Been flailing at the 130 at the Territorials for many moons. The "Hawken" match, same 100 yd 7 ring. Usually Sometimes actually get 2 hits, usually 1 or...None! 'Ol Tim Murphy need not fear me. Fun video.
that was an awesome little podcast of long range flintlocking. I too enjoy long range front-stuffing out to 200 yards over in Lebo Kansas. SAYS THIS Child from the across border ruffian state of Missouri....
With my .40 Kibler (55gr fff swiss, .020 wonderlube patch, .395 92gr rb) zeroed for 50 yards, hits about six inches low at 100 yards. My third six shot group I did at 100 was within a 3x5" index card. They are definitely more accurate than most people realize.
There is nothing like a laid back friendly shoot. You have the right rifle for this kind of shooting, I have the very same Kibler. Just keep on practicing and working up loads and you will be able to make some very impressive shots in time. This was a very nice video.
I wish we had matches like that locally. I have a Traditions Kentucky Rifle, and I don't know why or how, but that gun out to 125 yards which is the farthest you can shoot at my range, will hit consistently inside the center area of a man sized silhouette offhand at that distance. For an entry level under $500 flintlock, it really has shocked me at how good that gun can shoot and I would love to try it out at a match like this, if he had any around here.
Maybe it's time to raise your powder charge if you want to compete at these ranges? You might want to consider making a competition rifle. The low sights of antique rifles were fine for shooting game in leafy forests, but they are not good for target shooting.
Shooting 100 yds with my .50 Tennessee with my hunting load of 70g fffg sighted in at 50 yds the ball drops right at 4 inches. At 130 I would probably double that hold over 😊
Your ignition time seemed really slow in comparison, maybe something to work on that'd help you out! I'd love to see a video on lock time to ignition, what affects it, etc.
Well....I gotta say for the first time you look taller in your video lol.....you'll figure out the right load for your rifle @ 130 yds....you got a starting point now....by next fall shoot you'll give Bill & Chuck a run for their money....
Man those two guys flintlocks sound like cap locks when they fire! Super fast ignition speeds!
I noticed that too!
This looks like a lot of fun and I Thank You Kindly for sharing it Ethan. Many Blessings and Good Shootin! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
It was very entertaining to watch you guys shoot the ol way. Never shot a flintlock before but love watching it. Thanks.

Those ignition speeds are fantastic. I’ve got to try out a kibler one of these days & see if I can shoot it any better than my pedersoli.
You should do more like this Ethen
Oddly, I was impressed with the use of short chunks of vinyl J-channel to hold the targets in place. Genius!
It works great
Looks like great fun! Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

Vwey nice. I'm lucky to hit anything outside fifty yards.
Very entertaining thanks very much.
Haha I love the Redcoat targets.

First thing I noticed was some fast locks!

I hope to be at that level someday. My beginner skills aren't up to competition level yet.
Same here 😅
