These molds can only grow within a narrow range of pH, and the vinegar makes the berries a little bit too acidic for the mold. What I do, is just spray the berries with vinegar and set them into a container lined with the paper towel.
What also works is putting your unwashed berries in a mason jar seal tight. Keep in fridge and wash just before eating. No fail! Any berry will work. I have berries from 2 weeks ago and are still fresh
I spray my vegetables with hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar. Have a separate spray bottle for peroxide and vinegar. Spray with peroxide, then follow with vinegar. Actually, it doesn't matter which one you spray with first, but you can't mix the vinegar and peroxide in one bottle. I let the veggies sit in my sink a few minutes, then rinse off and dry. I got this information from a study that was done at the University of Virginia.
You all are so civilized. I wish I was like you! I eat my berries right away.
Works for lemons and limes too. Now I just cut those to my liking and freeze them. They thaw quickly too.

Thank you, Tami for your very helpful hint! I am very Grateful as I hate to waste berries due to early spoilage, too!
Great idea - I will try it! Thanks for passing that information on! Have a great day!
You are so welcome!
I have been doing this for a few years. Do not need to add that much vinegar or time. No rinsing let dry .
I will need to do this! Thanks for the tip.
Great video. Period I do the same, except I soak them in a salad spinner then rinse them in the colendar part and spin them dry.
Thanks for sharing

Fantastic!
I do that as well but will try this method. I'm single and berries go bad before I can eat them all up.

I've done peroxide too. But I found it can bleach the color out of the berries!
@@peter5.056 I use on veggies, not berries.
@@melaniecordes4613 haha yes, I do my veggies with peroxide too;)
So excited to try this 🤩
Hope you like it!
Thank you for sharing this tip, Tami. I will definitely try this!

i like frozen and thawed berries. those seem more sweet and juicy than fresh berries.
Do you wash the berries first?
I don’t.
Instead of white vinegar will apple cider vinegar do the same?
I’m sure it would but I only saw people recommending white vinegar.
@@NutmegNotebookyes I use apple cider vinegar, works the same. :) love this hack, makes my berries last so much longer!!
Can you reuse the same vinegar-water for the next batch of fruit?
Great Question! Yes. absolutely, I use the same batch of vinegar and water to treat all the berries I just purchased.
