Angelina is a genius and this performance puts any doubt of that to rest. You're beginning to understand how incredibly captivating this girl is and has been at least since she was 7. Do yourselves a favour and go back to the beginning and check out her Norway's Got Talent (NorskeTalenter) performances and there you'll see that she has always been this good. There is no other artist that I know of who's more skilled, versatile, mesmerizing, and well-documented as she is. Plus, at 17, she's six-feet tall stunningly beautiful. Everyone says the wrong age. She wasn't 7 and she wasn't 10. She was NINE years old and she arranged this herself. This is her tribute to Screaming Jay Hawkins and she KILLS it. I always listen with complete amazement. I drive 9 year olds to school everyday. NONE of them are this talented. She is a prodigy for sure. At age 7 she won Norway's Got Talent and she's still performing today. Amazing singer.

*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are.
Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. @@Chris1969o Its not because of any reference to suicide. That's what a lazy person would say. AJ could have changed the lyrics as she has done on many others. My belief, and this isnt in stone, is the demo was so good, it couldnt be released. AJ's family is very protective of her, and this song would have driven too much attention to AJ and possibly put the family in a bad position. To release the song would have forced them to put AJ out in the world at age 11, whether they were with a label or not. (11, because this was recorded only 2 weeks before her 11th birthday) The family decided to wait, and that led to them working a deal with Simon to get her exposure on AGT Champions. Simon wanted her badly, but, they turned his offer down until eventually Republic gave them an offer they couldnt say no to when she was 14.
@@murtheblur I agree with your theory for why AJ's family didn't want I'm Still Holding Out For You released. It likely would have been a big hit and that is big pressure on an 11 year old. Without being signed to a record deal, the pressure to do so would have been great. Once an artist has a big hit, people will forget about the artist if another hit doesn't come along within a year or so.
This is nothing like midler's version. Angelina schooled the rest with this one, master class!

This Hocus Pocus thing is occasionally mentioned when people try to remember the original, but actually the song that Bette Midler sang in the movie has absolutely nothing in common with Jay's original aside from the line "I put a spell on you". Next song by Angelina: I'm still holding out for you" 10 year old was asked to do a demo of this song which was written by Baby Fuss and a couple of other guys who knew Angelina. The demo was never sent to Baby Fuss and her family did not want her rendition of the song released. Later someone leaked the song and has never been taken down by her nor her family. Baby Fuss later released his version of the song (very close to Angelina's version) which went no where. What she did with the song is absolutely unbelievable for a 10 yo (almost as unbelievable as 'I Put a Spell on You')! Oh and he did not release his version until AFTER Angelina's was leaked, so technically Angelina's is the original and his is a cover! Many think that her family did not want the recording she did released because they realized just how good it was, and knew it would probably hit #1 on the charts. The did not want that for her at 10 years old. They have always wanted her to have a (as much as possible) normal childhood!
My suggestions would be: 1) I'm Still Holding Out For You, 2) Feeling Good (age 10, 'LIVE on The Stream Gir Tilbake', 3) Seventh Heaven (her own song. Think she was 14), 4) Shield (again, her own song. Believe she was 12). I have at least a dozen others (Lol!) but this is a great start. You can't go wrong with Angelina. Seriously. 😎👍

Angelina was nine when she wrote her book. She is the youngest Norwegian citizen to have written a book and to get published. She wrote four songs and recorded them by the time she was twelve years old. Angelina has accomplished more in life by the time she was nine and ten years that most people will in their entire lives.

For fans of your age (and mine) it's gratifying to find such an enormous talent among so much mediocrity in the current music scene. Recommendations? Anything among the more than 500 videos that she has edited on YT, but I recommend that it be from 10-11 years old, because until that age, everything she did is so amazing, it's hard to believe it as what you just finished to listen.

what folks dont realize is that she had been listening to and studying and practicing singing and music from the jazz and blues greats for 8 years, since she was one and a half. You just witnessed the greatest performance of a song by a child ever.

If you do one song every three or four weeks, you will be long gone before you reach one tenth of her catalog. Currently at 200 +. Basically 95% are truly master class.

great reaction again! Asking us to pick one song is difficult: how she sings "I'd rather go blind" sitting down is unbelievable and gives you a good idea what she's capable of. ' I'm still holding out for you" is vocally amazing but you dont see her life. " Feeling good" at 10 also is incredible. But so many of her performances are just awsome. The way she makes you feel the music and conveys emotion makes AJ unique!

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.
Angelina does Adele better than Adele! Also her cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die" really shows off her vibrato. Her cover of "Mercy" from the movie soundtrack "The Hating Game", shows a different aspect of her talent.
What's so amazing is you went into this knowing it must be something fantastic and you came out of it realizing it was even way more than you could have thought it would be. The Norwegian barefoot princess now living in LA is the best young female vocalist we have today - Now 17 years old. Angelina sings better than already established world stars. No one can stop Angelina from becoming a world star. That's just how it is! Her first album will be released in 2023 with Republic Records.
Over the years, she will become a legend for the great moments in the world. She has plenty of time. Remember she is just 17 tears old, which we forget when we see her perform. Republic Records who should also be praised for appreciating this unique talent.

Thank you for continuing to feature Angelina on your channel. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on UA-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
Good review....I think the next one you should react to is her cover of Elvis - Suspicious Minds. Her arrangement is fantastic as well as her singing. The video is also very well done.
There is nothing wrong with the other songs in the pole 😊 only the Fans didn't think you were ready for them quite Yet 😂
She lets the lyrics take her wherever they do, and in the process will re-imagine some of those lyrics to better match her interpretation of the author's intent, and then she sings...dear Lord does she sing. We get to see, hear and feel some of the beauty of her soul as she emotes those lyrics with that gorgeous voice. And she always leaves you wanting more.
Guys, It’s a must to watch six year old Angelina’s cover of, “I Who Have Nothing”. It is one of her first studio sessions and it leaves you jaw dropped.

Check out her audition at 7 for Norway Got Talent & her subsequent 3 other number on that show. She won by 8. In less than a year, these numbers she performed showed to me at least, her already rapid progression in vocals. There is one out of her in a studio at 6 doing a Tom Jones number & for the life of me the title just slipped my mind. What I found having seen so many of her Utube numbers, is how she selects certain pieces as a form of vocal exercises. There are pieces that aren't my favourite, but then they never were even by the original artist. But each one demonstrates a stage in her vocal gymnastics. She is years above her age in technique. At 17 now, the word is out she will be dropping her first album with Republic Records this year. Oh, she has been known to write her own material. She's done several before signing with Republic records at 14. A few more even with them. So enjoy the Angelina rabbit hole.
I Who Have Nothing
Thing is .. the voice is an instrument. There are people who can play the piano and it sounds great .. and then there are piano virtuosos .. people who are on an all together next level of skill. In this case .. Angelina has total control of her instrument at this young age already .. and like with a fine wine only got better with age. She is currently 17 .. and I see suggestions she is something like 6'1" .. and women don't fully develop their voice until 25-27 .. seems .. interesting times a coming ..

I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point.
Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her.

Thanks for reacting to my favorite singer. Song recommendation depends upon at which age you want to react, but if you want to hear her more recent stuff I would recommend either her cover of Elvis's "Suspicious Minds" which is very jazzy or her recent studio cover of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" which is sung in the same style as the original.

This came out close to a year after she won Norway's Got Talent Season 2014 as a new 8 year old. But let's go back just a smidge further to the video that introduced Angelina Jordan Astar to the world. The video I speak of is her audition for NGT, from Billie Holiday's "GLOOMY SUNDAY." Watching a little girl with bare feet, mussy hair (Amy Winehouse influence?), with her permanent teeth still growing in, sing like she did has the mark of child prodigy all over it. The video I attached below has English subtitles with some brief pre-post content. Watching Angelina struggling to get into the interview chair shows just how young she was. I recommend watching this specific video, as we will hear Angelina talking about herself for the first time. The judges were astounded by what they saw and heard. They had no idea who she was or the skill she has in arranging and performing jazz classics. After her performance, we hear the judges speak amongst themselves about Angelina.

- At approx. 0:27 into the video we see 1 year old Juliette in her father's arms. One of Angelina's first originals, "WHAT IS LIFE," has Angelina calling Juliette the love of her life (video link below). We will later see Juliette appear in 3 of Angelina's music videos. This jazz song is something out of time, and at the end has perhaps the longest run(s) in all of her performances. Angelina is a beast when it comes to jazz.
- At the end of the video you will catch a glimpse of grandmother Mery Zamani. Mery is Angelina's greatest fan and mentor. Mery was a child prodigy as well, but in the fields of art and poetry. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. I see that many "Angels" (Angie's fans) are requesting her cover of "I'm Still Holding Out For You", which is also one of my favorites when she was 10 years old, but it's a recording. That is her own band for about a year at that time. She and her family hired them full time after she won Norway's Got Talent at age 7and 8. You are listening to the greatest female vocalist to ever live as you will conclude eventually. English was her third language of four. Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese. She plays several instruments. She turned 17 on January 10th. Her first album of originals is finished and should be released this summer. She signed to Republic Records at age 14 but she and family have asked that she not be promoted until she matures enough to handle the music business. She maintains her artist freedoms in that contract with Republic as she has always arranged her own music since day 1.

The original was such an outrageous piece of shock rock that, even though many, many artists have covered it since, none has dared to go too close to the full-on style of that original out of fear of ridicule...9 year old Angelina: "Hold my shoes!"....she just replaces all SJH's moments of outrageousness with pure musicality and fearlessness...this is probably the best this song's ever been done - ever!

She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss.
You guys do a great job and you've now watched AJ's top two. You'll now get many varied suggestions. For my money, I'd recommend you watch her very first recording studio effort at 6 years old as I think you can actually see her become a seasoned vet with just the song. She begins the first line obviously nervous at the unknown, sings a line and by line two you hear her slide into it, probably losing that nervousness right there. At her next line she gets out her first little best and by then she grins and jumps up and down because I assume she knows she owns it all, which she indicates a few lines later with a thumbs up, probably to her family. At six and under such conditions, it's obviously not Angelina's best (though I'm sure it's better than any 6 year old has ever done) but it's certainly a wow and fun. "I Who Have Nothing"

I've seen too many reactions on AJ! So I started to filter somewhat! (Prefer voice coaches and singers and other musicians) Since reactions start to look the same. That's also true with reactions on I put a spell on you, covered by her. Mostly people start to be confused about what they see (her age) and what they hear. The quality and the power and the experience in her performance is simply too good for her age! And than they are speechless! Use the same words over and over again (amazing, unbelievable, mind-blowing etc). But somehow for me it's never boring to see this video of her! It's really a masterpiece, and not many professional adult singers would be able to sing it as impactful as she did! It's full of advanced musical and technical interesting details, she seems to feel that are right at place! Some of them I only noticed after so many times of relistening!
