Things I didn't have time to talk about/draw but wanted to mention:
-when the curtains fell during intermission we liked to dance goofily in the dark right on the stage to get rid of the stage fright jitters in preparation for act 2 haha
-group trip to Denny's after the last day of the shows. Every time.

Thank you for always putting so much love into these 😁
I love how they decided that they went “not enough guys? Just make it gay!” I love that we can do that more without it being wrong
That is an interesting way of solving the issue. Wouldn't have work in my elementary school because it was a private Christian school and my high schools had plenty of guys interested in the theatre and arts. Still, I have seen girls play guy roles because we had a lot more girls in our year. One year, the Christmas pageant had three girls (I was one of them) playing the Three Kings.
Because love isn't tethered by gender. XD
My school cut a gay character from the script because it was “controversial” smh

HEY
Dear god those chocolate bars unlocked a deep memory of being forced to sell as many as possible
Those things are pretty rigged, aren't they? A bunch of kids each has to cater to the same audience with not much of a way to make their stuff more appealing to buy since IIRC you can neither change the price nor the product sold, so you can only really get ahead (and get the prizes for selling a certain amount) by buying your own product, not to mention the fact that 8-year-old kids don't exactly get their own money to spend so they have to ask their parents, further reducing your audience, so unless you try to cater to a different audience by selling to the public (which your parents might not approve of and is hard to do) you can't really do much to fundraise other than, as I said, buy your own stock.
THEY ALWAYS SMELT LIKE HOT COCO POWDER

And me buying at least 4 bars a day when classmates were selling them. I swear, this is almost like drug dealing, except the habit is more pleasant and tasty.
I agree, theatre is really a good extra-curricular activity (even for those who does not like acting/performing). I just wanted to say that theatre is not limited to performing alone. (I was part of a mini-theatre production in our school once; a stage manager to be precise). For those who has stage fright or bad at acting (like me), you can always try backstage roles like director, stage manager, dramaturg, production designer, etc. They are a bit overlooked per se.
oh being in plays is AMAZING. It's like all of you are FAMILY. I have only ever been in one play, but I'd really love to do more.

I did my first musical this year! We’re a small town, so we cast everyone, and it was really fun. And then the teacher who’s directed for about the last 5 years was fired. Coincidentally, this teacher taught choir as well as part of speech and directed colorguard. Great.
Ah yes theater, good times. I loved being part of the Sound and Light crew. We had the power to turn off all the mics and lights and make your life miserable if we lost respect. We control the show, you are all the puppets. I miss those days.

No way, you did Comedy of Errors! I did too! We combined it with Loves Labors Lost as a two week intensive during the summer. Yeah, we learned everything in two weeks and then performed at the end. I was cast at the Governor's Wife.
What you described for the scene where Antipholus threatens to claw out Adrianna's eyes sounds a lot like how it was directed in my production. The more we practiced it, the angrier and more intense it got. I think it really added to things. The rest of the play is really hilarious, and then you get this, where things are suddenly very real.
“It’s not that you can’t play a mean character, it’s just that Bethany won’t be able to play a nice one.”

As a theatre kid, I ADORE theatre. I love seeing other people's experience's, cause to me one of the best parts about theatre is all about how each show is super unique!
My drama teacher was a very nature-loving hippie esque type. She'd take students out hiking to pick mushrooms and forage in the woods! I gifted her a mug with mushrooms on it that i found in a second hand store- she adored it and used it every day the rest of the time i went to school ^^ when i had the flu she even came to my dorm room with ginger and honey tea- and during covid i was the only one she hugged goodbye. I can relate so hard to this one. I took theater just recently in my senior year - and it was the best decisions I had ever made. I started on tech crew but decided to audition for the last show of the year. Also can’t believe how similar the dropout experience was - We also had a dropout… except that mine had 3 dropouts. It was definitely an experience to pick up extra roles but we made it through.

I saw "The comedy of errors" but it was all modern and part of it was in Spanish as well as a role that acted in the audience (that also spoke primarily in Spanish) to encourage audience members to comment on the play, it was really fun. It was part of an event that a local theater was doing where they did a bunch of musicals.

I go to a large school with a VERY competitive drama program, and very soon I’ll be attending another school with an even more competitive one. Already, the current cast I’m in is about 60 people, and about 70 were cut. Theatre is something I’m very passionate about and I highly reccomend trying it, I just hope to soon get a larger role in a production (possibly in a less competitive program lol)
I was in a Shakespeare play before, so I know how hard it is to learn. We also had someone who didn't show up a lot, but that was mainly because he couldn't, and yet he was amazing during the show along with being a main character for one of the 3 groups (We were doing Midsummer Nights Dream, so there's a lot going on).

About the person who had a small role in the 2nd play and was a slacker:
I played a fairly small role in my schools first play after COVID hit. My character was named Rach (short for Rachel). We did The Curse of Macbeth (our director paid to let us use the script and there’s nothing I can find about it. Only Macbeth) it’s about this drama class that has the notorious Mr. Beck, the gym teacher, as their substitute because Mrs. Mac (their drama teacher) was out sick. Out of everything, they choose scenes from Macbeth.
Now, even though I played a small role that wasn’t really a main role (and by personal choice by one of the main characters and me, was friends with one of the main characters, and by personal choice by myself, had a small crush on one of the main roles because I was actually crushing on the person cast as that role but sjhfiehd) I still showed up to rehearsals everyday and worked hard to do my best with characterization and tone. Hell, I even brought some concealer for makeup crew because they didn’t have my exact skin tone. I even discussed with the mean girls things we could do (ex. In the final show, we had decided that in sync, “Claudia” and “Tiff” would push me, “Rach”, and “Jacinta” off of their seats) so seeing someone with a small role and not putting in effort to come to/participate in rehearsals really angers me because a lot goes into plays, especially Shakespeare. I learned that when learning Rach’s lines for “5 Minute Macbeth”
I'm still in high school, and I've been doing theater since I was eight. I love it, it's sincerely one of the best things about my life
