- We travel from the top of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park's Newfound Gap down the mountain to Gatlinburg Tennessee. Passing through several tunnels and passing by several popular hiking trails in The Great Smoky Mountains. There are so many pull offs to view the Great Smoky Mountains! This scenic drive through the Great Smoky Mountains is a must when visiting Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Tn. Clingmans Dome is near by. My first time driving this road I was a nervous wreck . My wife and I visit the mountains each spring for the past eight or nine years and the drive becomes much easier as long as you take Mikes advice and drive at a safe speed take your time and just enjoy the most beautiful drive in this country .

My favorite part are the mountain views but the hiking is also great along with sitting and listening to the rivers water and De stressing . The parkway is one of the best places to visit other than getting the chance to live in the area. Thanks for letting us tag along 👍👍

We ran that road today coming back home to GA. Stayed in Pigeon Forge a couple of nights and went to Dollywood on Wednesday. Man! What a crowded place and we went mid week! Dollywood had many restaurants closed due to lack of workers and that created some major issues with the patrons. We stayed near "The Islands" and that place was nuts. Trying to get dinner there was impossible, but followed your recommendation and went to "No Way Jose's" and it was awesome! The area is beautiful, but I will not return during summer time ever!

When I was driving the mountains I often would use the lowest gears and had no trouble with over braking

I took a few side road trips off Wears Valley when I was there last week. Every time I saw a church sign I tried to go down the road until I found the church. Funniest thing I saw was a sign that said “Private Sign. Do not read. “ Some beautiful views down Wears Valley.

I enjoyed the ride along since I am usually the one doing the driving. Since we live in the mountains of West Virginia I don't mind the drive to Newfound Gap. Seems like the traffic was moving within the speed limit and taking it easy. Glad you weren't going through when they were doing in re-paving. One time we got into the re-paving mess a few years ago and it wasn't fun. I agree that they need to get the lines down ASAP. People need to know where their lane is going around the curves!

my wife and i haven't been down there for 6 yrs ever since we got our 2 mastiffs she refuse to kennel them, we love it down there been that route many times really miss it!

When we were there in mid June, they were still paving the road up the mountain. The traffic was really backed up!! 🤪
We saw the paving equipment sitting along the side of the road. We are glad it was open.

Our little diesel can be put in a different mode to cut down on break usage.
ok because i'm going yo be driving a dodge caravan when we come to town so i guess i'll have to drive slower coming down from newfound gap
