    These stories are so important for the record of Hubbard and Scientology. I hope one day even Scientologists will be able to freely listen to them. They are very much separated from their past. The Sea Org barely resembles what it was like when Hubbard was around. Absolutely one of the most important channels related to Scientology ever! Thank you both!

      Thank you very much for the nice comment. We hope we do present the history of Sceintology and the Sea Org to fill in the blanks for people going forward.

    Great show. I have two stories about your mom when I was at the celebrity center. She was wonderful. I was so sad when I heard or read the letter saying she thought it was better to drop her body than get the needed auditing for her brain cancer. She had every course graduate in her office for a talk when you finished even the most uncomplicated course. I loved her like a mom.

    Having been there myself from age 13-38, I am stunned how ignorant of the common world I was, in my extreme sheltered life in the Sea Organization then. “Making it go right” is just stupid.

    Thank you for sharing your stories. I love hearing how things were done in the early days and of course hearing Janice laugh over the fire cracked me up ❤

    I joined SO at AOLA November 1977.
    I always felt ‘late’.
    Thank you so much Janis ❤ for filling in the blanks. I now appreciate my earlier 10 years fishing, hunting and hiking in Sitka Alaska much more!
    BTW I never heard of the raid till long after - 2010+

    Yes it was early July 1977. I was doing my cleaning station as an RPFer at the Complex Horseshoe entrance when the FBI came in with sledge hammers etc. it was crazy.

    I'm looking forward to your next episode. Will your sister make an appearance? I'm also looking forward to
    Stuart M. taking part. Did you ever see the tv show Miami Vice? I think Don Johnson's who Pat Broeker thought he was -- hair slicked back, and the coolest guy in town.

    Thank you for sharing all your wonderful stories and having some amazing guest on the channel. Just one thing keeps sticking in my head on this one: 50k is about 400k today.... that is alot of money!!! Specially if its in cash! What and how was he spending that so fast while on the lam?? I believe Janis when she says LRH did not live totally lavishly, so where was that money going?

    • @JanisGillhamGrady
      @JanisGillhamGrady 3 місяці тому +2

      It was spent sparingly to pay rent, utilities, food, etc and the rest was returned when they got back to the base in La Quinta. LRH liked to have extra fund in reserve in case he had to stay on the lam longer.

    Just as a comment on the FBI raids (searches) at the 3 locations. At the time, in the sea org, we knew about the raids, knew it was the FBI, knew it was a big deal. But we were just told it was a raid against the church in general, because the FBI and the government were evil. We had no idea there were valid search warrants, no idea it was a search of Guardian's offices rather than just a general raid against the church. I personally thought they probably wouldn't find anything they could make sense of, because of the scientology lingo. And the assumption was they mainly wanted to get or arrest LRH. And also the idea was, when he came back, it was safe for him because the FBI were now after Mary Sue, and she had left. Jimmy Mulligan, by the way, was a real weenie-head (Richard Cranium).

    I thought I had read that Ron had watched Star Wars and had nice things to say about the film. Ironic that the raids happened just a few months later.

    1:04:40. Wow! Henning Heldt's "red box" with Mary Sue's handwritten orders to Henning! I wonder if those Mary Sue handwritten orders have ever been made public?

  • @SuppressiveSquirrel
    @SuppressiveSquirrel 3 місяці тому +4

    1:06:58 All of what Hubbard did was indictable and his “ being on the lam” showed consciousness of guilt. The fact that he let Mary Sue take the fall for him is incredulous.

    Mark, the grand jury can bring charges based on probable cause. It's only once you get to trial that beyond a reasonable doubt becomes the standard. Janis, when I think of the way you and your mother were separated for all the years and she was robbed of the comfort and love of her children during her dying days it simply breaks my heart. so wrong.

    • @JanisGillhamGrady
      @JanisGillhamGrady 3 місяці тому +2

      Totally agree - thankyou.

    • @SuppressiveSquirrel
      @SuppressiveSquirrel 3 місяці тому +2

      Actually, the Grand Jury only determines whether there is legally sufficient evidence to believe a person committed a crime. Beyond and to the exclusion of a reasonable doubt is the standard for trial.

    I was thinking about pirates how their name is so bad and how they're bad but actually they were probably just trying to be free but the government gave them the bad name but also they probably did some things that gave them the bad name

    0:01 I think it was July 77, not June. (June is my favorite month). Another picky quibble, the place was not La Quinta at that time, it was just unincorporated Riverside county.

    • @JanisGillhamGrady
      @JanisGillhamGrady 3 місяці тому +2

      It was July 1977 which I mention later on. WHQ (Winterhead Quarters) was located in several houses across the street from the La Quinta Hotel and later sold to the hotel (except Rifle) which is why I refer to it as La Quinta. While we mostly referred to it as WHQ, we did refer to the location as La Quinta or Indio as that was the closest town, as it was easier than unincorporated Riverside county.
