Everything will be fine and you will shine like a rising star, achieving great success and wealth
Watching this video brings back memories of my sewing classes in middle school. Thank you, Linsay.
You are so welcome!
It always warms my heart to see you working with your M. Grahams! Love this!!
Thanks so much!
Loved watching this come to life!
Love all the cheerful colors! Very summer!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!!
You are so welcome!
I appreciate the comments on working with reference photos and that a person’s mind just can’t remember exactly how to do everything.😂😂
Beautiful work. Thank you!!❤
My mom sewed every thing I wore for years-even though I didn’t inherit that talent I kept some of her patterns. I treasure them
Nice!
Hllo Lindsay, This is a wonderful painting and a wonderful submission for World Watercolor Month! I had a huge flashback when saw this over on Insta! I was drawn to the pattern package. I started my watercolor journey Loooong before the internet and getting photo's developed was in no way instant! I know Poloroid's did exist but I did not have one and the film was quite expensive(it was way out of reach for a kid!). Well I used my Mothers cache of patterns for reference when I was trying to draw or paint figures! Yes, later I did go to the Library but most anatomy books were not for kids! I did not get access to a good anatomy library book until I was an older teen! Thanks for showing everyone that references can be used from anywhere! I know a real person is the "best" reference, but I painted so many versions of pattern people when I got started painting figures! Thanks for a truly memorable memory recall Lindsay!
Thanks 😊
My mother made all my clothes when I was a kid. She also worked as the piano player in cocktail lounges in the mid-1960's. She made all her cocktail dresses using brocades, fringe, satin, chiffon all fitted to a T. She was an amazing seamstress!
She sounds very glamorous
How cool is that!!!!❤
Wow!
This was a fun one to watch! I like hearing the process of how you changed out the image to a different pose. Yes sewing your own clothes can be fun for sure! ❤
Thank you so much!
Fun painting for the prompt!
Turned out great. The wood table in the background is amazing! I thought it was a photograph.
Love this so much. My mother sewed a lot of our clothes. When I was little, I wanted to grow up to be the person who drew the pattern fronts! I sketched those fashion figures all the time!
Dream job!
Your controlled wash technique was so well presented. Thanks. I will use it in the future.. Looks so good.
Glad it was helpful!
Luv it…learned so e tips along the way…ex; changing the lady on the pattern. And the background
Glad you liked it!!
Beautiful piece!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful painting, love the still life you set up for this prompt!
Thank you so much!
Perfect book for my daughter. Thanks for the book recommendation!
I loved my grandma’s button box. She and my mom were seamstresses. Lovely and fun still life.
Hope you enjoy it!
I just love this painting. Love how you bring dimension to objects with shadows and highlights. Thanks for the video Lindsay.
You are so welcome!
Love this. It looks real. I had to blink to remind myself it 's a painting.
Tfs.
Thanks so much 😊
Beautiful composition, so much fun. Top tip about the watercolour ground 12:40 to correct mistakes! 9:09 on brown pens, here is a frugal tip. Since you have so many fountain pens, get Rohrer & Klingner's waterproof Sketch Ink (around 10€ in Europe) The brown colours are Thea or Lilly (they all have women's names) You can refill them using an empty cartridge with a stump syringe or a converter. No plastic waste and you have years long supply of ink. 9:20 Yep, Pitt markers set of 4 still available. Jackson's carries them. 4 markers in different sizes for 12.40€.
Good idea!
Love your artwork, beautiful as always! I'm so glad it is World Watercolor Month as I'm really struggling with this medium
Thank you so much!
Uni Pin Fineliner has black, brown, and gray. They are fantastic and multiple weights in each color
Oh the nostalgia! Looks like the age of patterns from my mother's sewing room. When she took me to TG&Y in the 80's I always loved to look at buttons and pattern books while she shopped for fabric and such. The Halloween costume patterns were my fave. Fun drawing!
Thanks!
Whaf a wondervul idea. No time to paint these days. But I started a card for my niece in June when her father went for bypass surgery. Its been a long road and weve3 been visiting almost daily to encourage his hea.ing.
I e got so much vintage patterns and sewing notionx, ( long time seamstress here) and im thinki n g o f painting a version with my own pattern from the 70's and including my pristine Gingef sheers as well. ...you know...one day awhen I find time.
That sounds gorgeous!
I love this theme and your interpretation of it!
I saw some of my old cards with snaps today in my sewing machine drawer. I think that
they quite often are glossy, and I think that keeps the color from fading better than the plain paper.
Looking forward to the month! Hugs! Peggy
Probably!
I love this Lindsay! I love the old patterns too! I could watch you paint all day! LOL! I want to watercolor some of the prompts on World watercolor month….if my life ever slows down.😃Love how you did the wood grain!
Thanks!
This was really different and enjoyable! ❤
Thanks!
This looks so great
That wood grain was absolutely BRILLIANT!!! Wow. I had no idea what you were doing with the ruler and the BS pencil until I watched you, mesmerized, by adding the oak grain. I actually wondered why you were measuring on TOP of buttons, as they'd cause a "hump" under the ruler. That's how good this painting was. You constantly surprise us. This was a 12 out of 10, Lindsay. I learned SO much. Thank you! Fanna😊
Glad it was helpful!
I loved this prompt because i did something other than a landscape.
This was so satisfying to watch, that wood grain really brought it all together at the end 😄
Thanks 😊
My local quilt store also carries vintage stamps and papers (and ink refills). It would be a store Lindsay would get lost in. Bonus it is a small town Mom and Pop brick and mortar.
Love that!
I had no idea fashion books for illustrators even existed! Thanks for the info......I'll be keeping my eyes out for one! I love your subject matter today and the vintage sewing supplies. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
A fun idea! I love sewing but haven’t been able to sew cause of an issue with eye strain. I do paint a bit. I’d never thought of this type of fusion project❤
You can do it!
Wow, I didn't think you would be old enough to remember patterns! In the seventies (when I was in middle school) the girls (of course) took home ec and that included sewing. Butterick, Simplicity and McCall's patterns spring to mind. It is so much more cost effective (and simple) to buy off the rack. How many really bother "mending" anything now, or even have a sewing machine?
Your result looks great, and I feel like I can pick up that button. What is very helpful to me with your tutorials is pearls of wisdom about the materials used, like the pencils. Although I am attempting to "shop in my closet' as much as possible for art supplies. As a child, I crafted with whatever was at hand, not having income to purchase new. More isn't going to help my creativity (which you have in abundance) or produce better art. I get stuck in "analysis paralysis" in even choosing a subject, despite the world of references at my fingertips. There is a saying to the effect of "abundance decreases appreciation."
North Light Book Club was my basic intro into art decades ago. It was so thrilling to get the snail mail brochure with the new releases. A lot of those books are OOP and worth quite a bit. I have sold and bought many books on ebay. One can search for a title, save the search, and ebay will email you when someone lists it. Recently I sold a lot of art books and have to sell many more that I do not use. Oddly enough, the "Artist's Photo Reference" will be staying on my shelves also. I have "Birds" and "Wildlife" but sold flowers as I do not paint them often (or very well) and am not on social media.
Lindsay, you continue to inspire and intimidate (ya know, in a good way) with your fabulous art. Even though we only "know" YT creators from their videos, so many artists seem like such genuine, intelligent, and admirable human beings.
They still make patterns 😆
Beautiful painting!!!! I love it!!!! Thanks for sharing your amazing talent!
Thank you! Cheers!
I loved watching your planning process for the project. An excellent job. Thanks ❤️
Thanks so much! 😊
Love this. Can't wait to watch the longer version in critique club❤
Thanks
I love your painting! It reminds me of a corkboard I covered with vintage sewing patterns that I picked up at yard, garage or estate sales and made a collage with any other sewing items I could pin to it in my sewing room. I still like collecting buttons in a jar, small tins or boxes at yard sales.
Love that!
This looks so good, cannot wait to see what you come up with for the rest of the month ☺☺
Thanks so much! 😊
Love the vintage theme. I have old patterns as well, more like thd 70s, 80s and 90s, it would work. Lovely artwork as usual Lindsay. 😊
Thanks so much 😊
When I saw this painting on your Instagram page, I thought it was a photograph 😊❤. The wooden effect of the table is truly fantastic
Thanks so much 😊
I love this. I love how you just whipped out that wood grain! i know it was sped up but STILL! lol. Thank you for the video!
Glad you liked it!
I nearly used a sewing pattern for mine too! I’ll check it out in Critique Club.
Thanks 😊
I love this painting! I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I recently did your colored pencil course and purchased the pro Derwent pencils - loved the course and I love those pencils !!!
Wonderful!
Hi, Lindsay. Thank you for your video. ❤
You are so welcome!
I love watching you paint. 😊
Thanks 😊
That is awesome, Linday! I love the way it came out, and you have double patterns; the pattern itself, and the pattern on the table. I just crocheted a little cat for my cousin and wanted to do that with the pattern for the prompt but I don't think I'm up to doing that yet.
Thank you so much!
SOOO CUTE Lindsay! Love it!
Thank you!! 😊
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure!
I love the way the wood grain came out. What a fun piece🥰
Also thanks for show the set up for the still life I’m so bad with that😅
You are so welcome!
i love this Lindsey!
Super fun video! Thanks for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching!
This is just lovely
Thanks!
I LOVE this!
Thanks 😊
They have the fashion Illustrator book on eBay $5-$10
Hey the ruffled hem and sleeves is super hot this year! I say go for it - I love that style of dress too!
Yes! Thank you!
What kind of magic are you working to get quilting cotton from Marden’s that’s $3-4/yard? I always see it for $8/yard there! I do love the wall of fabric on the giant cardboard tubes, though - I’ve found some great deals there! I use old sheets to make mockups of new patterns so I know if I need to change anything before using the good fabric - it’s an annoying step, but totally worth it!
Your painting looks great! What a fun interpretation of the prompt! I love seeing all your World Watercolor Month paintings each year!
Do you go to the brewer location? I bought som last summer at thar price. I hope it hasn't doubled!
@@thefrugalcrafter I do gonto the Brewer one. Hmm, maybe I’m looking in the wrong place, or maybe they only have certain prints for that price, but I’ve never had good luck with their quilting cottons. I’ll have to look more carefully next time. Their fashion fabrics are great, though! I’m planning to make a coat for the winter and have found great deals on wool coating fabric, so the project will actually be affordable!
ohh la la. love it
Thanks!
How funny! I did about the same thing. I have plenty of patterns as I still sew for my grandkids and family. Once in a while I get to do something for me. Lol. I have completed Day 1,2, and 3. Have the fourth sketched ready to go. I am a beginner so mine are not at precise as yours but I am having fun.
That is awesome!
Winsor and newton has sepia fineliners. They have a longer tip for easier sketching. Unipin has sepia fineliners as well. They are open stock of small sets.
Thanks!
Use Easy Trace pattern paper to cut out the prototype with 1" more around the pieces, then you can adjust it to fit. I have older patterns and I do slide and trace I learned from Nancy Zieman. It really helps.
Thanks!
Wow Lyndsay fabulous and inspiring 👏🏾 ✨️ 👍🏾❤️
Thank you so much!!
I bought the Biyanyo (sp?) set. They seem comparable to the Microns. I love that you have so many sizes. I got mine from Amazon.
Good to know!
Hello,
Yes, I have the BIANYO brown set, I have been doing a drawing with them this week & I am torn about the quality. They don't smear, but the color is really kind of pale to me. I think of Sepia as a deeper brown. These are a bit lighter than the color on the barrel & the different thicknesses of the nibs are even lighter. They seem to be a lot more Terra Cotta in color. I guess they are the color of a Conte' Crayon I used for life drawing eons ago. I will see if I can get an image to upload with some comparable art materials.
Love seeing the seamstress side of you coming out 😄 I can't decide if I'm an artist first or a seamstress/designer, but I love them both eaqually. I also have gallon jars & antique canning jars with the most amazing buttons. When we get them unpacked from the storage room I need to share some with you!
I can't wait to see!
I don't have awesome experiences with derwent pens. I do have a copic multiliner sepia set and I was suprised to see the learningcurve where the microns dont have that. So next time I will get me the microns again. Its nice to have me a good quality sepia though.
Thanks for sharing!
I bought 2 Sepia 01 Micron pens open stock. I don't know if these come in a set. I love the still life you set up here. I also enjoy vintage sewing supplies. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
Hi Lindsay. - Maybe others are having the same problem I am with trying to leave you a thumbs up comment on you regular SA Chat- it usually doesn't show up at bottom of your site. Just goes to next subject - even someone else on uTube on my iPhone. I can hunt for it but sometimes not. Good luck!
I'm not sure
i bought set there good,🎉
Great 👍
😍😍😍
