STEELHEAD TALES EPISODE 3 - GIANT STEELHEAD; THE HUNT CONTINUES! - Oregon Winter Steelhead Fishing

- Jacob joins me on the search for a 20 pound steelhead on the river known for giants. We found some a few good ones! If you don't know the story about Jacob, well here's the Reader's Digest version; Jacob was one of my neighbor kids that found out I was a Fisherman when he was only a kid, 10 or 11 years old. He would come by my house to talk fishing with me. He moved away, but years later he found me on Instagram and we started fishing together. He is one hell of a fishman, he has even spent several summers in Alaska guiding.

It’s crazy how contagious confidence can be between friends when on the river 🤙🏼 this series has been awesome !
Matthew, that’s a great observation. I might have to use that quote in a future video. Every time Jacob and I fish together it’s a good day. Maybe I work a little harder knowing he’s a talented fisherman and will discover the old man jokes while editing. 😁 Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! 🎣
Nice steelies👍🎣
What a fantastic Episode! 29 minutes flew by, because of all the action! SPC bite, for sure! I gained my confidence in them by watching you catch so many on them! I have to end this comment sooner than I'd like, I've got some issues, need to pop into Urgent Care tomorrow, but I'll be fine soon. Thanks for the awesome video!
Thanks William! It was a long one, even Janina said, “It’s already over?” as we watched it last night. And yeah, these Sweet Pink Cherries are incredible, regardless of water clarity.
Well I hope you feel better quick. 🤞🏼
SPC?

Good work 👌
Im enjoying this series more than the previous already and if you keep mentioning “the big one” I know it’s coming can’t wait 🔥
Also, nice to see you throwing some worms. I set up a whole box for them. I’m going to make it a habit to fish more worms this winter!
Thank you, I hope it’s not a let down. I’m always dreaming of the 20+ fish I can hang on my office wall. 😊
Now for worms, I’ve had great days, okay days, and a lot of zeros. I know they can attract the big ones and that’s one of the reasons I fish them. They have worked best for me in heavy rains, like in SH Adventures Ep. 1 last year. I switched to a worm when the heavy rain hit and it found that final fish. I ordered a bunch of options from WFO towards the end of last year, so I’ll get more opportunity to try the different colors this year.
@@RAGEFISHING That's the dream! Yeah, I stocked up on my worms this year too; you might have seen them on IG. I will be doing more of that. That's what I've heard, in that dark water is when you want to run them. I'm excited There is a creek I have in mind with just that kind of water so I'm itching to get out there. as well as that spot I got myonly worm fish. tight lines!
Man those were some hot fish, especially for such cold conditions. It would have been nice to see that first fish Jacob had, it looked like a tank!
They were all feisty. I wish my camera caught the first run on my first fish a bit better. I was still in shock that I hooked something in the turbulent water! And Jacob’s first fish had an incredible first burst. It went from 20’ in front of him to completely across the river in seconds. Maybe it was kin to that tank you caught on SHRT 2!
Love your videos man you know how to film what other fishermen want to watch! Was this filmed recently or is this older I didnt think they have had snow up there yet?
Thank you, that’s good information to hear! The ‘STEELHEAD DECEMBER’ series I do every year is footage saved from the previous season. I don’t like to waste good winter steelhead videos in April and May. These take weeks to edit, so that’s about when March footage would be done in a video. That way we can all get pumped up and ready for the upcoming season.
Here’s the 2 minute intro video if you want to know the whole story. 😁 ua-cam.com/play/PL6fk3kcGgwwhSdF01-ez8ph3sgeCMxS_x.html&si=zhaWd0m7q8iP-rZ7
where is this ? good video btw nice visuals :)
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. 👍🏻
I don’t post river names for a couple reasons, for one people get upset and I don’t want a price on my head. 😬 Two, I don’t want to put undo pressure on a particular river or run. The people that know it will recognize it, and I’m not worried about them learning a thing or two about how I fish it.
I can say it’s an Oregon Coastal River. There are steelhead up and down the coast. Here’s a great article that breaks down the Oregon steelhead rivers. nwsportsmanmag.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/oregon-winter-steelhead-guide/
Good luck this season and reach out if you have any questions. You can also find me on Facebook at Rage Fishing and instagram @steelheadrage. 🎣
Way to clean to be the long Tom lol I have family in Monroe and I live in junction city
😂 Inside joke. One of Jacob’s fishing buddies tags his Steelhead pics with Long Tom. Who knows, maybe it does get some chromers. 😁
Why is it that the fish are always on the opposite side of the bank that your are fishing? Maybe switch to the other side and just drop your line it. That's what I do on my Ultimate Fishing Simulator game.
It’s kind of like when you’re fishing from a boat, you cast toward the bank, and when you’re on the bank, you cast into the middle. You always want to fish where you aren’t. (Sounds like another poem opportunity.)
This year or last?
Last season. Not that I expect everyone to watch them all, but I explain this in my intro to ‘STEELHEAD DECEMBER’ and Steelhead Tales Episode 1 videos. I save footage from the prior season to share at the beginning of the next. This is the 3rd year in a row.
Here’s the link to the 2 minute intro if you’re interested.

I notice you all are using spinning outfits. So what is the setup? Rod, Reel and line set up. Thank You for the information.
I use G.Loomis E6X Spinning Rods and Shimano Vanford reels. All the gear I use is listed below in the description field. ⬇️
I understand that it makes good footage, but if guy's tighten them drags just a bit you wouldn't half to mess with them so long
There is nothing about my drag setting that has anything to do with gaining ‘good footage.’ The welfare of the steelhead will always be my top priority.
That said, only the one holding the rod can tell how loose the drag is set and it’s up to individual fishermen to decide how they set their drags. There’s a fine line between too tight and too loose and lost fish.
Good work 👌
He said , where’s all the people at ? That’s how it is where I live , when you are the only one . I look for those spots .
I generally fish runs with mostly wild fish which cut down on fishermen, most want a shot at a hatchery fish. But I’m with you, I like to fish where the pressure is light, you’ll rarely see other fishermen in my videos other than those in my crew. 🎣
Nice day of fishing I was up there when there was snow last year
Thank you! That was a good day. We didn’t even start fishing very early because we got stuck for a good hour in traffic due to a serious crash. Good thing Jacob saw 2 crows! 🐦⬛ 😁
