We get it guys…. Big Ben is the bell, not the tower…. 🙄😅
*Completed in 1856, Big Ben was designed by architects Charles Barry and Augustus Welby Pugin and took 13 years to build.*
_You would of thought they'd finished it earlier considering they were all working around the clock._ 🤔 😏 😂
@@user-ob8en1ef4s nice pun 😂
Please STOP saying that! If countless millions have decided that the tower is called Big Ben then that's its name!
@@musik102 You mean millions of people getting it wrong should determine a name? What an interesting way to be wrong and live in your wrongness xD
Oh by the way... YOU ARE WRONG!
That may be true but everyone calls it Big Ben anyway. It’s only been called Elizabeth tower since 2012 for the last jubilee, before that it was just the clock tower.
Piccadilly Circus used to be festooned in adverts, billboards and neon from the 1920s onwards, that stretched for blocks but slowly from the 70s they got rid of them to reveal the beautiful buildings underneath, some of which they never knew what was lying beneath. They kept one facade for 'tradition'
That's not just any old warship moored up from tower bridge ,It's the last remaining ship that took part in the sinking of the Bismarck
The HMS Belfast you mean? I was really interested in it, but we didn’t end up filming much of it. I also don’t think I could do any justice giving it’s history 😅
Belfast took part in the sinking of the Scharnhorst, not the Bismarck.
And it took part in DDay too👍
plus the Korean War
I need to visit London next year. Watching from Alberta. Thanks 4 sharing your experience 😊
Thanks for watching! I hope you get the chance to visit London. Hoping to explore more of Alberta this summer!
Waterloo bridge has best view of London or any other cities because where it’s situated huge bend from Westminster to city of London really awesome view
We didn’t go over that one Unfortunately! But I’ll remember that for next time
Definitely... I use to ride my motorbike over it on my commute to work and it never got old... Particularly when the lighting on different days ever changing the appearance. You can't beat humming the iconic song Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks... I'm also reminded of Michael Caine walking over it and musing at the end of the iconic Alfie film.
Great stuff Lauren. Glad you are doing well. Looks like you have been having some amazing life experiences.
Hey John, thanks so much!! Hope you are doing well!
Great tour of London. Someday I would like to see the city.
We hope you get the chance to visit! It’s a great city
Thanks for sharing, great tour of London👍👍🤩🤩.
Thanks for watching Caroline!!
Lovely video- London looks like an amazing place with so much to see!!
Thank you!! It really is a great and vibrant city 🇬🇧
@@SirKonrad come up to manchester we don’t have as many old building but we have a modern vibrant city with lots of creative spaces for people to hang, express themselves etc.
Piccadilly Circus was compared to Times Square because it used to be festooned with neon and advertising on every block. Slowly though they started restoring the beautiful buildings behind (they had no idea what some of them looked like), but left one block out of 'tradition'.
Definitely prefer the architecture surrounding it than the big screens, but nonetheless it’s a cool vibrant area!!
Keep ‘em coming homie! 😎
I appreciate it bro!! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Great video , glad you had a good time.
Thanks so much for watching!
Great vlog! You definitely covered some mileage!
If ever you come again, I'd recommend The Jack the Ripper tour or the on off tour busses. They go to the tourist spots and you can get on and off as many times as you want.
We did! We love to pack as much in as we can when we’re only in a city for a short time.
Thanks for the recommendations and the comment!! 🙏🏼
Great video, you definitely packed a lot in!
We did indeed but it was great to see everywhere!!
Legend has it somebody once climber Big Ben and headbutted the bell.
Though he was never caught some witnesses claimed he looked familiar as his face rang a bell! 😂
😂
great video. we're leaving Toronto on our way to London in one month. i've been but my husband hasn't. i love Piccadilly as much as Yonge Dundas square. i love that Kyle mentioned Yonge Dundas. hey Kyle, did you notice the Canada goose in Hyde Park? those beasts can kill you lol
I did! And I kept a safe distance from those monsters of the sky 😅.
Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoy your time in London!
Great Vid chaps..enjoyed that..👍
Thanks for watching!! 🙏🏼
Very good video. Congratulations!! But I missed Camden Market. It is very cool! But I really liked it!
Thanks Luiz! I used to go to Camden market when I was a teenager (lauren) it’s very cool but unfortunately we didn’t have enough time this time hopefully we can go next time!
We visited London in 2019 and had the best time!! We'd love to go back one day. Thanks for the awesome content guys!!
Hope you guys get the chance to visit again soon! We appreciate you guys checking out the video 🙏🏼🙂
When it comes to favourite buildings mine's the Natural History Museum.
Lauren agrees with you, and I give it a close second!
Very enjoyable. Charming couple.
Thanks so much!!
You got some really lovely footage of Londinium! :D x
Thank you!! 🙏🏼
Love Hyde park.... During the 80's when it was St John's Ambulance centenary, our team led Prince Charles and lady Diana as we played. Old times hey !!!
That’s pretty cool! Would have loved to experience London in the 80’s!
Very interesting and cheers 🤩🙏🥰🙏
Thank you for watching!!
I love London, Been there close to 20 times, and there's still a lot of things I might have missed! Looking at the date, I think we might have been there at the same time! I was in London after Download Festival!
It’s one of those cities that has so much to offer, I imagine you could live there a long time and still not see it all!
We were there May 18th - 21st. Just before the Jubilee!
@@SirKonrad alright, was there after the jubilee
I remember the red phone boxes being used for nothing but making telephone calls. It was the early `70,s and my mum used to use the phone box just across the road from our house ( we had no phone in the house ) to call my dad - who was serving in Belfast / Northern Ireland at the time.
It was a dark, cold and foggy night and every 3 minutes another 2p ( £0.02 ) would be inserted into the phone box in order for the conversatiin to continue. I was about 10 years old. Suddenly my mum heard the sound of a loud explosion through the phone line - which then went dead.
A bomb had gone off, and I can`t remember how long we had to wait to find out that my dad was still alive. He lives, still.
Wow! That is quite the story!! Thanks for sharing, and so happy to hear your dad survived and still is around to tell the story!
@@SirKonrad You are welcome, kids. My dad was trained in and by The British Army and is still as fit as a fiddle. Far fitter than I am. He was in Northern Ireland only to follow Orders issued.
He`s never offered an opinion either way as to the rights or wrongs of The British being in Ireland. My blood is mixed between English, Irish and Scottish. My dad is a Londoner - and hates London.
Live long and sojourn well. X
Ja, by Wren, famous architect, Beatles have St. Paul`s Cathedral in their songs. And the Canadians are cute, it is nice to see them .
It’s a really special building for sure!
WOW… your video really inspired us to pack up our bags and set up a date to travel to London… so hopefully within weeks we may pay a visit to this beautiful place 🤔😉
Thanks so much guys 🙏 we hope you can come here soon it is a beautiful city 😁🇬🇧
I often show visitors around, looks like you picked the same kind of places I do. Shame the Jubilee prevented you doing some things, but that's for your next trip!
Such is life! We’ll be back for sure sometime and I’m sure I’ll be able to get the full experience
Nice city!
We agree!
The original Trafalgar Square fountains are now in Regina, Saskatchewan, and Ottawa.
That’s cool! I had no idea about that!
British flags are quite a rarity in the country, but they come out in royal events
Unfortunately they were hijacked by some ultra-right-wing groups, and gained a bad reputation.
We are not allowed to fly our flag that makes us racists sadly
@@kaynpaul lmao
@@kaynpaul
The 🇬🇧 flag is flown all over central London - all year around
And there’s no law against flying the flag
Enough of the victim complex 👍
@@kingofracism not in mine in my very sad opinion . I love when I travel each country proudly flys their flag . In the U.K. it is discouraged Incase we offend a non national and the St George’s cross is almost classed as a declaration of war . Just my opinion which we are all entitled to
It's always sad that as soon as anyone posts a video about London you can absolutely guarantee that the anti London brigade will come out in force! Apart from being extremely tedious and boring MOST of what they say is ill-informed, a false impression or downright lies.
Add in that they APPEAR to base their prejudices on tourist area and apply it to the whole metropolitan area which is so ridiculous that it's laughable. There are 32 Boroughs in the Greater London area all of which have nothing in common with each other apart from the London Borough of prefix attached to them. They each have their own identity and culture and should be treated as such. If these people actually bothered to do some research they'd find out that MOST of what they claim really isn't true at all people do interact with strangers in many ways they do have time for you. Having worked in the suburbs for over 25 years my experiences are genuine and based on factual interaction and not a preconceived notion.
It's always amusing that the ones who claim to be "friendlier" fail to see the irony of their assertion when they make their less than friendly comments 🤣.
Hahaha we don’t take it to heart, but yeah I’ve noticed some tension between different parts of England/ the UK it seems 🤣. Same as most countries I think. People outside of the city always hate the city
HATE A LONDONER TALKS ABOUT OTHERS HAVING HATE!!! IN THE MOST HATE FUELED CITY IN EUROPE!! HA!!
Hi Kyle and Lauren. Thanks for replying to my comment on Facebook today! Fake subscribers are not wanted! Anyway, thought I would check out your channel… I like it! You’ve got yourselves a new subscriber. I’m leaving that Facebook group full of spam though 🤣🤣🤣 Jackie
Thanks for checking out our channel and subscribing!!
We’ll look at your videos as well!
Sadly a lot of social platforms are full of spam and bots now. Ruins the experience!
@@SirKonrad yes it does! Glad to have encountered you guys: genuine travel fans. I’ll be watching some more of your 🇨🇦 and 🇬🇧 videos too!
good Content 🇨🇦🇬🇧, greeting from Bandung City Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
Thanks so much! 🙂
Oh dear. The Tower of London is the oldest complete building in London. It's 1000yrs old later this century. For 500yrs, it was home to all the Kings and Queens of England. It's history is amazing, and yet it seems that Tower Bridge grabs the attention of visitors more, I give up.
We would have gone in if we had more time but we will definitely check it out in the future!
Chill out bean sprout
It’s not the Embankment. That’s the other (northern) side of the river and hides a giant sewer.
The London Eye is on the “Southbank” side.
Yeah that was my mistake! I didn’t even actually notice that one 😅
Ahhh.. You barely scratched the surface! LOVE London! Everyone compares it to NYC but I think they're quite different.. Which do your prefer?
We definitely have a lot more exploring to do in London in the future!! They’re definitely different but I think I felt the comparisons because we had been in New York just a few months before London.
Can’t say which I prefer to be honest! New York is more vibrant I think, but London is a city I could call home someday!
Maybe you could visit the North of England some time, love from Liverpool 👍
Sadly this time around we won’t be able to, but it’s on the list for next time!
Trafajgar Square is not near Hyde Park - nearer Green Park
Nice video
Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Greetings from Guatemala.
🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹
Being a new subscriber I would like one video posted a day! 😬🤪😂
Hahaha maybe someday in the near future!! 🤣
HaHa, I kind of agree with the chap above. UA-camrs never rest! 😂
Haha of course you would 😉
Awe, you missed Borough Market.
We did! We missed many places actually but there’s definitely going to be other opportunities in the future!
You had 70 years to choose when to visit and picked the platinum jubilee week
Wasn’t exactly by choice as we came back for a family event, but yes it seems we came at a busier time for sure!
Hopefully he's been to Greggs 😋
Yes he likes it!! 😂😄
Taking you to a cemetery? Was she carrying a spade?
I was actually in London 4 years ago when Big Ben chimed for the last time before the refurbishment work began
We got lucky being there so soon after all the scaffolding came off I guess!
@@SirKonrad I didn't actually realise it was happening, as I was visiting some friends in Essex. At the tube stop before Westminster I heard someone mention it so jumped off and got there about 2 minutes before.
just a small nit-pick its the elizabeth tower, big ben is the large bell inside it.
Thanks for the information! I guess we all just think of it as Big Ben!
Yep, it's surprising how many British people, Londoners in particular, appear to be unaware of this 🤔
@@craigireland5629 We know but just use the name that everyone will recognise. It saves having to go into an explanation. Why they renamed it Elizabeth Tower and not Big Ben Tower I will never understand.
@@grahamsmith9541 fair point 👍
That was nothing like a 'traditional' crumble....
It was delicious 😋
Big Ben!
Benjamin!!
It’s the Elizabeth Tower, used to be St Stephens tower, Big Ben is the bell inside the tower … you cannot see it
@@keithrudd8003 I was corrected on that before actually! Good information to know because as far as I know everyone seems to recognize the whole thing as Big Ben! We’ve been lied to 🤣
@@keithrudd8003 It used to be Clock Tower. St.Stephen's Tower is still St. Stephen's Tower. It is part of the West front of the Palace between Westminster Hall and Old Palace Yard. It has the public entrance to the house of Parliament in it.
Cor blimey Gov Brilliant Vid innit, shame the old baked beans jubilee had closed everything. I wouldn't have a scooby doo where to head for up the West end 😂
😂😂 glad you liked it!!
I enjoyed your video, but feel the need to mention that "Big Ben" is a bell. You cannot see "Big Ben" from the street. What you were looking at was "The Elizabeth Tower". Cheers
Thank you! Yeah we’ve had a few people mention that since haha. Seems strange that most people only know the whole tower as Big Ben!
@@SirKonrad Thank you for the reply. I had a feeling I might not be the first. I did enjoy your video. I'm from Prince Edward Island. Kyle might get a kick out of that.
Fellow Canadian! I'm from Vancouver and haven't been that far east yet. Hopefully someday when I'm back in Canada!
@@SirKonrad Used to live in Whiterock.
i need one person to help me come to London please
Korean Corn Dogs… hmmm 🤔
Don’t knock it til you try it! They weren’t bad!
Avoid the cities concentrate on wales Scotland and the north of England the lake district but the gower in wales the best beaches 100%
I wish we could have gone all these places but for this trip it’s been limited. We did explore the southwest of England though and loved the beaches, and we did visit Edinburg (another city I know) and loved it. Really wish we could have gone into the Highlands though!
Thanks for watching!!
@@SirKonrad looked like you enjoyed your visit to the uk hope next time you take the time and fully see all x
Why is this called Canadians first impressions of London when you are British Lauren lol
I'm form the county of Kent-when will you do a vlog there, I'm right between Dartford/Bexleyheath!
So in the parts where famous people grew up like: Mick Jagger/Keith Richards-Rolling Stones, Kate Bush, Roger Moore, Roald Dahl, etc
Few of my fav attractions in Kent is Leeds Castle, Chistlehurst Caves, The Hop Farm, Home of Charles Darwin - Down House.....etc
Thanks for the recommendations! I’m from the U.K but Kyle is from Canada and I am currently showing him around my home hence the name of this video ! We are only here for another month and currently staying with family in the south west of England but if we get more time here we would like to explore more of England even the areas I (lauren) haven’t been to! We will be posting a few more videos from my local area soon!
@@SirKonrad No probs at all for the recommendations Lauren, it only confused me as the title was Canadians first impressions of London-should of been Kyle his first time in London and beyond 😁
Ah so staying in the south west of England. So around the Bristol, Cornwall Dorset, Devon, Gloucestershire, Somerset.....etc
Exactly, always nice for us Brits to go to other parts of England we have seen in pics/ onTV etc but never been to yet!
Look forward to your next videos, you been watching any of Glastonbury since you been back in UK??
Oh and belated birthday to you 🎂🥂
Haha I guess so! Yes we are staying in North Devon and Somerset with my family and it’s beautiful here! Also been down to Cornwall and South Devon for the weekend which is also gorgeous. We watched it last night actually!! Thanks again Mike P!!
@@SirKonrad It is indeed beautiful in that part of the country, Devon was only on Homes Under the Hammer couple of months ago showing: Torquay/Dartmouth!
My gf and I, we were in Somerset couple pf months ago and stayed in Glastonbury then to Wells then Frome, Wookey Hole to the Caves + other attractions then went to Bristol 😁
I have been to Glastonbury Festival 4 times over the years, but we enjoyed watching it on the TV last night!
Just call me Mike, don't worry abou the P lol
London is great but is isnt just zone 1. London covers 9 zones
Yes! Unfortunately we only had 2 full days to explore the city and Kyle had never been to London before so he wanted to see all the famous tourist spots! We will be back soon for sure!
"The Tower of London is smaller than I expected" ?? ----- Dude you ain't been inside!!
Fair point! Will definitely go in next time
Big Ben is the BELL not the tower that houses it, London is tourist central so to see our country at it best you need to get out of London & explore
If you read the comments you’d see we’ve been corrected many times 😅. Also we spent 3 days in London and the last month in a totally different area. Still exploring other areas just haven’t uploaded the videos yet.
Thanks for watching!
@@SirKonrad I did scan quickly but there are so many, it's small detail but so many get this wrong & it's annoying, glad you enjoyed the site seeing & looked further afield 👍
Welcome to the motherland 🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿🇬🇧
All these comments about London! Please don’t just think the U.K. is London
The U.K. is four countries with different cultures come and see us all! Plus we are all a lot nicer outside London we have more time to stop and chat even have a brew 👍
I grew up in the North and now live in London. People aren't really that different. The north has nosy people, and vibrant people and shy people and stand-offish, friendly people, kind people, mean people, selfish people... people just as London does. People who announce themselves to be nicer than city folk (not a very nice thing to say) only live in the countryside tho, and what they lack for self awareness they make up for in Tory votes. Oh... wait
Thank you!!
We’ve been in the the UK (only England so far) for the past month and were only in London for a few days. We’ll be going up to Scotland for a short trip as well! Looking forward to seeing more of what the UK has to offer as a whole!
We have the same thing in Canada with everyone commenting the same way about Toronto haha. It’s always the biggest cities that people seem to hate the most
@@sleepcrime mate I’ve lived in London for 15 years moved back north myself, I’m a city lad always have been I currently live in manchester centre, born here too!
The was just saying that the U.K. is bigger and come see us all, I was meaning we are nicer else where as we’ve more time to stop and chat. London is very busy over 10 million. People don’t seem to have as much time on their hands this was all I was meaning!
Really did you need to bring politics into it? Why and for what purpose man?
I’m a city lad late 30s and a conservative! I don’t live In the country so you are stereo typing
It is also facts and surveys have been done those outside London are friendlier than those who live in the city with stressful jobs.
The people from the suburbs are friendly, I lived in Croydon when I was In London I loved it but hated the centre seemed to me they don’t have any time for you! Maybe that’s because I’m a northern 😂😂😂
@@SirKonrad you will have a fantastic time my fave place in Scotland is Inverness beautiful city, you may catch a glimpse of the nessy 😂
Any way enjoy your time here guys.
If you guys get the chance Northern Ireland is beautiful too.
Please don’t think I hate London she’s a beautiful city plenty of history! I wasn’t hating on the capital
Humble Crumble....Custard & Marsh Mellows 🤢🤢 nothing like a proper crumble, how long you been away!
It was amazing it tasted really good and the marshmallows were a nice touch!
More bubble gum music Noooooo. Otherwise real good
Thanks for watching!!
By the way they’re call ‘buygels’ not ‘baygels’ which is an Americanism
This one seems to be a topic of debate even for us in North America because my friends hate how I pronounce it 🤣
@@SirKonrad it’s a Jewish American thing - in the old country they called them beigels not baygels
Lovely that you got to visit London......perhaps next time you'd like to visit England.......🤷♂️
The video is specifically about my first impressions of London. We’ve been in England for over a month now. Stay tuned for that before being negative 🤷🏻♂️
Yes all red phone boxes smell of pee / they always did and always will
Sorry, but you DIDN'T see BIG BEN !! BIG BEN is the BELL inside the Elizabeth Tower !
Honestly, check the comments. We get it
The thames doesn’t look clean at all
The Thames has always been a dirty river 🤣
It is a lot cleaner than it used to be. In 1957 it was declared biologically Dead. There are now 125 species of fish in the tidal Thames. Between Teddington Lock in West London and the sea. Seals have been known to come upstream as far as Teddington.
@@grahamsmith9541 And whales! It is, or at least was fairly recently, the cleanest big city river in Europe.
@@peterc.1618 yes. Mustn’t forget the whales! TWO of them! There are those that do not seem to understand that the river is tidal, has a very very strong current and all the mud and silt gets carried along from the Thames Estuary - THAT’S why it looks “dirty”! Wish people would leave the River alone! 😩
One of the cleanest rivers that flows the a major city, cleaner now than it has been for about 150 years.
This girl is wasted on you my G. You got the grand tour around London from a beautiful girl and your brain thinks ‘it’s allergy season’ moan moan,
🤣 🤙🏼
Is that a salad? Man says ; when you in Europe want good to eat, go to France. When you want to enjoy good manners, go to England,
Why does the bloke keep comparing London to New York? Does London claim to be like New York? And that thing called apple crumble was nothing like a proper apple crumble.
Wasn’t intentionally comparing at all, we just went to New York 6 months ago and was referencing that trip.
Thanks for watching nonetheless!
The architecture in London is nothing compared to the North 🤣👍👍
Where about in the north?
Not bad video but it didn't show anything new, and with the corny music was really quite boring.
take off your masks.....
The irony of someone not liking being told what to do…. And then telling someone what to do
