- A rather subdued final network appearance from the BBC One balloon, in the early hours of Friday 29th March 2002. Somewhat appropriate though using the balloon having landed in London's Docklands.
I remember staying up past 2:00am to see this, and that is all we got. Wasn’t worth it.

Yeah, this wasn't received well by various TV forums at the time! Wonder why no special announcement was made - they'd done one for BBC2 a few months earlier, and indeed made a big deal about the end of the Rhythm & Movement idents four years later. Maybe the need to go into News 24 at a specific time made it unworkable.
There were special announcements in Scotland, Wales and NI. Network ought to be ashamed
"Tomorrow we are scrapping the balloon for the laughs. Screw off change haters."

Do you have the Wales and Northern Ireland versions of BBC One's final balloon appearance from the same day with the clock and David Canham (Wales only) and Michael Selby (Northern Ireland only)'s final announcement for the balloon?
Sadly, they did not.
As such, the latter's final use of the balloon used to be on UA-cam, but sadly is not there anymore.
Did they use a balloon Ident before BBC Breakfast that day or one of the dancers?
The dancers - the Capoeira one from memory.
No they didn't, also the first Dancers ident came at 9am right after BBC News 24.
I couldn’t believe that we lost all those years of the globe and the clock and then had prats in red leotards prancing around with the announcer saying “now it’s time for the Ten O’Clock News”. God only knows what we’re about to subjected to with the new delayed BBC One idents. Mind you it’s got to be better than the one in the keep fit class that doesn’t even know the steps. How did that ever make it to a final cut?
Why do they think we want to see groups of random people? First the dancers.. (then that BORING circle theme)... and then the groups of walkers/keep fitters etc...? Do they think we sit at home and think "Hey, look, those are people doing things! I'm a people that does things! This channel is so relatable to me!"? Because that seems like such a basic idea that never went beyond the first stage. It's so unimaginative and moreso uninspired.
