The path the racket travels along with the angle of the racket are two major factors that determine the direction of the tennis ball. In today's lesson, Brady demonstrates how the angle of the racket at contact will greatly dictate the direction on a serve.

Always a profesional video from Brady. Many thanks.
Fantastic video! Combining your previous ones with this video, I feel like I can find my target a lot easier while serving. Thx a lot, coach Brady !
Thanks for watching Eddie!
Top notch advice !!!
thank you, Brady! You've got a really great serve! And I'm waiting for complete course on the serve!
Thanks for your support Nadya!
Another Great video !
Fantastic video! Thank you very much for posting this.
Glad you liked it Doug!
Good info as usual Brady. Will be incorporating into my strategies going forward
Thanks David!
Hi Coddy, thank you very much for this tip. Now, this applies to the same stance when serving?.... I do have a difficulty on the stance when serving, that's the why of my Q. Thanks again! Keep up with this great work you are doing.
Brady wow you've got a very good serves you must be a very competitive player congratulations, and the tip is helpful as usual.
Thank you Claudio!
Brilliant, thank you Brady
My pleasure Vassilis!
I just bought the speed xt pro, loving it!
Yep its a great stick. Thanks Ale!
your serve motion is great. wish you would do a how to video of your serve action
Thanks! Hoping to put together something more comprehensive on the serve soon.
You are making awesome videos! Thank you!
Thanks Nikola! More to come.
Nice vid wish you talk more about the snap and catapult
I've got a 30+ video serve course as well. Lots to cover for sure!
Great video. Perhaps you can give us more imagery cues in addition to "Hit the right side of ball to serve wide etc". I think I have heard some people talk about "throwing your shoulder to target" , "pointer finger to target", ... Things like that.
Yep I definitely want to put together a course on the serve. Too much to discuss and demonstrate in just a couple videos.
After pretty much a year off recovering from my MCL and meniscus/coronary ligament sprain, I struggled finding the aim on my out wide and T serves. I could hit one, or hit the other, sometimes neither. Now I see that I was making it too complicated This is going to help a lot -- it is really nothing I have to do, just intend, and my brain will do it for me!
Yep it's such a small difference between a slice out wide and a flat T serve...don't overthink it!
It helps to aim at an air target right above the net. The ball has to go over the net first, right? Plus, it's easier to aim at something close than to aim at something far away.
It may help if you make a split screen showing both 0:58 and 1:33 ( synchronized so that the ball is contacted at the same time ). Also 2:35, 2:53. Because now I think I see the slightly outward contact point in the wide serve, but am not very sure.
And do you mean the only difference is the contact point? Body movement is the same? Foot orientation too ( angle of the body relative to the net )? If I make the same contact point but change the foot orientation, yes the opponent may easily spot my intention, but is it also a safe accurate way to adjust the angle? Because the problem I have is accuracy rather than disguise.
Thanks for the input Keith. To illustrate the importance of racket angle at contact, I kept my motion and stance the same. Your racket path should be nearly identical on all serves (a major exception to this would be on a kick serve). Changing your stance will obviously have a major impact on direction, but you should not changing your stance from serve to serve--it can tip off your opponent but more importantly it adds another unneeded variable into the mix.
i thought it was also about the position of the ball toss? flat serve down the T - forward and right ball toss? slice out wide forward and second serve kick more straight up over head ball toss?
Good question. Those are good tosses for each type of serve, but the toss only PROMOTES a particular serve, it doesn't create it. For example, if you toss the ball over your head and still hit directly behind the ball, it will still be a flat serve.
I think more emphasis on aiming serves should be on the ball itself rather than the angle of the racquet. I think one gets better accuracy from lining up the racquet with a spot on the ball that sends the ball to where it needs to go. In short aim off the ball. Ian
You keep you racket head very low, almost down by your feet, before you start your swing. It is not the classic trophy pose which is often taught, but seems to break the kinetic chain. My natural motion is more like yours (I am only 5'10" though). So trophy or not to trophy?
This video I did a little while ago should help explain it: ua-cam.com/video/-7VHdfNxgvc/v-deo.html
Hi Brady. You have a good knee bend, but you do not jump into the court. Your left foot never leaves the ground. Your right foot swings around into the court. Can you talk about that in some future video. Thanks.
More my old age than anything :) You should be jumping and landing on your left leg on all serves.
@3:04 good edit
Good observation Louis! Yep missed that T serve the first go around.
It`s all in the editing , but you did well , there was a lot of pressure on that T serve from the original angle. plus there where 5 balls left in the basket , then 4 on the new angle , so that was the big giveaway, apart from that , it was a perfect edit..
Hey Brady, nice video as usual. Camera angle and zoom aren't that good to "spot the difference" like you've mentioned. Here's an idea for an add-on video: a) no talking, all said here; b) camera *right* behind your back, not angled, not overzoomed so we see the ball and the racket; c) shoot 3 times at each target, slo-mo; d) same stance, same position, same grip like in this video. That'd be incredibly helpful for our practice. Thanks! 🤗
Your serve must be hard to break. Are you playing at a 5.5?
Yes probably 5.5
I am currently rated a 4.5. I know that if I improved my serve, I would be a 5.0. My playing partners would say that my serve is good enough, but I know it could be better. I'm 6'3, but I feel that I am not getting enough out of my serve. I recently switched to a lower toss and a chest up posture like most of the ATP pros use. This protects the shoulder and also has given my more MPHs. I get anywhere from 4-6 aces in a 2 set match, but I'd like to bump that up to 6-10. Also, I'd like my second serve to improve. Right now it's got decent kick, not really attackable, but it's not a weapon. I'm currently taking your kick serve course, which I hope will help. Any advice you have would be further appreciated.
Hate to break it to you but everyone knows the angle of the racket changes the direction of your serve. Tell us the processing to be consistent in remembering how to achieve this ?
You might be surprised that lots of people believe it's the swing or racket path that determines serve location.
hi! from your article: "On a serve your opponent has ZERO control over your shot, there are far less factors that determine where it will ultimately be directed" .... not 100% true. by its positionning your opponent influence your shot.
They may influence it but ultimately you still control the entire shot. You make a good point though. Thanks for watching!
2cd like
Don’t forget about us lefties!
Sorry about that Nick, most of my videos are right-hand dominant. Please watch it in a mirror!
