    For a second, I thought you were going to use a can of Coke to clean your heads. Jokes aside, I am rebuilding the entire top of end of my gen 4 Ly6 this weekend, looking forward to the methods to do the valve springs

      Was just thinking about how my valve seat tool is on a shelf behind boxes and boxes of 442 sheet metal lol

    Putting a DA orbitle sander in grinder mode with 240 grit low pressure will really make those flat exterior areas on the head look new.

      Try what you have. I suspect smaller might be better.

    What cfm compressor do you have that can run the soda blaster smoothly?

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  Рік тому +3

      I've got a 30 gallon, the cfm is probably 5 to 6 at 90

    That’s looks damn good ! So I’ll give up my secret mine is krud kutter the grease remover Walmart has it in a gallon jug . Number one best I’ve ever used even better than oven cleaner. But I like how that cleans old gasket material off.

    I didn't have any blasting equipment so I used the cheap oven cleaner from the dollar store.

      Oh I know. You pretty much have to make your own or take a chance on Alibaba. There's video's of people converting sandblasting tanks and cabinets.

      Not doing the guides, just new seats, clean up the valves, lap them in and send it.

    Great video buddy. Probably not a great data point, but I used walnut shells with a bit of car polish for rifle and pistol brass cleaning and it seems very safe for brass so I’d assume it’s fine on aluminum. Also, I know a lot of BMW shops use walnut blasting to clean out combustion chambers on the late model I6 engines. Of course you have to be super careful to get all the material out before reassembly.

      I know Subaru guys do too, but getting one in a stuck in a water jacket is what made me use soda

    So I am curious is soda blasting baking soda or a different substance called soda?

    Was there any additional finishing that was required for the head gasket mating surface? I notice that soda blasting dulls the finish of the mating surface. Was MLS head gasket used?

    • @GoatRopeGarage
      @GoatRopeGarage  Рік тому

      Used it with an MLS, didn’t blast the mating surface much because of them being aluminum, but I’m not sure it would cause issues anyways

    I used one of those on an aluminum boat project years ago.
    It worked great for paint removal.
    My current project a jeep wrangler, i wanted to get my soda blaster out to clean the heads and mostly the front cover, but it's behind where the jeep is sitting.
    Instead i ended up using 3m crossbuffs, and some aluminum cleaner/acid wash (Dx33).
    Available at your local auto paint supply store.
    That stuff works great.
