Thank you, Dr. Rajani! I'm addicted to sparkling water! I drink tons of it, so I'm getting a whole lot more water than I used to before I discovered it. I've also lost 20 pounds. Before I started drinking it, I read that your body treats it just like flat water, so it's definitely a plus for me. Before, I'd drink a ton of Diet Coke (which is SO bad for you in so many ways), and hardly any water at all, so that would lead to dehydration. But then I quit cold turkey and switched to Bubly and LaCroix. So glad I did!
They reduced the 12 pack to 8 pack, but increased the price by 30%, practically across the board with all brands at the grocery stores. Much as I like sparkling water with some fruit juice, I will go back to plain water thanks. Now that’s a tradition that goes back a few millennia
Depending on the part of the country you can usually find a less expensive option including the store brands at supermarkets. In the Northeast we have Adirondack that’s equivalent or less than store brands and tastes better. As to the Sodastream, what do you do with the empty CO2 cartridges. I couldn’t recycle them. It’s easier to recycle the plastic bottles. In the long run I drink more bubbly water than I do flat water.
I'm lucky I live in Italy. Here bottled water is just mineral water. Still or fizzy (sparkling). Water does not come in cans. We don't have all the junk you get in the US and Canada 😮
I wish Canada would take some pointers from Italy. However, Canada and the USA are sellouts. They care more about money from corrupt corporations than the health of their citizens. However, I think the USA is a bit worse even though most of our food comes from them. At least we don't have Bill Gates buying up our farmland and pushing vegan lab-made products of no nutritional value whilst pushing depopulation.
Seltzer water such as Perrier settle my stomach better than just plain bottled water.I have to have soda water daily for my gut to feel well.Thank you so much Dr .for spotlighting this product today!
A 12 oz can of regular COKE is 39 grams of sugar. 6 grams more sugar than Pellegrino's flavored drinks. Clearly regular soft drinks are NOT good for you. And one must brush their teeth after drinking it. I mostly drink "cold flat water". But when my stomach is upset I get instant relief with an occational can of COKE or Pepsi. I also have a disorder where my throat constricts so much that a small bite of food gets stuck{lodged}in my throat. Usually people panic which makes it worse. But I've learned to stay calm, pop a can of coke and sip it, while standing up. The carbonation helps break up the stuck bite of food and my throat relaxes Regardless, even though soda is 6 grams more sugar, I can actually drink the stuff. Unlike the low cal.flavored sparkling waters!😝 {{ModerationIsKey}}}
Hey Doc have you ever thought about all the work you have had done has affected your throat??? Botox, fillers, ECT........ Read that these can affect swallowing! Just a thought!
I used to have chronic nocturia , got up 3-5 times a night to urinate. Tried everything , mainly prostate supplements , did not help. I used to drink a large bottle of the no-cal , flavored sparkling water everyday , I thought I would try cutting this out. It's been about one month and like magic my problem is solved , I rarely get up at all to urinate even once a night. I figure the carbonation must have been irritating my bladder.
I definitely have a bladder which is irritated by sparkling water, especially Perrier. I am female. It makes no sense as you would think by the time it gets there the carbonation would be gone. But one small bottle of Perrier and I have to have a course of Uva Ursi. It's bizarre.
There were studies on rats and humans showing that drinking carbonated water increased levels of ghrelin, which increases appetite. Regardless, carbonated water without sugar is still a far better option than traditional soda!

@@kokolatte825 No I contacted Soda Stream and no PFAs. They're a forever chemical bc they don't break down in our bodies or the environment. I copied this from an article by the Harvard School of Public Health.. A group of chemicals known as perfluoroalkyl substances, or PFASs-used in everything from carpets to nonstick cookware to firefighting foams-may pose much greater health risks than previously thought. A recent review from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlines a host of health effects associated with PFAS exposure, including cancer, liver damage, decreased fertility, and increased risk of asthma and thyroid disease.
I started off drinking Bubbly a few years ago to stop drinking Soda due to being diabetic. But Bubbly has been raising their prices due to costs of metals going up. Been drinking Sparkling Ice a lot lately. You mentioned them in your intro, but didn't go over them in details (same with Bubbly). I'll have to try plain sparkling water (and also with the POM).
Honestly, my family is from Denmark in northern Europe where Danish Water...yes...this is what it is called (Dansk Vand) has been a part of the diet for more than 100 years. So....I grew up on club soda...not seltzer...club soda and I still drink it daily. Never had a cavity tho.😅 Drink club soda bcuz it is infused with magnesium and potassium. Great source for these nutrients coming from Scandinavia with shortened growing seasons due to proximity to the north pole. I would be miserable without it.
I drink mountain spring sparkling water Spring water is rich in minerals such as calcium and magnesium, which can contribute to good health. Calcium, for example, helps build and maintain strong bones and teeth. It also plays a role in muscle contraction, blood clotting, and nerve function.
Thanks, Dr. Rajani! I was a fan of La Croix drinks until I learned that ingesting aluminum could be a possible cause of peripheral neuropathy and that drinking out of aluminium cans was a bad idea. A fan of S. Pellegrino, I immediately returned to it and will now add the pomegranate juice❣️
Love your videos Doctor Rajani. You did not mention the "Soda Stream" apparatus that makes your own filtered water into soda/carbonated water.. Its very economic and saves plastic and glass also. I've had mine over 10 years now.
@@sparrsheilaI use a soda siphon and CO2 cartridges, and it's very carbonated (and of course, you can use more or less water per charge to change the carbonation. I carbonate a couple tall Yeti's-worth per cartridge, I think.)

Man thank you for the video. You’ve spent a decent amount of time paying attention to this, obviously. This world is about 95% BAD food/drink, so learning about decent ones is helpful. Thanks again.
Ty for mentioning pH and teeth. The best time for carbonated drinks is with a meal because of increased salivary flow that will buffer acid. Worst is sipping all day for teeth. Don't brush right away have water first.
Dr. Rajani, Im so thrilled you did this video. I absolutely am a sparkling water fan, too! My faves are Mineragua, TopoChico, Gerolsteiner (Germany): very high in Silica btw! We just make sure we use a glass or silicone straw to drink the slightly acidic waters. Thank you for your phenomenal and insightful information we can act on. I love your videos!
Great video! Every evening I make my favorite mock tail: 1/2 lemon squeezed, 1/2 lime squeezed mixed with a small amount of stevia then add 1/4 cup of either Pom juice, wild blueberry juice or grape juice add pelligrino about 1/3 bottle. Very delicious! Make sure to use a large wine glass and cold pelligrino. I have this with dinner and I feel really good. No artificial ingredients.
No artificial ingredients? What do you mean by artificial? You think Stevia occurs in nature? You think that the additives/preservatives in non-fresh juices are natural?
I thought everyone knew San Pellegrino Arancita, Limonata, etc were just soda essentially. I’m good for one a month. Their Momenti product is superior if you want something more often. About 35 calories and 7 grams of sugar. I have a couple a week. It’s a nice treat but I do actually like water.
Thank you, Dr. Rajani!!!! I have tried flavored Perrier and Bubly, and I *hate* them both. Without sugar, the fruit flavor is barely enough to offset the soda water taste, which I can't stand. I will try the pomegranate blend with soda water and see if that is better. I do like Pom, even if it's kinda expensive.
Love love this video! The only issue I had was when you mentioned adding lemon slices to the soda water.. that definitely makes it way more acidic and can cause tooth decay (dental hygienist here.. sorry!). This was very informative and I appreciate it so very much!
That’s incorrect. MSG must be on the label per the FDA. Some people are allergic to it. Why would msg be put in anything sweet? Natural flavors must come from plants or animals. They cannot be derived from chemicals. Look it up.
I have always problem with carbonated drinks and with Kaffein . My body never tolerate . Now I am ulcerative colitis patient . It’s highly prohibited .
I enjoyed this segment Dr. Rajani! I'm European and I grew up on carbonated water since I was a child. Like you, I have been diluting all fruit juices with carbonated water and love it!!!! Doesn't make drinking still water so boring 🤪
Doc, thank you for your content. I used to drink the POM pomegranate juice frequently with soda water and somehow forgot about it. I do drink Pellegrino but I love plain water as well.
CO2 isn’t a waste product! We measure it in blood panels, if too low, a person could be in acidosis. The lungs and kidneys regulate CO2 in our blood. If too high or low it is severely dangerous. Mouth breathers have lower CO2 levels (bicarbonate) which contributes to many chronic health issues including cancer. Adding some bicarbonate to a glass of water would help and or drinking carbonated water.
I think nothing but 0% sugar soda water and diet soda. I'm on Keto and one meal a day plan. Both types of drinks to me are safe and gives me that full feeling.
I’m starting down the path of making lemonade without sugar with a major inclusion of finely chopped fresh mint after having fallen in love with an $8 food truck version made with sugar. And thank you for your pronunciation of “LaCroix” - have never understood why people say “LaCroy” though I have no idea how the makers intend it be pronounced 😂.
The company said that the name is pronounced "la-croy," and is named after the St Croix river in Wisconsin. They also helpfully mention that 'la-croy' "rhymes with enjoy". 😊❤
The makers intend la croy, because it is named after the st croix river in Wisconsin. In the Midwestern US, croix in French derived toponymes is universally pronounced croy. Grating for French speakers, but as a bilingual I could find it equally irritating when French speakers also butcher English pronunciation in English loan words, but I don’t because, hey, that’s just how language works. I am capable of pronouncing tortilla with Spanish phonemes, and spaghetti with Italian ones, but I feel no need to code switch like that, since those words are fully incorporated into English now, with English pronunciation, it’s just fine. Even with French words, like croissant, I never pronounce it in French when speaking English, but when speaking French I always pronounce it correctly lol. It’s not a big deal.
Thank Goodness. La Croix is the ones my husband and I drink alot. I quit sugary sodas years ago but Ive recently occasionally have had a sprite or Starry but not every day.. I have quit caffeine so I dont drink dark sodas and only drink decaf coffee or tea.

I e been brewing my own Kombucha, digestive reasons and for replacing beer or soda. I make Kombucha at home, I have SCOBY that is 3 years old and I make 2.5 gallons at a time. Second fermentation is where I regulate just how carbonated I want it. I also add flavor during second fermentation, currently making mango flavor by placing 4 chunks of mango in each bottle
Great video! I started drinking carbonated water when I lived in Europe back in 2004. I've never turned back. However, I've never liked those flavored versions with sugar alternatives, defeating the purpose.
I suggested seltzers and mineral water to my patients who had metabolic dysfunction or needed to loose weight. Additionally, there are some flavored with real juice that only have 10-20 calories which are delicious
I used to actually hate still-water but I tried adding lemon, honey and ginger to it and I loved it. So I've been drinking it addictively for the past 6 years. Hmmmm!😋
Many of the flavored waters that are low calorie or no calorie are very low on the ph scale. This increases erosion, decay and tooth loss. It doesn’t matter if we brush afterwards, the demineralization damage has already set in. The same issues can occur with acid reflux and xerostomia. Plain water with a basic ph is best.
It would seem to me, if you do t care for still water, then sparkling waters would be a great alternative to cola and other harmful products. That said, I don’t recommend club soda due to the potassium and added sodium
Only buy in glass. Getting harder to find but gerolsteiner is my fave. My health food store also sells pomegranate juice in glass jugs instead of pom that is in plastic
Great video! We were able to keep our family healthy using sparkling water & staying away from soda. The DIET sodas are almost WORSE because they have MORE CHEMICALS that they dont have to LEGALLY put on their labels or INGREDIENTS list & they can INCREASE YOUR APPETITE! We use different flavored sparkling waters to make ice cream floats too! They're so much tastier because they're not ovetly SWEET & make the float taste more RESFRESHING too. ❤🍨
I love soda water. I don't have it every day but sometimes you just need that fizz. I drink only water mostly. But I noticed years ago that the thing I liked about cola was the fizz. I stopped drinking it because of the sugar. Now I prefer just plain soda water. So much better than sweet or diet sodas. Once you get used to no sugar, you feel so much better.
Thanks for this video doc! I've used soda water to replace my coke/pepsi addiction. It was easy, and it still feels like I'm having a treat. I'm going to try adding the pomegranate juice, great idea!
I use carbonated water to make magnesium water, very absorbable form of magnesium bicarbonate, using magnesium hydroxide powder, about 1/2 tsp/1 liter. Recipes online. I take a sip in the morning and evening. Too much will give you "loose stools".

I love grapefruit, but the grapefruit flavored soda waters are awful. So, I buy plain sparkling water, squeeze half a grapefruit, pulp and all in and add a little bit of Redmon's salt. Yum
So, I figured I would just make my own. I buy seltzer water, not tonic nor club sodas because they have additives that act like salt and make me retain water. So, it is only water and carbonation. I juice a half of a lemon or lime, or mix the two, and put it in my glass. Then I give it a big squirt of liquid stevia (about 2 seconds), add ice cubes, and fill up with the seltzer water. Basically nearly 0 calories but watch out the fruit does have some carbs and more than you think. I found half a lime is about 2-3 carbs, so be careful if you are on Keto.
Carbonated “Liquid Death” branded water is actually alkaline, I believe it is either 7.5 or 8, and that’s what I frequently drink. Nothing unnatural in it. For reference, it’s called Liquid Death because it “kills” thirst and also it’s canned, so it “kills” plastic pollution.
I have been drinking almost nothing but selzer water and coffee for 5 years, my teeth don't seem to have gotten substantially worse. It replaced alcohol for me, so i got some health gains from no longer drinking poison, i also lost about 50lbs and the only food change i made was to eat a LOT less wheat/pasta products, when i also gave up beer.
Yup, it’s hard to even find 12 packs now. Kroger has 12 packs that are decently priced but everywhere else it’s pretty much just 8 packs.
Yep that is what stopped me from buying Bubly. I was like these prices are getting crazy.
Make your own with a sodastream or equivalent. You can add your own flavor
There’s some place you can get those for a fraction of what some people sell for..
I am hopelessly addicted to plain seltzer water! No salt, no sugar, no favors. Just plain seltzer. I love it.
I'm lucky I live in Italy. Here bottled water is just mineral water. Still or fizzy (sparkling). Water does not come in cans.

A 12 oz can of regular COKE is 39 grams of sugar. 6 grams more sugar than Pellegrino's flavored drinks.
Clearly regular soft drinks are NOT good for you. And one must brush their teeth after drinking it.
I mostly drink "cold flat water". But when my stomach is upset I get instant relief with an occational can of COKE or Pepsi.
I also have a disorder where my throat constricts so much that a small bite of food gets stuck{lodged}in my throat. Usually people panic which makes it worse. But I've learned to stay calm, pop a can of coke and sip it, while standing up.
The carbonation helps break up the stuck bite of food and my throat relaxes
Regardless, even though soda is 6 grams more sugar, I can actually drink the stuff. Unlike the low cal.flavored sparkling waters!😝

It's bizarre.
been drinking Perrier 2 years, doesnt effect my 70 yr old bladder at night
There were studies on rats and humans showing that drinking carbonated water increased levels of ghrelin, which increases appetite. Regardless, carbonated water without sugar is still a far better option than traditional soda!
It was only done on rats and mice and never humans.
I drink carbonated water with my meals. And no, it doesn't increase the appetite.

Drink club soda bcuz it is infused with magnesium and potassium.

Thanks, Dr. Rajani! I was a fan of La Croix drinks until I learned that ingesting aluminum could be a possible cause of peripheral neuropathy and that drinking out of aluminium cans was a bad idea. A fan of S. Pellegrino, I immediately returned to it and will now add the pomegranate juice❣️
Not that it’s any better, but aluminum cans have a thin layer of plastic lining the inside of the can.
Do you have peripheral neuropathy? Why is this a concern?

Ty for mentioning pH and teeth. The best time for carbonated drinks is with a meal because of increased salivary flow that will buffer acid. Worst is sipping all day for teeth. Don't brush right away have water first.

Im so thrilled you did this video.
Thanks for sharing!! and I appreciae all of your support and kindness.

NATURAL FLAVORS added that is not specified usually is MSG.
Yah that label hides a lot of sins…
That’s incorrect. MSG must be on the label per the FDA. Some people are allergic to it. Why would msg be put in anything sweet? Natural flavors must come from plants or animals. They cannot be derived from chemicals. Look it up.

LaCroix is french and the x is silent... but for English speaking people it might be confusing.
@@amichaels1871Wow, I never would have guessed that was actually the correct pronunciation!

Topo Chico in a glass bottle is like the "Cadillac" of carbonated water.
I suggested seltzers and mineral water to my patients who had metabolic dysfunction or needed to loose weight. Additionally, there are some flavored with real juice that only have 10-20 calories which are delicious

its possible that the pH of your water is off. Great soft water can taste amazing, whereas groundwater not so much.
Me, squeeze in 1/2 a lemon, pinch of stevia, BOOM...lemonade.
Ain't that basically lemonade?🤔
Many of the flavored waters that are low calorie or no calorie are very low on the ph scale. This increases erosion, decay and tooth loss. It doesn’t matter if we brush afterwards, the demineralization damage has already set in. The same issues can occur with acid reflux and xerostomia.
Plain water with a basic ph is best.

Wonderful!
I never liked carbonated beverages. I add a splash of coconut water, lemon, or lime to regular water and it makes it more palatable.
I use carbonated water to make magnesium water, very absorbable form of magnesium bicarbonate, using magnesium hydroxide powder, about 1/2 tsp/1 liter. Recipes online. I take a sip in the morning and evening. Too much will give you "loose stools".
Perrier or San Pellegrino not flavoured are mineral waters
Most of the carbonated waters found in Italy are made from mineral water added with carbon dioxide through a process called carbonation . Virtually all the best-known brands market water in two versions: natural and carbonated. Several also have the "slightly sparkling" version.
Beyond its organoleptic characteristics , which can be more or less pleasant, the bubbles stimulate the taste receptors , thus giving a greater sensation of freshness on the palate. This is why many people find it more refreshing than plain water , even if in reality this effect is only temporary.
If taken before a meal, carbonated water helps dilate the gastric walls and reduce appetite . If sipped during meals, the dilation of the stomach walls stimulates the secretion of gastric juices .
But is sparkling water good for health ? Does it have contraindications perhaps for those suffering from some particular pathology? Even on this issue, ideas are often confused and discordant, so we turned to an expert, Dr. Mariangela Rucco , Nutritionist Biologist at Studio Rinaldi in Milan , to remove any doubts.
1. Is drinking still or sparkling water the same?
Both have the same ability to hydrate and have zero caloric intake, therefore the choice of the type of water should fall on your physical and biological needs.
2. Is drinking sparkling water bad for you?
Drinking sparkling water doesn't hurt , much less in those subjects who suffer from low blood pressure or who have difficulty in digestion, since the carbon dioxide it contains stimulates the secretion of gastric juices , facilitating digestion. Above all, sparkling water contains a greater quantity of minerals, in particular: sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium , compared to natural water, therefore it is indicated in those subjects who consume few minerals with their diet.
3. Does carbonated water have any contraindications?
Yes, carbonated water has contraindications for all those who suffer from stomach acid , gastroesophageal reflux , gastritis and gastric ulcers , but it is also true that, on the other hand, it is safer than natural water because the added carbon dioxide it is able to limit bacterial replication .
4. What disturbances could it cause?
Due to the high carbon dioxide content, sparkling water can cause gastric dilatation and abdominal swelling , especially in people who already suffer from it.
Thank you Dr. Rajani, definitely gonna try your recipe👍
Enjoy. I have been able to reduce alcohol and wine for my patients by substituting this in their after work program.
I like to add cherry juice with a splash of lime. It very refreshing.
I drink 9.0 water. I love alkaline water.
I was only drinking maybe one soda a day or less, so i guess that's gone too.
Have started to drink sparkling water with lemon slices after being diagnosed with cancer, so gave up Alcohol and fizzy drinks ,this really has helped as i don't like plain water ,i also do green tea and fruit teas ,have them cold helps to keep hydrated
