I think a theater that shows these ol movies would be a great success!
Maybe not in our vile, corrupt world of today. The streets where such a "theartre" would exist, would be filled with drug-addicted, hooded zombie thugs, looking for a dark place to crash and maybe find their next victim. The world you remember where such films as these were popular, no longer exists today. We allowed it to vanish by voting "demon-crat" through the decades.
Yes!!! And we could all dress up like they did♡
I agree! Great idea! And do an old theater up in all Art Deco! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏😘💜🕊🙋♀️
Wonderful Mischa Auer ( the Swami) was the only one of these actors to achieve real film noteriety. Four years after this film he received a supporting actor Oscar nomination for his hilarious role in "My Man Godfrey" with Carol Lombard and William Powell. Mischa had a tough childhood, his family barely escaped the Russian Revolution, settling in New York where Mischa went to work at a young age in the Yiddish theater to help support his family. He had a very long and successful film career mostly in comedic parts.
Great info, thank you!
I first noticed him in "AND THEN THERE WERE NONE", where, if memory serves, he was the first one to get it.
"A man doesn't have to come from the gutter to be a rat!" So true ~
boy howdy i do love these old mystery movies, thanks Pizzaflix for another great vintage film 🎥🎥🎥❤️🥂
The opposite is also true!
Russian Yiddish actor Mischa Auer as the swami. He's one of those stock character actors who pop up all the time. Thank you PizzaFix for putting this on the Web. It was a pretty good one.
Thanks! These 30's B&W Murder Mysteries were the pinnacle of the art form. Film Noir before Film noir.
PizzaFlix...
Thank you for another one of your fabulous murder mysteries! I love it!
My mother, and father used to go to the late movies at 8:pm .I heard my mother call certain actors names, and now I see them. Thanks
I don't think my parents liked me.At the age of 12 I had a heart attack .My parents wrote for an ambulance!
"A man doesn't have to come from the gutter to be a rat." Indeed!
Thank you so much for posting this great movie !! It's so awesome to forget the present a go back to more simpler times. Love the women's clothes back then.
Yes, a time when women had no greater ambition than to marry a rich older man.
Ok tss ex who
i agree! 🥂
Thank you for posting these wonderful classic movies.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent Movie, Thanks !
Very interesting plot, movie,PizzaFlix.Nice to see good acting, and suspense in a movie.Thank you,PizzaFlix for sharing this film.
Thanks!
I really like these Pre Code films...thanks for posting!!
I got some good chuckles out of the corny acting in this film. Love Hollywood Pre-Code. Tis' the best.
It IS The Best, I Love them too , x
Thank you,PizzaFlix for another good, fun film!! Very interesting plot&characters!
It's so funny to see men in those swimming-suits!
Those days even men were "modest".
I love this movie, thanks for sharing. Just keep posting similar like this!
Oh they did, that's why this is Pre Code, it wasn't until the 50s that Hollywood had to straighten out, what could be seen, and heard from the screen. A moral code! Behind closed doors tho it hadn't changed, People back then lead pretty wild lives, immorality was pretty bad, it' has just gotten so much worse. Now almost everything is acceptable! Sad that our world accepts just about everything that's shoved down our throats by Hollywood ! Some of those actresses had to sleep their way up Hollywood's ladder, to get anywhere. Their bosses expected and demanded it, for them to get anywhere, in the acting world. You want to get somewhere, you sleep with me! And preform any perverted sexual act that they wanted. Period. Sad indeed.
@@victoriataylor5457 , Harvey Weinstein' name comes to mind; on of the really evil moguls of Hollywood. The reality is that God gave us free will, freedom to choose. Sometimes people wisely and then other times not so well. But God did not give a special anointing to censors to override my free will, freedom to choose. I don't need no stinkin' government censors to dictate what I can see or read or hear. The reality is that politics is violence and political government is the bane of humanity; it is not Christian but imposes manmade "laws" and constitution that supplants Gods laws with Satan's filth. That said, I prefer the movies from the 30s, 40s and 50s as the language is cleaner and the perversion and immorality are not nearly as common as seen in the movies since the 1970s, well IMHO of course.
thanks. simple, entertaining, catchy, pre-code at its best.
I'm addicted to those films, and James P. Burtis is terrific.
I don't need him to say something, I don't need him to speak at all. he makes me laugh just by looking at him ;)
The 1971 edition of The New York Times Directory of the Film cites 13 films in which he appeared.
Also, this ONLY lists films that the NYT reviewed from 1924-1970.
Siilent Films before 1924 are also not covered. Films they considered inferior, westerns or many from small independent studios or small-time distributors were never reviewed by the NYT, including this film which isn't listed among his credits.
If you don't have access to this reference, place a reply to this comment and I will list them for you. IMDb cites 121 entries from 1930-1939. He was variously billed as Jim, Jimmy, James or James P. He died 24 July 1939 in Veterans Administration Hospital of cirrhosis of the liver.
He was honorably discharged exactly one year after being commissioned 1st Lieutenant in the Army Quartermaster Corp. 1918
The opening credits music was written by an inconsequential fellow named Franz Schubert who unfortunately never quite finished what he started here.
A big house setting for a whodunnit murder mystery horror. The confusion arises when an ancient spiritual mystic meets western aristocrats in costumes typical of 1920s aristocrat fashion. The film is quite light-hearted but also commands attention to keep up with the detective plot.
Very entertaining! Thank you!
"don't call me Watson, it's Wilson" lol 😁🎬😁
Watkins!!! not Wilson...
Movies my grandmother and mother watched, these tell a little of their behaviors .... in retrospect.... little tells a lot sometimes.
Thanks for sharing😊
고전찬미 감사합니다
thanks for posting
Not sure how comfortable Schubert would have been in using his Unfinished Symphony as music for the opening titles....
I laughed out loud when Swami called Watkins “Watson”. 😅
LOVE this Movie
I'm gonna be real careful to not call anyone else Watson, unless their name is actually Watson.
Another great Flick Pick PF. In a cast of somewhat spoiled and ungrateful people - the old man stood out as a pillar of common sense and decency.
And the butler - showing true shame for his past - really turned a new leaf - and was loyal to the end - to his only true friend in the world - who gave him a break.
Can a leopard change its spots???? Apparently so - if he sees the light.
Thanks PF Hope you're doing well.
yes thank you I watch many of your flicks keep up the good work
Don't call me Watson,haha,excellent😉
cute old flick. I didn't realize the old dears wore such risque swim wear.
thank you for posting this it was a decent film some of the acting was a bit flat and stiff in some parts of the film but it got better i think. the murderer is who i thought it was going to be i'm not gonna post who it was really only because i found out who it was on another film i watched once and it did ruin the film for me.
Great ending
What a silly old movie. I loved it.
So fun ☺️
At the beginning when everyone is in the pool I think of Jonathan Winters joke when he came on the J Carson show
And blew a whistle saying “ everyone out of the pool”!
Oh yes that sounds hilarious doh!
Excellent ☺
Clever! Needed more Russian Mischa Auer, 27, his 30th film in the last 4 yrs; comedy/drama wizard. At the 2020 conversion rate, what's $9k more on top of a $37k mystic habit? Note to Franz, she's 33 yrs younger. Duh! Finally, anyone who wears spectator loafers can do no wrong and deserves more respect, Watkins.
Wonder what poison the judge took, never seen someone drop so fast .
Probably cyanide. It kills in under a minute. Of course, the real question is why he had the poison on him when he wasn't expecting to be caught.
Swami "You murder"..... Priceless
The house looks like Wayne Manor.
whats that cute little song theyre singing near the beginning standing around the piano? i cant find the name of it!!
Ty 🌹
In this time of "social distancing," we have more time to eat popcorn and watch PizzaFlix. I'm good...🍿🍸😏
Okay, we can't go back in time...but I want a 1930s wardrobe! 😍👗👡👒👚
Which clothes do you want?
@@RalphDratman All of them! From the underclothes, chemises and satin, the dresses, the suits! The women wore those smart suits, with hats and gloves...😍
@@miapdx503 That sounds like a challenge to put together. Still, I bet you could find those things piece by piece somewhere such as eBay, maybe in more specialized online stores. Would you want wool for the suit, or linen, or... ?
Did you see that film Carol, with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara? The Carol character had clothes like that, I think.
@@RalphDratman Oh, for a linen suit! And I do have hats, especially fedoras. I have found some nice suits though. I'll check out that film, thanks.
@@miapdx503 Try Mike the Hatter in Ohio. They do mail order, and have many tradional styles
Swami Yomurda! ;-D
i thought it was the secretary in the man's tie
I thought it was professor Plum in the library.
Amazing how people really do believe in fortune tellers...What scares me is they are allowed to vote..
Relax; if voting could change anything, they wouldn't let you do it (Samuel L. Clemons)
...or public office

Wants you to attend the sense, isn't it? Many were charlatans but other weren't. It was a time of fascination with Ouija board.
Real good sauce @PizzaFlix
minute 46... Hmmmm... could be wrong, but it must be the judge : he is the only one who is NOT suspected by the inspector.
Nah, couldn't be him!
I really enjoyed this one I suspected the Judge from the beginning no brag just fact just saying lol
Does anyone know the name of that song at 10:54, when some people are singing by the piano? I can't place it.
Any old iron.
Any old iron.
@@keithharvey7230 Are you sure about that? I looked up several versions of it on the Internet, and the melody doesn't sound right. I also looked up the lyrics as well, and they don't look right either.
❤❤❤❤❤
For the love of money they deceàve
Look at those sexy bathing suits, guys &girls.😊
great old whodunit!
I think the cop and judge did it.....
Was interesting and funny....enjoyed it; I also guessed who the killer was; the one who he trusted the most, but the legal clue was really the clincher.(ls)
dumb ending dropping that girl liike that
1932 I wonder what the peasants were doing 😄

Why are most of the British movies, not British?
Say what?
These are not British. That's just the way they spoke.
Weak script but O Henry at the end
AVOID all satanic seances .
You open yourselves to demonic control. 👿
What is the song they're singing at 1:05:08? I really would like to find it.:)
I mean at 11:53 when they're standing round the piano:)
Correction on the song time: 10:57.
