Bought my first boxer in 1970, a R75/5. Throughout the next 53 years with Suzuki's, Moto Guzzi's, MV Agusta's and Goldwing's, I always maintained a Boxer on hand. They are simply the best for a pleasant trip, hands down.
I bought the BMW r18 bagger. When I first drove it home I hated it. By day three I was absolutely in love with it and I've driven this bike more mileage than anybody I've ever owned. The bike is meant to be a heritage model to celebrate BMWs 100 years of the R series. I've watched so many UA-cam "experts"change their minds after spending a month or two with this machine
Hi Going to gave the bike another go in a few months as I got one lined up for a. Full day. So will play around with it alot more. Plus will be factory set up not like the one I was on which had been set up by one of the dealers to suit him. Safe riding.
I own one and it's a fantastic bike, some of the negative comments on this test ride are actually design features of this bike, you get it or you don't.
Hi I've had a ride on another r18 and that one was spot on completely different experience. The one I used in the first impression ride actually went into the workshop as I got it back to the garage I believe there was something wrong with the flywheel. Will have to do another video as I do believe it will be the better experience from the first one I had. All the best and safe riding.
I think you need to learn to ride this bike, your comments would put anyone off, you have a fuel warning light, which then gives 35 to mile range. I am now on my third R 18 the third being the 100 anniversary, you really need to read up, and ride this bike a few times to understand d it. Nothing wrong with brakes, nothing wrong with gear box. It sound like your frightened of it. The vibrations are built in to the modes, to reflect the 1936 R series. It makes you feel like your riding a proper bike. This bike has its quirks, but its an amazing piece of kit.
I completely agree, I hated the first ride I had on one of these, half an hour, and I was done. Then had another go, in the winter, i loved it so much I bought then and there. You have to learn it, it's gorgwhen you have. I've got a K1600gtl, and VFR800, so ive got a good idea of the differences. I also agree he's a little scared of it, not surprising. 😊
Thanks for comment, yes the size does frighten people, I find the bike so well balanced, once you pull off, all the wait goes, but I love the low seat, me only being 29inch leg. He needs to pull the throttle back to appreciate what this bike can do. Every where I go with my bike people flock around it, it's like every bike, either you like it, or hate it. I've also owned four harleys, but build quality and ride is far superior.
I love my R18. If you are thinking of getting one, you must take a long test ride. They are a bit quirky but very rewarding once you get acclimatised. I have ditched the fishtail exhausts, as they are too quiet. I bought the mottorrad drag pipe slip ons and it sounds much better, although your neighbours might not think so. I like the paint job and subtle de-chrome work on this bike, it looks great.
Hi. I agree 100%. When I got back to the dealers told him of my experience he got on the bike and also felt there was something off with the bike. But the video is a first impression so only can gave a view on my experience at the time. Will do a review on this bike later in the year as will have a full day with it. I love the look also . Safe riding
The shaft has nothing to do with the bike twisting to the left when you rev it and start it up. the movement comes from those huge pistons in an apposed position. The shaft dont move until the bike dose.
Think the lemon is you mate. Moan, moan moan. It’s clearly not for you. The heel & toe is more unusual granted but you can either learn to use it or have the normal set up. These are wonderful bikes. I did watch until the end but seriously don’t know why you bothered recording this …….
Hi I so wanted to like this bike. Maybe I was expecting something else. Got a toe and heel on my midnight Star and love it was just pointing out that if they wanted to use the toe part they could not. Had the dealer ride it when I got back and he agreed it didn't feel right so as gone into the work shop. As for posting it's my first impression of any bike good or bad will post. Safe riding.
Personally I think the dealers should Vet test riders....you obviously have very little mechanical knowledge so you will never appreciate such a piece of excellence.... you think the bike rocks on start because its shaft drive!!!!!
Passed my tests and brought a R18 and found it great after a few hundred miles. Ilove the reverse and great fuel economy it also does have rear suspension that is adjustable by a 13mm spanner behind right side panel.
Hi Was very excited about this bike. So wanted to love it. But just could not get into it . As I said the set up was just bad for me. The back brake was set level with the floor boards for some reason so could not use it. I know can adjust some of the things I didn't like but this is a first impression and with all bikes if they are good or bad I will post. In a few months will start doing reviews and have the bikes for longer will but this one on the list. Safe riding.
Hi. Having been riding cruises for a long time I did a test ride on this bike about 4 weeks ago and like you i just didn't get into it. Nice to see I'm not the only one 😂.
Greetings, As always another brilliant detailed video production 🇺🇲🍾🎉🇺🇲 I really really appreciate you HONESTY. You are just stating the facts. Keep producing more honest videos
Hi I've been on another R18 since this one and it was a totally different experience. It was a lot smoother the back break was strong the jerk when you first start the bike so much less aggressive. The bike I did the first impression on I learned afterwards it had a few issues. Best thing to do go and test ride a few times. As you know what suits one person may not suit another. Decide what you're really want out of a motorbike. Also I will suggest test riding as many different bikes take your fancy. The cruiser I ride at the moment Yamaha midnight Star 1300 which suits me because there's no fancy equipment is just basically a engine to wheels and a seat. The one cruiser that I have found to be maybe a little underrated and surprisingly fun to ride was the Honda Rebel 1100 I did a little first impression video on that one maybe something to think about. Safe riding.
Hi. Going to gave this bike ago again in a few months. Got one lined up for the whole day. May gave another bike with a boxer engine a go before that. Safe riding

Its been designed to shake and vibrate its like a vintage bike with modern bits

You are spot on! My very experience after I bought mine. Had to get used to it. Now, I am glad I have it.
It’s not for your beginner and not a cookie cutter for sure

Slip of the tongue. Meant to say crankshaft. Or more importantly flywheel . Safe riding.

@@Bikerlee555 boxer motors are a different beast they kick a especially the 1800 vibrates it’s a big motor it vibrates I love em super reliable!
This video should have been titled the top 10 things I hate about r18.
Been on another r18 since this video. A lot better. The one in the video went into the work shop shortly after the video .
@Bikerlee555 fly wheel on a nearly new bike not good!
Sound seems very very underwhelming for 1800cc
