Are you thinking about what might be next after your yachting career? Or maybe you've already made the move and have your own story to tell. If so, I'd love to hear all about it.
I've been through some of that life-reassessment, and it also involved a change in relationship status so you are not the first man to make such a leap. From what I have seen of your personality and skill-set, assuming you don't want to walk into a yacht related teaching job or brokerage or holiday-rental, I thought that Environmental Compliance Specialist, Project Manager in so many fields (shipping or tourism as well and industry) as well as bland sounding Logistics Management would welcome your experience and intellect. Hope all goes well Mathew. 👍
You’ve been such a gem in the yachting community, Thankyou for all the time and dedication you’ve put into your videos to help green crew get a start in this industry. It’s hard and a lot of people will try and sell expensive courses for basic information and take advance of people wanting to start in this industry. Unfortunately just having recently getting started myself I’ve seen the direction it’s heading in. With hundreds of crew desperate for work, even offering to work for free. It’s hard work and stressful getting a start in this industry and you’re one of the few people who genuinely wanted to help without seeking compensation from young aspiring and desperate greenies. Your videos where shown in many of my yacht courses and the knowledge you shared over the last few years is beyond valuable. You will always be a major factor in why I got started in this industry and I know I couldn’t thank you enough. Good luck with your future journeys and I hope to see more videos!
Hello Jasmine. Thank you for leaving such a heartfelt comment. I'm so pleased to know that these videos have had such a positive impact. Congratulations on getting started in the industry, and I wish you every success for the future.
All the best Matthew! You are absolutely correct, we all reach a crossroad (or three) in our life and pause to reflect on the direction we are heading. I look forward to learning more about the next stage of your life and hope that, perhaps, you have found the right woman who will make you happy for the rest of your life!!
So so so valuable . That human element . I'm in the same position and have felt this way for a long time. Focusing on my exit plan but trying to be present in the moment . Thanks Matt
Hi Matthew, I have REALLY enjoyed your videos. I enjoy following yacht sites and am always fascinated by the crew accommodations, and wondered what sort of difficult life that must be. Your various content was terrific. So genuine and honest. I have owned a 40 foot boat in my past and hated cleaning it and always wondered how much work went into maintaining these gorgeous super yachts. You showed me. Very cool. I wish you all the best and hope you have a wonderful new set of adventures in your life. Thanks so much for sharing.
You've been one of my inspirations in pursuing my yachting career. I left my high-paying and stable position in commercial shipping and should have been promoted to the highest engineering rank last year but I chose to let it go because I no longer feel excited working on commercial ships. Now, it will be my second season onboard my first private yacht and I feel good about it and more excited everyday. I really feel your point Man and I salute you for following your intuition. You're doing a great decision and we will be more excited to your upcoming endeavors. More power to you Mate and enjoy the process!
It's great to hear your story, and thank you for sharing. It really helps the community. Wishing you every success as you continue with your yachting career.
Matthew, you are one incredibly smart man, because most people haven’t thought about their future as carefully as you have. I think that many people just live one day at a time and they can’t imagine growing old and even watching their own vibrant parents die from old age or any of our terrible diseases. I know that’s a bit heavy, but I’m 64 now and I don’t have an unlimited number of Christmas’s left. Congratulations on finding your wonderful girlfriend Adriana! I look forward to the privilege of watching your future content, my friend Matthew!
Best chief officer! Taught me so well, I carry on your legacy of not standing up my poles in the bucket don't you worry. I tell them off on deck every day. Lots of love.
You are such a legend Mathew! We have to give you huge thank you about what you doing for Green Crew and how you helped over the years and still helping the whole community! It is so important to know when its the time for leaving something for good & move forward! Congratulations mate, wish you the best luck with the next step & we will follow for sure!!
You've been a great gatekeeper for those thinking about to join this industry. And I'm nothing but grateful to you for all your knowledge transmission, even through email (before your boom, when your inbox was manageable ahah). Even in this 'last' video there is some crucial food for thought. I think the exit plan is for sure one of the main think abouts for someone thinking about joining yachting. And that's precisely what I'm up to now. Lay the foundations, see how it's going on, and leave it on idle once I join yachting (IF I join yachting). ALL THE BEST MATE! I think you know where to find me, if you don't remember you can check our emails and it may be there, so you are always welcome to take a visit someday. Cheers!
I have enjoyed your videos and have learned a lot even as a yacht owner/operator. Best of luck to you in your next chapter and I look forward to seeing what you do next. Whatever it is I'm sure you will be a great success. 👍
I started yachting 3 years ago, felt sick of this lifestyle this year, managed to create a source of income from amazon and i will try to expand further in the online business world, thank you for all your videos, I learned a lot from you and it is nice to know in the back of my mind that I can always come back on a superyacht and earn good money even if that means sacrificing my life for months and months ... After all, the most difficult point for any business is to get started and have money to invest...thankfully yachting can be a great great help for people who wants to try until they make it! I wanted to take my yacht master but for now I will just wait and see how the things will go for myself...another thing that yachties complains about is that the wages are the same since 20 years despite the cost of living is 2-3x what it was... It is still nice to know that the industry is at an all time high and the demand will be very high for the next year's
Good luck with whatever you do, Matthew! The past few years have been chaotic, especially the current situation in yachting with the war and all. You have been invaluable to future yacht crew and for us who just enjoy watching yachts.
Hey Matthew! First of all, congratulations on the new direction and making the step to change, it can be a scary and unsettling thing to go through, but once you have made that step, it can feel amazing. Secondly, it is as if you have just reached into my mind and verbalised exactly where I am at. I am not in yachting, but private aviation as chief steward and I have been flying as crew (commercial then private) for almost 17 years. I feel exactly as you have described, and for the same reasons. I am 43 this week and after losing my father to leukaemia in 2020, my outlook on work and life in general started to change. Now my mum is almost 70 and I value my time with my family much more than I appreciated, I feel like the month on month off rotation with uncertainty of roster, and being so far away from home, just isn't worth the mental anguish any more. I will be following closely what you are up to, and if you do set up the new channel, you can count me in. I know I have many many skills, but I have no idea what to do with them next. Very, very best of luck to you and I look forward to seeing more from you in the near future. Take care Matthew 🙂
Hello Andi, and thank you for sharing your own situation in the comments again; it's been interesting to learn about the areas of our respective industries that overlap. I hope you manage to find a path forward that serves you better. Your continued support is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to sharing my next steps. Maybe it will give you some ideas!
Matthew - you are an extremely well-spoken and articulate person. Spokesperson for a large company, corporation, government (federal, state/province, municipal level), etc. are possibilities. Instructor at a yacht/nautical training school? You are also obviously an intelligent and caring person. All of the aforementioned are excellent skills that, sadly, seem to be a rarity these days. I believe 'the world is your oyster', and you will excel at whatever you choose. Good luck and 'Godspeed' to you!
Wishing you all the happiness and success. Many years ago I worked on Cruise liners, woke up in Japan (first time there! and couldn’t be bothered to get off the boat! That’s when I knew the sparkle had gone and I needed to make roots on land. HI have the best photo album and set of memories I could ever dream of, but TOTALLY understand how you feel. That was 28 years ago & for me and those sea years gave me so many incredible skills to take e through life. We all move on and now is your time. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 (My daughter joined her first yacht in October and son doing his training in Antibes this summer 😂) It’s the way the cycle works. 🎉
Wanted to thank you for all the effort of yours that you’ve put in the videos you’ve made, you’ve personally helped me a lot, solved couple of troubles of mine. I wanna wish you luck on whatever you plan on doing, believe me you’ve got it. Cheers!
This information is gold. I am about to change my life to do this. So thank you for the heads up and for ALL your videos covering everything! Thank you!🙏
Great video Matt, I understand how you feel and I can relate to all you said. Yachting is a huge sacrifice and it is beyond me how it is possible that after all this years industry is still so hectic in many regards, with huge migrations and extremely poor retention of the crew. One would expect that by now everybody realized that time for time rotation is the only way to work without burning people ... Good luck buddy and keep recording videos because you are great.
Thank you, trainingwood. I shall be releasing a video today (Monday 8th May) that takes a closer look at these exact problems. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on that one.
I just started my first season as a deckhand onboard a super yacht. You were a huge inspiration for me and really gave me the confidence to take a leap of faith and try my luck at finding a job onboard a super yacht in the Mediterranean. I arrived in Antibes on the 8th of March and was lucky enough to find some daywork shortly after my arrival. I remember referring back to your videos when I did my first wash down. After several weeks of searching I finally got the call to join a yacht in La Spezia. I start on Monday! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you have put into your videos, they have helped me in a massive way. Wishing you all the best for the start of your new journey.
Thanks for another great video sharing your life and thoughts. You have a unique and accessible style of communication which I find both informative and interesting. At times your humor shines in such a way that makes me think you would be wildly entertaining and successful as a comedian focused on observation such as Jerry Seinfeld. Whatever you decide to do, I am sure that it will be worth our time to accompany you on the journey. Best of luck with your new relationship and I look forward to seeing your next musings.
I'm sad to see this chapter close for you, but I'm excited for your new adventures! Thank you so much for your content and insight in this industry and sharing your knowledge and experiences. Best of luck my friend!
Thank you for your service. 😉 Ten years is a good stint in a career. It is also quite normal to change careers at some point in your life. Some people will change careers a few times. Spending your early adult years working in yachting can be a huge opportunity for getting yourself in a great financial position for your future life. Start with a good financial plan though and take it seriously. Shoot, if you do it well, you could conceivably retire after ten years! If you want to retire in style, work 15 years in yachting with a proper financial plan.
Thank you, Peter. You're absolutely right that a solid 15 years in yachting could set you up (financially) for life. I just checked out your channel, and more specifically your very insightful video on aging; I loved it!
Second, you were surely mist, glad to see you have figure out, somewhat, your life. As you say, not always easy, sometimes it just hits you out of nowhere. I will certainly be a subscriber of your new Channel. Looking forward to new content on both channels. Happy to hear you are now attached! You are now embarking on a new journey in your life, Congratulations! :)
Hello Frank! It's been a while, and I hope all is well with you. Thanks again for your enduring support. I look forward to sharing the next stage with you and the rest of the community.
Such a legend. Your videos I always wish would have come out back when I was in yachting. Could have helped me out so much in the start. I suffered with 'nothing works' in yachting point when I was in my mid-20's with a kid on the way and deciding how much time and firsts I wanted to miss. That's when I realized it was none. So those two factors combined to the point that I was finished. I later regretted it, but only slightly and thats mainly because money was tight. I wish I would have stayed within the industry somehow. Now all I want to do is try and get back in, but my life has too many restrictions so even that is hard. If you have any passion left for the industry, that is the one thing I suggest you do. Stay connected in some way. Lot's of charter outfits, people looking to get itineraries together, having agents in place for all sorts of things, project manager, yard maintenance manager. Poland obviously has Sunreef and Columbus yachts. They could pay for the knowledge you have in building a yacht on spec. Those are all good things to offer up as skills. Whatever happens, I'll watch. You are highly entertaining, funny, knowledgeable and have a gift with storytelling. Even telling stories about previous trips where you play all the characters along the way would be a huge hit. Even if you do nothing in yachting it's worth it. I had friends that were going to France and Italy and I sent them your video about dock walking and navigating the trains there, to watch. Your gift is your ability to tell the story in the most entertaining way.
I' m very happy to see you again and to see that you are doing well. Life ist Change 🌞 We are geting older and changing with the course of life 😎 How about working as a crew on a yacht for your loved one? 😉 I'm excited to see what you'll do next 🚁🚀 As chief officer you are very qualified and your how to too videos are excellent. Looking forward 🙏🙏🙏
Glad to have an update and just as glad you're doing well. 6:06 ... about 24 years ago now, I was a fully fledge adult who was not quite having a mid-life crisis but not at all happy. A boss who was also my very trusted mentor - handed me a little paperback book. I went into my office with that book (and I think with my lunch as well), put me feet up and didn't come out until I had read it. Not long after (I don't recall the exact time frame) - I was GONE. Lock, Stok & Barrel - not only that job, but that industry and moved half way across the country. That book was called "Who Moved My Cheese". #ChangedMyLife. Whether I continue to follow you or not, I wish you the very best with your future. And congratulate you on having the foresight (and CURAGE) to get out before it ruined you. 👍👍
@@WorkonaSuperyacht ~ you’ve pretty much done what I needed that book for. I do think you’ll get something from it though, even if just more confirmation you’re doing the right thing for you at this time. (You still have all the training and experience and nothing would prevent you from going back to yachting if you wanted to.) And it’s not a very long book so it won’t take you much to get through it. I think I read it more than once after that first read - just because I was so convinced it was right in what it was saying and I wanted to be sure I was getting the whole message, haha. I do think I owe quite a bit to the mentor who handed it to me and recommend it to anyone who is questioning where they are. Again, I wish you the best - still enjoy watching your old vids when I have time to go back and view them. And I’m sure there are people out there wanting to get into yachting who get a ton out of them. 👍
I got a job in the boating industry not long after finding your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and being such a pillar of the community!
I don't work in the yachting industry's and never have , but found your videos very interesting and your openness and honesty are very refreshing, hope to catch you soon on the new channel , all the best and thanks
Thanks Matthew for your channel! I’m 39 this year and spent most of my life in supply chain/ warehousing. With me you fulfilled your goal of making sure new entrants don’t neglect their certs and get stuck in a position. I’m now well on my way in deck and engineering, on a yacht that gets plenty of sea time so in a year or two I can start getting my OOW courses completed and sit for my OOW 3000. You are a great teacher and guide. Best of luck in your new pursuit. I hope you find your next calling like I did. I know you will be great at anything you apply yourself towards. Cheers!
Thank you so much for all you have brought to us all over the years, whether we were interested in a career in yachts or just plain curious. It is so true about different between continuing in something because you want to or because you feel trapped in it. Transitioning out of things can be hard as many ex military personnel can attest. An exit strategy is probably not the best mind set starting off in any career, but as you make your way in a given career having an eye for a suitable exit strategy is a wise path, unless you are happy to stay somewhere to retirement but even that needs planning. Wishing you very success in whatever you do with your career going forward, and the very best in your personal life. May the future bring everything you wish, because I am sure you will work hard to bring these things to you.
Hi Matthew. Thank you for all your videos so far. You truly are a legend, and I'm looking forward to see the future updates. My heart gets warm when I see people making good decisions for their life as you do now. It's going to be great. I just entered the last month of my own notice period, and absolute uncertainty starts in June. Best of luck on your journey,
Thank you, Tingeling. It's always great to hear from you in the comments, and your continued support is greatly appreciated. Wishing you every success for June and beyond!
Matt. Will continue to follow you. You're an absolute joy to listen to. Your headspace and your overall happiness are the most important. Mental Health in the Yachting Industry is far overlooked and the outlets are lacking especially during the charters. Can't wait to see what you do next. John
It’s been a long way without my friend Oh I tell you all about it when I see you again! Great job on making a life changing decision Matthew! Let’s say you’re not retiring, not quitting but evolving. Thank you for your experience and all the funny and creative moments in your videos. We are going to be alright! I as a man am glad to hear that you found a good worthy relationship partner. Good for you! I wish you good luck and all the best on your future life journey!
This is quite refreshing to hear. I joined my first yacht in October 2022 at the age of 28. It's private/charter and the season will start in June and end in October. I'm currently a deckhand and my contract is 11 months on, 1 month off. The only crew members with any kind of real rotation are the Cpt and C/E with 2 on and 2 off. I'm enjoying my job so far, I'm learning so much about the deck, and I'm definitely far more financially stable since having this job. With that being said, I already feel like yachting is not for me. Spending almost all of your time away from home, family and friends isn't sustainable for me. Not only that but almost everyone else on this yacht is saying that they see an end to their yachting careers as well (not because of this particular yacht, btw) because of contract times and the difficulties the industry comes with. I can see myself in this career for 2 or 3, possibly 4 years to gain more money and have a good financial foundation but my passion lies elsewhere. It's a shame because I spent 3 years of my life getting my OOW Unlimited Certificate but it's not worth me being miserable just for the sake of money. Yachting can be great for your finances, you will have some truly unique experiences that can't be found elsewhere and you will make friends for life. But for me, thus far, the cons outweigh the pros. Then again, in 2 or 3 years' time, I may grow to love this industry! Who knows? Anyway, thank you so much for your videos and I wish you all the best for the future!
Congratulations on the relationship Matt, and well done for doing what you felt was the right decision, a possible Avenue could be yacht brokerage maybe? That way you’re still in the industry. And can still give insights?
All the best Matthew! I have just joined you and you have brought me so much comfort in these beginning stages so thank you for sharing your journey and knowledge with us all! I hope you enjoy the next chapter and all it has to offer! Enjoy expanding on all your other interests! :)
wow, thank you for sharing this with us. first of all you are not alone in this world with this problem. this is also why I found this channel ;) your videos where/are still great for greens like me and others. but please keep this channel and make more videos about this job! its so helpfull and nice to watch. maybe you can go as a purser or somebody that helps other people to get in to the job? maybe like a recruiter. anyways, thank you so much for this amazing time and videos that you put here. and I wish you the best in you life with your new girlfriend! Thanks Cap!
Thank you, Jonathan. I really appreciate your feedback. I plan to continue releasing videos on the channel, so don't worry! The next one goes out this evening (Monday 8th May). I hope you find some value in that one too. Wishing you every success with your yachting career.
thank you Mathew!!! In my case I've already had a lot of experience on land and now at 40 I want to try the maritime industry! you motivated me and helped a lot with your advice...Greetings from Brazil
You are fantastic man Mate so im very happy for your decision because its gonna make u happier and also very exciting to see ur new channel so good luck Matheu
The way out would be: getting your own yacht! Ha! I was so close to step on your path, I had my courses all lined up, but then I got a job offee in a different area with a good pay, so I took it, but it made me feel soo shitty about not following my dream! But now looking at your video, Im thinking, maybe it was a right choice! And I still got my hobby cruiser yacht. Anyways, good luck, will be following you on your new channel! ❤
Matthew, I have been a subscriber of your channel since last fall. My lady and I are planning on making some serious business Investments over the next year. Would love to hear more of the line of work that you would be interested in.
Hello again my friend! You were one of the first to know that in the 2023 season I got the position of Chief officer on 40m+ yacht and I want to say that this season will be a test season for me. I have to decide if I should continue or if it's better to return to the construction industry on the coast. I feel that I am not satisfied with the work on yachts. I have come a long and very successful way in this direction, but it is not quite what I expected. Just like you, I feel that I need to exhale and relax. I just want to leave this comment here for those who aspire to the yachting industry. I started as a sailor 2 years ago when I was 34 years old. Now I'm almost 37 and this is my third season and first time as Chief Officer, but I don't feel happy. Initial motivation evaporated and interest disappeared. This job may not be right for you. Get ready for hard work. Remember that you are trading your life time for money here.
Hello, always enjoyed your video’s, feel it’s a healthy thing to follow your gut,heart/mind, and wish the very best with whatever resonates with you, and I’m curious what it wil be, wish you a splendid future…till the next one
hello Mathew I am not going anywhere you set up a new channel i will follow you there !!! here's my first thought set up a school or yachting university to teach the new generation of yacht kids well that's what i call them you would make a great mentor !!! or perhaps do the yachting thing from the business end setting up charters etc. just a couple of thoughts that's all kind regards johnarrow
This video has opened a can of worms for me. I’m 30 been a chief officer on numerous 45-55m vessels for the past 2-3 years now and took a long break in winter. About to start the season now on a new gig which I thought I wanted but really I’m not happy, deep down I don’t think I ever have truly been happy in this industry and only the money is what’s kept me going . Trying to find this pay elsewhere isn’t an easy task especially when you’ve been used tax free income for so long.
Dear Matthew, You are lucky to have been able to start in the yachting industry. It is a fact and correct me if I'm wrong, but not all nationalities can join the industry. I hold my unlimited qualifications and have tried to join but rarely was I given a chance (only in the last year and they have been asking for covid vaccine which I haven't got). In any case, being in the merchant navy, lots of us dream about working on yachts but I can understand how serving customers can be as exhausting as transferring cargo (though we rarely get any complaints!). You work long hours, sometimes not meeting the requirements, it is expected that you are in a good mood even when you're not, plus most of you work on permanent contracts and therefore only go home for about a month per year. Did you ask yourself if by finding a rotational position you would feel better? My suggestion is that since you now have management experience (chief mate's sea-time in your seaman's book) you should look into working ashore. Try any ISM compliance roles, crew management (since you've been giving advise over here) or class related roles.
Hello Navigator, and thank you for the suggestions. Although not impossible, you're right that some nationalities struggle more than others to get started in the yachting industry.
@@WorkonaSuperyacht Matthew good day, do yachts invite commercial background Masters to advise them on various issues, such as safety, security and other various aspects of management? What other issues do they need the MN Masters to attend to and what qualifications could the latter acquire so as to perform this kind of freelance work?
Hey Matthew, I've always watched Bellow Deck - in your extensive experience, how true is all the scenarios? Is it heavily edited? And the Captain is often shown sitting in the wheelhouse doing absolutely nothing all day, is that factual as well?. Best regards, Glenn - South Australia
Hello Glenn. I've watched very little of Below Deck, but I do know that the production team set up scenarios to catch the crew off guard. If there was that much going wrong ordinarily then you'd have to question the competence of the crew. And no, most captains aren't chilling in the bridge all day 😅. Furthermore, there are "real" crew on board that you don't see who keep the yacht running safely behind the scenes.
I don't think there was anything that particularly annoyed me. It was great when I was younger, but the lifestyle just doesn't work for me anymore. Living at work became more tiresome as a grew older, and I wanted to pursue other things.
Why is it oh no? You've got 3 years until you're 35, and there are plenty of yacht crew here in the comments who started much later than that. If a career in yachting is what you really want, you should go for it!
@@WorkonaSuperyacht I reached the same point in my life when I'm wondering what am I doing with my time really in the office. In short, thanks to this job now, I had the chance to start sailing as a hobby, and in the past 2-3 years that put me in the mindset that I don't belong in the office. I take more pride in a well-polished stainless steel handrail or a well-planned passage that my crew enjoys, than I do in a new product or feature launch working in tech. However, if I want to be completely honest with myself, I would like to start a family in the next few years, and I'm pretty sure that a career in Yachting is not compatible in any way with that "project", and this is exactly that you mention as well in the video as kind of a breaking point. So I feel have to get the priorities straight if I want to take pride and joy in my work or be "stable".
Hello my dear friend! I perfectly understand what you're talking about. I understand you as if you are retelling my feelings. Any decision you make is your personal choice and it is always the best. Don't listen to colleagues, they may express their feelings, but you do what's best for you. I am very glad that you met a beautiful girl. Thank you very much for your help which is hard to appreciate. I support you in your decision. I'm sure you'll be good at whatever you do. I wish you great happiness and success in the new stage. Always in touch my friend 🤝🫂
Matthew! You have inspired me to follow through on my journey as a superyacht crew member! Thank you for all your hard work and devotion to this channel. You are a legend. I solute you🫡
Hey Matthew good for you. Always do whatever you love, the money is pointless when you don't have the friends, family, freedom of choice and time to enjoy it and many people get stuck in a career they hate fearing to make the change themselves. Again well done for taking that leap of faith in yourself. It's hard to leave an industry that is looked upon as the pinnacle of success having been there myself as you know. As your priorities change and you develop, change is inevitable. Give me a call when your ready to bounce some ideas around you have my number. The exit strategy I formed to help those leaving the industry was the Superyacht Crew Property Academy because as you say what options are available once you leave? Best of luck to you. Layton #RaisingtheBarr
Question: you should tell us stuff that you may not have wanted to say before when you were still in the industry. And also how much tips did you make on average for a charter? And how long was the charter? And how many charters did you get on average during a three month season, or whatever? Stuff like that would also be cool.
Why not go into brokerage
@@wolraadwoltemade3275 Don't!

Thank you, Mitchell. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
@@WorkonaSuperyacht You are very welcome 🙏🏻
Change your youtube acc to your name, and just vlog, if you feel up for it. You make good videos mate! Fans will still watch
Good luck to you wherever life takes you. 🌻
'Legend'.
Thank you, Paul.
So happy to see you again! Now I'm going to watch the video
Thanks for sharing your story, Alex. I wish you all the best with the online business.
Really thoughtful video Matthew. It will be cool to see what you do with your new channel as well!!😊exciting times
Good luck with whatever you do, Matthew! The past few years have been chaotic, especially the current situation in yachting with the war and all. You have been invaluable to future yacht crew and for us who just enjoy watching yachts.
Hello SailorYuki. Thank you for all your support over the past few years.
Sooner or later, most of us want a family.
Good luck and God speed.
Ten years is a good stint in a career.
10 years, really, l have been doing the same job for almost 60 years
Thank you, Peter. You're absolutely right that a solid 15 years in yachting could set you up (financially) for life.
I just checked out your channel, and more specifically your very insightful video on aging; I loved it!
@@WorkonaSuperyacht Ah yes, my back in the UA-cam stone ages videos. 😉
Good luck on the next adventure. Definitely loved the yatch videos.
Yea, those yatches are really something. 😉
Thanks for being real with us man
I' m very happy to see you again and to see that you are doing well.
Life ist Change 🌞
We are geting older and changing with the course of life 😎
How about working as a crew on a yacht for your loved one? 😉
I'm excited to see what you'll do next 🚁🚀
As chief officer you are very qualified and your how to too videos are excellent.
Looking forward 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you, Daniel. I really appreciate your support over the last couple of years.
Thank you, Google Voicer. I've added the book to my reading list!
@@WorkonaSuperyacht ~ you’ve pretty much done what I needed that book for. I do think you’ll get something from it though, even if just more confirmation you’re doing the right thing for you at this time. (You still have all the training and experience and nothing would prevent you from going back to yachting if you wanted to.)
And it’s not a very long book so it won’t take you much to get through it.
Great channel. You have grown as a presenter, also as a Yacthie, I am sure you have helped many others grow too. Well done, to you Sir !
Thank you, Vince.
Its been a blast and super informative. Thanks.
Follow your heart and be happy , all the best
Thank you for all your videos and helping new crew navigating their way in the yachting industry! Good luck in wherever life takes you next. 🤙🏻
Matt. Will continue to follow you. You're an absolute joy to listen to. Your headspace and your overall happiness are the most important. Mental Health in the Yachting Industry is far overlooked and the outlets are lacking especially during the charters. Can't wait to see what you do next. John
Best of luck for your future endeavours. My good friend who was a Capt. on Superyachts has just embarked on a career in commercial aviation.
We appreciate you, and wish you all the best . It's all love🙌
It’s been a long way without my friend
Oh I tell you all about it when I see you again!
All the best Matthew. You have very postively impacted my career choices and I hope things work out with Adriana🎉
I am glad your ok, there was nothing on the internet to say where you were.
Is a start, go step-by-step to each Qualifying to the next Rang. Good luck. Capt. Dieter
All the best for your future endeavours. I liked your videos very much
Congratulations on the relationship Matt, and well done for doing what you felt was the right decision, a possible Avenue could be yacht brokerage maybe? That way you’re still in the industry. And can still give insights?
All the best Matthew! I have just joined you and you have brought me so much comfort in these beginning stages so thank you for sharing your journey and knowledge with us all! I hope you enjoy the next chapter and all it has to offer! Enjoy expanding on all your other interests! :)
wow, thank you for sharing this with us. first of all you are not alone in this world with this problem. this is also why I found this channel ;)

You have hit the nail on the head 👏🏻
I wish you well for the future. Thank you I have enjoyed your videos
I've enjoyed the ride even though I'll never crew. Good luck!
Good to see you doing a new video. Speak soon mate

Thanks a million!
Hello Alex. Thank you for sharing this. Your story is a great help to anyone interested in yachting as a career.
@@WorkonaSuperyacht Everything is not so bad, because here I met you and I am very glad about it.

hello Mathew I am not going anywhere you set up a new channel i will follow you there !!! here's my first thought set up a school or yachting university to teach the new generation of yacht kids well that's what i call them you would make a great mentor !!! or perhaps do the yachting thing from the business end setting up charters etc. just a couple of thoughts that's all kind regards johnarrow
ps i understand exactly how you feel my friend so hugs and you got this matthew !!!
Hello John, and thank you for the suggestions. Your continued support is greatly appreciated!
Happy birthday
This video has opened a can of worms for me. I’m 30 been a chief officer on numerous 45-55m vessels for the past 2-3 years now and took a long break in winter. About to start the season now on a new gig which I thought I wanted but really I’m not happy, deep down I don’t think I ever have truly been happy in this industry and only the money is what’s kept me going . Trying to find this pay elsewhere isn’t an easy task especially when you’ve been used tax free income for so long.
Dear Matthew,
You are lucky to have been able to start in the yachting industry.
Just like me I’m trying to just get my unlimited to become pilot or tug captain
Hello Matt, so what were the things that really annoyed you at the job? Can you be more specific please?
I don't think there was anything that particularly annoyed me. It was great when I was younger, but the lifestyle just doesn't work for me anymore. Living at work became more tiresome as a grew older, and I wanted to pursue other things.
Can you join a deck Dept on a cruise ship?
Yes, I believe you can; however, I don't have any knowledge of getting started on cruise ships.
God it must’ve been hard to walk away from that chief officer salary without atleast banking two years
Airline pilot? Accountant? Actuary? Attorney? Possible jobs that start with the letter A.
Thank you for the suggestions!
Me considering getting into the industry around 32 after 10 years in a "normal" career and watching this video:....oh no.
There is only so much time on the clock no sense in spending it doing something you dont like doing.
There is always OnlyFans...right?
Sounds to me like he’s burnt out
Hello David, and thank you for commenting. I certainly was at one point. Now I've just got to a point where the lifestyle no longer works for me.
Thank you, Alex. It's been an honour to help you get a start in this industry, and follow on your journey.

Thank you, Layton. I shall be in touch.
Question: you should tell us stuff that you may not have wanted to say before when you were still in the industry. And also how much tips did you make on average for a charter? And how long was the charter? And how many charters did you get on average during a three month season, or whatever? Stuff like that would also be cool.
I thought you sank and went down with the ship. I’m jealous of your girlfriend. Lol
