How does this compare with what you thought super yachts did during the winter? If you owned a super yacht, would you take it all over the world or just use it for a few weeks in the summer? I look forward to hearing your comments!
Matthew, this was one of your finest motivational videos! It is really incredible how well you use your time and what you are always thinking about. You do have a love of really active outdoor sports and you’ll even spend a little bit of downtime where you are not working on advancing your career. These are things that I can only base on what you have told me.
Thanks Mitchell! I'm really happy to hear that you liked the motivational bit. I have gained a lot from motivational speakers over the last few years, and it is a goal of mine to be able to inspire positive actions and behaviour in others.
@@WorkonaSuperyacht You definitely must inspire confidence in other people, at least based upon what I have seen here on your UA-cam channel. I need to do a better job proofreading my comments, because when I read back what I have written to you, I am sometimes embarrassed by my grammatical errors. I have no problems taking constructive criticism. I go crazy when I hear people making the same grammatical errors over and over again. I always hear fewer and less used incorrectly by almost everyone! I had to look up the proper usage, because I hear it used incorrectly so many times that I thought that I was using it incorrectly. My dad taught me to never correct others, especially not in public. I received my worst marks in school in any type of English studies. Your English is so proper and amazing, I would think that you went to the finest schools in England and that you earned perfect marks.
Enjoyed your video as usual, if only there videos like this one for other professions. People new to any profession would be more prepared. All I can say is that there re so much information out there, to yours just brings it more specific details, that it makes you feel like your really learning something important, that needs retaining. Keep it up.

I don't know if you'll come to my comment but I have some questions if you don't mind. Say someone owns something like a majesty 140 n the majority of its time will be spent on the great lakes, specifically lake Michigan. Which in the winter it couldn't stay in the water. The boat is also just for private use n would only need a captain, someone to keep it tidy, security, n maybe an extra deckhand, n the owner doing a large part of the rest as a very hands on owner. N it would be parked in a private large custom boathouse/dry dock so there wouldn't need to be a full time crew especially during the winter. N they arent gonna take it thousands of miles away to park it in Florida or something to get battered by hurricanes. What sort of opinions would you have on that sort of situation?
@Tiago Figueiredo I haven't been to Portugal on a yacht, but I have visited for a few days on holiday. I loved it! We stayed just outside the Sintra National Park, and it really is beautiful there. Amazing sunset at Cabo da Roca; felt like we were standing on the edge of the Earth! Do you do any cruising during the winter?
We have no idea if you are in any kind of relationship, as you don’t share any private information on this channel or it’s shared Instagram account. I am not trying to ask you any personal questions, but in the future when you are a Captain somewhere, how will you keep your personal life separate from your work life? Thank you so much, you are truly a remarkable man.
I would ideally like a rotational job because this enforces a good work-life balance. At the moment I spend the majority of the year on the yacht, and I find it hard to detach from work even when I'm not actually working.
@@WorkonaSuperyacht A rotational job would be fantastic to allow you some type of work-life balance. @Raynold Vezina On my current yacht as first officer I have 3 bars; however, if I were to work on a larger yacht over 500GT I wouldn't be able to hold such a high position. In this case I'd have two. Next year I shall have the qualification to work as a chief officer with 3 bars on yachts up to 3000GT.

Hey good job on the informative vids 👌. I have a couple of questions.. if i was to get a job on a yacht in the med for summer would it be easy to stay on the boat for the winter months? Is it a sought after time/position for crew to want to stay or do most want to just do the summer/busy periods? Reason i ask is i dont think I'd be eligible for B1B2 visa which would make me unable to do Caribbean season if im correct? Also as a dive instructor if i was to travel over and landed a job on a vessel that would require my dive skills would i need to bring my own BCD/REGs etc or would the boat supply these? Cheers
Hey Matthew, does this mean that although it could be hard, you can find a job even in the winter season? I live in the med and i'm debating if i should leave my job and start to look seriously for yacht jobs but then i feel guilty because that would mean leave my colleagues alone during peak season, I'd be more comfortable doing that when the summer season is over and other colleagues will be able to do the job without me
Hello Alex. You could try to find work on a yacht that was going to cross the Atlantic for the Caribbean season; they usually leave between October and December. Yachts that stay in the Mediterranean often reduce their crew numbers. They may offer you a few days work here and there, but finding permanent work on them could be difficult. A yacht going into a busy shipyard period is likely to offer more work than most. You can try, but winter certainly isn't the best time to look for work in the Mediterranean. The exception to this might be a crew chef role, where they want someone to stand in for the chef whilst they are away on holiday.
Hello Bogdan. Spring is a great time to start! Depending on the situation next year, opportunities should start coming up in the Mediterranean around April.
well hello young sir . i am back at work on thursday back at the mad house but you cant have everything in life but there you go hope your having a good time and looking after your self take care and all the best to you and your crew
Great video again I feel like owning one of these now and feel glad not to. Even though I wish I was in a position to afford such a cash burning machine. So at least I know what I dont need.
This is certainly the view of some owners; however, it's not possible to get rid of everyone because they require a certain number of crew for safety and insurance reasons.
