The best answer to every "Why is parent" question is because they always think that they're right and never wrong. That explains why a lot of kids get in trouble for "talking back" when in all actuality the parent can't suck up their pride and ego and just accept that they're wrong.

Kids also need to learn how to get out of their comfort zone. It’s the parents job to encourage them. But the eye rolling was so not cool.

So true.. so many parents do not truly listen to their children and what they want to do... They often want to look good themselves and use kids as tools to achieve that... Reaction of her mother is really bad... cannot imagine how this girl felt... Those kind of people are the ones that will extinguish the spark in you, who will put you in a uncomfortable spot, and push you to do stuff that you’re not comfortable of doing. • @Lootface
      @Lootface 9 місяців тому +2

It's important to push people outside their comfort zone, that's how barriers are broken, dreams are realized, talents recognized, friends made, worlds changed.
HOWEVER, I do side entirely with you. This is not a push out of a comfort zone. This is shitty parents trying to live vicariously through their daughter, projecting their own shortcomings or regrets on her. The look of disappointment when the mother rolls her eyes is absolute douchebaggery. I hope this girl a.) wants to play this instrument and wasn't forced into it and b.) doesn't let anyone, especially not her parents or people she loves, shut her down or turn her off to her own dreams. It's the people we love that break us down the hardest. She needs a gentle nudge when appropriate, not a forceful shove into her dickhead parents' trophy case.
My wife went through the same thing. Now she has cPTSD and motivational issues, and this video reminded me of what her parents were like the first time I met them. Needless to say, I gather she's happier without them breathing down her neck anymore, and I am sure this girl will be too. I hope her parents realize before they drive their child away.

There’s a thin line between pushing your child to do something you know is good for them and just forcing them to do something. I have parents that want me to be the “perfect” child and always compare me to others. If it was my parents, later they would yell at me for not playing the piano. To anyone who needs it… you don’t have to try to be perfect because that will never be possible. Just be you and do what YOU want to do.

i HATE when parents act like that. I know my parents definitely have. it's a terrible feeling. if she doesn't want to, then don't make her. and then when she freezes up in a situation that YOU put her in, don't roll your eyes. that's just petty and so terrible. you're going to leave your daughter with lasting anxiety and other issues. props to the guy playing the piano who tried to help her out.

I disagree. Whenever i have been forced to do something and then did it, i have felt more accomplished and came out of it stronger and with more confidence to do it later. People are too quick to let normal every day anxieties get in the way of their ability to accomplish things and it makes them weaker and less capable people.

I totally feel her. Had similar experiences with my parents when I was younger and I absolutely hated it every single time. If you say no, they then try to let you feel bad for it and ask you what they pay for your lessons for or if they should sell your piano if you don't want to play anyway. Gone through this, lost my motivation because of it and quit after some time.

Exactly the same with me, I used to love playing my piano but it was for me. I didn’t like playing in front of other people because I was super uncomfortable and nervous and struggled with bad anxiety when I was younger, but my mum always insisted I play to people and would force me into preforming, one time literally shoving me onto the stool, overtime I lost my confidence in playing and as a teenager I would only ever play if she wasn’t in the house, you can’t get it’s never just with one thing too. Pushy parents aren’t just pushy about piano for example, my parents were pushy about grades, exercises, my appearance, relationships… nothing was ever enough for them and their vision of me.

Agreed. Embarrassing your child is bullying & a form of abuse. It's disgusting & unacceptable. The same thing goes with any activity- music, sports & even career choices. Parents have the chance to play an instrument, perform in a theater group, play sports or become a rocket scientist. If their children are not interested or don't feel safe performing, embarrassing them isn't going to change their minds. It WILL make them dislike the activity & grow to resent their bullying parents.
Just say no....if necessary, in front of those they're trying to impress & tell them they are upsetting & embarrassing you. Hopefully that should end their abusive behavior. If I were playing piano & parents did this, I would call them out publicly & say THEY ARE making everyone uncomfortable which isn't what playing music is meant to be.

i stopped wanting to play the violin (15 years of formal lessons), piano (6), and flute (6) in public or even in front of family because of being pressured like this by my parents when i was deeply uncomfortable and insecure. damn at least the joy of music brought a smile to this girls face at the very end, but this was actually really hard to watch 😓😔😔
i despise this mom and her behavior displaying blatant narcissism at the expense of her daughters comfort - this mother should be ashamed for acting this way and whipping out the cameras for her fucktard facebook friends, while her daughter is clearly communicating to her “no; i don’t want to; i’m uncomfortable and nervous”
shame on this mom, and i hope the little girl is still able to hold on to her love of music/performing at her own pace, where she’s comfortable and happy 🥺🩷💛🩵🤘🏽

I have been playing piano and I've been singing ever since I was four and at every single party or gathering we went to I was forced to perform. As I grew older I began to realise how uncomfortable i felt while doing it but I was told that it's a "phase" when everyone's confidence goes down and it's normal that I'm feeling this way. They said that they felt happy and proud when I performed but I feel like my perspective counts too right? So ever since then I promised myself I'm never gonna do this with my kids and I'll only do it if they really want to perform themselves.

      You COULD'NT be more correct.
After years of opera training I still had anxiety & disdain for public performance for this very reason.
I was too young to understand how to disconnect the feeling of anxiety & dread from it once I got into my 20s and let it go.
I'd been offered a scholarship to the Peabody Institute & threw it away.

well as someone with really bad social anxiety and autism i’m gonna say it. the mom was pushing her becuase i’m sure she knew how happy the daughter would’ve been if she played. and by close observation you will realize just before you started to play she felt ready and rested her hands on the keys. then she had seen him play. and then as she was realizing she may not have a chance some guy comes up and starts playing. she may have been nervous but she wanted to play.

It followed me to when I was nine years old and I ran off stage to be sick. When I was 13, I sang with headphones in the car, I was told I couldn't sing again. Adults like this are real pieces of work even if they dont realise it. I'm 25 and even now, I'm nervous singing without headphones in.
