  • More Combat Mission: • Combat Mission Shock F...
    Today we play some more Combat Mission; however it's not Shock Force 2, it's Black Sea! A fictional what-if scenario if Russia invaded Ukraine in 2017, with Ukraine backed up by the US military. I feel right at home playing Black Sea after playing quite a bit of Shock Force 2 and it's awesome to have some modern Russian gear to play around with. I intend to make a bunch more content on CMSF2 and CMBS so keep your eyes peeled, since I am very excited to play a lot more! Hopefully you like it as much as I do :D
    CMBS: store.steampow...
    ABOUT THIS GAME
    Combat Mission Black Sea is a military grade simulation depicting a fictional series of escalations between Russian and Ukraine which results in open conflict in the summer of 2017. As Russian forces move into Ukrainian territory the Ukrainians do their best to defend their country against a numerically and technologically superior adversary. Events surrounding the invasion cause NATO to send its advanced rapid deployment forces to check the Russian advance. A brutal scenario, for sure, but one which allows you to get a glimpse of what full spectrum contemporary near-peer tactical warfare is all about.
    HIGHLIGHTS
    At your command are detailed, highly researched American, Ukrainian, and Russian units from common brigade types such as Mech Infantry, Motor Rifle, Stryker, Armored, and more. All the capabilities one expects on the modern battlefield are included, such as Active Protection Systems (APS) swatting incoming threats, UAVs hovering around the battlefield transmitting valuable intel, and precision guided artillery munitions that find their mark in one shot. Well, as long as the enemy's electronic warfare attempts fail, otherwise you might find your finely tuned fighting machine isn't so finely tuned after all. Take all of this for a spin with four high-stakes campaigns, 22 standalone scenarios, and a plethora of Quick Battle maps to test your tactical acumen.
    FEATURES
    Tactical warfare at battalion and below scale in a true 3D environment
    Command individual vehicles, teams, and squads

    I think the BTR-82 would be classified as an IFV, from my (very limited and possibly incorrect) understanding, IFVs are more heavily armed than APCs as they should be able to accompany the tanks and provide the infantry with fire support while APCs are just battle taxis. Again, I could be mistaken and might just be talking out of my ass. :)

    • @mazzars1772
      @mazzars1772 3 роки тому

      Generally the definition of an IFV is that infantry are able to fight from within the vehicle. So the vehicles have gun slots that infantry can shoot through.

      @@mazzars1772 That is completely wrong.. Where are the firing ports in the BTR-80A? Or the M2 Bradley? How about the Warrior?

    • @mazzars1772
      @mazzars1772 3 роки тому

      @@Steamthrower1 Well... the btr isn't and ifv, it's an apc, you can easily look at the translation of the russian name to understand this. Interestingly, the bradley does actually have firing ports however in the later models they are plated over with armour so you could argue it was initially designed as an ifv but had that function removed. And the British... well the british specifically stated in the design process that they wanted an ifv without firing ports. This also implies that firing ports are standard for ifv. To be quite frank you're really reading in to the symantics of a name. I was simply trying to help by providing a tip to identify a class of vehicle. There will always be exceptions.

      An IFV is usually just an APC, with a weapon of at least 20mm HE capabilities, in addition to having other small arms such as coaxial MMGs/HMGs. This means the vehicle is designed to actively combat infantry formations, where as an APC may also have an MMG or HMG equipped, its primary role is to move personnel around the battlefield and support them on their dismount. APCs can have large cannons like 30mm, but may not be equipped specifically with infantry fighting weaponry like HE explosive rounds, or the subsystems required to efficiently combat infantry teams alone such as thermal imaging or multiple observation tools.

      It is a lightened and simplified 2a72 version that has a thinner barrel (inferior accuracy/sustained fire) and lower max fire rate. The 2a42 on the BMP-2 has a variable fire-rate and better accuracy. The BMP-3 uses the 2a72, but supports the barrel by attatching it to the 100mm gun, thus increasing accuracy.

    "kind of became real life" is overstatement. The game's hypothetical setting is practically World War 3 in which US and Russia is directly engaged in conventional warfare. In real life, Russia doesn't even recognize the two separatist republics. Russia provided arms and volunteers to the two, but has tried to limit the direct confrontation against Ukraine. Russia's strategic objective here is to put immense pressures on Ukraine so that they change their Pro-Western policies and to send a warning to NATO that any attempt of expanding NATO presence over Ukraine means a war with Russia. As long as Ukraine doesn't initiate a full invasion against the separatist regions, Russia won't meet their troops in force. But, if Ukraine really choose that option, Russian troops will rapidly advance and occupy entire lands east of Dnieper river even before NATO finishes the discussion about it. Kiev, with their all ineptitudes, still aware this predicament. That's why there are only small skirmishes between Separatist forces and Ukraine troops. Kiev wants to keep poking at the region due to political reasons, but every time they do that, Russia's presence maintains the stalemate.

      @@theShermanator There is a very fine line between a full-scale war among superpowers and a small proxy war. If we had a conventional war between Russia and US right now just like this game, we wouldn't even talk like this.

      You know they did the same thing with the war in Syria, the original combat mission shock force came out in 2007 and the civil war started in 2011. Neither game was 100% spot on regarding involved parties and battles, but the conflict settings have been eerily similar to reality. Makes me think thats the main reason theyve not made a combat mission for a chinese involved conflict, lol. Nobody wants to see that happen in reality.
