What do people think of the recently announced 2020 Audi RS6, I obviously can't wait to get my hands on one early next year 😉 Please remember to give this video a thumbs up if you liked it 👍
If you have 80k and want fast wagon with diesel engine, just go for the Alpina D5 Touring - real exhausts, more powerfull engine, better gearbox, Alpina enterior without glossy fingerprint magnets everywhere. Thanks for the honest review, Joe. Great job.
“Bring back the buttons!” If you were touching your phones touchscreen, the police would, rightly, be on your back. Where’s the difference with that and using a touchscreen, looking for an icon or hanging the Sat Nav? I’ve ever had a problem with physical buttons, you learn where they are in a week and they’re much less distracting. Tech for techs sake.
I have one and it’s just brilliant! Have been considering an RS6 and I just can’t justify the change. More than enough power, looks subtle, 32mpg and drives fantastic, why would you change??
I'm currently driving a 5 series (G31) and I have some issues with the engine-transmission-combination in this S6 as well as with the infotainment-system. An engine this big and powerful should use it's torque more, I agree on that. Driving it feels kinda weird. Though it IS quite powerful. And since I'm on the phone a lot when I'm driving, I can't really use the voice commands. In my opinion, BMW nailed it with the iDrive-system. Not sure if I can get used to Audi's new MMI. Sadly they won't give me an A/S6 for a week or so to get used to it.. Since you own two BMW's: Would you switch from a BMW to this S6? Could you deal with the engine / transmission and the MMI on a daily basis?
Been an Audi driver for some years - A4, A6, S5, RS5 - but was looking at more space from the RS5 Coupe and looked this/S7....until a friend bought an M5; the difference in interior quality and fit was quite a surprise; the S6 has far too much hard, cheap plastic and the screen-based controls are a pain (never mind very distracting). The M5 felt like a well finished 75,000 car, the Audi’s like a 45,000 car with options tacked on. M5 sitting on the drive.
I struggle with the MMI on the new A1 every day. Touch screen only is really limiting. But they still have a little volume knob on the centre console behind the gearstick... I thought it was a little navigation controller at first and nearly deafened myself! So I agree, bring back the buttons! Great review, really enjoying watching your success on here. Onwards and upwards mate!
Actually, you don't need the Vorsprung edition to get air suspension - you can choose the base model and add the 'dynamic pack' (£4510) which includes air suspension, sports differential and four wheel steering.. Great car, and great review.
@@GARRYEASTON oh right… sorry for responding so late, but I don’t believe you. You have to drive this car for at least a week and 1k miles to actually grasp how good it is. No car today is worth their sticker price.
50/50 on the exhaust trims, s models have quad, RS have oval. Hard to change such an iconic representation of the class and, I assume, there is good technical reason for this (would be good to find out rather than presenters just object). Most diesels now push the fumes down to the floor. I had an S5 and it was impossible to clean the tips satisfactorily, it looked awful after a while. Considering the price of new cars today, 80k is not horrendous for the Vorsprung IMO
The fake exhausts annoy me because it can't be that hard to route the exhaust pipes through those holes! 🙄 I wonder if there's some pointless EU law about aiming diesel fumes down at the road... I would definitely take this S6 for my motorway cruises 👍 nice one Joe.
Dan Miller At some point in the E9x generation, the exhaust in the diesels started to point straight out. I had a 2008 318d and it pointed straight out.
If it performs as good as it looks then I think they have created a winner. Interested to see the price tag it lands at. I had the last gen from new (64 plate) until last year and it was just shy of £90k. In real terms my income hasn't really increased that much, so it may be well beyond my reach, which is a real shame as I loved my RS6
Don't know about the situation in the UK, but in Germany, Audi offers amazing finance-deals on the new A/S6. I configured one at 91.000€ and they offered me a lease for 590€ per month for 3 years. BMW offered me a lease of 780€ per month for a 540d that cost 87.000€.. No down payment, 25.000km annual mileage. So don't be afraid of a higher price tag.
The fake exhaust is shocking. It is a deal breaker for me. I was honestly looking forward to the new S6, even in diesel guise (that wasn't putting me off), I looked at PCP options, did my research but only after seeing the fake exhaust has it put me off completely. I can not bear to look down at the pipes and see a plastic cover. How could Audi think this was a good idea? If they don't like the diesel smog messing up the rear bumper, they could have put a plastic fascia bit (like the BMW 335d's used to have). I don't think I'll be buying the S6 any more.
Audi are lucky that BMW don’t sell the M550d here in the UK - also 4wd, also available as an estate, 50hp more, likely better gearbox software, real zorsts and rotary air con controls 👊
Joe, brilliant review and especially valuable because it's after living with the car for 9 days across all the different situations that you would normally use a car. Like you, I cannot understand why Audi would do such blatantly fake exhausts, and also mourn the loss of the MMI control knob that made Audi's infotainment systems so convenient to use. Your point about average fuel consumption against usable performance is actually worth highlighting. I have a really heavy right foot and our little stable consists of 3 cars with petrol sixes and yes fuel is something we go through very fast in this household. The interesting balance of usable performance versus fuel consumed that this new S6 delivers would be a compelling reason for me to switch away from petrol - as long as I still have 6 cylinders - LOL!
Not sure I'd pay £80k for something with a 350bhp diesel engine and comedy exhausts. The removal of physical buttons is just another step towards fully self driving cars. In 2 or 3 years voice control will totally replace touch sensitive buttons. By incrementally removing legacy functions each year it won't be such a shock to us customers when the first car without a steering wheel, pedals and physical buttons is available to buy.
Great review. I've a launch spec A6 Avant S-Line 50 TDI which has almost every box ticked. It cost new £72,500, but I bought it at 5 months old as an ex-demo for under £46,000. These cars only make proper sense in the nearly new car market. I love the air suspension and 4 wheel steering. The ride quality is fabulous and it's a joy to drive and I'd highly recommend both options. The ride quality is so much more impressive than my previous Volvo V90 D5 Inscription Pro and the performance is in another league. I'd highly recommend one.
Great vid as always Joe. Not a fan of these glossy all-touchscreen interiors. Beginning to look like a console from the USS Enterprise - definitely prefer something a little more analogue in my car.
Good review. Interesting what you think about the ZF compared to 530d. I love my 530d but find it a bit frustrating in 8th gear which is so long, presumably for economy and refinement, that every time I accelerate it wants to change down a gear and is sometime a little laboured before doing so. Minor niggle but interested you feel it’s better than the S6.
It’s a shame that the UK packaging isn’t the greatest... in Germany you can spec the Air Suspension on all cars at a certain cost.. no limits in the config
Honestly feel like Audi fucked up with this one. Should of stuck the 4.0l engine from the panamera gt, albeit a 'detuned' version or something with a hybrid system. Then they could charge say 60k basic price no options with 80k being fully loaded. Or, somein' similar imho.
Really appreciate your honesty Joe in all your video's,great vlog & review mate 👍🏻 for me the S6 & RS6 Have always been great cars, I also love the RS4 (Favourite) but with that air suspension & steering I think £80k could be a good price, it's steep but I wouldn't be disappointed in paying that for it (if I had it lol) 😉
Great vid Joe. I am beginning to think that designers at the big German manufacturers are sitting down in the same bars and chatting together and influencing each other. "Look at Tesla, everyone is talking about them and they have just a screen, that's what customers want and look how clean the back is without those sooty exhausts, our customers would like that too, but let's put on pretend exhausts so that people behind can't tell and it saves us manufacturing cost, high five!" I'm sure that the screen thinking is leading to "you can tell the car to cool down, aren't we clever," but at the moment it's just dangerous. I'm hoping the fake exhaust idea will go away. It certainly will when we are all driving electric or hydrogen.
Really looking forward to your review of the new C8 RS6 Joe, I am interested to know what the cars wet weight on the road is, we all know they are heavy and you remind us that this diesel is already a 2 ton vehicle. Given the C8 RS6 now has rear wheel steer and mild hybrid tech. Audi have done their best to hide that penalty with an extra 100 Nm torque taking it to 800 NM..but my fear is the car probably just become a lot more technical , as a result less driver engaged than the C7, which is already to technical. My C7 model has everything switched off.... Which makes me very apprehensive to trade my C7 for the C8 version. I suspect you can't turn things off in the C8 which will only increase the disconnect. being a beast which goes fast in a straight line is only one aspect of driving....Looking forward to your thoughts......!!. PS. You won't get me in any diesel ever...they have here place but not for drivers like me.
I think you could spec the normal Audi A6 for the Vosprung with all the options you want and you will be very shy in power from the fully spec S6, but you will be saving nearly £8000-9000. Also the previous generation Audi AC C7 competition BiTDI V6 is as powerful as this one and you can get it now around £35,000. ua-cam.com/video/yk4dM4B-Pxc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Automann-TV
Hi joe, You do love this Audi and to be fair so do I it’s just a stunning car inside and out. I also love the new and stunning RS6 but the problem is it now stands out from the crowd and no longer a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I hope you manage to get one from Audi in the not so distant future. I simply can’t ever see you moving away from BMW but then again I see why they are fantastic cars. Well Joe as ever a great video. Best wishes Alan B 👍👍👌👌
Comfort, what is it. Why not compare your BMW 7-series or this Audi S6 with a 30 year old Citroën CX Prestige Turbo II to look which one has then best comfort on "your" test road.
PS; If you do so, you have to learn to drive a CX. Be smooth and relaxed, and the way you brakes. Remembing back in those days, I could drive those cars faster than others around bends. But you have to relax to do that in a CX.
I suspect the target market for this is 55+, middle class, zipping over to the weekend cottage, in other words: not me. doesn't set my heart racing, and can think of at least 5 other things i'd rather spend 80k on. check back in 20 yrs I might be ready. 😫
Great review. I’ve had the previous two S6 Avants, the 5lt V10 & now the 4lt V8, loved them both. I think they’re all the car you need practical & quick especially the last one (60 in 4.5!) but diesel is in my opinion is a backwards step. Even with spirited driving the C7 version still returns 25-28 mpg and its great the diesel does 35-40 & has massive range (mine does 400 on a tank) but I’d be really bothered if it didn’t feel as quick certainly no lag in my S6. Also those fake exhausts are close to a deal breaker for me. Hopefully a test drive will convince me on both counts. How far away are we Joe from fast wagons having petrol with electric assistance to get lightning performance & the economy too?
Manufacturer's trying to outdo each other with in car tech. Firstly controls need to be practical, obvious and easy to use. Joe makes the most important point that the driver needs to be looking through the windscreen and down the road not distracted delving into incar computer screens. Soon need a co pilot!! Nearly 80K and fake exhausts👎👎
henri brad because people who wanted the v8 brought the RS6 ( the old one now ) so don’t think the S6 made sense. You don’t see too many on the road, well I don’t anyway.
Although I thing this is a very good composed package and fantastic all-around car it is not worth of cca.15k euros price differential to the normal 50TDI. And the most important, this is not worth of "S6" badge. Fake exhaust tips in "sport" car is unforgivable. In my honest opinion, this would be a way better car if it has that 4.0 V8 TDI from SQ7/8 even if they decrease the power to maybe 400bhp/800Nm with a real exhaust tips... Now that would be the proper diesel "S6".
What a great car, if I could wish for something it would be bigger wheels with lower profile tyres. These seem to be too small and too bulbous. I hope Audi listens and brings a bigger set with the next facelift. Ah BTW Joe, you should not stop talking about RRP. That's exactly what they want you to do, focus on monthlies and pretend like this isn't a rip off. The creative accounting on these "deals" is freaking amazing, I can't wait for this to pop finally.
What do people think of the recently announced 2020 Audi RS6, I obviously can't wait to get my hands on one early next year 😉 Please remember to give this video a thumbs up if you liked it 👍
Looks really nice apart from that rear silver trim which i guess you can option out with the black pack. Looking forward to the 3 way drag races

The E63s still has buttons for controlling everything so it is my preference by a mile

Great review Joe! I appreciate the honest feedback and the perspective on the usability of the new tech.
Fake exhausts.. Unforgivable👎
Sean Warren its just mental, I’d rather have no exhausts
Fake exhausts are the industries way of saying the public are stupid! We should all refuse to buy any car with fake exhausts.

Discounted M5 money🙄
Or better yet E63 Estate if you still need the boot space
"It really is...."
Not a chance! 50k-60k
Why even bother getting the S6 over the A6. I suspect this car won't sell much, except to clueless, just above middle class old men.
Yep
Never
only if it's a V8
It's not an 80k car
No definitely not
80k for a Audi estate I'm out
Stop talking about fuel, people who spend +80k on a car don’t care about fuel prices or how much the car drinks it.
logtec 11 people who buy a diesel tend to care about fuel. It’s certainly worth highlighting.
Logtec - you should start making videos, you clearly know what people want to hear!
It's useless and so overrated
