Placing 45th of 46 is something I would probably do. As a shooter that has hit only "1" of 18 targets at the Woods Walk shoot ( on video ) at Friendship, I totally get it. The way I look at it is......I love shooting these type guns, hitting a target is just a bonus. Excellent well edited video my friend....

I've been shooting competition for years and for years I would get beat because I couldn't financially afford the rifles everyone else was using. I was showing up to flintlock rifle matches with a Traditions Kentucky because that's what I could afford, and then it turned out that gun was actually more accurate than I thought. This past year my CVA Mountain Rifle got me better than most, allowed to win my first match, it was a gun I completely rebuilt myself, put an L & R lock on it. The gun shoots better than I ever expected a CVA to ever shoot. Recently I stumbled on to a T/C Hawken with a Green Mountain barrel in .40 with a custom sight set up. That gun is my first ever competition gun and I plan on using it to its best effect next season.

Just found your channel and living in Scandinavia I have no acces to American muzzeloaded or longbarreled rifles what so ever.
However, I am a musician, very used to customizing my own basses and guitars, both acoustic and electric, and I just watched your episodes on how to make your rifles have the tiger stripe flamed maple look and also how to make it look old.
Currently putting together my own take on a Stevie Ray Vaughan Fender Stratocaster style guitar for a rootsy bluesrock/Americana party band that I´m putting together and, let me assure, you I´m gonna have it look more than 300 yrs old with the techniques you´ve just shown and taught me.
Subscribed just for that,- and maybe it´s time to learn a little about muzzleloaded flintlocks too.....:)
Greetings from the high North of Europe

Hey Ethan! Well... we ALL want to be SGT. York... hitting a bulls eye EVERY time we send lead down range! But, the cruel reality is... every one has to start somewhere... and you have made a good start! I remember holding my Grand Uncle Brady Meltzer's (One of the NMLRA Founder Members) Chunk Gun when I was a (Much) younger fella... and that .40 Caliber barrel looked like a cannon to me! I have heard stories that when Brady was competing... he would ONLY shoot when Everything... and I mean EVERYTHING was in his favor. If that was in the final seconds of the Match.. then so be it. I remember him telling my Dad that an awful lot of muzzle loading target shooting takes place in the space between the shooter's ears! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
Keep at it and enjoy the journey!

Ethan, I really enjoyed this fine video. I admire your courage in entering this match. You didn't slink away with your rail between legs. I've never fired in a match where somebody didn't finish at the bottom ( I've been there more than a few times myself)❤

I enjoyed your video. I had a similar experience almost 40 years ago. My first black powder gun was a replica Colt Navy 44 cal. I bought it as a kit and did all the fit and finish myself. I was very proud of that gun. I took it to a National Muzzle Loading Association match in South Florida. It was a little over a 2 hour drive. We took a tent and camped out overnight. We were shooting at targets 25 yards away. It was a timed fire and I did not understand why at the time. I was shooting a revolver. They gave us more than plenty of time to shoot then cock and shoot again for 6 shots. I later learned that they had picked which chamber lined up the best with the barrel and were reloading that one chamber after each shot. I was a newbie and not that good. I had fun and learned a lot. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. I left there happy that I had learned a lot. Quite awhile after that I got a package from the sponsoring gun club. Seems there were not that many people shooting in the same class as me. They sent me a medal for 5th place, last place. I still have the medal and that first gun. I will never forget that. I did write them a letter thanking them. They did not have to do what they did. I would have never known about the medal if they had not sent it. I never took part in another match but did learn to hunt with black powder rifles. A lot of good times.

another great video Ethan. I built a rifle a few years back.. well maybe 20 years back, that was an over the log gun copied from an original Carolina target rifle. I shot it a few times but getting down and up is hard on my back and shoulders. May try it in a table match some day. Thanks for sharing this. Looks like you all had a great time. Always good folks at muzzleloading matches. By the way, 45th out of 46 isn't bad. I think I could find a way to come in 47th out of 46.

Love it; makes me think about dragging out two underhammer percussion actions from one of the safes and having a chunk gun built. I've had the actions and the intent to do so for years; other projects, most recently a 500 A-Square dangerous game rifle build. Any idea who a good smith would be? I envision a match grade ( rice?) barrel threaded with quick removal threading for easy cleaning/inspection. Any ideas?

Really enjoying your channel. I want to build 0r buy a Southern Mountain rifle or Poor Boy. I like Kibler kits so far in my research. My problem is getting a Kibler in my safe, I made an analog with bamboo and there is no way at any angle to get it in my safe. About 57" overall will get in the door. Do you have any recommendations ? I do see some of the Italian and Spanish rifles come in a this length.

The matches I shoot. I make a decision.
    I ask the question.
    Am I here to win?
Or am I here to learn?
    Scores to the wind
    Make up your mind.
If there’s anyone giving you crap about this they have not shot a match.

You're shooting a rifle, not a smoothbore? 6oyds? ????? Even though I watched this, I find it hard to believe the size of the group you were shooting! I've shot my own home made 52cal side lock rifle, iron sights, at 50 yds over a front rest and got a three shot clover leaf group. This was witnessed by the RO that day and he just walked away shaking his head! :D There is definitely something wrong with the load you were using. Good luck with the next shoot! Cheers from Downunda! ;)

Can't rightly figure why a good shot like you had such a scatter. That rifle will shoot 2 inch groups all day, right? Didn't see any huge flinches. Ignition looked fast. Usually
real bad accuracy like that is a result of blown patches.

I have been using the “Walker Silencer 2.0” for 11 months now. I’ve used them for videos, work in the machine shop, and while on other firearms ranges.
They are very handy and covert. I like the buds because they don’t cause a build up of sweat in the summer.
The sound activated muffling is great for muzzleloaders, I’ve never had it miss a shot and forget to turn off incoming sound. I also like that it allows me to hear people talking around me.
What I don’t like is the lack of a windscreen over the microphone, wind noise is insanely irritating. I’ll be adding my own soon. Battery life is fine for me, but you have to really make sure the buds are charging when you put them back into the case. 3/10 times or so the buds don’t engage the charger like they should because the rubber wing is misaligned.
The Bluetooth to my phone for music or radio isn’t really needed by me, but I’ve used it some while mowing and it’s nice, but I think it slows down the boot up time for the buds.
The touch controls can be finicky, especially if you have calloused hands.
Overall, they aren’t perfect, but I’ve not regretted purchasing them, they are my go to eat protection and will be until better tech becomes more affordable.
