To clarify the Kraken vs Crab at the end in text form. With Object Shredder: You 1 shot Crab, however you must be at mid range to kill the rider. Without Object Shredder: You do not 1 shot Crab, but by squid rolling after you can break and hit the rider dealing 60 damage. They then can not escape the followup jump attack. So OS works for midrange and no OS works better for long range. Since at max range with OS, the Crab breaks from the charge and the user can move. Final note is that if the Crab is even slightly low, you can kill it at midrange without OS.

Two more things to note about the Kraken, 1. Since you're technically in swim form you still go through grates and wire railings like the ones on Manta, meaning if you're not careful you could fall through the stage or accidentally dash through a wall 2. And along with being in swim form, if you're using Ninja you can immediately swim away without creating a ripple.
I love that they put the captain at the top of manta maria, just a little Easter egg to reward people for trying, kinda reminiscent of yoshi at the top of peach's castle. I hope Nintendo does more of this

From what I saw in the Crab vs Kraken: Kraken's charge seems to be a constantly moving hitbox that may pierce through crab if the charge hits two times, for that to happen you can't be either to close or too far else only one hit of the charge will hit whereas mid range can hit twice after the Crab's i-frames, I guess it's because the endlag of the charge makes it slower but it's still an active hitbox so your displacement is enough to have ut hit too times instead of one
Kraken basically outclasses reefslider while still not being too op. Reefslider needs either a very major buff or a rework, or even change the special altogether.
since we now have kraken, CRB is a logical next step but i was thinking what if intensify action increased the speed that jump rng decayed so that 2-3 subs of it was able to give similar jump rng performance to 1 where it decayed fast enough to be reliable and, controllable, instead of just giving it the shooter jumprng curve

I feel while Kraken should keep its invincibility, Splatoon 3 should take a page from, weirdly enough, Xenoblade 3’s book in its Ouroboros Mechanics and make it so that taking damage decreases the duration you can stay in Kraken, and surging does the same thing. That way you can’t be killed in Kraken but attacking it does more to hinder it than just knock back, and being super aggressive with Kraken means you get to do less with it, like Zipcaster.

I’m starting to see a pattern here with Kraken i don’t like. I cannot tell you how many Tower Control games I’ve lost because someone pops kraken on the tower and spams the jump attack until they win. I feel like this could be fixed by just not letting the Kracken push the tower forward.
That crab kraken thing is probably a hit box thing. From far away the damaging part of the hit box is probably already done before it gets the chance to hit the player, and from too close the hit box probably shows at the front of the kraken before covering the back of the kraken so you are far past them before the hitbox actually covers the rear of the kraken, that or the start of the dash is faster than the mid part of its dash that it just goes through it too fast for the hit box to hit then. Just a guess from someone who has seen his fair share of fight game and monster hunter hit boxes.

At mid range, the kraken dash is moving slow enough to not overshoot the rider and kills. At long range, the kraken dash's attack doesn't last long enough to hit the rider after their invulnerability period ends.
maybe I'm wrong but kraken is a bit strong from what I've seen so far. I haven't seen much counterplay since shooting at it doesn't really help (all I can do now is climb walls and spam squid rolls which doesn't actually parry a charged shot or use an unreliable brella or reliable yet slow splash wall) but if this is nintendo's way of trying to make ink vac more relevant then I guess it's pretty nice. I feel bad for stamp. The only somewhat unique thing it now has over other specials is a stealth insta kill (jumping out of ink) and a single projectile that can one-shot a crab. When I saw kraken released my first thoughts were that it would make reefslider and stamp irrelevant since kraken is just a better version of them; it is a shame to be correct sometimes.

So doing it too close makes it go through too fast and kraken isn't able to break the crab and then kill the user in time and doing it too far will result in the attack ending too early, not user in time.
i really do think this might be the case because i notice a consistent timing between the crab being destroyed and the user dying. So the Kraken's attack has to be touching the crab and the user in that timeframe
While they DID remove kraken super jumps they gave us something much worse. You can use kraken like splashdown mid super jump and it’s a bigger threat to camping a super jump marker than super chump is
Not being able to hit an ink vac user with Kraken makes zero sense to me. I can excuse the regular jump attacks, but you cannot make a good case against the charge attack. If you get hit head-on by a giant squid, you'll be hurt by that no matter what you have with/on you.

If you're too far, only your last hit will land, and if you're too close, only your first hit will land. By being mid-range, both hits will land, causing the crab to break on the first hit and the player to splat on the second.
the attack animation and the charged attack's hitbox ends as soon as it manages to hit the crab which might be why it can't be done from too far away. and when it's done really close, since I think the rider doesn't immediately go to the ground the moment it's destroyed and instead remains in the air for a few moments the charged attack overshoots it just enough for the crab rider to survive wack shit lmao
Casually I’m glad gear doesn’t affect Kraken (except Special Power Up of course) since I’d imagine it’d make it easier to balance and i dont have to feel like im extra-nerfed when using ninja squid or that by using swim speed (which im already gonna be using) all of a sudden my special is randomly super buffed removing super jumps though is unfortunate but does make it more committal I guess

So yeah, kraken needs to be needed already. I was dreading this moment, never having played splatoon 1 before. But had the opportunity to face it in tower and clam now, and it's just obsurd, the fact that it actually leaves you invincible is so stupid, don't know why it's not health based like every other rideable special.
Really wish you could hold the kraken back with shooters like you could in splatoon 1. That would make it much less frustrating to play against. Also, on TC kraken is a nightmare.

My theory why kraken vs crab is so wierd is that mid range slows down just enough to keep the kitbox by the player until they fall into it while it is just short enough that the hitbox is still active. From far away, the hitbox disappears before the player can be killed and at short range you move too fast to hit them with the hitbox. Overall, kraken is kind of busted because you can negate any substantial amount of knockback with the charge attack then just one shot them, two shot at worst.

It still has knockback , but now it's less noticeable because it can use the charged attack to become immune to said knockback.
The removal of the Super-jump I can only think is due to its longer duration; but even then it's odd.

Maybe whats happening with kraken on crab tank is you deal damage passing through and then damage from the explosion at the end, maybe theres some moment in the middle where the damage ticks over and does another bit of damage if you catch it at the right point in the middle of the dash, idk thats how it kinda feels to me

So yeah, kraken needs to be needed already. I was dreading this moment, never having played splatoon 1 before. But had the opportunity to face it in tower and clam now, and it's just obsurd, the fact that it actually leaves you invincible is so stupid, don't know why it's not health based like every other rideable special.
Really wish you could hold the kraken back with shooters like you could in splatoon 1. That would make it much less frustrating to play against. Also, on TC kraken is a nightmare.
Heyo guys I have one question so I’m not really knowledged about gear and abilities and stuff like that and I really wanna know how special power up effects the kraken if ya can help me it would be very kind :)
My theory why kraken vs crab is so wierd is that mid range slows down just enough to keep the kitbox by the player until they fall into it while it is just short enough that the hitbox is still active. From far away, the hitbox disappears before the player can be killed and at short range you move too fast to hit them with the hitbox. Overall, kraken is kind of busted because you can negate any substantial amount of knockback with the charge attack then just one shot them, two shot at worst.
