  • Welcome to Part 2 of our Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy playthrough, where we attend our first Defense Against the Dark Arts class. This pivotal moment introduces players to vital combat mechanics and spells that will be essential throughout the game. The lesson takes place in the imposing Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, located in one of Hogwarts' iconic towers.
As the class begins, we meet our professor, Dinah Hecat, a seasoned Auror with extensive experience in dueling and dark magic. Professor Hecat wastes no time, diving straight into the fundamentals of defense against dark forces. She emphasizes the importance of preparedness, quick thinking, and mastery of defensive spells.
Our first task is to learn Levioso, a Levitation Charm designed to disarm and incapacitate opponents by lifting them into the air, rendering them vulnerable. Professor Hecat demonstrates the spell, explaining how it can be used to counter physical attacks and disrupt enemies’ offensive maneuvers. We then practice casting Levioso on a training dummy, perfecting our control over the spell.
Once we’ve grasped the basics of Levioso, Professor Hecat encourages us to engage in a friendly duel to test our skills. In this challenge, we face off against a fellow student, Sebastian Sallow, a confident and skilled Slytherin with a reputation for excelling in dueling. This duel serves as a perfect opportunity to apply what we've learned in a live combat scenario.
During the duel, we’re introduced to the mechanics of combining spells, such as using Levioso to lift Sebastian off the ground, followed by Basic Cast to attack while he’s defenseless. The duel emphasizes the importance of timing and spell combinations, showcasing how different spells work together for maximum effect. We must also defend ourselves by casting Protego, a Shield Charm, to block incoming attacks and trigger Stupefy for counter-attacks.
As the duel progresses, the pacing quickens, and the excitement of combat becomes apparent. Once we successfully defeat Sebastian, Professor Hecat praises our performance and reminds the class that dueling is not just about offense but also strategic thinking and defense. She reinforces the idea that learning to anticipate an opponent's moves is key to mastering the art of defense against dark forces.
After class, we have the opportunity to speak with Sebastian. He’s impressed by our abilities and invites us to join a secret dueling club where students practice and perfect their combat skills away from the watchful eyes of professors. This club promises exciting challenges and the chance to develop our dueling prowess even further.
As the class concludes, we leave with a newfound understanding of defensive spells and combat strategy. With the basics of dueling under our belt, we’re better prepared for the dangers that lie ahead in the wizarding world.
