First marathon in Perth ( Australia ) this Sunday and your videos have helped immensely. The training and nutrition tips are great but I find your ways in dealing with phycological aspects have been a game changer for me. You're a legend Scully, appreciate all you do keep up the great work.

So true that you won’t always feel good. Been on a vacation this week and managed to do 2.5 hours yesterday in hot and humid conditions and didn’t once think it was possible until I got it done. This is one of those days I’ll be looking back at when things get hard on race day!

Love your videos Stephen. You don't sugarcoat it like a lot of others! I did my first marathon on Sunday at the age of 44 and weighing 94kg. I finished in 4'33 but aiming for sub4 in London. How do I know when I'm giving it my all? Ie, where should my heart rate be at certain stages of the race. I felt like I could have run all day on Sunday, and ran 60% in zone 2 so feel I had maybe another 10 mins in me but my goal on 1st attempt was just to finish

The extracting fitness from the body point near the end of the video, literally happened to me where my quads gave way, but my HR was still 165-170bpm and I wanted to push more but just couldn’t!! Definitely more leg strength training this block. And more hills!!

Just the perfect video for my upcoming 2nd marathon aiming at Sub4, however since it's a hilly course with 300m+ elevation if I didn't manage to break sub 4 I will just treat it as just another Sunday long run and keep on training for next marathon in 2025! Good luck to all runners aiming for new PB for upcoming marathon events. Cheers!!!

I'm soon going to start laying the foundations for my first Marathon in Belfast next May, and I'm really looking forward to this new challenge.
I just ran my first half-marathon on Sunday in 2:15:50 - Slower than your Marathon average.
Still, my fastest HM in training was 2:45, and before race day I thought 2:30 would've been optimistic based on how those recent 22k long runs felt.
I'll be paying attention to this advice and any other advice you've given for marathon training. Thanks for the upload!

There is no pace in marathon that matters, and I truly mean that.. enjoy whatever pace your body can manage. That’s the only requirement

Do you run your long runs at MP or about 20-30 secs slower than MP?
I’ve done a 20 mile long run at a goal MP and even did 25-30 secs faster than MP for my last or 20th mile… I guess I wanted to see if I can shift into a faster gear when I’m tired …

Regarding the struggle of some of the workouts. Sure, intervals are hard, but doing them at a run club while surrounding yourself with other enthusiasts helps a lot.
For me it's those easy runs where there's a slight breeze, calves still a bit tight, elevated heart rate due to too much coffee, undulating terrain and woosh, you start asking yourself what's going on and why you aren't making any progress despite heading out 5 times a week.
Idk it helps to think that the variation in daily form is bigger than the steps we take on a daily basis

Great advice as always. Got my first road mara in a few weeks (coming from an ultra trail background) and I cannot wrap my head about the workouts to show you have mara fitness. For me doing 8 x 1 mile at mara pace does not fill me with the confidence I will be ok on race day. I watched a sweat elite vid the other day where he said if you can hit 2 x 10km at mara pace as part of a long run, in a normal training week then you could think you can achieve that pace on race day. I did 2 x 6.5 miles with a 4 min float on Sunday and managed to exceed mara pace whilst staying in zone 2 and 3. Still I don't believe this means I can hold it for 26.2 miles. The mindset of a marathon runner is definitely something I need to work on

    • @stephenscullion262
      @stephenscullion262  День тому +1

If you’ve done 8 x mile every week for 12 weeks as an example, at marathon pace, then you’re in pretty good spot. Please don’t do that tho, and follow a good plan, but also try not to do sessions to predict paces, just bank good work. When you plant vegetables, testing them all the time, to see how they’re doing won’t help the final product. Just bank good work, and be patient

Great video, I hope everything is going well with you!!
I've been thinking about getting back into running and preparing for the Cluj-Napoca Marathon (which will take place exactly on my birthday next year in April). That’s where I ran my first road marathon two years ago when I aimed to finish it under 3 hours (and I managed 2 hours and 57 minutes🤯).
That 2-hour 30-minute time you mentioned in the video sounds like an interesting challenge.
I’m going to check out your website tonight, and I think I'll purchase the training plan. I’ve been following your channel long enough to be convinced that following one of your plans would be the best decision for me.🤙🏻🫰🏻
