I know this may sound crazy but in my opinion this is the greatest vocal performance by a 9 year old child in the history of music. I will continue to hold that opinion until someone shows me a better one. I am not just talking about the technical aspects of singing. When you consider the style she used, the depth of her voice at times, the various vocal techniques she used, her involvement in the arrangement, the soul and emotion she conveyed, etc, I don’t think anyone at 9 years old has ever come close to this.
The Greatest Performance Ever by The Greatest of all Time. A few minor notes. 1. She was 9 yrs 2 months old. 2. She does her own arrangements 3. The picture on the candle was Screaming Jay Hawkins, the original singer. 4. The notes were her wishes for changes to the arrangement given to the band director. Totally amazing.
To really understand the genius of this performance, you have to see the original that she's honouring. Screamin' Jay was a blues madman (that's him on the candle with the bone through his nose). Somehow, this little 9-year old girl found this song, found the music in it, and then spat it out and said "There, I fixed it for you." This isn't just a vocal tour-de-force (which it is) it is a work of near-genius.. This is one of the best versions of this song I have ever heard - and I've heard plenty. 😎
First Angelina listens to the original song. Next she creates her own arrangement and directs the musicians on how she wants to sing the song. Angelina seemingly has fully embodied the song and her vocals are only limited by the physical limitations of her 9 year 2 month old body. Angelina is a music prodigy unlike any other. She is an even better human being, humble and filled with empathy.

You need to go back 3 years to when she was 6, and her first time in a studio, and listen to her version of "I Who Have Nothing" originally sang by Shirley Bassey and later by by Tom Jones. But since you’re new to Angelina, what you don’t know is that she will give you this same degree of authenticity and originality across many genres. To give you an idea of how perfectly Angelina can match her voice and performance to a genre, watch her at 11 (she’s 9 here, by the way) singing Cole Porter’s “Every Time We Say Goodbye”. I have known Angelina since she was two years old. Yes, Norwegian (Bokmal) is her native language but so essentially is English. She has spoken both literally from the time she could speak. There was no learning curve for her in speaking English. She learned English and her native Norwegian at the same time. This is why she has no dialect when speaking English. When she was a tiny girl everyone spoke both languages with her. When I was visiting even when she was four and five years old we would talk together in English and Norwegian. People assume she had to learn English later on. This is not true. So, when she was tiny singing in English she knew what she was singing in any song. I will also tell you something most of you fans probably do not know. I have sat with her listening to jazz vocalists such as Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington when she was very young (4, 5, and 6 years of age) and we would listen to a song together three or four times and after that she knew the song completely having memorized all the lyrics, all the tune after just those few times we listened to it. Then she would sing the song back to me word for word, note for note, perfectly. Another thing is that voice she has now at 15 was already there when she was very young. Of course over the years she has matured, is still maturing, vocally but the range, vibrato, the Jazz inflections, everything was already there just waiting for time and good vocal coaching to bring it out as she grew. Further you must know she is the most kind hearted, loving, and empathetic human being I have ever known. Her family protect her to the utmost. She goes nowhere without they are with her. She enters no room without one of them along watching out for her. She will not be one of those young people who are ruined by the bad elements in the music industry. I know there is no ceiling to her talent. She will go down in the history of music as one of the finest singers who ever lived. I consider myself so lucky and blessed to know her. There is not a sweeter, dearer soul in this world. Lastly I will tell you that i remember sitting in a living room as she sang one jazz song or another when she was about six years old and even then her voice could go from the most breathy, delicate whisper to perfectly controlled volume so that the windows behind the sofa I was sitting on vibrated in their frames. Thank you for being a fan. She truly loves her fan base. There is so much more she will show you in the years to come. Plans are already underway to launch her career to the highest heights while her family sees to it that she lives as normal a life as possible along the way. I don’t get to see her as much as I used to but we talk regularly as she checks up on me to see how I am doing and to let me know what’s coming up next. Your reaction is a very good example of what’s called ‘cognitive dissonance’. It’s where your shouldn’t go together and it leaves you speechless. In this case it’s the sound coming out her mouth that you are hearing and how young she looks.
Nine years and two months old. Now to really make it more discombobulated for you. She arranged the lyrics and instruments to her liking. The note she gave to the conductor were changes to the piano. She called them her wishes. The members of this band affectionately refer to her as the boss. You can see her rehearsal with them on “Portrait of a Man”, which she renamed “Portrait of a Child”. You are in for a wild ride.

Gee G, when there are no words to describe a performance like this - well, it is literally beyond words. Normally, she does her recordings in 1 take - sometimes 2 but if you'll notice, this was filmed in 2 locations and she is using 2 different mikes to do it; In the beginning you'll notice the band director going over some changes and sort of gives a small smile when he reads those changes. Angelina made those changes herself and she is known to create all of the arrangements herself or at the very least has direct and substantial collaboration in the process. IMO, we will probably not see one such as her again in our lifetime. She says that she taught herself to sing from listening to albums of her favorite artists. Well, say what you want but no one could do what she does without some strong connections with a higher power. She alludes to this in a couple of interviews where she makes reference to an alternate states of mind when she performs. She is a gift and I appreciate that the Universe/God saw fit to bless us with her presence.

Angelina completely rearranged this song and made it her own. The original singer was Screaming Jay Hawkins, the man on the candle. You should listen to his song. Angelina did the same with Bohemian Rhapsody, completely rearranged it and made it her own. In fact, Angelina has rearranged all 130+ of her covers, some more than others.

The song was written by Baby Fuzz and was sent to Angelina to perform. Her parents didn't want her to release the song because of the final lyrics. It was then covered by the Baby Fuzz himself after being unable to find anyone willing/able to perform it. Possibly, resulting in the only case where the original artist covered their own song! It's also never been 'officially' disclosed as to who leaked it afterwards.

I consider her a songrighter. Most versions of this song by the songwriter Jay Hawkins are a few decades after his 1956 recording, and he resorted to cartoonish lampoon as his 'one hit wonder' version. Angelina's HAS to be much more like he wrote it, on piano, back then. His original recording is infamously pegged as "at the end of a long, drunken day" and isn't very smooth or clear. Angelina's has that smooth, almost rapier-like quality piercing thru everything with precise cuts and parries. By the way, this is easily my favorite vocal performance. Ever. I found a hundred other examples where she's delivering such grand performances, too, as if she's channeling so many other artists so appropriately.

Angelina is 9 here and she sings in English! That's her third language. You know she's from Norway. There, everyone speaks Norwegian. From the age of 6, Angelina read and sing English texts and understand what everything means! She is amazing in many ways.
what you were watching... screamin' jay hawkins wrote and first performed that song in 1955. the black and white with the sound of an 8mm projector running in the background represents the time period and in the beginning, she displays a picture of screamin' jay. as i'm sure you know by now angelina way 9 yrs and 2 months old when she did this performance and every detail from start to finish was her. angelina has done many covers, my advice to her would be to stop with all of the covers, they dilute her uniqueness in the marketplace so make the fans wait with excitement for her next release to keep it fresh.
Yeah listen to that lil doll, just nine years old. Its her homage to the 1950ies Jazz classic by Screaming Jay Hawkins (that guy on the candle she showed at the beginning). Yes, you'll be hardpressed to find anything remotely similar by any other 9 year old. It's her last performance that still let you hear a bit of the kid. Loved watching your head explode! I would say that this is without a doubt the most epic jazz performance by a nine-year-old ever, bar none, and I might go so far to call it one of the greatest jazz performances by a female vocalist of any age. When you said you don't want to bother with the original, I get that. Angelina's covers are almost always better than the original, and that includes Adele, Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald, or Billie Holiday.

I know this may sound crazy but in my opinion this is the greatest vocal performance by a 9 year old child in the history of music. I will continue to hold that opinion until someone shows me a better one. I am not just talking about the technical aspects of singing. When you consider the style she used, the depth of her voice at times, the various vocal techniques she used, her involvement in the arrangement, the soul and emotion she conveyed, etc, I don’t think anyone at 9 years old has ever come close to this.

To really understand the genius of this performance, you have to see the original that she's honouring. Screamin' Jay was a blues madman (that's him on the candle with the bone through his nose). Somehow, this little 9-year old girl found this song, found the music in it, and then spat it out and said "There, I fixed it for you." This isn't just a vocal tour-de-force (which it is) it is a work of near-genius.. This is one of the best versions of this song I have ever heard - and I've heard plenty. 😎

You need to go back 3 years to when she was 6, and her first time in a studio, and listen to her version of "I Who Have Nothing" originally sang by Shirley Bassey and later by by Tom Jones. But since you’re new to Angelina, what you don’t know is that she will give you this same degree of authenticity and originality across many genres. To give you an idea of how perfectly Angelina can match her voice and performance to a genre, watch her at 11 (she’s 9 here, by the way) singing Cole Porter’s “Every Time We Say Goodbye”. It’s a complete opposite of what you just heard, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Then maybe her recent cover of Billie Jean to see her musicality and fearlessness in stepping outside the lines.

I have known Angelina since she was two years old. Yes, Norwegian (Bokmal) is her native language but so essentially is English. She has spoken both literally from the time she could speak. There was no learning curve for her in speaking English. She learned English and her native Norwegian at the same time. This is why she has no dialect when speaking English. When she was a tiny girl everyone spoke both languages with her. When I was visiting even when she was four and five years old we would talk together in English and Norwegian. People assume she had to learn English later on. This is not true. So, when she was tiny singing in English she knew what she was singing in any song. I will also tell you something most of you fans probably do not know. I have sat with her listening to jazz vocalists such as Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington when she was very young (4, 5, and 6 years of age) and we would listen to a song together three or four times and after that she knew the song completely having memorized all the lyrics, all the tune after just those few times we listened to it. Then she would sing the song back to me word for word, note for note, perfectly. Another thing is that voice she has now at 15 was already there when she was very young. Of course over the years she has matured, is still maturing, vocally but the range, vibrato, the Jazz inflections, everything was already there just waiting for time and good vocal coaching to bring it out as she grew. Further you must know she is the most kind hearted, loving, and empathetic human being I have ever known. Her family protect her to the utmost. She goes nowhere without they are with her. She enters no room without one of them along watching out for her. She will not be one of those young people who are ruined by the bad elements in the music industry. I know there is no ceiling to her talent. She will go down in the history of music as one of the finest singers who ever lived. I consider myself so lucky and blessed to know her. There is not a sweeter, dearer soul in this world. Lastly I will tell you that i remember sitting in a living room as she sang one jazz song or another when she was about six years old and even then her voice could go from the most breathy, delicate whisper to perfectly controlled volume so that the windows behind the sofa I was sitting on vibrated in their frames. Thank you for being a fan. She truly loves her fan base. There is so much more she will show you in the years to come. Plans are already underway to launch her career to the highest heights while her family sees to it that she lives as normal a life as possible along the way. I don’t get to see her as much as I used to but we talk regularly as she checks up on me to see how I am doing and to let me know what’s coming up next. I am so happy I subscribe to you. You really DO get it. This girls singing, on video at 1 1/2 years old, is an anomaly! Many believe she is going to be one of the greatest vocalist in history. This was performed at 9 years old. 🌺
Gee G, when there are no words to describe a performance like this - well, it is literally beyond words. Normally, she does her recordings in 1 take - sometimes 2 but if you'll notice, this was filmed in 2 locations and she is using 2 different mikes to do it; In the beginning you'll notice the band director going over some changes and sort of gives a small smile when he reads those changes. Angelina made those changes herself and she is known to create all of the arrangements herself or at the very least has direct and substantial collaboration in the process. IMO, we will probably not see one such as her again in our lifetime. She says that she taught herself to sing from listening to albums of her favorite artists. Well, say what you want but no one could do what she does without some strong connections with a higher power. She alludes to this in a couple of interviews where she makes reference to an alternate states of mind when she performs. She is a gift and I appreciate that the Universe/God saw fit to bless us with her presence.
Actually, she grew up listening, and absorbing, her grandmother's collection of forties and fifties jazz records. :)

She covered Shirley Bassey "DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER"Proysenfestivalen 21.07.2017 at 11 years old. She was 13 when she performed "Bohemian Rhapsody". Will turn 16 on January 10, 2022. I believe her first live on stage performance after winning Norway's Got Talent at 8 years old is "WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES" with a great band and back up singers to a large outdoor audience. If you recall, when she did Bohemian Rhapsody ON AGT, she said she was 13. Today she is 15. At the time she performed this song here she was 9 yrs old. Angelina completely rearranged this song and made it her own. The original singer was Screaming Jay Hawkins, the man on the candle. You should listen to his song. Angelina did the same with Bohemian Rhapsody, completely rearranged it and made it her own. In fact, Angelina has rearranged all 130+ of her covers, some more than others.

The song was written by Baby Fuzz and was sent to Angelina to perform. Her parents didn't want her to release the song because of the final lyrics. It was then covered by the Baby Fuzz himself after being unable to find anyone willing/able to perform it.
Possibly, resulting in the only case where the original artist covered their own song!
It's also never been 'officially' disclosed as to who leaked it afterwards.

Your rapid and acute insights into Angelina are actually quite impressive. Not the usual stuff heard from reactors. That, by itself, raises an interest in your own musical roots. If it is not too much trouble, would you please share a little bit of your musical background with the viewer?
I consider her a songrighter. Most versions of this song by the songwriter Jay Hawkins are a few decades after his 1956 recording, and he resorted to cartoonish lampoon as his 'one hit wonder' version. Angelina's HAS to be much more like he wrote it, on piano, back then. His original recording is infamously pegged as "at the end of a long, drunken day" and isn't very smooth or clear. Angelina's has that smooth, almost rapier-like quality piercing thru everything with precise cuts and parries. By the way, this is easily my favorite vocal performance. Ever. I found a hundred other examples where she's delivering such grand performances, too, as if she's channeling so many other artists so appropriately.
She has, I believe, 6 of her own songs, the latest being 'Million Miles'.

Angelina is 9 here and she sings in English! That's her third language. You know she's from Norway. There, everyone speaks Norwegian. From the age of 6, Angelina read and sing English texts and understand what everything means! She is amazing in many ways.
what you were watching... screamin' jay hawkins wrote and first performed that song in 1955. the black and white with the sound of an 8mm projector running in the background represents the time period and in the beginning, she displays a picture of screamin' jay. as i'm sure you know by now angelina way 9 yrs and 2 months old when she did this performance and every detail from start to finish was her. angelina has done many covers, my advice to her would be to stop with all of the covers, they dilute her uniqueness in the marketplace so make the fans wait with excitement for her next release to keep it fresh.
Yeah listen to that lil doll, just nine years old. Its her homage to the 1950ies Jazz classic by Screaming Jay Hawkins (that guy on the candle she showed at the beginning). Yes, you'll be hardpressed to find anything remotely similar by any other 9 year old.

I would say that this is without a doubt the most epic jazz performance by a nine-year-old ever, bar none, and I might go so far to call it one of the greatest jazz performances by a female vocalist of any age. When you said you don't want to bother with the original, I get that. Angelina's covers are almost always better than the original, and that includes Adele, Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald, or Billie Holiday.

... and as you cannot react on Angelina exclusively (why not?), here another really outstanding (not just "good", but really outstanding as this one...) performance and artist I discovered recently: MISIA sings "Ashitae" on THE FIRST TAKE - insane! Never seen such an emotional and powerful performance, she sings her heart and soul out, and at the highest possible level of vocal artistry! Misia wrote this song in 2011 to support people and give hope after the terrible east Japan eartquake, now she rerecorded it in a one take live performance in regard of Covid... never have heard that much despair and at the same time strong will to carry on and help others who are affected even worse... in the end she gives us a 25 sec. belt which is a cry and a prayer and the most heartbreaking thing I've ever witnessed in music! Don't miss this! (Ashitae means "To Tomorrow"...) ((only thing I could compare this to emotionally is Lara Fabian singing "Je suis malade", in case you know that one...))
