- After leaving the Sugarlands Visitor Center (See separate video for IMPORTANT information on the new parking pass requirements when visiting the National Park), we took a drive up to Newfound Gap, literally minutes after the road opened back up, after being closed for 6 days.
Very beautiful drive!! The overlooks are wonderful!! Bless ya'll for your work!!
Beautiful drive anytime and the snow made it even more beautiful!
So glad I"ve found you all. Love your.snowy tours. Bless Y'all. You have a fan in me.😀.
Thanks so much! We appreciate it.
Beautiful! Really enjoyed your video!
Thank you for watching, and for commenting. Glad you enjoyed it!
So beautiful!
Thank you!
Nice video. Just was up at Mt.Mitchell 7 Feb 23. First had to drive up old 105 and 206, NC. We was just outside where the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed. Right a beyond the entrance to Mt. Mitchell. One other car at the parking area. Nice, quiet and peaceful. We usually go in way less peak seasons.
Beautiful drive.
Yes it was!
Love the video! Wish we were there!! 🙂😇❤️❤️
Beautiful time to be here
Could not make it up there so thanks for showing us
Nice ride along beautiful Place
Yes it was
Nice! Was there Saturday and seen the snow up the mountain from Gatlinburg
Yes, the mountains were beautiful. That is why we were really hoping they would get the road opened back up. We love to drive and see snow.
Several years ago we took our church youth group to GSMNP in June and there was snow along the road at Newfound Gap. It was only an inch or two, but those Florida kids had never seen snow and they loved it. They made several mud filled snow balls. Although it's been over 25 years, I hope they still remember that trip.
In June? Wow, that's really neat. I'm glad they got to experience that. I'm sure that was very unexpected, for that time of year.
I'm guessing it had to have been left over winter snow plowed snow on north side , shaded curves, in early, early, June. I live in Asheville and have been going to the smokies for 50 years + and I've never seen that or heard of it . I've seen snow as late as mid may , big snow early may 1992, huge snow April 1987 , 50 + inches newfound gap ....
@Ben Law I was thinking that it had to have been left over plowed piles from the May of 1992 storm. I have never seen snow on the ground in June, although my very first trip to Clingmans Dome as a child, was in early June, and there were flurries.
The official total at Newfound Gap of the 1987 snowfall, was 60 inches. That may still be the largest single snowfall in the state of NC. I know it once was. Mt. Mitchell reported 63 inches a few years back, but that was later corrected.
@@NCMemoryMakers yep , you are correct. I remember a few times , a very few , snow flurries, but no accumulation on the peaks, and rime ice in early June on the peaks 6000 ft +, Mitchell, roan, etc. I'm with you, had to be left over snow plow piles from the may '92 snow storm ..thanks for your reply...God bless...🙏
I ❤ the GSM. They are my favorite place to be. 😊⛰️🏔️
Yes! Ours too!
We were there one year in January and when they opened the road to Newfound Gap it was only open to 4 wheel drive vehicles. The last time we drove to Newfound Gap was in November 2021, when there we went to the Appalachian Trail and went from the left side to the right side and once home we told all of our friends that we walked the entire WIDTH of the Appalachian Trail.
Wonder how many people caught what you said
@@NCMemoryMakers Most caught on right away but an explanation was required for a few.
Don't encourage more folks to come in the Fall...haha. I kid. Everyone deserves to be amazed at the beauty of the Smoky Mountains whatever season it is! It's been known to snow in mid-April, so pack accordingly!
Yes, we've been there in April many times and seen snow. In fact, it snowed April of last year.
I watch a couple AT hikers each year. This year one began Jan 1st.
Bartman outdoors. A couple days ago, after going into gatlinburg for a break from newfound gap, waited about. 5 days for the road to reopen. Thursday he thought it was open and his ride found gate closed. They got out and walked up from sugar lands to newfound gap to get back on trail . That was the longest I’ve ever seen the roads closed across 441. Usually they get them cleared in years past. I was always old the casino in cherokee was a big push to keep them open.
Good to know about the webcam! I didn’t know there was or up there. Let us know if others in parks or this park when you find any. Thanks
There is one at Purchase Knob (near Maggie Valley), one at Look Rock (near Maryville, TN), and one at Clingmans Dome. The one at the Dome, doesn't operate in winter.
I have seen a lot more snow than that up there also. Several years ago....before they closed the roads so quickly....we went up there in our Blazer 4X4. In some places, the road was a solid sheet of ice. All total I think they said there was over 6 inches at the top. It was an awesome....once in a lifetime....trip. Because, as you said, they close the roads pretty quick now. 🤨
I remember one time over 10 years ago, the snow on the side was just below my waist. Back then, they would close the roads, but get them reopened fairly quickly.
I'm watching this because the park systems have stopped vloggers from filming if their vlogs are monetized. People like me who can't afford to travel or can't travel because of disabilities love you all for what you do. We will be sorry to not be able to visit the parks.
We are really hoping this will be resolved soon. This unconstitutional ruling was already overturned one time, and we are praying it will be again.
Absolutely gorgeous!!!We saw snow at Newfound Gap a couple of years ago and loved every view!We never see that here in South MS of course, so we did get lots great photos! Thanks guys, we enjoyed the video!!
Thank you so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
You're a lot more South than I am!!!
I thought the snow on the rocks in the creek was so pretty.
Yes, it was beautiful. I love rivers, anyway. But especially in the snow.
Never knew about the web cam
Yes, it really comes in handy for seeing what the weather is like up there.
Thanks for sharing. It is truly magical when it snows in the high elevations. Hoping for a bit more snow so we can make it up there before winter is over.
There will be more, I'm sure. It can snow even into April, in the mountains. I know it did last year.
@@NCMemoryMakers I've been up in the high elevations at the end of May with snow.
@@SmokyMtFaithFoodFun May of 1992, on Mt. Pisgah
What a beautiful snowy drive! Hope it snows when I go up in a few weeks!
Hope you get to see some!
@@NCMemoryMakers TY!!
Just watched Yankee in the South about not being able to film in a National Park without a permit. What's up with that?
You are the 2nd person today, to mention this to us. We have not heard it. I would like to watch their video myself. Which one was it?
Also, that is ridiculous, if they are going to try to institute something like that. The National Parks are on God's earth, and we have as much right to photograph and record it, as anyone.
Last one they posted called "Sad Day" A lot of information on their video.
@@cheriedupree4194 Yes, we found it and watched it. We also made a video about it. Should be uploaded tomorrow. We didn't post shots from the NPS website like they did, but mainly just talked about it, and gave our thoughts.
Were are y'all from I'm in Otto NC
Western NC, near Hickory
Wow I have to go to Mooresville NC in March
@@annreynolds2834 That's an hour or so, away from us.
I know we go by Hickory
You're not honking in the tunnels
Yeah, we don't really do that much anymore...Lol. We used to.
@@NCMemoryMakers I've seen some other videos where they're honking all over the place. That's probably a tourist thing though.
Ok. So there is a sign that says this national park belongs to the people of America. Enough said.
