- No light up coin doors? No problem! Here’s the cheapest way to light up those coin doors and it’s simple! Special shout out to @thumpersquid & @KongsRUs
Here’s a link for the LED strips I bought or you can find these pretty much anywhere, along with Bee’s video that really helped me with my mod below.

• Arcade1Up Lit Coin Doo...
I just want to say a big THANK YOU to Phil for staying true to what he's all about. It's guys like him that keep me going and interested in the hobby.
Stokjock you’re the Best :) Thank you so much my friend 👊
Great idea! I ended up using two flat LED lights from IKEA that were a couple bucks each and plugged them into a 3-1 usb splitter plugged into the PCB. Since the IKEA lights cords were very tiny, I didn’t have to drill anything and was able to position each light behind each coin door. It’s a shame Arcade1up can’t make these light up to begin with.
Hopefully they will next year, I’m going to take it a lot better now because it’s so much easier than I thought but yes going forward it’s a must :)
If you look closely at the LED strip, you'll see points where there are 6 solder pads, 3 next to 3, with a dotted line, and scissors between the solder pads. You can cut the LED strips so you only have the short length of strip just for the coin door lights. Next, just solder a power lead to the free end of the strip and solder pads. You'll have your clean lighting installation. Thanks for sharing this tip. :)
Thank you Thomas, I’ll try this out on my next one :)
Looks great. They make a big difference and help bring each cab to life, along with Szabos marquees. I already did the Retro530 and love them, but there are two cabs I never got to yet. Good content as always Phil.
Thank you Eric! I’m looking forward to my Szabo’s marquees :)
This is genius Phil. This is a great alternative. What a difference it makes with light up coin doors. Also a great tutorial to go with it. 👊🏼.
Thank you Julio 👊
Looks great, Phil! And yes, I think you can cut off the end as much as you need, following the little cut lines that are on the strip.
Thank you Andy :)
Awesome Phill! It looks great!!
Thank you Thumper Squid!! It was all you man 👊
Great Mod Philo, makes a huge difference. You can cut the led strips and my remotes work with the other leg lights in my experience. Angel is recovering nicely, she is a tough cookie, just trying to keep her from jumping all over the place.
Thank you CarlO, I’ll cut on my next ones :) Thank you for keeping me posted about Angel 🐈⬛ she can’t wait to get back at it again :)
Yes you can cut the LED strips.
Where you see those stripes in the LED strip that you can cut down the middle and you can then wire up the next section.
You will of course need a power supply which most strips are 12V but should say on the strip what the voltage is and if RGB what wire to put were.
Thank you 👊
With the prices of these arcade1up’s you would think this would already be default included in these cabs. But it’s nice to see how easy DIY it is. Thanks Phil
Hey Mikey, I agree these should all come lit from here on out. Not expensive on their end at all, maybe in 2025 :)
Thanks Phil! This is one of my favorite of your videos as I have about 15 cabs to do this to. I’ve been putting it off forever because I always thought it was gonna be a pain in the ass
Thank you Smokade, I had a lot of fun doing this and it’s so inexpensive:) perfect for the both of us I probably have 15 also lol
That Turtles cab looks sick with the lit coin doors
I can’t wait to get the rest of the 4 players lit up, Turtles stands out great :)
Awesome tutorial, Phil! I may still go with the Retro530 kit myself, but this is definitely a great alternative - especially for the budget conscious!
Retro530 is the absolute best way, I just have too many to do :)
This is BRILLIANT!!!
Thanks Phil (and Bee)
Love the wrist band by the way … I always keep mine on long after I leave whatever event I go too as well
I have a hard time cutting them off :) still wearing it Ted Adam 👊
Thanks! Got this done today in like 10 min. Makes a huge difference.
Awesome!
Very nice! Yeah I get mine at Menards for 4.88 plus tax. Like you said it adds up fast especially when you have 45 1ups lol. Keep kicking a$$ man! Heard anything more about Smashtv or track and field? I know golden tee deluxe is on preorder at Best Buy but we need something new!!!! lol
We might be getting both this year, I’ll get into it on Mondays w&t :) dude Menards and 5 below, great call :) 45 1ups!!
Great info, I used a set of red cheap led lights of temu, 1.99, with usb wire, no on off no colour change, then I cut them down, drilled 1 hole, then put them through, and stuck on the front of cab, marking as you did, where they should be in relation the slots, then just plugged into the cabs usb port, bingo cab on door lights, then I cut 2 more sets & used old usb cables cut down and soldered to the lights for the other 2 cabs. have enough for more cabs later. total cost £1.99 :)
That’s awesome!
Great job, Phil. It looks awesome.
Thanks Jesse!
Incredible guide as always, definitely going to do this to my Dragons Lair
Thank you Hootz, you’ll love it man!
I just put coin door lights in Dragon’s Lair and Joust but I used the dual coin lighting kit from DIY Retro. Cost me about $10 per cab with bulbs and super simple to install.
That’s not a bad price either! Did the pcb show up?
@@PDX7yes it did! Thanks again Phil! You the man!
@decadentdave Thank you my friend 👊
I just finished cutting the panel on Simpsons to fit 2 of the stock Arcade1up lit coin doors. Would have been easier to drill a small hole and wire my own leds like this.
I never knew how to get these to show until now lol next time either of us mod we got it now :)
PD you can cut the excess with no problem, I’ve done it to several of mine
Awesome, Thank you Stunt Man :) I wasn’t 100% sure.
I 2nd that, no issues cutting it
If you cut the LED strip, you have to cut it where the copper is. Never leave the LED strip rolled up it can burn up. I bought a 1 ft LED strip from Amazon to use in my Dragon's Lair and Blitz.👍
Yes, some LED strips run hot in their default configuration, and can melt the reel and other items around if still rolled up on the reel (ask me how I know). They run the most hot if set to brightest white, so like just red would be 1/3 the power, etc.
Thank you guys :) I have a lot more to do and I’ll feel a lot more comfortable cutting the excess off now. Thank you 👊
Great mod, guess I'm gonna have to do this to my two coin doors, super easy.
Thanks Biggggy! The best :)
That's a cool trick. I'm going to try that. I go a bunch of lEDS lying around.
Gotta be what Joel did with his light up coin doors :)
If we're to do this I'd put the rest of the led tape on the back of the cab. They look cool glowing on the walls
That’s a great idea!
Tape light should have a specific spot that you can as an electrician 👍 for your job, I do a different way, for the money this way worth it well done
Thank you Dave 👊
I used strip lights to light up marquee on a cab from Walmart didn’t think of this trick to use for this too. There’s a 2 pack 6ft $9.99 Amazon. Brand:Ahigh usb rgg led strip lights with remote. Ppl should be able to find it. Or if you link it in your description.
Awesome I’ll look for it man 👊 Now I know how those marquees lit up :)
I wouldn’t cut it because sometimes LED lights go out. This way you have a whole role of replacement lights. Looks like the MVSX is next
Good call Games Plus 👊 Yes MVSX is coming :)
Nice, any recommendations on an entire “fake coin door kit”
I see so many on line, and some look very cheap/plasticy.
Recommendations on a cost effective option?
Thank you in advance
Learned on one of the Cornercade streams that you can order these direct from 1up. 15 non-lighted and 30 for lighted with Y cable. I ordered some last week and just installed one on Tron. Some patience and attention is needed when installing on a cab that didn't come with the doors. Getting the holes drilled and aligned correctly is the hardest part. Would be ideal if it came with a template. Might make one myself since I have more to do.
Awesome I did not know about this if A1up is selling $15 & $30 it’s the cheapest I’ve seen these at. I was going to suggest Retro530 but those might be 45.
Thank you so much for this video! Gonna do this with the simpsons eh! 👍 💯
You’ll absolutely love it! So easy :)
Nice mod
Thanks Kevin :)
Question though… so when u have a spool of lights, how does that work? U have to buy a spool for each cab? Right? Because u need the end with the USB. Also where did u get your lights ?
Yes 1 for each cabinet, 2 packs on Amazon might be cheaper and five below might have these too. Just need to keep track of those remotes :)
Amazon, there’s a link in the description I forgot to mention in the video
You should cut those LEDs apart and solder them. One light per hole.
Yes a lot cleaner look! Thanks for the tip :)
You ever looked I inside your Turtles cab?
I did, I just didn’t want to mess with it :) now I know :)
Hi Phil. So the arcades you have that don't have coin doors, will you buy them and install?
Hi Alex, if those are keepers I will :) but I’m leaving Golden Axe alone :)
@@PDX7 who would you use for coin doors? Retro or arcade 1up?
@pxp751 I was going to go through Retro530, but A1up might be $15
@@PDX7 Yes. Arcade 1 ups are a bit cheaper.
@pxp751 I literally just found out about that, I’m going to pick up a few from them.
instead of damaging the arcade1up... how come up idea double side sticky tape and triple a batteries?
That’s a good idea, someone should come out with this as an option.
i just use 2 red prewired leds
Nice!
Grown-ups with these arcade 1 ups and no children are pathetic. These things are toys for kids, not grown ass men
Do pets count as having kids?
Great hack!
James likes it! lol.
Thank you James 👊 Did you preorder GT today?
