Never knew this series existed . The dropped clock sets the tone , before WW2 . I went to South Bank Polytechnic , Southwark late 60s early 70s . Lodged in places like these gaffs in Battersea , Clapham Common , Ilford and Kingsbury and others . Got my HND mech.eng and lived in the smoke for 25yrs. I loved London then and never had any aggravation at all. Left 1988 to work in Swindon . First job in London , motorcycle dispatch rider and learnt the Knowledge . People then actually looked after one another !. Watching this I am sitting in my Clapham digs 1969 with our landlady Mrs. Niblett . Thanks for this treat . Dave
A huge thank you for this box of delights. The entire cast were marvelous. It was also true to the book apart from Connie's final scene. I still have my old paperback copy of this. I have read it so many times. If only London life was still like this. Blessings to all who love this classic.
Thank you so much for this, I have been wanting to see this again for years. I was gobsmacked to see that Mr Josser was played by Derek Farr, a favourite of mine.
OK, I have to say that I’m not sure if this is based on the movie London belongs to me or if the movie was based on this I’m guessing it’s the movie that was the original because it was in black-and-white but I do enjoy the characters in the series and I just want to thank you again forbringing such great stuff to us
This series and the 1948 film are both based on the original novel (1945) by Norman Collins. This series however sticks more closely to the book. IIRC in the film some characters like Mr Puddy are completely left out.
The actress who plays Connie was actually in ' A Fish Called Wanda' as an elderly lady being targeted by Michael Palin's character who owns a dog. Interesting series only one of the other characters the actor who plays the young man who lives with his Mum Terence Budd who was in Murphy's Mob and also in the Bill and other things. Apparently Trevor Eve is in as well should be interesting.
I goes me to London one day - Pearly Kings and Queens round every corner - Jellied eel sand wiches for me lunch then down the pub an have a sing song - The Lambeth Walk , Knees Up Mother Brown , Roll Out The Barrel - Its gonna be great
My partner has just retired after 35years, and that’s what he got, engraved glasses and a hand shake, something to be said for being on the dole managing on never enough, but having all the time for your family and friends… I think we should have a four day week, to get our kids back on track !

Thanks Dave.
Love reading about people's lives.

You're very welcome.
Binge watching
Have just re-read the book for the third time and didn’t know this film existed-- so pleased it has appeared now!
I've been looking for this for years thanks.
Glad I could help
Have just finished reading the book for the second time and didn’t know it had been filmed. Just appeared on my IPad - what a delight!
At last something to watch over the holidays
Lest the holidays escape, as pythons did to everglades. Keep watch over them!
Fun start to the series..now I'm hooked❤
Oh my god! I have wanted to see this for years!
Didn’t know it was a series, the book is wonderful and also the film. Alastair sim wonderful as usual
very much looking forward to the next episode. Thank you very much!
The book is well worth reading too.
I read the novel by Norman Collins three times and have seen the old movie several times.
Thank you, I enjoyed that it was nice and gentle and easy to watch. 👏🥂
Lovely snap shot of history gone by 🎉
This is awesome 🤩. Thanks 🙏.
You're amazing - IDK where you find these. I've got the book and never knew they made a series. Love seeing Old London. Happy Christmas
Thanks, you too!
bbgunn. There was also a very good feature film made of this wonderful story, which is probably on UA-cam.
Thanks from the USA ,Merry Christmas.
Thank you.
My Mum knew Hugh Leonard growing up in Dalkey. In fact my great grandfather is mentioned in "Home Before Night"..one of Leonard's books.
Thank you for the interesting background storyline
Wow I have never heard of this...I've read the book and seen the film but this looks like it will be a real treat. Thank you!
Oh the good old days when England was England
It still is
Now it's sri lanka?
I had watched this in an older version 😊
Thank you
Based on a great book by Norman Collins.
Thank you 😊
Reminds me of Rationing , enjoying dripping sandwiches.
Seems like yesterday. 😊

The chief villain is played by Inspector Parker in Lord Peter Wimsey 70's version with I. Carmicheal😊
Surely old Parker bird being a villain gosh the horror of it!
What would Bunter say?
Thank you again and merry christmas 😊
Same to you!

LOL unfortunately I think you may be disappointed. If you want to meet the original cockneys you have to go to Clacton on Sea nowadays.
Today Mr Josser would not dare walk down a street in E11 carrying parcels, shame init?
I’m not familiar with this series at all and I happened to be living in London in September 1977. I’ll give it a try. I hope I like it.
Rita loved him aswell ,
What is the rental price? How does one list it? 8 million bdrm available, first, last, cleaning deposit required?
👏🏻👏🏻🥰🥰
London now belongs to Islam episode one.
Why can’t you enjoy it without the casual racism? It’s a good historical programme
Took Spain 700 years to clear itself.
