @bonzoleum  6 років тому

      Thanks Mike-I have done that. My left arm is actually stronger than my right-but for whatever reason from snare to tom it has a strange ‘ maladaptiveness.

    Hey terry, been having an issue with learning Bonham style triplets or rolls or whatvere you wanna call them, i have trouble lining up the bass drum hits well and they always end up lining up with the floor tom hits, any tips that might help with this?

    • @harpapmac
      @harpapmac 6 років тому +1

      Brandon Quod yep.. do it SLOW..!!! and keep it SLOW until every blood cell of yours got it.. and an extra tip what you do with your strong hand you should the same with your weak.. Then you will see progress

    • @rubenspoolder3567

      To me it sometimes depends from bassdrum to bassdrum. If i find that i cant do it on one ill try losening or tightening the batterhead of the bdrum and playing with the seat hight a little. Also practice reaaallly slowly. Than over time when you get it go up in temp until you cant do it anymore and keep trying at a bit shower speed. Hope it helps

    Terry do u know how to do that engine idling thing that I hear drummers do?? It sounds like Bonham plays it during his solo when they show him in a drag car….unless i'm just imagining the drums sounds like a motor? I think he was doing it on purpose i dunno?

    Thats pretty hard to imitate someone elses style in drums.It's unnatural for your style but you do a good job great effort.It sounds better than a lot of others who play Bonham to clean,some good drummers are incapable of playing off the beat,you do well compared to many others I see on you tube who don't have a natural Bonham reflex & rythym.I don't think he counts at all.It's like he plays the lyrics and plays the beat before the lyrics before & after they are sung.His fills are lyrics based to.Word Syllable beats, his drums talk
