Yes! Thank you for this, I found the West End Games material to be a valuable gaming resource - a very underrated gaming system in my opinion. I love how this system encouraged unsung rebels to become heroes that would free the galaxy. You could be background characters, or potential saviors that the core group would reference (Han, Leia, Luke, or even the droids). It also had supplemental material to encourage gameplay that might make the civil war a neat background while to players forge their own path. In many ways this aspect pre-dates Firefly. I think this was a great way to introduce people not use to Table-top Role Playing Games to get interested in - it wasn't D&D but it was a familiar world to encourage new people to take a fun chance. And the Imperial Sourcebook is a great read for anyone into the Star Wars Universe - whether you use it as Legends or Canon. For me, the Imperial Sourcebook was not only great for when I ran West End Star Wars campaign - but it was also useful for me as a writer, because when I developed my worlds and NPC, I know how to use various "Characters incorporate this knowledge in . This is a great Vid Eckhart - and now to have you acknowledge my usage of West End Game resources in your way, cool. I remember when I found the Imperial Sourcebook - I purchased two - one for gameplay - but a second one as a collector's item. So glad I have it with me even now.
I love West End Games D6 tabletop system and their SW books (Revised and Expanded 2nd Ed). They used a lot of concept drawings of things that were not the final design (I want to say it was cheaper than getting the permission to use the official designs? But I really don't know for sure). And so I believe the CompForce trooper design in WEG SW books is a concept drawing of stormtroopers.
I've always wondered how many humans there are in the galaxy compared to the various alien species How could the Empire justify their discrimination Then I remember OUR history of discrimination or the colonial governments in Africa where the white minority ruled over the black majority But in those cases, the whites were more technological advanced than the Africans who were basically living in the stone age This applies to other colonized regions of the world as well. People who were of equal technology, never got colonized as far as I know This doesn't apply to the Star Wars Galaxy though as everyone is at the same level of technology as everyone else So how do the humans of their galaxy justify that humans are superior to aliens? I don't understand it
Humans were the first to reverse engineer the Rakata's hyperdrive which allowed them to colonizing much of the galaxy which in turn lead to them forming the Republic. Except for the Hutts almost every major multi-system polity outside of the Unknown Regions as established by Humans. The history of the galaxy is mostly the history of Humans as a result. That is why the Empire was so humanocentric; not the first time this view was prevalent, there was the Pius Dea crusades as well when Star Wars decided it would be really cool to be Warhammer 40K's Empire of Man for a few centuries.
Humans are canonically something like half the galaxy population, they are also a disproportionate portion of the population in the wealthy galactic core.
@@EckhartsLadder Another interesting (and "controversial") question, _was there any discrimination between Human ethnic groups,_ or since Aliens exist Human skin colour is treated like Human hair colour even amongst racist Humans, and even xenophobic Humans still hang out with xenophobic Humans of a different skin colour. And thus Black stormtroopers are completely normal, and everyone having a hissy fit about Finn (even though he's FO, not IMP) are just revealing themselves.
@@yadude_log Director of the ISB after Yularen died, I believe. Edit: I misread your comment. So he's the director of COMPNOR as a whole in the new canon. Where as in Legends he was, I think, head of the ISB Edit 2: Nevermind, he was the head of Imperial Intelligence. Which was considered a rival to the ISB in some ways. I assume that's another name for the Ubicterate (or however you spell it).
I might've glossed over it when I read about them before, but it was a pretty big eye-opener to learn that the training regimen for CompForce was known to kill trainees that failed it. To me the idea that the Empire has a whole organization dedicated to making sure both the regulars and officers of the Empire were enforcing the ideals of the Empire calls to mind this one fan comic project a guy by the name of John Burns was working on. Idk if it was finished, but it had these guys called Imperial Inspectors in it who wore black armor as a big Empire mook of the story. I'd love for CompForce to essentially be like the Imperial Inspectorate. Big badass Imp soldiers who were sent around to ensure that Imperial officers who weren't really doing anything wrong but weren't doing the bare minimum we usually see Imperial officers doing would've been cool. Essentially Inquisitors, but for the rank and file, rather than Jedi.
I reckon that the 'stormtroopers' in the Mandalorian are a mix of compforce and forced conscripts who are wearing the armour. It would explain why they are so bad when disney canon says that they are great shots, and would explain why they work for Gustavo Fring, who upholds very high loyalty standards.
I would love a vid about a specific category of ship and list out a majority of the examples. Such as frigate and list out a bunch of examples such as carrick, nebulon B, ton falk, etc.
The difference between the Ubiquitorate and the ISB is basically the difference Abwehr and the Gestapo. One conduct what’s considered legitimate cloak and dagger operations upon external threats, the other spends almost all of it’s energy conducting the same operations against its own citizens.
Very illuminating. Honour to you, EckhartsLadder, and thank you for your service to the Star Wars community. I knew fragments, so the way you've put it all together has clarified the nature of the Empire for me - & no doubt many others. The Republic was an Empire long before it dropped the facade, yet by this video I can see that it was not completely what Palpatine envisioned even then. As always the citizens of the galaxy carried on with their lives, largely unaware of the financial, political, societal & sinister mechanisms continuing to operate behind facades of their own. I get the sense that it was the application of Force that galvanised those rebels who might have otherwise been assimilated, strengthening the remnants of the Republic like Alderaan & Chandrila, and even extremists like Saul Gerrera. The Imperial 'true-believers' & string-pullers might have been a little overzealous to advance time-tables, or too bold after success, or ignorant of what individuals might deem as 'too far' when they threw their weight around.
Hi Justin, huge fan of the channel. I know this is completely unrelated to the video but had to put this out there because it's driving me crazy and I haven't seen anyone talk about it. Why are the 501st troopers we see in BOBF and OWK a lighter shade of blue than what we see in every other media? To me it's super noticeable and feels really off. Have you or anyone else here noticed this? For me I was so excited to see pieces of the prequel trilogy reappear in SW and then this just seemed like such a careless mistake. Idk. Thanks again Justin for the awesome content
the Storm Trooper Career path tended to go SAG then Academy or Compforce then Stormtrooper. if you didn't pass Military Screening you could take a pass through Compforce before getting your record scrubbed and reappling, thease people would end up as covert mounters of the military.
80% wash out rate that was often fatal. So ⅘ of volunteers possibly were killed, people that could have still been valuable and loyal troops. That's an incredible waste, especially if luck plays any part in who lives and who dies. The only possible excuse for such a insane training program was if it was failing loyalty test that caused the majority of deaths in training.
Do you think the kaminoans would be able to curb their blood lust with their DNA meddling? Thusly it would make them a far more effective soldier if they did.
Damn, they could have just said the Sith cult in ep 9 were a what compforce became. If it's litterly the Emperor's most dedicated, them becoming a cult is pretty reasonable
Now in Disney Star Wars the rebels are the racist literally 90% of the rebels are humans now idk why Disney Star Wars hates using aliens for things other than jokes or villains.
COMPNOR I like to imagine was more like the SA, as opposed to Imperial Intelligence, which is closer to the SS, in that the former was mostly made up of dedicated die-hard volunteers and militia who used violence in a more brutal and direct way and the latter being made up of people with actual military background. The two of them having overlapping responsibilities that often lead to conflict against each other is also analogous to how Adolf Hitler encouraged his subordinates to fight amongst themselves in a similar arraignment, to avoid anyone gaining enough power to be an internal threat.
I love these videos. Most of us living in Star Wars universe would be working for the Empire, either due to successful propaganda or just fear of losing close ones or our belongings. We would be making memes of rebel terrorists trying to fight a galactic size empire, those silly fools. And when New Republic starts to rule? Eh, they wouldn't put in prison every imperial citizen and worker, we would be fine or we would work around the issue.
Depends. Is Ashoka going so out here? Like if she's out for blood shadow elite gets yeeted. But if Shadow elite is on A game and Ashoka is in her early training years I'd give it a 70/30 in favor of Shadow Elite
COMPNOR is like the political party of the Empire. With it's own SS in a way. The SS began as security forces for the Nazi party. Then know as the SA. AKA brownshirts. When Nazi control over German was absolute, the Schutzstaffel essentially became the private military of the Nazi party, while the nation as a whole still had its own military. The Wehrmacht. The SS would later be sent out like regular troops in the form of the Waffen-SS. Other SS units would continue to be used for suppressing dissenters, but most notably carrying out specific actions that fit the Nazis cultural goals. Genocide. COMPNOR's CompForce and ISB are very much armed political entities. Loyal to the Empire's culture rather than to the defense of the Empire. Indoctrinated toadies willing to fight and die for things like human supremacy or the "dangers" of differing opinions.
I think COMPNOR is supposed to be more of a reference to INGSOC from 1984 than the Hitler Youth. Of course, INGSOC was largely inspired by fascism so hmmm
@@internetzenmaster8952 you know Orwell was a socialist, right? The book was more about how power without checks will inevitably lead to destruction, no matter what the ideology is.
Saying ‘the removal of liberties’ and then showing the destruction of the ship The Liberty made me chuckle
I call my westend books the sacred text.
I've always wondered how many humans there are in the galaxy compared to the various alien species
How could the Empire justify their discrimination
Then I remember OUR history of discrimination or the colonial governments in Africa where the white minority ruled over the black majority
But in those cases, the whites were more technological advanced than the Africans who were basically living in the stone age
This applies to other colonized regions of the world as well. People who were of equal technology, never got colonized as far as I know
This doesn't apply to the Star Wars Galaxy though as everyone is at the same level of technology as everyone else
So how do the humans of their galaxy justify that humans are superior to aliens?
I don't understand it
I covered some of that in this video: ua-cam.com/video/uHSdwQHal-Q/v-deo.html
Humans were the first to reverse engineer the Rakata's hyperdrive which allowed them to colonizing much of the galaxy which in turn lead to them forming the Republic. Except for the Hutts almost every major multi-system polity outside of the Unknown Regions as established by Humans. The history of the galaxy is mostly the history of Humans as a result. That is why the Empire was so humanocentric; not the first time this view was prevalent, there was the Pius Dea crusades as well when Star Wars decided it would be really cool to be Warhammer 40K's Empire of Man for a few centuries.
@@EckhartsLadder But what's the ratio of humans to aliens in the galaxy?
Interesting, were their any characters ever identified as COMPNOR agents or leaders other then ISB agents?
Well one is Arman Isard, who is the director of COMPNOR in canon
@@yadude_log Director of the ISB after Yularen died, I believe.
Edit: I misread your comment. So he's the director of COMPNOR as a whole in the new canon. Where as in Legends he was, I think, head of the ISB
Edit 2: Nevermind, he was the head of Imperial Intelligence.
Didn't he say CompForce is more elite than stormtroopers
@@АлексейМомот-щ7о They were terrible shots and were just fanatics
I would love a vid about a specific category of ship and list out a majority of the examples. Such as frigate and list out a bunch of examples such as carrick, nebulon B, ton falk, etc.
I loved that game. The Adventure Journal digest mags were a mine of great stuff.
We need a Rob Stallworth in the Star Wars galaxy.
The difference between the Ubiquitorate and the ISB is basically the difference Abwehr and the Gestapo. One conduct what’s considered legitimate cloak and dagger operations upon external threats, the other spends almost all of it’s energy conducting the same operations against its own citizens.
As a child, I had never realized just how based the Empire was. I for one really hate those aliens. They can't be trusted, and they all look the same.
the sith were right all along
Humanity First.
😁
Sorzus Syn and Ajunta Pall moment
The CIS were the anti-spiciest.
@@Kirifuki the CIS was predominatly made of Aliens, solely so Palpatine and Janus Greejatus could use that as ammo
By the way, Kallus is Agent 21 in the ISB's hierachy, meaning he is just short of being one of the top 20 best officers in the ISB's ranks.
"Adventures of Han Solo" I read as a child, and picked up again just couple years ago and read on metro during my commute to work.
COMPNOR featured a lot in Star Wars Galaxies where you'd mess with their camps, etc as a Rebel
"Removal of Liberties" had a fantastic cut 👌
Make me moderator, I will ban anyone who says "based".
I think you already are one lol
Based
The West End is a dead end world--Rebel boys and Empire girls
That song keeps getting stuck in my head when I think about the original sourcebooks
Hey Eck Can you do a deep vid on The Lambda Class and it's variants like the Alpha wing , Gunships , sentinel
so many WEGs memories. i used to pour over the Imperial Sourcebook thinking about these charts
the Storm Trooper Career path tended to go SAG then Academy or Compforce then Stormtrooper.
if you didn't pass Military Screening you could take a pass through Compforce before getting your record scrubbed and reappling, thease people would end up as covert mounters of the military.
"Removal of Liberties"
I see what you did there Eck!
The only SW book I have read, you mention it. Zoinks!
How about covering splinter related stuff.
I really like the minimalistic look of the Compforce troopers.
Damn that shit made me eject my milk from my nostrils upon first reading the title of the vid. This is exactly what the future needs lmao
And I tought I couldnt like the empire even more. They litteraly have the department of racism, AMAZING.
You joined Compnor because of racism. *_I_* joined Compnor for the deals on buying and selling luxurious Wookie carpets.
We are not the same.
Saw the title, thought "This is going to be COMPNOR, isn't it?" and indeed it was
The removal of libertys bit killed me 🤣🤣
Damn, the thumbnail was the face i made when i read the title.
Now this looks like a Job for me.
Human supremacy time.
**gets on all fours, rapidly crawling towards yo*
80% wash out rate that was often fatal.
So ⅘ of volunteers possibly were killed, people that could have still been valuable and loyal troops. That's an incredible waste, especially if luck plays any part in who lives and who dies.
The only possible excuse for such a insane training program was if it was failing loyalty test that caused the majority of deaths in training.
"They're very good, sir, but they won't blindly abuse the alien filth"
*sigh* "Right, have them all shot and get to work on the next class"
When you've got hundreds of quadrillions, hundreds mean nothing
What if marvel wolverine and sabretooth clones were used in clone troopers for the gra instead of Jango Fett clones?
Do you think the kaminoans would be able to curb their blood lust with their DNA meddling? Thusly it would make them a far more effective soldier if they did.
Isn’t Wolverine a little short for a Stormtrooper?
😁
@@patrickstewart3446 maybe but, he more than makes up for his shortness with his skills and abilities.
Damn, they could have just said the Sith cult in ep 9 were a what compforce became. If it's litterly the Emperor's most dedicated, them becoming a cult is pretty reasonable

Werent The Orange shoulder pad used by sargeants or some sguad commanders?
Is this some weapons inspection happening in The middle of a warzone?
Ah yes, the Based Department. Fuck Star Trek, this was truly the one that influenced the future
Oh boy the algorithm is gonna love that title🤣
its confirmed Palpatine is the CEO of racism
I feel really weird about people irl saying things like "the empire did nothing wrong" because like, they're literally space nazis
But they did have cool uniforms and that makes specieism okay...right
No they are space german empire
not really since germans werent known for vast Ressources or unlimited amount of cruisers and battleships.
whats wrong with removing alien scum especially sfter the clone wars?
@@laisphinto6372 yes really. That was literally George's inspiration for the empire.
Who Would win?
Mass effect: Citadel Council Space
VS
Star Wars: Confederacy Independent Systems.
It's been a while I've done this.
Halo: Silent Shadow Elite
VS
Star Wars: Asoka Tano
Depends. Is Ashoka going so out here? Like if she's out for blood shadow elite gets yeeted.
But if Shadow elite is on A game and Ashoka is in her early training years I'd give it a 70/30 in favor of Shadow Elite
@@spiffygonzales5899 yes kinda depends on who is in their A Game
I like to think of the ISB as the space CIA
I saw the title for the notification and, out of context, it was the funniest shit
Disney is going to be disappointed that that the department focused on xenos racism and not human racism.
I really wish West End Games had kept going longer. I wanna see streamers running around as a Ghostbusters franchise or a bunch of Troubleshooters.
Who would win?
Star Wars: Chiss Acendency
VS
Halo: The Covenant Empire
Eck: and the removal of liberties
Poor mc80
I remember COMPNOR in the imperial handbook
The department of Gamers 😎
The Empire literally had a based department
/literally me/
“star wars” and “racism” in the same sentence makes my skin crawl
have fun. was interesting hearing some more lore etc the rpgs have a lota fun stuff, great writers who get underappreciated sometimes haah
"Removal of Liberties." I see what you did there :)
COMPNOR was basically the department of maintaining the state ideology.
The whole point is that there is no ideology - INGSOC stands for nothing more than the permanent suppression of the populace, nothing else.
I suggest you give the book a re-read, specifically when Winston is captured and talks about the origins and purpose of Big Brother
