What I loved about assassin's creed was their stealth attacking, parkour type things and mysterious missions. They would use small weapons with maxed out technology for their time. Serving mysteriously to their country. Not big ass weapons with king shiit mentality guy walking out in the park like the chosen one. This is like that meme Shaq hiding behind a small tree. Big ass black guy wearing samrui kit in the ancient japan among the native citizens. Ubisoft could have hundred historical characters but they chose this one instead. Could be a good game but this doesn't have that assassin's creed vibe, more like a samrui game. Because imagine wearing that helmet and climbing walls in an old ruined building
The thing with the Yasuke controversy is that if he was just a regular Japanese man, you can be damn sure Ubisoft wont give a flying fck about him and maybe not even make him into an NPC. They could easily have made Yamauchi as one of the leads but of course, the color of ones skin is very important to these companies.
I disagree. Yasuke was the perfect middleground for Ubisoft. Previous games used entirely fictional protagonists because then you have more creative freedom, as those fictional characters wouldn't be too tied to any historical events or obligations. Yasuke, while a real person, is only properly documented in a few events: - His arrival in Japan - His stay with Nobunaga - His battle alongside the other Nobunaga loyalists against the traitor Mitsuhide in Honno-Ji - The defeat and surrender of the loyalist faction which led to Yasuke being banished to the jesuit temples in the south, after which he is never heard of again WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, He is also a very iconic and recognizable character for people who know the setting, which makes him extremely marketable. So he is perfect sweetspot of famous while not important that lets him be an AC protagonist without removing creative liberty for the fictional aspects of the plot. There is no racial or "skin color agenda" like you put, but a monetary agenda which every company has.
ESG score it’s a social credit score for corporations. Blackrock and vanguard are to blame for crowbarring this crap into everything and being lectured instead of entertained

My thing is why would you go with a guy who isn’t Japanese to be you’re main character as they’ve said recent that Yasuke is the main character like how Kassandra was the main character of odyssey. I mean one thing i love about every assassins creed is the promoting of different cultures and groups so it’s very weird you pick a African guy to be the lead in your Japanese samurai game, he could’ve been in the game as a character I don’t understand why you’d pick him as the lead, this is giving me Tom cruise last samurai flashbacks. It’s weird that I am saying this because Afro Samurai is one of my favorite anime but even still like the whole thing with assassins creed is the promotion of cultures, this is one of those situations again with Ubisoft where I am like, just name these games something else.
You do know that they've done this plenty of times before. AC4 you're a Welsh character in the Carribean. AC Revelations, you're an Italian in Constantinople. At the same time I totally understand why the JP trailer is massively disliked on Japanese UA-cam. Ubisoft picked Yasuke purely to check diversity boxes.
To be fair, the black guy was a servant. There's no recorded history of him actually being a samurai. You can also argue that this leaves room open for interpretation and how he could've been an "unrecorded samurai". But personally, the game would've been much better off going with a historically accurate samurai due to their being possible little backlash overall.
There is extremely little that could suggest Yasuke was a samurai. Sadly Ubisoft is using him to force black representation into a game set in a period where it did not exist.
Ubisoft prob thought they could get away with it thanks to the fans. They've been begging for AC in Japan for a decade, probably.
Way to address the elephant in the room
The thing with the Yasuke controversy is that if he was just a regular Japanese man, you can be damn sure Ubisoft wont give a flying fck about him and maybe not even make him into an NPC. They could easily have made Yamauchi as one of the leads but of course, the color of ones skin is very important to these companies.
locking missions behind a more expensive version seems more important than black guy.
I disagree. Yasuke was the perfect middleground for Ubisoft.
Previous games used entirely fictional protagonists because then you have more creative freedom, as those fictional characters wouldn't be too tied to any historical events or obligations.
Yasuke, while a real person, is only properly documented in a few events:
- His arrival in Japan
- His stay with Nobunaga
- His battle alongside the other Nobunaga loyalists against the traitor Mitsuhide in Honno-Ji
- The defeat and surrender of the loyalist faction which led to Yasuke being banished to the jesuit temples in the south, after which he is never heard of again
WHILE AT THE SAME TIME,
He is also a very iconic and recognizable character for people who know the setting, which makes him extremely marketable.
So he is perfect sweetspot of famous while not important that lets him be an AC protagonist without removing creative liberty for the fictional aspects of the plot.
There is no racial or "skin color agenda" like you put, but a monetary agenda which every company has.

Even in Japan he is marketable. Actually get out of youtube and twitter and look at how much legitimate japanese media Yasuke is present in.
He might not have been historically important but he sure as hell is popular and stands out in this period and to the executives that is all that matters. They don't give a shit about culture or lecturing your asses.
