sam has some of the best tutorials on strength project! he's always extremely calm and collected, and brings each move into perspective very nicely! nice work!
So many people have been asking because of my planche progress series that I cut short... Wrist pain so I had to stop :/... But i've been healed up for a few months now, probably the longest I've gone without wrist/hand pain. Now that I have Sams routines to follow, I'll be posting my planche progress (I've never done a planche)
I'm starting on my quest to learn how to planche. This video is great. I'm literally on the first exercise, where I bunch my knees to my chest and back down again with straight arms. I'm already feeling the muscle memory - slowly but surely. Brilliant tutorial.
I have exactly the same thing Arash.. From handstand and planche attempts... My wrist hurts 2-3 weeks now... I ve heard there's not much u can do to avoid wrist pain besides warmin it up n stretchin it.. But a 3-4 min video about wrist pain, exercises to do before planches or handstands or exercises to do if it hurts and wrist stretches and so on, would be awesome!! (Im sure I know lots of people who would totally like that video :P )
Hello there, mr. Sam!I'm into bodybuilding about an year by now , made quiet awesome progress!I'm totally strict to my weight training , cardio , diet and whey protein powder .I really want to start learning now such effective and complicated things that require such balance and functional strenght and I really want to learn that planche ! Starting those awesome exercises now , will let you know how it's going ! I've got all the strenght , however it will be just technique to learn it !
Thanks, this really helps. I've being working on push-ups and pseudo planches from the floor for awhile, but now I think I'll start doing that exercise with the stools and the chair.
The only thing left is for you to show us how to build those planche supports shown in the first video... and BTW this is the best planche tutorial out in youtube! :D
soo good! all tutorials ive been watching were about build up strength.... but to build up such muscel memory is brilliant. thank you so much! to often i have to give up my training because it doesnt work. But know i realy think i could keep the right position! thanks :D
I've been dealing with wrist pain as well, iron mind grippers are great wrist exercises and help to develop the flexors and extensors to improve wrist strength and hopefully reduce pain.
One thing that I've done when experiencing wrist pain is doing the planche exercises (and other pushing exercises) on my fingers, that takes a lot of the strain away from the wrists, that of course provided you've got the finger and forearm strength to pull it off. Doing it on your knuckles also works but it's hard to find stability and balance when doing the planche on your knuckles cause the area in contact with the floor is smaller, one good thing is that it helps strengthen your wrists.
Great videos man, been working on your other ones. Locking the arms out is crucial for the planche. Can do bent arm ones, but they aren't quite the same.
great video as always , thanx you guys , i'll incorporate those exercices in my workouts :) That was exactly what i was hoping , how to work on straight arms ! (sorry for my english ^^)
i work out everyday so im in pretty good shape. i just got on the ground and tried the second exercise and could barley do it. im like sore as hell after doing one set of ten. great video im going to start doing these exercises and see where they get me in a week
Great video! However, looking at the muscles from a personal experience and kinesiology perspective, I would like to point out some important things: Anterior deltoid is extremely important, as you pointed out, however, the biceps is just as important in this movement. The long head of the biceps actually crosses over the shoulder joint and aids in shoulder flexion even though we don't typically think of it that way. Its very important to strengthen this muscle in order to achieve the planche. Additionally, the latissimus dorsi is only a synergist in this movement pattern, acting to cancel out the outward force (abduction) of the deltoid, so its actually not as vital as one might expect. I would put chest, specifically pectoralis major clavicular head much higher on the list of importance than the lat, as this muscle aids in shoulder extension, which is the main movement that supports this lever. All your exercises are spot on, I just thought the muscles being worked needed some fleshing out :)
you can put your feet on the end of the bed and go forward with your hands and find the right spot for the planche atleast that what i used to learn the planch
I dont understand.. Lately all the new videos have been getting dislikes minutes after upload, then it stops.... But its all good, as long as you guys like the videos :)
I can't hold the tucked plance very well mostly as not only I need to focus on keeping my body in the air, but also to prevent my arms from bending. I'm not really that flexible, when I straighten my arms you can even see that they are not exactly straight. I wasn't even able before to do a bent arm lever on the ground because my wrist just could not rotate that much, but a lot of wrist stretching helped. My L-sit is also a pain in the ass, but doing a lot of pistol squats helped to extend them by using more force last month ago I was only able to do 1 or 2 if I was lucky pistol squats, but now I can rep out 6+ on each leg so it helped a lot. Still my main goal remains to not only do a tucked planche, but to do a full planche.
Love the organic approach (low-tech equipment) to practicing. You present well too. How long would it take (for a fit person/dancer) to accomplish the plange?
There's always a know it all on every video.... thanks strength project for your tips I can do a handstand into a handstand press now I can only do one press finding it hard to maintain my balance in the handstand position though so I'm still practicing them before I move on to the ''Planche" ← correct spelling there by the way :) thanks guys
nice video:) thank you very much..ive been trying to get my frogstand to handstand.. i have actually done it a couple of times, but my left elbow started hurting after a while..what can i do about this?(on this channel is a video of me doing the move..no secret commercial for my channel or anything..i dont really care about subs on this channel:P) thanks again:)
Any tips on increasing wrist flexibility? I find i cant get my body weight over my hands as they just don't bend... Any tips/trick would be much appreciated! Thanks.
Thanks for differnet perspective on planche training. Your videos are always top notch. I noticed your hand placement is much further apart than mine. I realise by keeping them about 2 foot apart makes it pretty hard. Perhaps it's a good way to approach the training? Can you please check out my video (only got one out) and give me feedback. Perhaps even a suggestion on a progression. Also, will you ever tour Australia? :)
greater exercises ive been able to hold the planche with arms extended in the 'up' position or in the down position but i just cant seem to alternate with pushups.
Hi Sam I currently following stronglift 5x5 program workout, can i integral your planche workout into my program? if yes, how often should i do within a week? I lift on monday, tuesday and friday.
I do planche training, i've been doing it for a few months and i have a straddle planche/full but w/ bended arms, recently i don't know how but i lost alot of flexibility in my wrist and it hurts to bend it to far, is there an exercise to work out of this and could you take a guess at what i did? It's really frustrating because i have to put my training on hold. Thank you.
great tutorial, when i tried the chair thing, there was a wierd pushing in my right shoulder blade? do you have something like that going on or is that wierd?
Nice video, Sam. I keep doing planche lean and tucked planche, but my biggest problem is that I cant elevate my hips. Is my lower back weak or my shoulders are still not strong enough?
Hey Sam. I can hold easily 60 sec. frog stand, but I have trouble with the tucked planche. I'm sure I have the necessary strength in my arms to hold it, but the balance in the wrists is the problem for me. I keep falling forward when using the hand placement you're using in the video (fingers pointing sideways) and when I try to use normal hand placement (fingers pointing forward) it's harder to maintain control over my elbows. (I have to do it only on my fingers and it's really hard). Help!
sam has some of the best tutorials on strength project! he's always extremely calm and collected, and brings each move into perspective very nicely! nice work!
This channel has really been a great help for me recently.
Thank you all for your work and keep doing it.

great tutorial, so easy to burn out wrists learning planche. nice to hear someone focussing on form over exertion

Nice video, Sam. I keep doing planche lean and tucked planche, but my biggest problem is that I cant elevate my hips. Is my lower back weak or my shoulders are still not strong enough?
Sam is so awesome, please tell him that!
It sucks having a broken arm =/, can't do this stuff right now...
Your the best thanks
THANKS FROM UKRAINE!!! ))
Does the wrist flexibility come with time and training? When I try these exercises, it puts tremendous strain on my wrist.
this guy is boss
Its pronounced however you want it.... So many different ways
how many times per week should i do a planche training?
I was thinking of starting more callisthenics, but is it bad for my wrists?

Is there any way to prepare my elbows for how much pressure is on them?
How OFTEN should I do the exercises? Once per week? Twice per week?
I'm afraid if I train planche every day, I will over train shoulders...
i wonder , how long did it take you to do this ????????
what exercises should I do in order to get strength enough to do at least 1sec tuck planche?
Im experiencing wrist pain while attempting the exercises. any help?
