- People love Jiraiya for being a cool character and hate Hiruzen for not having adopted Naruto and giving him a better childhood. But these are insane double standards. Jiraiya disappeared for the first 12 years of Naruto's childhood and Naruto didn't even know who he was. Even though he was Naruto's Godson, and Minato asked him Jiraiya if he could name Naruto after one of his book characters.
Hiruzen on the other hand, took the Leaf Village back over after Minato died during the 9 Tails attack and he had to handle a terrible geopolitical situation. In the meantime, he provided Naruto with the best chilhood a Jinchuriki could have.

The whole naruto being so alone is a plothole on itself. Minato and Kushina didn't have a single friend that helped their son while growing up, even his own student and master didn't gave a flyer fuck about the boy for the first 12 years of his life
It's not a plot whole in the manga it was explained very early that jiraiya knew narutos father same for teaching him anime took longer

Naruto being minatos child was also one of the reasons Kakashi took him in and Kakashi after losing one his last loved ones I doubt was in a position to raise baby naruto

So you're telling me that both of them did have friends, but none of the friends figured it out? Pretty sure the whole village knew the Jinchuriki was Kushina Uzumaki and that she was married to the 4th Hokage. Then one day both of them pass away and there's a blonde newborn with the last name Uzumaki that just happens to be the new Jinchuriki. I feel like they'd have to be super in denial or dumb to not connect the dots.
It is kind of a plot hole. Minato and Jiraiya were super close. So close in fact, that Minato told Jiraiya he was going to name his son after the character in Jiraiyas book. So yeah I don't know, I feel like it's more of a retcon than a plot hole but it is strange that Jiraiya wasn't more concerned about his student and students wife passing.
Yeah. You could argue for Mikoto's defense that maybe the elders and Danzo had something to do with why the most likely person to be Naruto's godmother didn't raise him, given we have that scene of her going to see baby Naruto at the hospital.
Everyone likely saw the big sharingan sign in the eyes of Kyubi, so, pretty sure the elders and Danzo were agaisnt the idea that Naruto would grow up in the middle of the Uchiha clan, especially if you decide to think that Fugaku may have indeed had a mangekyo sharingan. It would have made him the prime suspect in their eyes as to who sent the fox on the village, so it make sense for her. (plus, if everyone in the village knew of her close relationship with Kushina, it would again, sell the fact that Naruto is Minato's son pretty quickly)
Kakashi, like defended in this video, was quite young when this happened... and not really in the best mental headspace, if you want my opinion. But, for a while, he was NOT the one that should have stepped up. Maybe as some kind of "older brother" figure, maybe, but not a parental one.
I kinda like the idea however that Toyeshi (the owner of Ichiraku) may have been a old teammate of Minato and this is part of the reason he is so kind to Naruto. Because he knows this is the son of his friend, but he may be in a situation where he cannot afford to take Naruto in (if he was a shinobi but now has a restaurant, he may have sustained some kind of inury that at least make him unable to continue to go on missions or something... plus, he has his own child, Ayame to take care of too and I don't think he earns all that much money you know)

I agree. But Jiraya has the alibi of always be overwhelmed with other missions while chasing Orochi, after Minato, he was the best trustworthy shinobi. Having him taking care of Naruto would help in some cases, but the Idea of taking care of a baby BIJU in the darkest time Konoha's ever had would mean lose Jiraya as this monster at handling missions. PERMANENTLY.
It was probably the craziest difficulty mission of all time, kinda like above S-rank missions. (like, I don't know, SS-rank??)
So yeah, Jiraya could handle THAT, but at this cost maybe Hiruzen and Danzo agreed not letting do it, and they still proved to other nations they were'nt losing man power, as they were doing hundreds of missions.

Heck, I'm not even sure Kakashi knew Naruto was born(survived) in that period.
Yeah he came to realize eventually, but Hiruzen might have just hidden the fact that Naruto survived and only then like, some months or a year after Danzo spread the rumors of the baby carrying the Nine tails and he realized.
He could step up then, but seeing hiruzen "taking care" of Naruto he would just Watch , as he probably would respect Hiruzen' s decision.

It would be funny for Jiraiya to carry a baby while investing the Akatsuki, that's a comedy plot right there.
The best options for a scouting mission on the Akatsuki would be Kakashi and Jiraiya. Jiraiya also had a starting point to investigate. Jiraiya also popped up in the village before Hiruzen died, it's how Naruto learned summoning jutsu. Hiruzen most likely called back Jiraiya to be a bodyguard for Naruto, which is why he planted himself near Naruto during the training and went straight back to Hiruzen after checking up on Naruto. It also would have been weird for a 50 year old to just pop up and tell a 12 year old to go with him, so he made sure Naruto was the one who asked. Sure, Jiraiya could have been around more, but there is no way for us to know if Jiraiya made routine visits to assist with checking up on Naruto

I can't understand how did Naruto learn basic skills? Like talking or brushing teeth. Who was paternal figure when he was at age 0-4? Why wasn't he/she around after that? Iruka is cool, but it seems like he noticed Naruto only when he was already somewhere at the age of 9.

I've heard somewhere that when Kishimoto made Naruto, he wanted to make a character who was completely alone and grew to hate being alone. Which led to the first instance of Naruto's backstory. Unfortunately Kishimoto just didn't plan for how he would get from Naruto's birth to his vision of Naruto at 8 years old. So we have this complicated mess of really shitty guardians and liars who said they would take care of Naruto or should have taken responsibility for him and just didn't.

He wasn't the aggressor in the village, Kakashi made the first move. Most of the information they obtained about the Akatsuki was from Jiraiya, especially since he had a connection to the original founders of the organization. He was still scouting during the time skip, Naruto and Jiraiya have visited multiple bases that Orochimaru had

Naruto doesn’t look exactly like him. He’s got whiskers, relatively short hair, big blue eyes & a less sharp jaw line. Minato had no whiskers, had long hair, sharp blue eyes & a sharp jaw line. Their features were not that similar. Kushina even tells Naruto that he has her face (Chapter 498, page 8). So it’s totally understandable for the villagers to look at Minato’s stone statue & not see Naruto since the only real similarities between their looks are the blond hair & blue eyes and color isn’t depicted on the stone statue to draw a comparison. Remember, it’s just stone.

Tbf, besides the recognizable last name, dude could've easily passed off as being part of Yamanaka clan. They are known for blonde hair. Even tsunade had it. Now if Naruto had Red hair than it would be different discussion

Honestly you can feel how kishi was making stuff up as he went. That's not an insult some writers do fantastic work with that like DBZ and one piece where the story grows as the writer goes
But Naruto this was always a strange plot hole in ho many people were there to take care of Naruto but never did. But kishi needed to give him the lonely swing set vibe to make you sympathetic to him at the start.
It's just all strange. Same with the Sasuke is his friend backstory as at most they were classmates/rivals in Naruto's mind only becoming friends later as Sasuke said himself.

The funny part is that there is a filler scene with Hiruzen sitting by a campfire roasting fish with Naruto. Both of them were relatively happy in the scene too, so it's weird that that scene is ignored

I don't even get this comparison. Jiraiya went into early retirement and didn't care and know about what was happening in the village, period. Hiruzen was specifically tasked to care for Naruto.

everyone hating on hiruzen forget that the man just wants to retire already. He was around during the First and Second Hokage's reign, he was youngest when he became hokage between the ages of 18-20 out of all seven hokages, he led konoha through two shinobi wars which lasted a total of 11 eleven years (there was a year gap between the second and third shinobi war), he had to stumble upon the fact his most prominent student became a horrific psychopath that tortured and experimented innocent people for his own means, and finally when he could appoint minato the fourth hokage after leading konoha for 29 years, minato dies a year later so he has to take up leadership again for another 13 years till his death. And all the while, he had Danzo being a sneaky bastard, trapped between his knowing that Danzo's conniving and ruthless nature is both essential for Konoha yet also the part he hates most about his home.
The guys been through more stress than probably anyone we've seen in the show. Yet despite that, he was kind man to all and was the icon of the Will of Fire for over three generations of shinobi. People hate on him as if he wouldn't be an absolute saint compared to most political leaders we have in this world.
I don’t hate on him, I just think he looks weak compared to all the other hokage that came before his death (1st, 2nd, 4th). He’s weak both in spirit and in jutsu. He himself admitted that he was always a bit too naive, which was why he had Danzo do the dirty work (except that Danzo turned to actual treachery…). And he was weak as a shinobi because he got defeated by Orochimaru lol… and he didn’t look very strong during the war climax arc, iirc…

Hiruzen was a great Kage, but he did big mistakes. He didn't take action against Orochimaru or Danzo, his leadership was weak during the Uchiha massacre, and he didn't found a single orphanage during his decades as Kage, and Konoha had a lot of orphans (Naruto, Sasuke, Iruka, Kabuto, Kakashi, maybe Guy - we don't know about his mom).
We can't turn a blind eye on him because of the outstanding work he did in other areas.
If the man wanted to retire he could have named Itachi his successor and began training him or chosen one of the Clan Heads.

I always questioned one thing about the Narutoverse..... who nursed baby Naruto? He was a newborn when Minato and Kushina made their sacrifice. Most newborns need milk. So who the hell nursed and took care of him? Hiruzen was in charge so he must have asked someone to do it. But keep in mind, in almost every culture, a newborn and the person who nurses them develop a bond. So when Naruto grows up, we never see any female characters who fit the definition of a nurse mother for him? Did Iruka bottle feed Naruto? No, because the very first episode Iruka displays a cold demeanor and blames Naruto for his parents death. Did the Ramen guy and his daughter help raise Naruto? We don't know!!!!!! this is one of those plot holes that they never delve into and it drives me crazy.
Sasuke's mom jumps out up as a prime candidate. She had just given birth to Sasuke. She was friends with kushina. The ninetails being sealed in Naruto would have still been a secret at the time of nursing. And most importantly, she was dead at the start of the series.

I wanna think it was Mikoto. She was Kushina's friend, had a child recentl, and given when she visited baby Naruto, she was thinking of Kushina, I think Mikoto never once overlapsed Naruto with the fox, but instead, with her friend. And it may even have grew stronger seeing Naruto developping the same personnality.
As to why she didn''t adopt him in this case... she may have tried. But, the request could have been denied, if the konoha elders knew that the kyubo was under a sharingan genjustu, I think they would make very sure that Hiruzen doesn't let Naruto grow up with them.

Couldn’t track down Orochimaru a single time despite Orochimaru’s being right around the corner the whole time. found Tsunade after 12 years by ACCIDENT, was over reliant on his supposed contacts network. Heck he Stumbled on Naruto by accident, no evidence he ever planned to care for Naruto before they met at all! Like wtf dude greatest shinobi my ass.
meanwhile he found out about not only the akastuki's main base of operations but was able to infiltrate it and even get info on their leader something no other ninja before him was able to do not even hanzo who according to Jiraiya was the strongest Ninja of his time

@@Oznerock Kakashi, who has disguised, used his dogs to track down foes and make patrols, and was actually an Anbu ops, would like to have a word with you. Also, Itachi was an insider in the Akatsuki for years without being suspected. These two far outclass Jiraiya in the spy department.

so this is weird.. when the episodes aired on tv for the first time, outside of looking at a filler list online, how are you supposed to know its a filler episode? and to me, it didnt play like an obvious joke. it was real to a point it appeared like a canon scene.

The difference is that before we learn about Jiraiya being his godfather we are shown that he’s a bit irresponsible. Competent but irresponsible nonetheless. However, Hiruzen is not only Hokage, but also a father of two, so we have an expectation that he will be more responsible and have an understanding of how a child should be raised.
Jiraiya spent years to train The Amegakure orphans but couldn't even spend a week to spend with Naruto in an entire year. And Jiraiya was sent to fight in the 2ND Great Ninja war, not to keep tabs on snake lady.

But I mean, Sasuke is a baby and his actions make barely any sense, him wanting power to defeat Itachi in the beginning of the series was consistent enough, but after Part 1 tge way he acts towards Naruto and the others is just psychotic without any reason, he tries to kill the other menbers of Team 7 just because he is cool, it doesn't even exist a interesting dilema like in Part 1 when Itachi said that the mangekyou is awakened when you kill your best friend, is not for this reason he wants to kill Naruto in Shipudden, he just sees fit to try to kill Naruto, and after the "good guy" Itachi revelation he just decides to destroy the Leaf, not destroy the people involved in massacre of the Uchiha or the corrupt system, the entire village just because, I'am not even mentioning how he threats Karin too, and the worst part is that he never has a redemption, we are supposed to accept at end of the series that this psychopath that brought nothing but danger and pain in the last years he was around is a good guy now? Just because he had a stalemate with the guy that was as powerful as him?

Let me tells you about a reality of Narutoverse. These villages, they are mercenary organisations backed by nations. They take money and do the mission no matter which kind as Hirizen told Naruto in episode 3. Anyone can hire them if they have enough money and have an innocent guy killed. That's how their economy work. For them children killing each other is friendship. People get attached to characters emotionally and forget this. So don't talk about pain and danger. Thry themselves are that.

One of the biggest problems is that people say that Hiruzen was a bad hokage and a asshole when the whole point is that he was a bad hokage because he was too nice of a guy and basically let Danzo deal with all the big problems. People say that he didn't take care of Naruto. It is kinda true but he was also lowkey a deadbeat to Asuma his actual son but that is never seen as a problem because I guess Asuma isn't the main character. As shown in the video even Naruto during Boruto was exhausted and neglected his family because of the demands of the hokage titel. Hiruzen never actually told anyone that Naruto was the jinchuriki it was reveald in a novel that Danzo leakez that so ideally Naruto would have a better childhood. And as said Hiruzen can't exactly force other people to not hate him because that is just being a dictator. Hell Hiruzen lost his wife Biwako to Kurama and even with that he never hated Naruto. Some people also say that he didn't take care of Sauske either. Don't know how much of the Kakashi anbu arc is canon since itvis based on a novel but at least in the anime Hiruzen put Naruto and Sauske together so that Sauske could eventually use the sharingan to controll and calm the nine tails so the attack could never be repeated. Hiruzen did have some Ls as hokage. He didn't kill Orochimaru but that was because he still saw him as his pupil and didn't want to give upp on him. And then when they meet during the konoha crush and he sees how far Orochimaru has fallen he gave his life and permanently crippeld Orochimaru weakening him until the 4th war. And he also saw this as a failiure and felt great guilt and remorse for it. He didn't manage to stop the Uchiha massacare but he was also the only elder who actually wanted or really tried to mend bridges. When it happend because of Danzo, Hiruzen still felt great regrett in being unable to stop it with even Itachi feeling greatfull to him althoug he himself disagreed. Him not getting rid of Danzo was probably his only true mistake but that was because Danzo was basically his Sauske. Even tough Danzo would never say it outloud deep down he still cared about him as a friend and just wanted to catch upp to him. Even tough they dissagreed with eatchothers methods they still ultimately trusted eachother deep down. And while Danzo did a lot of evil shit that many times backfired he at least genuenly tought it was for the good of the village. Of course this also meant for his own good as in his own mind the village could only prosper with him at the head. In the end tough he died as a ninja sacrificeing himself to stop Tobi and Sauske from getting more power. Hell its shown that Hiruzen took care of Iruka after the ninetails attack and pretty much encouraged him to look after Naruto in his stead. All in all Hiruzen tried his best with what he was given.

Minato saved the entire village from destruction by the Nine-Tails and defeated masked Obito? And then as they were dying Hiruzen promised them to take care of Naruto. And he did the bare minimum. Once Naruto was "old enough" he put him in a small apartment with little allowance and allowed the entire village to ostricize him. And he didn't say a word to them. "Stop hating him it isn't his fault." , "He is Minato and Kushina's son". Or take him in as a son and raise him like your own. You know properly train your villages Jinchuriki to not only be physically strong enough to protect himself, but also is mentally strong enough so he doesn't snap from abuse/trauma and destroys the village. I see people make the argument that if it was known he was the Minato's son he would be targeted. But he is targeted anyway! Naruto's early life has not got a lot of screentime but it's obvious by Naruto's reaction to his funeral that he was a positive influence on his life, and they had a cute dynamic in the first chapter

I mean, by all standards everyone hated and let Naruto grow himself for plot-reasons. This includes Jiraya, Hiruzen, Sasuke's Mother, Kakashi, and, all the Jonins we know and love. But, as you argued that Hiruzen was very busy with the village, you can argue the same for Jiraya. We don't know what he did in those 12 years when he was not in the village, but since we do know he discovered stuff about akatsuki, clearly he worked for the village, arguably preventing wars to start when the village was weak as well. Whatever mission or investigation Jiraya did was too dangerous to take a kid with him (12yo Naruto was a shinobi so not considered a civilian child at that point). The only thing that Jiraya could have done would be to take the role of 5th Hokage, thus staying in the village to rise Naruto as his godfather while the village will benefit alot from one of the 3 sannins as the Hokage, but anyways, he was a kind of what Sasuke is in Burrito-verse. Oh, and maybe Hiruzen is not the worst, BUT, everything that happened to the Uchiha clan and to the Naruto (who's jinchuriky identity should have been kept a secret), was BEACAUSE OF THE DANZO, WHOM HE LET DO WHATEVER TF HE WANTS FOR ALMOST LIKE 1 CENTURY?! I'll give Mikoto (Sasuke's mother) and Kakashi a break. With the political climate and the distrust of the Uchiha during Naruto's childhood no one would ever allow her anywhere near Naruto. As for Kakashi he was 15 or 16 with a lot of mental baggage father committed suicide, Obitio sacrifice himself and gave Kakashi his sharigan, the whole Rin situation, and on top of that losing the man he saw has a second father. Yeah Kakashi could barely take care of himself let alone an impressionable child.

But he was 18 when Naruto was 4, 20 when he entered academy, and I didn't expect him to adopt Naruto, but to show him some level of care maybe? Yes, you can find excuses for Kakashi, but remember that Iruka was 10 when Naruto was born, and his family were slaughter by 9-tails, so 9-tails was a direct cause of his misery, he didn't had any knowledge of Naruto's parents, and also no link to Minato at all, and still he became a father figure for Naruto. Just saying, there were so many more people, more mature then Iruka, with more connections to Minato, with more knowledge about the whole Jinchuuriki stuff, that did nothing for Naruto. Even during the chuunin exams, before seeing Naruto's fights, all the Jounins were like "this is a looser, is the 9-tail kid, how did he got here, how did he even became ninja, he has no chance".
Aight time to defend Kakashi there. You are comparing him to Iruka who'se reasoning to hate Naruto was the tragedy and subsequent trauma of losing his parents to the nine tails.
Iruka for all things considered was a damn fine and STABLE young man, he became a teacher which would require a pretty clear psychological picture because you dont throw kids in xith nobody unless you are Mizuki (but tbf, the whole point of infiltration is to hide who you really are).
On the other side we got Kakashi who after Minato died didnt end his own life due to swearing to not be li’e his father when he was a child and take the easy option out of desperation, and due to Gai.
Dude was already depressed and feeling hella lot of survivors guilt because he knows his father wanted to end himself for his sake, Obito because Kakashi was about to die aka for his sake, *he killed Rin* who chose to die for his sake, and Minato ordered all the youngin to stay out of the 9 tail attack to die for his sake, while he was ordered to protect Kushina.
Dude was so shaken after Rin (and Obito, but Rin's death made it twice worse since theres the added weight of actively failing Obito's last wish besides seeing with his eye) Minato accepted him in the Anbu for the sole purpose of keeping him close to help him recover with the last people Kakashi was familiar with.
He was so depressed ten years later that he was pretty much forced out of Anbu into the position of Teacher because he kept on taking S rank missions also known as "suicide mission" which was too much much even for the Anbu ffs, and its started time and time again at the start that he goes everyday to see the names of his friends on the stone sopetiles for hours on end whenever he is availlable thus why he always end up late because dude quite litteraly cant feel the time go by when he is there unless its an A preferably S rank mission as he cant afford to be late

The fact that no-one knew Naruto was Minato`s son but that he had the fox was a mayor pothole. But let's be honest Hiruzen was a pretty lousy hokage. He left Naruto mostly on his own as a kid, then again that seemed to be normal in the oh so great Village hidden between the leafs (Oroshimaru, Iruka,...), raising orphans is apparently not in the job description for any of the villagers. And let us not forget he basically forced a teenager to slaughter his entire clan... yeah Danzo did it, but he looked away anytime some unpopular decision had to be made (at least Tobirama wasn't`t afraid to get his hands dirty).

Hiruzen giving Naruto his allowance and Hiruzen promising Kushina he would take care of Naruto are both filler scenes in the anime that dont exist in the manga.
Hiruzen did look after Naruto as he is shown watching over him using his crystal ball in chapter 1 and 2.
Naruto also is fine. He wasn't "buying spoilt milk" that's a stupid misinterpretation of the scene. That scene is to showcase how clumsy Naruto is: because if he was buying old food he would be eating a moldy sandwich at the start of chapter 3, but he isnt. In the fanbook it states that Naruto has plants in his apartment that are taken cared for: most adults can't take care of plants properly, so the fact Naruto can suppprts the fact that the milk is a singular occurrence. As well as that: Naruto has and uses grooming products, which someone who was poor couldn’t necessarily afford to do.
People act as if the entire world of Naruto doesn’t send kids to battle at as young as 5 years old. And people want to complain about Naruto not having a great childhood: kids in general dont have a good childhood in Naruto. They grow up with PTSD and there is a consistent generational trauma and low life expectancy - especially when the ninja world has been at war more times than it has been at peace.
Hiruzen literally says that as soon as you get the headband you're an adult in chapter 2 in the leaf. And kids mostly graduate the academy at as young as 10 if not younger. Which means independence is paramount in that ninja society and is an expectation.
Naruto doesnt get any caretakers just like Sasuke, Kakashi, Iruka, Orochimaru didn’t get any.
To talk about Naruto's childhood before the beginning of the series is stupid as fuck because we don't see any of it and we no information of it is canon.
If Naruto was to be given a guardian the only appropriate person would be Jiraya - since he's someone Hiruzen can trust and is powerful enough to protect Naruto against Akatsuki who might harm him.

Finally justice for Hiruzen. He certainly made mistakes, but he was far from a bad leader or even a bad father figure. Asuma, his son, recognized this better than anyone, besides all of his students, they were like sons to him, hence the difficulty of stopping Orochimaru. And the main factor that shows that he did his best to take care of Naruto, is the fact that the Hokage that Naruto looks up to and admires, is not Hashirama, nor Tobiram or Kakashi, but the kind Sarutobi. Just remembering the scene where Tsunade disrespects the third man's memory shows how much Naruto respected the Old Man. And we can see in the status quo of Naruto acting as the seventh Hokage

Yes thank you, Hiruzen wasn't nearly as bad as people make him out to be, and that filler scene isn't canon. Though I don't blame Jiraiya for being absent for those 12 years either. It's literally explained that he was actively spying in other villages and collecting intel on the Akatsuki during those years (and possibly more). You made him seem worse than he is by only mentioning how he spent those 12 years just doing 'research' and writing novels, while that's obviously just something he does on the side during his breaks. Also like you explained, Kushina told Hiruzen to take care of Naruto and Hiruzen did just that, and I doubt Jiraiya was unaware of that. So it makes perfect sense that, despite being his Godfather, Jiraiya entrusted Naruto to Hiruzen and remained as the only active duty sannin (cause at this point Tsunade an Orochimaru had already left the village), instead of becoming essentially useless to the village as Naruto's guardian.
It's a bit ironic that you yourself hold a double standard despite the point of this video, only in your case it's against Jiraiya instead of Hiruzen. So I don't agree with that Jiraiya part. Overall I think the writing makes perfect sense for both Hiruzen and Jiraiya in regards to how Naruto was raised, with the only missing detail being how Naruto was taken care of in the first couple of years of his life as a baby/toddler/very young child.

Jiraiya was spying on the akatsuki all this time so he protected Naruto and the Leaf the only way he could. By the way, we don't know if he really never showed up to Naruto during this 12 yrs. He could watch out for him from the background, just like Kakashi did for Kushina when she was pregnant. It's unfair to be making up excuses for Hiruzen that he was "busy running the village" and then turning around and accusing Jiraiya of neglect because he was writing softcore novels. He wasn't away from the village for no reason either, he was trying to investigate the Akatsuki, y'know, that organization that would eventually want to go after Naruto? I do think the fandom is a bit too unfair towards Hiruzen but you can't argue his innocence by acting like Jiraiya is guilty. I hate how fans just assume Hiruzen should have been super close to Naruto and that he didn't have the same sort of fear or disdain for him as other villagers.
Remember that originally Naruto was going to literally be Kurama and this is how villagers viewed him even if he didn't show it.
Hiruzen being very close to Naruto would not only put his life at risk but would also make him less popular with the village.
And it was also very normal to treat jinchurikis very badly, far worse than how he was treated.
We could however talk about all of Minato's and Kushina's clan's money but the economics of Naruto and ninja wages is thoroughly borked anyway. Death likely leads to money going to the village and not to descendants. Headcanon some inheritance paperwork not getting filled out. But of course the Naruto world economy is borked anyway with Naruto being poor even after S rank missions so best not to think about it.

Where I think Jiraiya has some leeway, however, is that he believed Hiruzen was taking care of Naruto. So I do fault Jiraiya slightly less than Hiruzen.
That being said, Jiraiya also should have been reasonably familiar with how poor Konoha's systems for caring for orphans are (as in, they don't exist, even though this is a place that would have had tons of orphans).
Kakashi also could hold some blame. His youth would make it normally valid that he would have trusted Hiruzen and the establishment, BUT Kishimoto's decision to establish him and Itachi as precocious geniuses negates that a bit.

People love using filler to justify their arguments and it genuinely gets me angry. They can’t find anything to defend their beliefs, so they run to filler and hide from the manga/canon
My points on Hiruzen being bad is not directly tied to him not raising Naruto, but his decisions during his second time as Hokage.
- He let Danzo leak the news about Naruto being Jinchuriki (I belive it's Volume 2 of Itachi Shinden) and didn't supressed it, despite being the ultimate power in the village, which also resulted in worsening the reputation of the Uchiha clan
- Didn't managed to find a good footing with relations with Uchiha clan, thus resulting in their massacre by his orders.
- Let Orochimaru go, which led to many horrible events that he ensued.
And all that are actual decisions that he made. Not "mistakes" that you claim them to be.
