Every single camper should have that bed lift with that setup that is absolutely perfect for every clothing need you could possibly have. And then it opens up all the other storage for anything else you need. That should be the future right there for under bed storage take notice RV companies

@@RVBlogger We love looking at all the videos! We are 'older' and find that our 30' trailer is just a bit too much so we've been thinking that maybe the dinette was gone...! It always takes up way too much space & we kinda like eating outdoors or at the couch! We also like the idea of the bathroom size is the width of the trailer... & like you, the rectangle shower with the retractable curtain is great. Thanks for all of these...now to figure out how to be rid of the one we have now.

I didn't know they were building some campers w/o dining tables. This is a fabulous idea. I don't know how well it would work out if you have children. But if everyone is adult size it would be fine with me. Fix yourself a plate and find a place to sit. But at the same time if you need a flat surface to put your laptop while you map out plans or work a folding table hidden away somewhere would be a good idea. You had one camper with a table folded and placed behind the sofa. Great idea.

We have the 2021 22reb imagine. Same set up except the table.. We absolutely LOVE it and spend up to a month at a time in it when we travel. It's just the two of us along with our small to medium size dog Jake. We all fit with no problem!

I've always hated the classic dinette table. They eat up so much RV or camper floor space for what is essentially an unpleasantly straight backed and confiningly compact dining table. These selected designs, with their couches, are nice alternatives to that. However, what I'd personally like (and have seen at least one customized Airstream owner do in a video) is strip out the table and put in a window facing desk. I'd personally rather sit next to somebody at a two person table where we could look out upon the scenery rather than facing each other with the side view as an afterthought. Relatively shallow, with some free-standing stowable chairs. Deep enough for a laptop or dinner plate with legroom underneath. Perhaps even as a fold away design.

Generally speaking I like the jayco but you make some great points Mike. I do wish the kitchen sink was a bit larger and I think it's very feasible given the fact that there is enough counter space there. I also am not a fan of the corner shower as it is quite cramped. They could put a hanging corner sink in there with a corner medicine cabinet and then maybe do a little bit longer shower with the built-in shower doors like you suggested. The only other thing I would like to see is a standard 60 in wide bed. I would sacrifice a longer sofa for that standard residential bed. Otherwise a really nice trailer with a good amount of storage! The Coachman is really nice. I'm not as fond of the kitchen layout although it does have a much bigger sink which I do like and I do like an oven but I think they could have done a better job putting deep drawer storage under the oven for cookware storage. They also didn't put any kind of drawer space around the entertainment area which could easily be used for clothing storage. I like the bedroom layout that it is north-south and of course I'm a huge fan of a standard residential Queen size. It is not that I'm tall I just do not want to have to buy special size sheets and fight with trying to get back into the corner to put sheets on. I love the under bed storage and the open space in the middle I think would be a great place to put a dog crate. The bathroom is not ideal but I think they did a better job on this one then jayco did simply by virtue of having the built-in shower drawers although that 11-in step up is quite significant and could be a problem for me being disabled. I like the shorter couch as it is just me traveling so I don't need to worry about having room for another passenger and the couch is definitely large enough to accommodate myself and my dogs and it's all about the dogs when I travel let's just be honest! I am a big fan of Grand Design. They have a good quality reputation and this is a great floorplan! Separate bedroom is nice, the kitchen is awesome, the sofa is luxurious and the bathroom....wow! I am sure it is the $$$ and it likely needs the biggest tow vehicle. All three are great and if I had unlimited $ for a truck and trailer, the Grand Design would be my choice!!! Thanks Susan and Mike!!!

Wasn’t hard, just moved the hinges and handle and lived with holes in my refrigerator door where the hinges and handle were, and the handle was never right because there were no supports to screw into on the other side. I know I’m weird, but I would rather have a door without holes and a handle that isn’t permanently loose. 😎

Hi Mike and Susan! I too like the shower doors verses a curtain. It’s so frustrating to have a shower curtain sticking to you while you’re trying to bathe. It cracks me up with sleep capacity's on trailer's. Most often if you have some height challenged people, people that do not mind sleeping on a lumpy bed then your all set. :) God for bid they all wake up at the same time.
Thank you Mike and Susan! Great video on these 3 Travel Trailers. The Jayco the bathroom was small especially the shower. I like the Coachmen and the Grand Design but I like the Grand Design better. The bathroom was huge. Thank you again for showing these Rvs. Have a great week and see you soon!

We are a retired couple who fulltime travel in 22ft Winnebago 2106FBS. We love having a sofa instead of the dinette. We ditched the heavy table that came with the trailer and replaced it with one folding 5' plastic Walmart table and two TV Trays. The all fit nicely behind the seat. I am really enjoying the RVBlogger videos and website. Thank you!

Check out the refrig doors on the first 2 units opens enough to move the shelves inside. I have a 2021 Flagstaff 22FBS and the Refrig door did swing the wrong way and the bathroom door blocked the door from opening enough to pull the shelves out and moving them. I had to have the swing reversed to get it opened enough. Warning, just reversing the swing without aligning the door seal will cause the frig to leak cold air and not get cold. The freezer was also affected. The layout of Jayco to real simlar to mine, I have theater seats and a full queen bed running N/S. Nice layouts.

Great designs! Jayco- The shower may be a deal-breaker for me, tho. Also the kitchen sink is too small. Coachman - love everything except it's a bit heavier than we want (5,000) Grand Design - also so nice but too heavy.
Hey Brandi Great points! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan BTW, let us know what you think of RV Camping Magazine, our free digital and video magazine! rvblogger.com/rv-camping-magazine/
I travel alone, so any of these work fine for me! Don't like the small step up shower in Jayco - prefer the bathroom in the Coachman. I'm staying away from slides and need a sofa larger than Coachman - but sure love that skylight and walkaround true queen bed. Imagine's floorplan, fit & finish is very nice with private owner's suite, L-shaped kitchen and DUAL axle. Speaking of which, could you please pick 3 or 4 lightweight (4k lbs), dual axle, no slide trailers for an upcoming video? That's what I'm looking for if such a thing exists!! Keep up the great work - I appreciate you both!!
Not sure how many dual axle, 4k GVWR campers are out there but I will definitely shoot them if I see them. We do have quite a few tours of RVs under 4k lbs. Have you checked any of those? Nice video. Totally agree on the Jayco comments. One sink in kitchen is enough. and frankly, one burner in kitchen is enough. The living area works very well imho, but the bathroom needs a completer, but simple, redesign.

The fridge doors open the wrong way in the Jayco 166, that gets annoying really fast. Also, the couch faces the entertainment area...I'd rather have it facing windows. The underbed storage in the Coachmen is awesome, nice shower. The Grand Design knocked it out of the park except for the direction the fridge doors open.

WOW I really like the Coachman but does that particular model come a little lighter. I own a 2005 Toyota 4 runner and my max weight capacity is approximately 5021 lbs. So I wouldn't be able to tow that at all 😢😢
That Coachmen is a great floor plan but you can't find that model lighter. Maybe they have something similiar on their website. Thanks for watching and commenting Keith!
About time the rv manufacturers get rid of the booth dinette! My wife and I wanted the jayco, but that shower is a huge miss and mistake by them!!! Ditxh the sink, and put in an adult size shower with a door! Surprised at a few things on the grand design for that msrp... like crooked outlets to start!
Hey Sands, Great points! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan BTW, let us know what you think of RV Camping Magazine, our free digital and video magazine! rvblogger.com/rv-camping-magazine/
Each trailer had merits! I won’t repeat the drawbacks already mentioned but will ask a few questions. Is fridge only 12v or electric? Propane is needed with more storage and proper left or right opening. Ovens DO Not function properly. I’ve had two so ditch ovens. Love the removable table. Most dinettes are waste of space& uncomfortable. Need longer beds and taller showers and headroom. “Skylight” is novelty. I may really enjoy that.
For me a big part of camping is lingering over my morning coffee at the dinette, and in the evening lingering over my glass of wine at the dinette. No dinette, no sale. Also, why add the weight of facade trim on the fridge doors? Leave the metal showing and save the weight.
Hey Bika Bill Good points! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan BTW, let us know what you think of RV Camping Magazine, our free digital and video magazine! rvblogger.com/rv-camping-magazine/
Beautiful travel trailor..modern and very comfortable...I have to agree..shower looks very small..and then the vanity take up a lot of space ..there should be another way to enlarge shower space. A shower door would also be much better..because a shower curtain get stuck to your body while showering. Other than that..a stunning trailer..
Hey Anita, Great point! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan BTW, let us know what you think of RV Camping Magazine, our free digital and video magazine! rvblogger.com/rv-camping-magazine/
While I like the Grand Design I wish the slide was on the opposite side of the entrance door. I have noticed single bowl sinks for the kitchen becoming more common. I prefer a two bowl sink to separate the wash / soap side from the rinse side when cleaning the pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. While I prefer an indoor dinette, I can understand why multi use sofas have become more popular. Of the three illustrated here, the Coachmen model offers the most features for us.
Hey Sky Keg Great points and choice! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan BTW, let us know what you think of RV Camping Magazine, our free digital and video magazine! rvblogger.com/rv-camping-magazine/
The refrigerator should open from right to left. Having to stand in the doorway to access it is kind of silly. All three trailers have backward opening for the fridge doors. People....it's the little things that will turn people away. When you have cramped quarters, making access more difficult does not make a sale.
It's that way to allow you to reach in from outside the trailer. Nice for grabbing a beverage. Ours is the other way (opening right to left) and it blocks the entry either way so why not at least make it so you don't have to walk all the way into the camper to grab a beer? Less dirt gets tracked in that way.
@@schmartz99 mine is faced the original way (open towards the stove) and I'm probably going to change that because I enter the camper completely prior to opening the fridge anyway.
@@aiodensghost8645 Ideally they'd all be made like home refrigerators where you can have it open either way and let the user decide. Unfortunately many aren't changeable.
Hey Patriot Chic Great points! There's reasons to have it both ways, either side would be convenient for different reasons :) Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤ Mike and Susan

On that first Jayco if it was a two burner stove top mounted left to right, that would have made a much bigger counter top. Think about it, how many times when out camping have you ever had to use three burners at the same time. Your not going to be cooking Thanksgiving dinner in most cases. I want a deep double sink, one for washing, one for drying!

Currently in my fifth wheel the dinette has been removed in the slideout and in it's place it has a crib and a tall dresser and a curtain on one side to give me more of an enclave vibe. Of course I added 2 barstools to the extended countertop area at the end of the kitchen but the dinette area makes a perfect nursery with enough space to hold everything a baby needs (minus the stroller and etc large items which are stored in the storage compartment underneath the fifth wheel.) I also added a wicker chest coffee table in the living area for blanket and jacket storage. When the crib is no longer necessary the high top bar table and high back bar chairs will go back in the dinette area. My 37 ft fifth wheel camper currently sleeps 4 people + 1 baby but I have a blow up queen sized mattress that fits in front of the couch and a twin blow up mattress that fits in between the nursery and the kitchen so technically it can sleep up to 7 people + 1-2 babies right now. I took out the movie theater seating options and put a futon couch in my camper so that I could put those under the bed storage drawers underneath it for more storage.

I’ve been browsing floorplans with the intention of using it to go to my son’s hockey games. The Jayco would be perfect if it didn’t have the slide. Since we would be in parking lots I don’t want to have to open slides and take up more space.

All these seem very similar is style. Are American manufacturers going to bring some of the Euro elegance to their campers? The Grand Design was the best in my opinion and had the Euro vibe on cabinets. The coachman is almost exactly the same as a Northtrail 21RBSS.

I really like the Grand Design Imagine. I just don't like having to use propane. If it were to come in an all electric design still with a separate oven and front to back two burner cook top it would give people another option. I know I'm suggesting to much.. but maybe think about adding a skylight in the living space as well so you could sit and look up at the stars at night if its chilly out and since the bathroom is so big.. maybe a washer/dryer combo. Overall.. it's an amazing design with a beautiful interior.
@@RVBlogger Hello and late Merry Christmas to you both. I was wondering.. are there any trailers that you know of that are made for just one person with just a twin sized bed and lots of storage? I've been thinking I will have to renovate anything I get just to get everything I want. I plan on living in it permanently. I'm a single woman in my early 60's and just need something small. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
The 166 Jayco is decent but I would get rid of the ALL the dark cabinet colors, too gloomy 😣 .. And exchange the large sofa for a smaller love seat which would give more room for a tub shower .. The 1840 Coachman is better .. But same issue with the too big of a sofa that can be smaller for more room for a tub shower The 22RBE is nice .. Even love the 2 tone cabinets .. But same as the others .. Got to have my tub shower

I can't imagine why it took these manufacturers this long to figure this out. I'm a solo traveler and every time I would look at trailers and see the dinette, the only thing I could think about is what an incredible waste of space in a place where space is at a premium. Next, get rid of one of the 16 seating areas for some more storage space. Duh!!!

Great idea.

I got to have the dinette and the rear ladder to get to the roof, the classic Winnebago style.

At 20:00 -- Why did they put a right hand opening door on that refrigerator? Yikes! Love the trailer but that is scary.
Home refrigerator doors can be switched, not sure if this one can be.
@@cherylweso - Yes, I switched one once. Wasn’t hard, just moved the hinges and handle and lived with holes in my refrigerator door where the hinges and handle were, and the handle was never right because there were no supports to screw into on the other side.

Those are all great points. The fridge is electric too. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Love the Grand Design!

For me a big part of camping is lingering over my morning coffee at the dinette, and in the evening lingering over my glass of wine at the dinette. No dinette, no sale.

Of course I added 2 barstools to the extended countertop area at the end of the kitchen but the dinette area makes a perfect nursery with enough space to hold everything a baby needs (minus the stroller and etc large items which are stored in the storage compartment underneath the fifth wheel.)
I also added a wicker chest coffee table in the living area for blanket and jacket storage.
Wow! What a great setup! Are you a member of our Facebook group? They would love to see your mods. Thanks for watching and commenting! facebook.com/groups/RVCampingforNewbies
Finally that dinette needs to go as it’s nothing but a waste for most. Been waiting for this
Never quite comfortable and the worst fabrics available.
Hey Joanne,
YES so many people dislike them it's nice to see options without :)

I’ve been browsing floorplans with the intention of using it to go to my son’s hockey games. The Jayco would be perfect if it didn’t have the slide. Since we would be in parking lots I don’t want to have to open slides and take up more space.
Hey Sarah
That sounds like a great idea, best of luck!! For both the camper and the hockey!
Does the sofa make a bed in the Grand Design?
Hey William,
We recommend checking out the manufacturer's website for anything we didn't cover in the video to assure you're getting the most accurate info :)

All these seem very similar is style. Are American manufacturers going to bring some of the Euro elegance to their campers? The Grand Design was the best in my opinion and had the Euro vibe on cabinets. The coachman is almost exactly the same as a Northtrail 21RBSS.
Hey Steven
Not sure but we'll keep an eye out for it!

@@RVBlogger Making the shower larger is great, but a sink to wash hands after using toilet is essential.
What about:
Roulottes ProLite Plus S
Lil Snoozy 2
Hey Mark
We'll keep an eye out for 'em! We don't normally see them at RV Shows or dealerships unfortunately.

You're welcome! Thanks for watching and commening Patrick!
Too bad they all have
"pop-outs". Nice layouts, and no dinette's is a positive! I have never sat at a dinette that was comfortable...total waste of space. Love the Imagine the best, but I have expensive tastes. 😊

I think that's a great idea for an all-electric version of that travel trailer and it's something they should consider.
But same issue with the too big of a sofa that can be smaller for more room for a tub shower
The 22RBE is nice .. Even love the 2 tone cabinets ..
But same as the others .. Got to have my tub shower
Lisa,
Great points!!

I'm curious how much RV showers actually get used. In my experience they're used more as an area to hang wet things to dry.
Hey NGB
It differs so much from camper to camper, it's more/less important for some. We're glad we have one but understand how other's wouldn't mind not having one. :)

Duh!!!
Hey Tyrone,
Great idea!!!

Booth Dinettes are over rated! I’d rather have the stand alone table and sofa option. Or even a space for table and chairs over bolted down booth

What is the smallest camper with a bath and shower a Honday Odyssey SE can pull. Can anyone with towing experience help?
Hey Mary
We have videos of small campers with bathrooms, but not familiar with your vehicle. Remember to stay within 80% of your max tow weight! Best of luck! :)

Not one of the 3 campers you showed were pre-wired for solar .
Wonders why?
Hi Just Janie,
Most folks don't boondock so they really don't need solar. So, the manufacturer keeps the price lower by not including it. And - you can always add solar later.
Great question!
Mike
The only thing wrong with the grand design model is that the refrigerator door opens the wrong way
Many refrigerators come so that you can switch which way the door opens. That one decibels needs to be changed.
Hey Leslie,
Great point! Sometimes you can change the handle on them. :)
