For those wondering why ohtani is #4. This list every season is a PROJECTION and PREDICTION of the best players for the next season. They’ve always done it this way. And Ohtani is only dhing this season. However, the confusion can come because mlb names this “top 100 right now” which doesn’t make any sense. Fix it mlb network.

Given he’s not pitching this year it makes sense, mookie and judge are better overall players if you take just the hitting and defense aspect. Pitching and hitting is what make ohtani the best in the league

Shohei had 44HR (12HR ahead of all other players) when he got arm injury and absent for playing around one month while he had 23 starts and 3.16ERA as an Ace for Angels. Now he is in Dodgers with all the protection behind and best runners in front of him, Shohei can release himself from the limitations of savings energies in stealing & running baseslike he did for pitching! Definitely Shohei will be far better as a DH alone in batting AVG, runs, RBI, & OPS.
Trout was top 2 even in a season where he didn't get to play, but Ohtani, who is scheduled to get to play, was somehow ranked #4 instead of #1...

You answered your own question. It's a projection for this reason. Ohtani is hurt and can't pitch. And it's a toss up between Acuna and Ohtani even if Ohtani is pitching. The man stole 70 bases and hit 40 home runs last season. He's the best player in baseball going into this season. Period.

He’s not pitching in 2024. What made him the best player in the game the past few seasons is that he was able to both hit and pitch at a high level. To this point, he has not been the best overall offensive player in the league. So when ranking him for 2024, they are looking at what they think he will do at the plate and base running alone. To me, Acuna and Judge are better in terms of offensive production. Ohtani and Betts are debatable.

@@KENKEN-vr1sy1. This was an outlier year for Shohei’s offensive production, he doesn’t have nearly the same level of consistency as the other guys that are up there.
2. The value a player generates by being on the field instead of in the DH slot is huge. There really shouldn’t be any reason for a pure DH to even be sniffing the top 10 but MLB just threw him up to 4 because it’s Shohei

Judge and Yankees made a fake 62HR record of treating the world! If you don't know what fly balls & Goldilocks meant, then check there was a report on it came out at the off season'22 after Judge made his treating record .

Ohtani at 4 makes no sense at all. If they’re saying it’s a projection for 2024 where Ohtani will be a pure DH then he should be well outside the top 10, even if Shohei puts up Bonds like numbers next season, the DH is just such a huge hinderance. If the list is based on who the best players are not accounting for injuries, then Ohtani should be 1st by a country mile. 4th just makes no sense no matter how you slice it

With Mike Trout now getting older and Trea turners performance last year that didn't live up to expectations it is reasonable for Yordan to be higher especially with his increasingly better performance I argue that one day he will be even higher one the list
