ATTENTION: This method only works with NVidia cards. I was unaware that AMD GPU users could not run Classic Rebirth correctly prior to making this video. I will make a video for AMD users in the future. I do not have an AMD card, so I do not presently have a fix. Sorry.

Would you be willing to do this when 2 and 3 come out? Now if we can get the Director's Cut (non dual shock) content restored in tandem with the extreme battle mode from the dreamcast version Perfection.
0:23 - Suzi who tested these releases has said that RE2 is already done. Whilst RE3 is still in development. So we'll be seeing RE2 very soon.

EDIT: try looking into dgvoodoo2 ive had some help with that got rid of most of the artifacting but there's a weird line going down the screen now

People are complaining bout this release. Im not sure why though, its about presevation. As a 1:1 representation of the original release, i think its ok. Im just happy that there is now a way to buy the original trilogy.
afaik the only thing they need to do is bring out the Director's Cut of RE1. I hope they retroactively release this later.

Yes I know RE1:DC is available on the PS Store. If they could do RE2 and RE3 on the PS Store then ageing original fans would buy them
@CursedWheelieBin hell these games can literally run on anything, so maybe find a old computer laying around? Idk maybe they will come to console, but honestly I doubt it.
only modders could bring it to the pc version. otherwise just emulate PS1.

These types of technical tutorials are incredibly difficult for a lot of people to pull off correctly yet this one was perfect and even tried to teach the concept that there are multiple ways to accomplish the same thing. Bravo, sir!

(Problem Solved): If your controller isn’t working despite showing up in REbirth configuration menu, all you have to do is disable Steam Overlay, and/or add an exception in Windows Defender for REbirth. 6:39

was Steam Overlay intercepting all of your xinput inputs and not passing them to other programs? That's odd.
@@CarcinogenSDAYeah it was weird, it even opened big screen mode. I still had to put an exception in windows defender.
Windows defender exception worked for me as well. Didn't have to change anything with Steam.

Very happy that thanks to this launch, GOG has managed to burst its niche bubble and be known by a large number of people. The work they do with the preservation of classic titles and the DRM free policy are things that deserve recognition from the vast majority of gamers. It's simply the most pro-consumer digital game store out there!

installing the REbirth mod completely messes up the graphics in the game. When the characters move around they leave a trail behind them and all the background textures are messed up. Im on Windows 11, anyone know if theres a fix?
What is your graphics card, because if I remember correctly the classic rebirth team had a problem with AMD cards. But if it is not that then I'm not sure what it is. I am in the same position as you are.

@@CarcinogenSDA not an OP, but I also have similar issues. I'm on some Lenovo laptop using integrated Intel graphic card. I remember playing this rebirth mod on another laptop that had some other integrated GPU (probably also an Intel one) and I don't remember having this issue.
OOOhhh I figured it out, thanks for the replies! I have a NVIDIA graphics card but a AMD motherboard integrated graphics. I had my monitor plugged into the motherboard, not the graphics card (Duh)! I feel dumb but leaving this comment here incase someone else has the same issue as me. I just switched the monitor cable to the graphics card ports and it worked

it will, GOG just runs a wrapper, it's all the same files. their wrapper is the same as classic REbirth, just not good enough.

this worked for me, but made the graphics weird. it makes black bars around the words on the title screen and little funny lines arounds the characters or whatevers moving. Anyone know how to fix this issue.?

Great video Carci! I had one remaining question: in the PC version, Jill's game is dumbed down until you beat her game once (enemies have less health, you don't need ink ribbons to save, to name a couple). Is there any mod that restores her game's difficulty to normal on a first playthrough?
No? PC version is original Japanese difficulty, and the PC version has always had infinite saves, what are you talking about?
@@CarcinogenSDA Only Jill has infinite saves on PC on the first playthrough. Chris always requires ink ribbons. For Jill, when playing her for the first time on the PC version, the game does not require ink ribbons and the game is overall easier. Once you finish the game with her once, then her game requires ink ribbons and gets harder, which seems to match Normal on the PlayStation version of the game. I was just wondering if there was any way to skip the initial easy-ness of Jill's first playthrough, since on PlayStation Jill always needs ink ribbons.
Hmm... great guide, but mine still doesn't work. After the config window, I get an error "Failed to initialize the DirectX." when it tries to load Resident Evil. Does anyone else get this/know the solution?
Any idea why i get some sort of "tearing" from the polygonal objects like the characters in RE1 Rebirth? Search everywhere, found nothing.
Try switching the Texture Smoothing option in the launcher.

I have the sourcenext versions of RE2/3 - I assume those are still the best, right? I'm kind of torn - want to support the old gameplay style, but it's a hard pill to swallow if they're not good ports.
they're all the same port, just runnable via GOG's wrapper. difference is, you can legally buy them and mod them.
how install language mods ? I move "mod_fr_V1.3.1.7z" to the main file Resident Evil but nothing change

Hey! I tried this tutorial a couple weeks ago and it worked perfectly - but upon GOG releasing its own updates, it doesn't seem to work anymore, is it because I'm not supposed to update and I should just try the tutorial again replacing the files?

They do, I'm getting $15 for the pack
If people don't want this game on their desktop or want to navigate to the folder its in you can do the following.
Manage Installation > Configure > Features > Add another executable / arguments > add the new .exe file > make it the default executable.
You can now launch it via GoG like normal

I heard 2 and 3 are not going to be the SourceNext versions, which is unfortunate.
I don't believe that's accurate. When you select different languages, it pulls a different build of the game. People who have early access may have only used the English build, which is the US ISO. They may have ripped either the Japanese Sourcenext or Mediakite versions and you may be able to access them if you select Japanese language in GOG Galaxy. We just need to wait and see.
@@CarcinogenSDA true enough. I am hoping others get to play modded RE. I am fortunate enough to own the physical copies of SourceNext 2/3 and Mediakite 1.
I hope Capcom releases the trilogy on PS5 and they have all the backgrounds, FMVs, and sounds upscaled. Plus, they have the original uncut.

I did everything in the video but after the intro video it just crashes. My laptop crashes whilst trying to play the contagion mod also. I really don’t understand why.. I’m a complete noob at this stuff
Excellent guide. Quick rundown of why things are the way they are, what files are needed, and clear communication on how to install those files.
As much a good job that GoG has done, some decisions to use the PC sources over the PS version are a bit weird - lower quality fmvs, for example.
I hope that RE2 & 3 will be compatible with existing mods, or at least have existing mods be easily adapted for them, since at least RE2 is confirmed to be based on the PC version of the game in an interview from Suzi with GoG (again, with lower quality fmvs).

Got a weird effect once in game. Some sort of strange bars following the character movements and when a screen is loaded as well. I dont know what is causing this

Im surprised that GOG didnt change any of the files to avoid modding so fast, but i guess if a game goes on GOG the devs arent really worried about security anymore seeing as DRM is non existent in games there
