@@kentdavies1988 There are host more mods coming down the line. For this first round, we wanted to get the new engine, transmission and suspension done, baseline it from there, and then move forward with other modifications once we identify more areas where the performance can be improved.

You do understand that you don't have to do everything at once right? Take from this build what you will. If you like the suspension upgrades, do those. The transmission, do that. No one is saying you have to do everything. This is a guide book - not a must do.

I’ve been rebuilding a 73 challenger under my car port for the past two years that was supposedly already “restored” so i fully understand the struggles. But if US radiator wants to sponsor me i’ll gladly make a video lol. Also getting mike involved is a huge plus, guy is a great presenter and personally a huge fan.

I have a thirds gen and I think like 700whp or more for my street car. Under 400hp means there are Kia's and a whole bunch of other stuff thats going to gap you on the street. This car deserves at least 500 to the wheels. Aslo a set of subframe connectors are cheap, easy to install and really help
Loving this series! It sure brings back memories. I drove a blue '85 non-IROC with a 305/700R4 from 1992-2002. I put 100k on it, drove it year around in Chicago for those ten years. The original owner factory ordered the build, had heavy duty cooling, suspension (F41), front and rear discs, LSD rear end, power everything, map lights, weird manual trip meter/calendar in the overhead console. But looked plain Jane on the outside. One hell of a car.

I did on my camaro. I used factory 4bbl air cleaner housing and turned the snorkel strait forward and hooked it up to factory TPI intake with hawks ram air boxes and it works awesome!
I’m loving what you are doing except for not keeping some kind of TPI setup. Like a a weiand stealth ram and then run the Holley computer. Think it would have looked way more on point
I had a red and black 87 Iroc back in 1995. Bought it for $2600. It was so much fun! When it developed a rod knock I sold it to my neighbor and he absolutely ruined it with purple glitter paint, 13 inch gold rims that stuck way out and a velvet interior. I get the lowrider phase was hot back then but I regretted selling it to him after I saw what he did to it. Still pisses me off to this day when I think about it lol.

More info on the engine-swap, wiring and more how-to and going further into detail on this build For instance, I'd want to swap out the T5 in my 87 305tpi Iroc if (and when) the t5 says byebye, to a tkx from American Powertrain. I want to know how the installation and if there were any issues with it before going in. I've never swapped am engine, nor a transmission. Just basic maintainance and "playing" with new and improved parts. I'd love to see something that'd make it more of a learning-experience is what I'm saying. Otherwise, I think people are having a ball. Thanks.

This is great. My 89 IROC is completely gutted. I pulled the computer and associated harness as it's useless at this point. Pulled the drivers side harness to delete unwanted connections. 406 going in dynoed at 500hp and 550tq using the same Edelbrock fuel injection but larger Edelbrock injectors. Ford 9 inch and weight jacks adjustable suspension. Big brake LS1 upgrade for safety. Money pit! Lol.

Well how is your car doing now a year later I was kind of curious because I have two thirds and I have a 92 Heritage and an 87 Firebird t-top the firebird just inherited a 383 stroker the 92 I'll probably keep it original it only has 25,000 Mi on it Firebird I'm just using it as a cruiser maybe take it to car shows it's putting out 450 horse and 483 ft lb of torque I'm just thinking if I don't dump the clutch and get all stupid with it it should be fine now they're 92 Heritage it's a hardtop well what's your opinion
At 8:01 the front strut is being bolted onto the strut bearing. Please tell me this was just a set up shot, and that the bearing was cleaned up before final installation. That thing has quite a bit of surface rust and would be a shame to bolt it in looking like that.

I depends on the buyer - a tastefully modded vehicle is great, but that's IF and only IF if it's done correctly and it the performance and drivability are truly enhanced.
Agreed. These aren't Ferraris where any sort of modification is considered to be a sacrilege - Chevrolet built hundreds of thousands of these cars, and inexpensive modifications were part of the appeal to these vehicles. There are unmolested original examples out there for those who want these, and modifying one of thousands of these cars isn't going to bring about Carmageddon. Aside from motivating these vehicles, these smog-choked remnants of the malaise era are not particularly loved among enthusiasts. Upgrading the engine to a more potent version isn't going to scare off buyers who know what they're getting.
I am curious to know what spring rates you went with on front and rear? I was also wondering what ride height you were looking for, both front and rear? The car is an '85 TPI IROC Z with upgraded front and rear suspension. The car is currently being used for track days, autocross and car shows. Spohn Control Arms, QA1 single adjustable shocks, QA1 Caster Camber plates, and a 1LE 36mm front sway bar on the front. On the rear, SW Race Cars adjustable torque arm, adjustable panhard bar, panhard bar brace, Spohn adjustable lower control arms, and a 25mm rear sway bar. This car has been in the family since 1985 as my parents purchased it for me when I was 21. Thanks in advance!
I might also add that it's illegal to disable any emissions component on any vehicle intended to be operated on public roads. That's been federal law since 1975. Let's not be the Diesel Brothers, who were caught by the EPA doing illegal rolling coal conversions and fined $850k (feel free to look it up). Actually they weren't exactly caught so much as they made the mistake of boasting about breaking the law on UA-cam and social media. Thanks for keeping this video series street legal.

That's been federal illegal since the 1970 Clean Air Act. I like the idea that they're keeping this a road legal car and not trying to be some black poison spewing outlaw vehicle. The Diesel brothers thought they were getting away with that too, until they made the mistake of boasting about it and getting hit with a $850k fine.

For the money you spent an LS3 swap might have been a better choice. The injection was changed so the TPI purist will complain anyway. Edelbrock make great products but they are waaay pricey.
The beauty of doing an engine replacement is that there are a ton of options, from a ton of companies based around individual budgets. They key is to do your research and then come up with the best option for you!
This is a malaise era small block getting replaced, and it's badly knocking at that. For the money it would cost them to fix the rod-knock and rebuild it back to factory specs, it's still going to be just a 245 hp 350. Hardly a solid value. That replacement 350 is going to deliver a lot more power and torque for the same money. That original 350, besides being well worn and tired, is not particularly unique or loved among enthusiasts. It's best showing was around 250 hp in the C4 Corvette. Hardly a powerplant that any real enthusiast is going to mourn.

@@nathanieljones7981 Mine was an '85 base model, not a Z or Iroc. Base models came with rear drums unless optioned with 4 wheel discs.

Edelbrock 3860 or 3861 if you can find one. Sure lets the air flow versus stock!

Do you have any links to the parts used? Specifically the brake upgrade?
The brakes were off the shelf components you can get from any Napa, O'Reilly's, etc..
Needs subframe connectors or else it's gonna look like a pretzel
Could have easily swapped to 1LE front brakes for very little money over the smaller setup.
They're a bit larger, but we'll do a substantial brake upgrade when the time comes.

No question, the TPI looks great, but unfortunately, it's difficult to upgrade and keep it.
