This game is currently planned to come out this year. I am pleased with the game so far and really looking forward to checking out the dynamic campaign. I will do more videos during this early preview. Sea Power can be found here: store.steampowered.com/app/1286220/Sea_Power__Naval_Combat_in_the_Missile_Age/
Can you comment on your own PC performance with this game? Like CPU%, GPU%, at 4K 60FPS? Or at least does it run better / worse than other sims like it? Thanks!
@@Darrylx444 They are still working on the final things to optimize the game so this question would be best answered a bit closer to release. With this said, I was able to play and record in 2K and in general the game felt fine. When things get closer to release, I can share exact numbers.
It's mostly us and Soviet but there are a handful of ships that are technically from British origin but got sold to other countries. I will have a video with the full unit list soon.
The ship with hull number 31 is the Belknap class cruiser USS Sterett DLG/CG-3. This is pretty cool for me to watch as I served in the early 70's on a Farragut class DLG/DDG and a Leahy DLG/CG. I was a Radarman RD on my first ship USS Dahlgren DLG-12/DDG-43 and a Operations Specialist OS on my second ship DLG/CG-20 and worked in CIC. Steamed extensively in the Med and North Atlantic playing with the Soviets. The migs would never have gotten within visual range if we knew the situation was hot. Why not use your radar if you got it?? Waiting until an enemy plan is within gun range to fire on it is what they did in WW2... A more realistic scenereo would be to have the patrol boats as Osa or Komar missile patrol boats. They carried the Styx anti-shipping missiles which kept us up at night... By the way the longest kill shot with a Talos missile was 65 miles by the USS Long Beach CGN-9 in 1968 during the Vietbam War.
Exactly what I was thinking. CMANO is neat but feels like a chore to play especially without shiny graphics (no I don't count the boring TacView option).
@@SpaceNavy90 Agreed. But CMANO will be the closest thing an average consumer can get to a purebred military sim. Just finally excited more games are coming to this niche that are modern, and not (hopefully) behind a billion DLCs.
This is the best playthrough and most thorough explaination of the demo mission yet! The core gameplay looks fantastic. However, there are a couple concerns: - Simple things like the sensor and rules of engagement toggles on the bottom right could just be persistent buttons for each option and not a sub-menu. It's rather clumsy for the sake of minimalistic UI. - Carrier UI could use some more work, a more graphical representation would be amazing. I know this isn't a flight deck simulator but I'd love to have a simplified 2D fligth deck sim on the UI so the player can't just spam "launch" in a realistic RTS. - Damage control UI seems to be a step back from Cold Waters. Visualized flooding in CW based on each hull segment was very cool to see. I know compartment flooding is still here but it'd be nice to give different ships different amount of major watertight compartments. A supercarrier or Iowa-class shouldn't only have 5 major watertight compartments like a DDG. - I was hoping for asymmetrical flooding both in terms of damage (especially torpedo) and damage control (flooding the opposite side to balance it out) but it wasn't a thing. This is an important aspect of naval combat and damage control that I hoped to see after playing Killerfish's previous titles but sadly it still wasn't implemented. Capsizing via flooding should definitely be a practical way to cripple and kill a warship, but it seems like we'll have to put up with ships sinking upright for longer. - Some damage didn't register visually and the damage model looks basic. Again I know this is a RTS but even DCS has better damage than this. At least do something simple like snapped masts and antennae. - The MiG-17 attack looked horrible. Steady level flight into a hailstorm of fire and precisely land both hits while level bombing? What is this, witchcraft? I understand this is an early preview but the launch date is near. I hope the devs can continue to improve this game and make it the greatest cold war naval RTS ever as they do have a solid foundation and wonderful core gameplay.
I came from 80's Larry Bond Harpoon, then Jane Fleet Command to the recent Cold Water. This is the ULTIMATE 'Harpoon' and "Red Storm Rising" for me and may just be the final release i will ever live to play. This have been a very long 40 years wait...can't wait for the release !! cmon and take my money already !
They shouldn't be flying this close together, especially on terminal approach. Pretty sure at least one flak burst came close enough to damage both, but it seems like RNG. The attack should have been a popup/dive, to increase accuracy and avoid the bomb blast. Somehow I doubt aircraft behaviour will improve much and it would be bothering me all the time.
@@fonesrphunny7242 We are actually working on improved ground attack tactics for the planes, including pop-up, dive and toss delivery profiles. The level bombing that you see was the first ever implementation and it has stuck for far longer than it should as we are spread rather thin.
@@julhelm1821 Nice! I'm sure you'll be seeing a little more nitpicking on the air part given the nature of Enigma's channel, but the game looks great so far
This looks awesome, can't wait for this game to launch! And then maybe do a nice combined cinematic with Sea Power combined with DCS for the aerial scenes 🤩
It would be cool to see like a 3D model of the weapon system when you click the link from said unit. But that's just the visual itch in my brain to go "wow.... that's a cool looking missile"
I have been waiting for a game that uses cold war/modern ships, there always seems to be naval games with old ships or ww2 ships, seeing stuff like the CIWS, missiles and helicopters is going to be awesome, the closest thing i found was digital combat simulator which has quality models of ships like the soviet slava class missile cruiser, or the us navy ticonderoga class cruiser but you couldnt do anything with them as it was a flight game
@@Enigma89 Thank you - I did see from your most recent video there is a lot of ground assets and placing them looks straight forward. Looking forward to the rest of your videos!
Shrike had a weak rocket motor and had to be lobbed towards the target, following a ballistic trajectory. Part of the skill of using it was to calculate the range and pitch up the correct amount before firing. The later HARM did this pitch up after firing automatically. This game's missile flew in a straight line like a cruise missile with sustained thrust... I'm not sure it's realistic.
Could you make a video showing alle the carrier ops with starting/landung planes? Maybe a red storm rising like mission where a group of bears attack a carrier formation and tomcats start to defend the fleet?
Are there Tomahawk cruise missiles? And are there any battleships in the game currently, like the Iowa refit? Love the video and I can't wait to play this game
Cool to finally see this in action, but I can't help but feel there's an awful lot of micro-management involved, e.g. the A-6 strikes; surely they'd be pre-briefed with individual packages striking specific installations, etc.? And the AGM-45 ranges seem... optimistic :) Anywho, nice vid, thanks.
fantastic 😃 i loved cold waters but i always wished it had a Mission Editor Like DCS so we can build our own missions and hoped we can control more stuff and have many more ships and ground targets , i hope we still can play the subs like i Cold waters , pulling up noise signatures to id them and plan your own fire solution . hope they bump up the graphics and accuracy of planes , even in this the planes acted unnatural but nevertheless cannot wait for it
Question! You did a lot of micromanaging in this gameplay, is this kind of management going to be required or are there varying degrees of automation for each unit; for example, do you have to independently go to each unit it and select it to be ‘weapons free’ before it defends itself? If I wanted the manage just the aircraft carrier or just some specific unit, will the other units take rational actions? Or do they need orders to do something like change course to avoid a torpedo, etc?
Hey Enigma, Are you able to swap the displays? (the little window showing the 3D world instead of the Tactical Map)? Thats how I played Fleet Command and some others may prefer that as well.
