Her EP release earlier this year is all her material and what a statement she makes dancing through genres with ease and bringing her message forward. Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. Nine year old Angelina did create the arrangement of this song. Even at the age of seven the musicians that accompanied her called her “The Boss” because she knew what she wanted the arrangement to sound like.
It was at this age of nine that Angelina wrote her book, “Between Two Hearts”. Angelina became the youngest Norwegian citizen to have written a book and then have it be published. She speaks four languages and plays four instruments. She literally is a bona fide musical genius.
She was doing her own arrangements by at least 8 & maybe even 7. She analyzes the lyrics first, then sings it the way she feels it, rather than just following the original artists version. Sometimes the way she feels it is similar to the original & sometimes it's totally different. Very often she slows it down to allow the song to breathe & for her to add her many vocal decorations.

Yes, she’s that good. You probably thought her fans were exaggerating how good she was after Bohemian Rhapsody. No, very simply, Angelina is easily the best singer I’ve ever heard. You said something very perceptive about how she understood the genre in today’s song. Angelina doesn’t sing in different genres-she inhabits them-from jazz to blues to soul to power ballads to r&b and more. From age 7 to now 17, she will blow you away.

Great 2nd reaction! Let me tell you, you have just entered quite the rabbit hole. I think you may have understood as much already. You know what's crazy with her ? It's the fact that you actually don't need suggestions for your next reaction. I guess it may sound like hyperbole, but it really isn't. Every single one of the videos you will find from her on the internet is guaranteed to blow you away. She is that good and that special. Now you have seen her at 13 and 9, so if you want to see how she was introduced to the "masses" (the viewers in Norway ) then I think you should check out her audition for Norway's Got Talent when she was 7. She performed Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holiday in a way that made it clear right off the bat that she was incredibly extraordinary. She went on to win the whole competition at age 8. She got 46% of the total votes, going against the other 9 finalists from all age groups. However, if you want to hear one of my favorites from when she was 15, then react to her black and white studio recording (Republic Records' studio) of Adele's Easy On Me. Yep, another great arrangement by Angelina Jordan. She's been singing since she was eighteen months. 2015 was a banner year for her, as her book was published that year as well. In it, she tells the story of why she sings barefoot after giving her shoes to a shoeless girl in the Middle East a few years before. This video is already legend. Not a day goes by without a reactor doing this. And it's all Angelina's work. She looks back at the end when she doesn't seek consensus from adults, but she holds her chin in her hand thoughtfully, as if she were thinking: "maybe I could have done that step better..."
You've only seen two Angelina covers, although the most famous, there are another 200 + a dozen originals to peruse all of the highest caliber and other legendary performances. I recommend her her original "Million Miles" (the studio version), composed to commemorate her grandfather and for all those who have lost a loved one.

This is not true. First of all, there are 3 performances before that one. She is visible younger in them and her voice is not as developed. Secondly, I Who Have Nothing was recorded after Gloomy Sunday, because in the audition her new left tooth was a bit shorter than in IWHN. This has been proven by zoomed in screenshots.
Angelina’s grandma, Mery Zamani was a child prodigy in her own right. Grandma Mery is a world renowned painter and poet. The leader of Japan owns two of Mery’s paintings. Mery loves the old jazz classics and and artists. Angelina grew up listening to the classic jazz artists such as Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and even Nina Simone and she fell in love with the genre. Angelina said that if it wasn’t for her love of Billy Holiday there would be no Angelina Jordan.

Angelina has recordings on UA-cam from age 18 months singing to Whitney (very cute), then aged 6 in a studio a Shirley Bassey hit, 7 her first audition on Norways Got Talent, three more performances on this show which she won just after turning 8, many, many more aged 9 (you’ve just watched), 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and currently 17. Some are live at concerts, tv shows etc, some just chilling at home with a friend accompanying her on a guitar, some studio recordings, some videos. Mostly covers of many great singers, and to date 11 originals! You can’t go wrong whatever you choose, they are all amazing!

You were wise in telling your daughter that hard work is important. From what I've been able to tell, AJ was singing 3 to 4 hours a day when she was very young and that became 6 hours a day later. She did get a head start, she was found singing a Whitney Houston song in her crib when she was 18 months old and she was walking around with a tablet selecting music to listen to when she was 2 or 3. She has been a jazz singer (now goddess tier) since she first heard Billie Holiday as a toddler, said she instantly connected to the deep emotions. Hard to compete with that level of dedication?
I'd heard that her grandmother was a big jazz fan and that was, at least in part, where she got her love of jazz from.
I don't think she's ever said how old she was when she first heard Billie Holiday, just that it was on a night she couldn't get to sleep, so she "borrowed" her mother's iPad "to listen to jazz on UA-cam". That use of that word "borrowed" ("lånte" in the original Norwegian) makes it sound like she was probably a little older than a toddler. (Note that I'm not objecting to the idea that she could use YT on her own when she was still a baby. I know we have been told that she could. I'm just suggesting that if she were actually a _toddler_ who was up after midnight and couldn't fall asleep, her mother would have been a little more "actively involved" in the process of getting her to sleep than the word "borrowed" seems to imply.)
BTW, a short article about her from 2016 or 2017 (not sure which) said she discovered Billie after having already gotten into Frank Sinatra and Dinah Washington ("solidifying Angelina's passion for singing", the article says), so she was already singing jazz when she came across Billie.

She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz.
Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate.
At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on UA-cam went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on UA-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On UA-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Nice reaction, as you will find out Angelina is not just a Child singer , she is a child that sings at a level , many 30 plus pros are striving to attain. Then add her arranging prowess and we have one of the greatest talents to grace our world..
The barefoot princess is absolutely an angel sent from heaven. She also did the arrangement to this, that was the paper she was handing to the gentleman at the beginning of the video. Now you have to do age 7 fly me to the moon. There’s a video on it also. The barefoot princess is absolutely a musical genius, and as far as I’m concerned, the best I’ve ever heard in my life. Thank you for reacting to this and don't worry, NO ONE EVER has heard another 9-year-old sing as skillfully as her. She has such a huge variety of techniques and vast range of vocal tones, that it's almost impossible to comprehend but in addition she has a story-teller's talent too.

Angelina did arrange this. In fact you can see the band director smiling as he reads her last minute changes to the arrangement, and you can see her referring to her notes on the stand in her recording booth. Other items of note in the pre-video - the woman is her grandmother Mery Zumani, a world-renowned visual artist and Angelina's muse. It was Mery that introduced Angelina to the jazz greats at an early age. The face on the candle she is holding is Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the artist who wrote and first recorded this song in 1956. Angelina's version is a tribute to that original. Also note the bare feet. I'm sure the story is told in another comment here somewhere, but Angelina has vowed to always perform barefoot until all the children in the world have shoes. Angelina not only has a big voice, but a big heart as well.
She has been arranging her own performances since she was on Norway’s Got Talent, it’s one of the things the judges were blown away with, as they knew she was a superior talent and destined to be a superstar. She was 7 - 8 years old at that time.

You should go back and watch her first time in a studio at age 6 (and of course, kills it!) and all of her Norway’s Got Talent videos. At age 11 she opened for Norah Jones in South Korea and at age 12, she was invited to Quincy Jones open his 85th
birthday concert in London. Her rehearsal video of “Fly Me to the Moon” shows off her beautiful voice. It is my favorite performance.
Yes prior to this session there is a video of her at age 9, where she is discussing musical arrangements with the producers and several band members. This is why they nicknamed her the BOSS. Also Angelina have other several nicknames as you will eventually discover. One of my favorite nickname for her is THE TRANSFORMER because whichever great music performer she covers, strangely enough the voice tones and features of these great music performers are like being channeled by Angelina. Then, on 6 Jan 2020 her performance of Bohemian Rhapsody was released, and suddenly that number became over 300. Yes she is said to have arranged this based on the original version by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. That’s his picture on the candle that she is holding at the beginning of the video. The notes she is writing down are last minute changes or “wishes” as she called them, that she wanted to make.
Although not released until September 2016 this was actually recorded about March 2015 when she was 9.

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

I recommend that performance too but she was 7 as it was recorded after Gloomy Sunday. In that audition her new left tooth was a bit shorter than in IWHN. This has been proven by zoomed in screenshots.

This is Angelina's own arrangement of the Screaming Jay Hawkins original, which is worth checking out to see what she has achieved here. She has been singing since she was one-and-a-half years old and has had little actual tuition. Why does Angelina sing barefoot? The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.

One thing you should know there are clips of her singing with a mike from 1 and 1/2 years old. You literally watch her develope through singing songs by all the great artists. No one in the family is a musician or singer. They knew how to nurture a prodigy because her grandmother was a famous child prodigy poet and artist. She encouraged Angelina to write a diary from 6 years old. Angelina now 17 now says she has a 100 songs in her notebooks. She has recently put out her EP OLD ENOUGH of origional songs, but her first origional song performed on tv age 12 was SHIELD. After winning Norways Got Talent, 7 at audition and 8 by the final, her parents were advised against any vocal coaching that would interfere. So only had coaching focused on breath control and protection. Instead she was given piano guitar, flute and violin lessons. We know from clips she still plays the piano and guitar. So never expect her voice to sound the same way twice as she used the covers to learn and push her limits and by emulating certain aspects of vocal greats , had mastered control of the timber, texture, tone, vibrato and colour of her voice. Now she can flex it any which way she pleases. She is a true artist and only shows you what is needed to convey the emotion and meaning of the lyrics. It is never about showing off her entire repertoire of vocal gymnastics. She shows an elegance of taste and descrimination often paring down a performance to the bone. Sripping away her own ego in order to give the song the space it needs. An example of this is her Elvis Presley cover SUSPICIOUS MINDS. or her Michael Jackson BILLY JEAN in both these covers I actually heard the lyrics for the first time.

Subscribed, and hoping you continue down your Angelina path. She was and is simply amazing. I think her 4 performances on Norway's Got Talent should be your next reaction. And as another commenter mentioned, it could be fun to have your daughter on some of the reactions with you - Angelina's "angels" (her name for her fans) love to see a wide range of ages reacting to her music. The one thing I've noticed when pre-teens and teens react - they almost exclusively comment on something visual. I guess it's the nature of the world that kids these days are saturated with visual material from their phones, and that is what they connect to. And perhaps their musical ears and interests just aren't mature enough (not to mention that what they DO listen to is, generally speaking, mediocre compared to what Angelina brings to the table) to appreciate great music yet. But the way you described your daughter's reaction to Angelina's Bohemian Rhapsody, and her interest in singing, makes me think she may more attuned to good music than the average pre-teen.

The video was uploaded to UA-cam in 2016. This was actually done in March 2015, two months after she turned 9 on January 10th. It's astounding! This was the first video I ever saw of Angelina back in December of 2019, and I've been an ardent fan ever since! This is her own fresh arrangement of the song by Screaming Jay Hawkins, and she even made some little tweaks to it with her written suggestions to the conductor, which you see him nodding his head at with smiling approval. If you want to be mind-blown still, go back to when she was SIX, singing "I Who Have Nothing" and "Rolling in the Deep" in her school's music studio! Yep, not only did she arrange this - she wrote the extra melody lines for the finale. Angelina had been singing with her own jazz group for about two years by the time she recorded this. She also entered Norway's Got Talent at age 7, although her eighth birthday occured just before she won the final, with 46% of the votes. Over the next twelve months, she sang at live concerts and on TV in Norway, USA, UK, Germany and Sweden, and by age ten was already a very accomplished live performer and star in her own right.
There are three performances at age ten which really stand out for me, and are very worth your reaction. The first is her demo recording of a brilliant song that you will never have heard of - "I Keep Holding out For You" by Baby Fuzz. Angelina was raised on jazz and when asked, when she was little, who were her favorite singers she said Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday. Try listening to her version of 'Lovin' You', where she is backed by a jazz band, and she is in total control at age 11. She's a child prodigy.
Thank you for featuring Angelina a second time, I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on UA-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
