Brandon: "If you don't want Fast and Furious spoilers, skip five minutes." Me: **skips exactly five minutes** Brandon: "... and then he rips a minigun off and shoots a helicopter out of the sky."
Galaxy Quest. So many great one liners. Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman in fantastic comedic roles. The nerd references every where and trekkies learning it's all real. It's a completely unbelievable plot and we do not care.
I am not one for podcasts, in general, but I love this one. It's obvious Dan and Brandon are genuinely friends, and their topics of conversation are almost always very interesting.
I could imagine that some of the jokes don't sit right with at least Brandon, but the storytelling is one of the most masterful I have ever experienced and it would definitely be interesting to hear what they have to say about it. Especially since it has a very interesting way of handling the multiverse problems that Brandon mentioned in a previous video (when talking about the Loki) show.
@@felipecampos3045 lmao who cares about what they like, why waste all this time dumping on franchises you clearly neither care about nor know much about when you could just let him have his fun any way he wants

Because of Brandon and Dan i've seen so many movies and shows just to watch them talk about it. A lot of what they mentioned on this youtube channel i've watched and in a lot of cases wouldn't otherwise. For example Sneakers and Kung Pao i would've never watched if it was not for them. I am the most happy with Arcane recommendation, it is a masterpiece. Thanks Bran and Dan
I paused the video where they were talking about Wanda Vision, opened Disney+ and binge watched the entire season in one night. Then I continued with the podcast's episode the next day 😂
I love the first two Mummy films with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz and the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films (I was taking and LOVING a college class on Edgar Allen Poe when "At World's End" came out, and the whole "Into the Maelstrom"-esque finale was everything my heart desired). The Jurassic World films are also this for me. Big dumb fun!!! 😁
Jackie Chan was the epitome of action/whimsy for me growing up. The over the top fight scenes have always been fun. I think that’s why I liked Pirates of the Caribbean as a kid before realizing how tight the writing was when I got older. At least for the first movie.
The first movie understood that pirates are murdering r*pst thieves who deserve to die, but we can like Johnny Depp and dislike crooked politicians and be grateful for the semi-honorable middle man. All viewed through the lens of two innocents falling in love. The following movies lacked nuance.
@@dougfile6644 and bagles? Someone I know saw the film and completly missed the point of having all meaning of life lose all value and meaning. Its translatedin such a simple way they missed it
I couldn't believe they'd talk about action comedies and oddball films without discussing The Fifth Element, and then Dan sneaks in that reference to Ruby Rhod right at the end...
Being named after Bing Crosby, it makes me endlessly happy that it got brought up as having a fantastic movie scene! And yes, the scene Dan mentioned is such a good scene. Danny and Bing have great chemistry!
It took me a long time to watch this video because first I paused it and watched The Lost City, then came back. Kept watching, and then paused and watched The Cabin in the Woods, and now I'm back just about to finish the video. Delightful!
My favorite "whimsical" action comedy is Man from Uncle. The lunch/escape scene is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. If you've seen it, you know the one.
"have i whined to you about Shrek before?" "Yes, you have." "Then i will not do it again" ....wait no. Please do it again. Now i want an episode about shrek
Dan and Brandon should really watch Gravity Falls. Besides being the best piece of television in history, I also feel that it would have a lot of appeal for both of them in different ways which should be a fun discussion themes for the podcast.
Just watched that the other day. It's entertaining but too long, needed a better cut to make it snappier. It really drags in many places. It does make me want to see more Nic and Pedro buddy movies though
(Cosmere spoilers below) Brandon and Dan discuss whimsy in this episode. In the 4th Stormlight book, a Shard of Adonalsium named Whimsy is introduced. So I would like to ask Brandon: "Would life on Whimsy's planet be like the kind of movies you and Dan are discussing?
"Mission Impossible with cars." 🤣 That's a great way to explain the Fast and the Furious movies, starting with the fifth one! And Brad Pitt definitely stole the show in The Lost City
Genius over-the-top action movie: Last Action Hero. It is the governator at his cheesiest and best at the same time, and the spoofing of the action movie tropes goes to such level that it is so enjoyable the entire time. “Moe who?” “Zart.”
Iconic scene. 50 First Dates (not my fav movie). Adam Sandler in his boat cursing out her dad for giving him the CD and then slowly realizing the significance was 🎉 masterful.
Murphy says every book has the word 'undulate'. I now offer you that Brandon must say 'ad nauseam' in every Intentionally Blank episode 😆 Another fun episode, thankye Brandon, Dan and team.
The perfect whimsical action movie is RRR. It’s a 3 hour Bollywood masterpiece on Netflix. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and at the same time it has the most epic moments ever
Yes, I was going to say that! Would also love to see their takes on Baahubali 1&2 - mega whimsy but also real mystic storytelling that is part of a very different storytelling tradition to, say, western fantasy. RRR has so many nods to Hindu mythology alongside those epic moments!
Owen Wilson is a great actor. Everyone thinks comedies, but Behind Enemy Lines and Dargeeling limited are amazing films with Mr. Wilson. Especially Behind Enemy Lines. I loved that movie as a kid in the 90s/ 2000s
The first 15 min of "The Other Guys" starring Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg is something everyone needs to see. Such an over the top parodies of buddy cop movies.
True Lies is the most obvious choice for whimsical action movie for me. I also think it's a brilliant movie even though (because?) the details are completely absurd but in world it takes itself very seriously.
Interesting discussion about whimsy. And I have come to the conclusion that when it comes to pure comedy I personally prefer absurdism above whimsy. So while I like and fully appreciate The Princes Bride and Big Trouble, I adore Holy Grail and Brazil. Although it isn't really the same thing to me absurdism is whimsy on cocaine.
Just listening to you guys talk about an underground cave with a water escape started to give me panic. I 100% agree that underground caves and water are scarier than lava or open ocean
The part where the room with the massive charcuterie board gets blown away by the helicopter, and Sandra Bullock is trying not to laugh, might’ve been my favorite physical comedy in the movie lol
A Jackie Chan episode sounds wonderful. The only modern movie I've seen with action as fun as Jackie's old movies was the Thai film Chocolate, and that was from 2008.
Brandon, I just finished The Alloy of Law, and at the end, Wayne is reading a book about rabbits that talk. Is this referring to Watership Down by Richard Adams? And if so, how did he come to be in possession of it?
best whimsical action comidy i have seen is the new jumangi with the rock kevin heart jack black and karen gillan it just does over the top stupid fun so well!
Dan, you said a while ago that you read the comments. I concur with the other commenters... both you and Brandon need to watch Everything, Everywhere All At Once. It is easily the best whimsical movie I have seen in years...
It was when the Fast and Furious embraced the totally outrageous unbelievable over the top impossible action that they got good and your favorite scene is just one example of that. In Fast and the Furious even superman would loose to Dom (Vin). It is that over the top impossible, and fun because of it for a while. Whimsical action movies I would suggest would be Army of Darkness, and Remo Williams.
When a volcano erupts, you aren't trying to avoid the slow moving magma, you are avoiding the fast moving pyroclastic flows. The flows from Mount St. Helens were moving around 370mph.
I loved the movie, Brad Pitt totally stole the show. One great whimsical comedy I can think of is Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and my favourite Jackie Chan movie is Little Big Soldier, a must watch 💯/100
I think the trouble with a late-in-life first viewing of Big Trouble is that there have since been several over the top spoofs of martial arts movies to compare it to. So, with things like Kung-Fu Hustle out there, Big Trouble might seem a bit lackluster.
Fast and Furios is a shonen anime live-action, think about the progress of the stakes, the extremely powerful character, all of the end up being super spy fighters, even the tech guy. And the bad guys change hearts and jarajara.
I agree with a lot of what they said, I was also surprised about Channing Tatum's age. I think Sandra Bullok was a little bit stiff and Channing took it a little too much to the cringe side of things for me at times.
