  • This might be my favorite mod I've made to the interior of my Ram...
    In this video I install my custom steering wheel built by the good folks over at Zen Carbon Fiber. The Zen steering wheels are some of the only custom wheels that retain the heating functionality which is not something I was willing to give up heading into winter. Replacing the steering wheel on these Rams is very straight forward once you pop off the air bag. Make sure you allow at least 30 minutes after unplugging the battery before you start digging into the air bag.
    My steering wheel specs are as follows:
    - Flat bottom
    - Gloss regular carbon fiber
    - Silver 12 o'clock stripe
    - Silver stitching
    - Black perforated leather grips
    - Heated function retaining
    Here is a link to Zen's website so you can build and order your own: zencarbonfiber.com/collection...
    Heated steering wheel wiring information: The factory heated wheel has two plugs.
    The white plug is called Heater-Steering C1. There is a DB/GN wire for the power/positive which connects to the RED wire on the Zen wheel and a GY/DB wire for the negative which connects to the larger gauge BLACK wire on the Zen wheel.
    The black plus is called Steering Wheel-Heated. There is a Black wire for the EVIC MUX Return and a DB/BG wire for the Heated Steering Wheel Signal. It does not matter which of the smaller gauge black wires you connect to these wires so long as you make nice solid connections.

    Thank you for posting, definitely very informative. I just placed an order for something similar directly from a manufacturer. It was a little less expensive but definitely up there as far as simple mods go. All in with the same options you chose and a few custom ones I got it for around $600 to $650.

    Did same install on my Rebel. Important part at 20:10 where you discuss alignment of steering wheel hub to plastic piece on column. If you don't get that alignment right, the plastic piece will wander around when turning and make a clicking sound. DAMHIK.

    Just picked mine up, and it came with the proper connectors for the heating element, so I had no wires to splice. It was entirely plug & play, so I'm assuming all the newly made wheels are the same! makes it much easier to install.

    Just received mine today. It looks sweet. Can't wait till this weekend to put it in. Mine looks just like yours, except mine has the blue stitching and blue line on top. I have the 2021 Rebel. Is removal the same as the 2022? I also wanted to buy the plugs for the heater cable but can't find them anywhere. If you have the link for them. Can you share it, please?

      There are links in the video description to the plugs, I’m not sure where you can buy them so you’ll likely have to do some internet browsing to find the parts. May be easier just to removed the plugs and reattach to your new wheel

    Have you had any issues with the heating on this wheel? I've been doing research cus I want your steering wheel but there are cheaper options without heating and others have said they don't do heating behind carbon fiber because it can cause cracking and other issues? So I have a question regarding the installation.. I followed these steps and after my install was complete I went to test drive the truck and noticed multiple clicking sounds and thinking it’s the Clockspring. Is this something common that goes bad? It was working fine before I did the swap.

    • @WaterFowler41
      @WaterFowler41  Рік тому +1

      There’s a white tab inside the clock spring that is pushed down when the wheel is installed. Yours might not be fully depressed hence the clicking.
      Pull the wheel off and take note of where the wheel collar touches the tab and add some strips of tape on that spot so when the wheel is reinstalled, the tape helps push the tab down completely. The tape acts as a spacer.

    • @JustinRCole
      @JustinRCole Рік тому

    So my question is if the original heated stuff for the steering wheel had male plugs couldn’t you just have ordered the female plugs and connected it that way instead of cutting/splicing? Just in case you EVER decided to trade in the truck or just wanted to go back to factory? Obviously for those of us wanting to do mods to a truck that’s not the case but in some instance some people might want to.
    Just asking not criticizing, just was an observation.
